Are gender inclusiveness and rural transformation interlinked?The case of Bangladesh

Gender inclusiveness is important in the rural transformation process of Bangladesh as rural women play key roles in both agricultural and non-agricultural *** inclusiveness also leads to gender *** empirically evaluate relationships between rural transformation and gender inclusiveness in *** consider three rural transformation indicators:high-value commodities’share in agricultural output values,non-farm employment’s share in rural labor employment,and non-agricultural GDP’s share in total *** capturing gender inclusiveness include the per capita rural income of males and females,ratio of investments into gender programs,female access to education,access to healthcare,employment participation,land ownership,and asset *** test the effect of the difference in per capita rural income of males and females and the ratio of their incomes and check for the robustness of the gender variables across different model *** 128 district-level observations from 32 districts of Bangladesh across four time periods(2000,2005,2010 and 2016),we use both ordinary least squares and fixed effects panel regression *** find that female land and asset ownership and access to education and healthcare are robust determinants of various stages of rural ***,our results suggest that improving women’s ownership of land and assets and investing in women’s education and healthcare will likely contribute to a more inclusive rural transformation.

Adequate Closed Form Wave Solutions to the Generalized KdV Equation in Mathematical Physics

In this paper, we consider the generalized Korteweg-de-Vries (KdV) equations which are remarkable models of the water waves mechanics, the shallow water waves, the quantum mechanics, the ion acoustic waves in plasma, the electro-hydro-dynamical model for local electric field, signal processing waves through optical fibers, etc. We determine the useful and further general exact traveling wave solutions of the above mentioned NLDEs by applying the exp(−τ(ξ))-expansion method by aid of traveling wave transformations. Furthermore, we explain the physical significance of the obtained solutions of its definite values of the involved parameters with graphic representations in order to know the physical phenomena. Finally, we show that the exp(−τ(ξ))-expansion method is convenient, powerful, straightforward and provide more general solutions and can be helping to examine vast amount of travelling wave solutions to the other different kinds of NLDEs.

An innovative approach towards enhancing energy conservation in buildings via public engagement using DIY infrared thermography surveys

Energy consumption in urban environment in the EU accounts for about 40%of the total energy consumption,and the majority of this energy is utilised for heating and air conditioning of *** the process of insulating and retrofitting of relatively old buildings is essential to enhance the thermal performance and hence contribute to energy and carbon emission *** is a need to enhance people’s engagement and education in relation to such issues to inspire and encourage positive actions and investment from the *** paper presents an approach of combining a novel training process using a low-cost infrared thermal camera with small scale building model to promote DIY(Do-It-Yourself)infrared survey for the public to evaluate the performance of their own homes in order to identify any issues related to insulation or air leaks from the building envelop to encourage them to take corrective *** work included the engagement of 50 people to survey their own homes to capture the technical findings as well as their personal reaction and *** results show that 88%of participants have found the educational session helpful to understand the infrared thermography;and 92%have considered the infrared camera to be an effective tool to indicate location of heat ***,90%of participants trust that the thermal camera has helped them to identify insulation defects that cause heat losses in their ***,84%believe that the thermal imaging has convinced them to think more seriously about the heat losses of their homes and what they could do to improve *** experimental thermography surveys have shown that many houses have limitations in terms of thermal insulation which have been identified by the *** DIY interaction has provided enhanced public engagement and energy awareness via the use of the *** financial issues are also found to be critical,as none of the participants would have done the survey

随着近年来汽车行业的不断发展,人们生活质量得到了极大改善,但交通安全、道路拥堵等问题也日益突出。因此,致力于提升车辆的主动安全性并提高通行效率,高级驾驶辅助系统(ADAS)已成为热门的研究领域。自适应巡航控制(ACC)是最为常见的ADAS功能之一,可以承担驾驶员的负担和压力,减少由人为因素而导致的交通事故,并提高道路利用率。ACC系统很容易受到前方车辆运动状态的干扰,因此提高系统稳定性至关重要,会很大程度影响车辆的乘坐体验与燃油消耗。基于此,本文设计了一种车辆的ACC系统,重点研究ACC的控制策略以及距离、速度控制的模式切换逻辑,改善系统在不同外界扰动下的鲁棒性。主要研究内容如下:(1)建立了车辆纵向动力学模型、发动机与传动系模型、制动器模型与轮胎模型。此外,考虑到外界环境对模型的干扰,基于递推最小二乘法设计了扰动补偿器,对车辆质量、空气动力学系数以及道路坡度进行参数辨识,并对其进行了仿真验证,结果表明:当道路坡度发生变化时,所设计的扰动补偿器表现出良好的跟踪精度,最大跟踪误差仅为0.8°,误差均方根值约为0.09。(2)基于线性二次型(LQ)最优控制理论求解车辆的最优反馈增益。随后,将车辆建模为双积分器,并确保系统具有可控性和可观测性,基于线性二次型积分(LQI)控制设计了反馈控制器。仿真结果表明,LQI相比LQ控制器表现出更佳的控制效果,并具有良好的鲁棒性。(3)为实现在不同场景下距离控制与速度控制的平稳切换,提出了一种基于自适应模型预测控制(AMPC)的ACC控制策略,并基于Lemke算法求解带约束的二次规划问题。随后,基于Car Sim与MATLAB平台进行了联合仿真验证,本文设计的AMPC基于线性二次型积分(LQI)具有更好的性能;此外,在高速公路的多个驾驶场景中,由于控制器对权重变量进行了有效约束,表现出良好的响应能力(约1.3秒);并且在切入、切出场景中,车辆加速度与制动减速度表现较为平滑,发动机效率提升了约8%,保证了乘坐舒适性。(4)通过硬件在环(Hi L)仿真试验,对所提出的ACC控制策略的安全性和可扩展性进行了验证。试验结果结果证明了动态驾驶中ACC可以精确的控制安全距离,并且采用所提出的自适应模型预测控制(AMPC)的ACC系统始终保持预期的安全距离,验证了其优秀的控制性能和安全功效。

Today,there is a growing interest in developing energy efficient buildings since it is estimated that buildings account for about 40%of the total primary energy consumption in the *** relation to existing buildings,energy efficiency retrofits have become an important opportunity to upgrade the energy performance of commercial,public and residential buildings that may reduce the energy consumption,demand and *** this paper we cover the energy efficiency deep retrofit process that has been carried out for Nottingham Playhouse theatre building for the aim of enhancing its environmental performance and analysing the energy efficiency gained after implementing certain proposed *** is a nationally protected historic building,listed as Grade II*on The National Heritage List for England(NHLE).The building has had insulation enhancement,doors modifications,solar energy installations,energy-saving lights,in addition to improved heating and air conditioning *** paper presents a novel methodology;and its results indicate significant improvements in the building’s energy performance which is demonstrated using infrared thermographic images and data logger sensors where significant energy savings to the building’s thermal performance are *** energy saving measures have been completed while maintaining the heritage building’s general appearance and architectural features,which have received a Commendation Certificate from The Nottingham Civic Society for this achievement.

Oxidative degradation of sunflower oil blended with roasted sesame oil during heating at frying temperature

The efficacy of roasted sesame oil(SO)on the oxidation deterioration of sunflower oil(SFO)during heating was *** concentrations of SO in the SFO were 0,10%,20%,and 30%by *** oxidation profile of oil samples was monitored by evaluating the generation of oxidation products and chemical alterations in the oils'composition during heating at frying temperature(180℃).The results showed that the oxidation parameters(free fatty acid,peroxide value,p-anisidine value,total oxidation status,thiobarbituric acid value,and color index)increased significantly in SFO compared to blends or SO during thermal *** heating,the concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids(PUFA)was reduced with increased level of saturated fatty acids;these results were observed more in SFO than those of SO or blend ***,the presence of SO in SFO reduced the decomposition of *** Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,the peak intensities were significantly altered in SFO compared to the blend oils during *** on the most analytical data,it may be agreed that the heating at frying temperature led to the generation of relatively higher contents of oxidative products in SFO compared to blend oils,showing a lower degree of oxidation occurred in *** best frying performance for the SFO was achieved by using 30%SO extracted from the roasted sesame *** study showed the proper blending of high polyunsaturated oil with SO can produce oil blends with high nutritional values and enhanced stability for daily cooking and deep-frying applications.

The environmental and financial implications of expanding the use of electric cars-A Case study of Scotland

This paper investigates the expansion of electric cars and their impact on the environment and the user;assuming a future scenario where all of the light-duty vehicles that use an internal combustion engine will be replaced by electric cars in *** idea is to investigate the impact on the environment and the financial effect on the *** methodology is based on analysing the most common electric and conventional vehicles to estimate the amount of additional electricity that would be needed to charge that *** paper has also looked at the running *** results show that approximately 4 GWh per annum of additional electricity will be needed to compensate for such growth in electricity *** the rise in electricity production,the amount of carbon emissions from the electrical grid is expected to increase slightly by 0.47 megatons CO_(2)per *** that the carbon dioxide generated by the light internal combustion vehicles at the moment is 3.6 megatons of CO_(2)per year,it is concluded that the total amount of greenhouse gases from the electricity grid will decrease by circa 33.7%if all conventional cars in Scotland are replaced by electric *** initial cost of an electric car is found to be higher than conventional diesel or petrol one,but in the long term,the cost to power an electric vehicle is expected to be much ***,electric cars still have their own drawbacks as they need significant time to be charged,and will consume significant energy for heating the interior and windscreens to prevent condensation in cold weather leading to an estimated reduction in range of approximately 28%in some situations.

Evaluation tool for the thermal performance of retrofitted buildings using an integrated approach of deep learning artificial neural networks and infrared thermography

In most countries,buildings are responsible for significant energy consumption where space heating and air conditioning is responsible for the majority of this energy *** reduce this massive consumption and decrease carbon emission,thermal insulation of buildings can play an important *** estimation of energy savings following the improvement of a building’s insulation remains a key area of research in order to calculate the cost savings and the payback *** this paper,a case study has been presented where deep retrofitting has been introduced to an existing building to bring it closer to a Passivhaus standard with the introduction of insulation and solar photovoltaic *** thermal performance of the building with its improved insulation has been evaluated using infrared *** intelligence using deep learning neural networks is implemented to predict the thermal performance of the building and the expected energy *** prediction of neural networks is compared with the actual savings calculated using historical weather *** results of the neural network show high accuracy of predicting the actual energy savings with success rate of about 82%when compared with the calculated *** results show that this suggested approach can be used to rapidly predict energy savings from retrofitting of buildings with reasonable accuracy,hence providing a practical rapid tool for the building industry and communities to estimate energy savings.A mathematical model has been also developed which has indicated a life-long monitoring will be needed to precisely estimate the benefits of energy savings in retrofitting due to the change in weather conditions and people’s behaviour.

Dust particle surface potential in an argonhelium plasma using the(r,q)-distribution function

In this paper, the dust particle surface potential for argon-helium plasma is evaluated analytically and numerically in the context of negatively charged dust particles by employing a power-law(r, q)-distribution function. Recent studies have reported the argon-helium plasma and conducted a brief theoretical and experimental survey. To deepen our understanding further, this study aims to analyze the argon-helium plasma comprehensively using the same pattern but with the(r, q)-distribution function. For this purpose, the current balance equations are derived for electron, helium and argon ions, when these charge species attain the quasineutrality *** numerically examined the currents of plasma species for a broad range of effective distribution function parameters r and q. It is revealed that the surface potential of dust particles is significantly affected by the parameters r and q, helium ion-to-electron temperature ratio,argon ion-to-electron temperature ratio, and helium ion to argon ion number density ratio. By incorporating the multi-ion(argon-helium) species, the significance of low-temperature nonMaxwellian dusty(complex) plasma is briefly examined.
