If K is a field with involution and e an arbitrary graph, the involution from K naturally induces an involution of the Leavitt path algebra LK（e）. We show that the involution on LK（e） is proper if the involution on K is positive-definite, even in the case when the graph e is not necessarily finite or row-finite. It has been shown that the Leavitt path algebra LK（e） is regular if and only if e is acyclic. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for LK（e） to be ＊-regular （i.e., regular with proper involution）. This characterization of ＊-regularity of a Leavitt path algebra is given in terms of an algebraic property of K, not just a graph-theoretic property of e. This differs from the known characterizations of various other algebraic properties of a Leavitt path algebra in terms of graph- theoretic properties of e alone. As a corollary, we show that Handelman＇s conjecture （stating that every ,-regular ring is unit-regular） holds for Leavitt path algebras. Moreover, its generalized version for rings with local units also continues to hold for Leavitt path algebras over arbitrary graphs.

Permeable coastal sediments act as a reactive node in the littoral zone,transforming nutrients via a wide range of biogeochemical *** rates are controlled by abiotic factors,e.g.,salinity,temperature or solute ***,a series of incubation experiments,using flow-through reactors,were conducted to simulate the biogeochemical cycling of nitrate (NO_(3)^(-)) and phosphorus(P)in permeable sediments under different NO_(3)^(-) availability conditions(factor I)along a salinity gradient(admixture of river and seawater,factor Ⅱ).In an oligotrophic scenario,i.e.,unamended NO_(3)^(-) concentrations in both river and seawater,sediments acted as a permanent net source of NO_(3)^(-) to the water *** peak production rate occurred at an intermediate salinity(20).IncreasingNO_(3)^(-) availability in river water significantly enhanced netNO_(3)^(-) removal rates within the salinity range of 0 to 30,likely via the denitrification pathway based on the sediment microbiota *** this scenario,the most active removal was obtained at salinity of *** both river and seawater were spiked with NO_(3)^(-),the highest removal rate switched to the highest salinity(36).It suggests the salinity preference of the NO_(3)^(-) removal pathway by local denitrifiers(e.g.,Bacillus and Paracoccus)and that NO_(3)^(-) removal in coastal sediments can be significantly constrained by the dilution related NO_(3)^(-) *** with the obtained variation for NO_(3)^(-) reactions,permeable sediments acted as a sink of soluble reactive P in all treatments,regardless of salinity and NO_(3)^(-) input concentrations,indicating a possibility of P-deficiency for coastal water from the intensive cycling in permeable ***,the net production of dissolved organic carbon(DOC)in all treatments was positively correlated with the measured NO_(3)^(-) reaction rates,indicating that the DOC supply may not be the key factor for NO_(3)^(-) removal rates due

Native grasslands in the Pampas of South America are increasingly being replaced by eucalyptus and Pinus *** short rotation regimes used for the stands require high nutrient levels,with litterfall being a major source of nutrient *** model the litterfall production using climatic variables and assess the nutrient return in 14-year-old eucalyptus grandis and Pinus taeda stands,we measured litter production over 2 years,using conical litter traps,and monitored climatic *** temperature,accumulated precipitation,and mean maximum vapor pres-sure deficit at the seasonal level influenced litterfall produc-tion by ***;seasonal accumulated precipitation and mean maximum temperature affected litterfall by *** regression tree modeling based on these climatic vari-ables had great accuracy and predictive power for ***(N=33;MAe(mean absolute error)=0.65;RMSe(root mean square error)=0.91;R^(2)=0.71)and ***(N=108;MAe=1.50;RMSe=1.59;R^(2)=0.72).The nutrient return followed a similar pattern to litterfall deposition,as well as the order of importance of macronutrients(***:Ca>N>K>Mg>P;***:N>Ca>K>Mg>P)and micronutrients(*** and ***:Mn>Fe>Zn>Cu)in both *** study constitutes a first approximation of factors that affect litterfall and nutrient return in these systems.

Subterranean estuaries,i.e.,the mixing zone between terrestrial groundwater and recirculated seawater,host a wide range of ***,field campaigns were conducted at the mouth of the subterranean estuary at the Sanggou Bay(Shandong Province,China)over four consecutive seasons at a seepage face(0−20 cm depth).The diversity of benthic microbiome was characterized via 16S rRNA gene sequencing and metagenomics,combined with physic-chemical parameters,e.g.,organic carbon,total nitrogen and sulfate contents in *** spring,the dominant species were assigned to the phylum *** opportunistic species was assigned to Acidobacteria,Actinobacteria and *** key components were identified to be species of the genera Pseudoalteromonas,Colwellia and Sphingobium,indicating the involvement of sediment microbiota in the degradation of sedimentary organic carbon,particularly that of pelagic origin,e.g.,phytoplankton detritus and bivalve *** spring,the microbial community was statistically similar along the depth profiles and among the three sampled *** spatial distributions were obtained in the remaining *** contrast,the dominant species assemblages varied significantly among seasons,with key genera being Thioprofundum and Nitrosopumilus during summer and autumn and Thioprofundum and Ilumatobacter during *** analysis revealed a seasonal shift in benthic nitrogen and sulfur metabolism associated with these variations in microbial community ***,our findings suggested that macro elements derived from pelagic inputs,particularly detrital phytoplankton,shaped the microbial community compositions at the seepage face,resulting in significant seasonal variations,while the influence of terrestrial materials transported by groundwater on the sediment microbiota at the seepage face found to be minor.

In this study,different microbial strains,as single and mixed-cultures,were used to ferment the pate olive cake(POC),a by-product of olive oil *** particular,strains belonging to Candida boidinii,Wickerhamomyces anomalus and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum were *** fermentation was carried out on diluted(3:2)POC without and with glucose(2%w/v)***,phenolic compounds were monitored during fermentation in POC added with glucose differetly inoculated and the microbial community,at the end of fermentation,was evaluated by Next Generation Sequencing(NGS)*** highlighted that inoculated samples showed an hydroxytyrosol content higher than the un-inoculated *** particular,during fermentation the sample inoculated with ***,both in single and in mixed culture together with ***,increased the hydroxytyrosol content by 275 and 261 mg/L,respectively,after 8 days,to reach the highest content at the end of *** analysis revealed a low abundance of 16S ribosomal RNA genes and fungal ITS in all samples at any sampling ***,at the end of fermentation,all samples exhibited a different bacterial community with a decrease in acetic acid bacteria and an increase in Lactobacillaceae ***,no effect was detected in any samples on fungal metagenomic profile,where Dipodascus geotrichum was found dominant both at initial and final *** conclusion,the present study confirmed that selected cultures can drive the fermentation and have an impact on the phenolic profile.

Subterranean estuaries are highly dynamic in processing dissolved inorganic nitrogen(DIN).Here we investigate DIN turnover in surface sediments(0–20 cm depth)at the higher,medium and lower intertidal of a seepage face,i.e.,the outer “mouth”of the subterranean estuary,during four consecutive seasons in Sanggou Bay,*** the studied period,ammonium(NH_(4)^(+))and nitrite(NO_(2)^(-))concentrations in the sampled porewaters did not vary significantly with depth or *** contrast,peaks in porewater nitrate(NO_(3)^(-))concentration and decreases in δ^(15)N-NO_(3)^(-) and δ^(18)O-NO_(3)^(-) were observed in the 15–20 cm depth(bottom)sediment,particularly during summer and *** with NO_(3)^(-) production,the sediment total nitrogen was also markedly peaking in the bottom layer of the studied seepage *** with abundant heterotrophic microbes in the sediment,this NO_(3)^(-) accumulation was linked to a reaction chain including organic matter decomposition,ammonification and *** winter,porewater enrichment in total nitrogen occurred closer to the surface of the seepage face but triggered also active NO_(3)^(-) *** pattern reinforced the importance of pelagic organic matter supply on NO_(3)^(-) *** the shallower depths of the seepage face(e net NO3removal occurred except in *** isotopic fractionation(δ^(15)N-NO_(3)^(-) and δ^(18)O-NO_(3)^(-) and metagenomic results revealed denitrification as the main pathway for NO_(3)^(-) *** assimilation from benthic primary producers may also consume a fraction of NO_(3)^(-) at the sediment water *** NO_(3)^(-) production and removal significantly varied in magnitude with season(13.6 to 6.2 nmol cm^(-3)h^(-1)).Substrate supply was the key driver for nitrate cycling,as evidenced by the high NO3production rate in spring by comparison to *** highest NO_(3)^(-) turnover rates were found in summer,suggesting the comb

The antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of honey are well-established and recently the potential of honey for biotechnological and food preservative applications appeared *** to that,the present study evaluated the sensory profile and the antimicrobial potential of honey samples produced in different phytogeographical zones,in the Sicilian areas,and obtained from five different floral sources(chestnut,eucalyptus,sulla,thyme,and citrus).The specific sensory fingerprint of the analyzed samples was assessed by artificial senses(e-eye,e-Nose,and e-Tongue).In addition,the antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213,Listeria monocytogenes ATCC 19114,Bacillus subtilis DSM 10,escherichia coli ATCC 25922,enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212,Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027,Salmonella enterica Typhimurium ATCC 14026,and Candida albicans ATCC 10231 was *** senses allowed to confirm the impact of climate factors and genetic features on honey composition suggesting implications for antimicrobial activity.A broad spectrum of antagonistic activity was displayed by the analyzed honey samples in both undiluted and diluted *** particular,thyme honey showed interesting antagonistic *** addition,a greater inhibitory effect of amber-colored honey than light ones was observed.
