Acute Malnutrition and Infection with the Human Immuno-Deficiency Virus (HIV) in Children Followed up at the Pediatrics University Hospital Charles de Gaulle: Evolution of Anthropometric Parameters on Antiretroviral Treatment

Burkina Faso, a country with very scarce resources, undertook to fight against HIV infection. In 2013, according to UNAIDS, 110,000 persons were living in this country with HIV infection. 18,000 children among these persons were under 15. We conducted a retrospective study from January 2003 to December 2012 at the Pediatrics University Hospital Charles De Gaulle, ouagadougou (CHUP CDG), Burkina Faso. The study aimed at assessing the children’s ponderal growth when under antiretroviral treatment. The children who were under 15 and who had been on antiretroviral treatment for at least 5 years were included in the study. Acute malnutrition concerned children whose height/weight ratio (H/W) was lower at -2 width type (or Z score) of the median of reference regarding age according to WHO. Two categories of malnutrition were outstanding in our study: moderate acute malnutrition, (-3 Z-score ≤ H/W -2 Z-score) and severe acute malnutrition (W/H -3 Z-score). The clinical and paraclinical data recorded during previous consultations were extracted from the ESOPE (Monitoring and follow-up of patients) data basis and exported to the ENA software and SPSS for their analysis. In total, 210 out of 529 children’s cases were considered. These children’s average age was 6.9 years. There were 55.7% of male and 44.3% of female children. HIV1 was found in 97.6% of the children against 2.4% for HIV2. In a 5 year follow-up, 46 among the children, namely 20.4% were on a second line protocol of antiretroviral treatment and 164 among them were still on a first line protocol of antiretroviral treatment. When they were admitted at hospital, 38% of the children showed characteristics of acute malnutrition. 17.8% of these children presented characteristics of severe form of acute malnutrition. In ouagadougou, grilled meats in the form of pieces and brochettes are very popular and well-known to consumers. The aim of this study was to assess the microbial quality of mutton meat sold in ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. A total of 120 samples were collected from 20 meat grillers 60 samples of fresh meat and 60 samples of grilled meat. The sampling was done between the month of August 2018 and the month of February 2019. The samples were analyzed according to standard methods. The test performed were counts of Aerobic Mesophilic Bacteria (AMB), yeasts and molds, enterobacteria, Campylobacter spp, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus cereus, Brucella spp, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, the search for salmonella, and the detection of antibiotics residues. Results showed a high count of AMB (8.77 and 6.78 log UFC/g);enterobacteria (6.58 and 3.05 log UFC/g), Staphylococcus aureus (6.45 and 4.35 log UFC/g), Bacillus cereus (6.98 and 4.52 log UFC/g), Campylobacter (6.03 and 3.86 log UFC/g), yeasts and molds (4.80 and 3.26 log UFC/g) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (0.45 and 0.15 log UFC/g), respectively in fresh meat and grilled meat. Presumptive Salmonella was found in 95% of fresh meat samples and in 75% of grilled meat samples. In the tested samples, no Brucella spp were detected. However, residues of antibiotics were found in 5% of fresh meat samples and 5% of grilled meat samples. Means of moisture and pH were respectively 74.91% and 6.05% for fresh meat and 53.21% and 6.06% for grilled meat. The average microbial counts recorded in fresh and grilled meat are significantly high and indicate poor hygiene in the raw material and ready-to-eat meat. Good practices of hygiene and processing guides should be developed for the meat grilling value chain actors to reduce contamination risks.

常规加热或微波照射下,含氮杂环1与多聚甲醛反应以良好的产率生成含氮杂环基甲醇3,反应物物质的量的比、反应温度等对反应产率有影响,微波条件下的反应时间比常规加热下大大缩短.化合物3和异氰酸酯4在常规加热或微波照射下生成相应的氨基甲酸含氮杂环甲基酯5a～5m.反应温度、反应物物质的量的比、反应时间、微波辐射功率等对反应产率都有一定的影响,与常规加热相比微波条件下的反应时间大大缩短.化合物5的结构经过IR,~1H NMR,MS,元素分析测定,部分化合物经过^(13)C NMR测定.测定了化合物5的杀虫和除草活性,结果表明其杀虫活性较低,除草活性高于杀虫活性,5a,5d,5e和5m对苋菜和黄瓜的防除率高达100%.

Introduction: The management of nasolabial-palatal clefts in precarious environments is one of the topics most addressed by many humanitarian missions, especially in Africa and Asia. The aim of our study was to propose a humanitarian and not expensive care to the patients presenting with facial clefts during the fairgrounds in disadvantaged areas. Patients and Method: We carried out a prospective study on 32 patients who were operated with very limited means during the mobile clinics inside Togo during the year 2013. These patients were followed over a period of one year after their surgery. Included in our series were native patients with facial clefts, who had no means of managing their condition, and who therefore needed humanitarian support. We have reported the clinical history of some patients to illustrate our results. Results: our study included 32 children, including 15 boys and 17 girls, with a sex ratio of around 1. The average age of patients was 5 years, with extremes of 6 months and 13 years. We performed 13 clefts (including 12 unilateral clefts and 1 bilateral cleft), 17 clefts palate (including 12 unilateral clefts and 5 bilateral clefts), and 2 velar clefts. We described the clinical history of a few patients in this humanitarian setting and showed the surgical results obtained.

Introduction: In our setting there is a lack of publications on female hypertension in general population motivating this study to look for electro- and echocardiographic findings of female hypertension. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional study during 6 months in the cardiology department of the UH-GT including 324 female patients aged 18 and more seen in the outpatient unit and by whom the diagnosis of hypertension was set. all patients consented to be study participants after receiving clearly information about the study and that care giving will not be affected by their eventual refusal. Data collection has been done with all needed confidentiality rules. A survey formular was used to collect data in order to record them in an Access database. Analysis was done using IBM SPSS software. Quantitative data are presented as mean with standard deviation and qualitative as proportion. Level of significance for statistic test was set at 5%. Results: During the study time 324 among 524 hypertensive patients visited our outpatient unit giving a prevalence of fHTN of 61.8%. The means for age, body mass index (BMI) in female hypertensive patients were respectively 52 ± 14.461 years and 27.35 ± 06.585 Kg/m2. Main ECG findings were left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and sinus tachycardia with respectively 93.6% and 46.4% followed by isolated ventricular extrasystole with 33.7%. Echocardiography findings included LVH, relative wall thickness (RWT) and reduced ejection fraction (EF) in respectively 41.05%, 37.35% and 21.91%. The left ventricular mass (LV) mass and geometry were abnormal in 44.4% and 37.3%. Remodeling as geometry modification (18.2%) and mitral flow Type 2 (90.4%) have been the most abnormal findings. Conclusion: Hypertension induced modifications mainly LVH in ECG and Echocardiography in female patients less than encountered among male hypertensive patients.
