The Combination of Indigenous Knowledge and Geo-Informatics for Water Harvesting Siting in the Jordanian Badia

Jordan is located in an arid to semi arid region where around 90% of its land receives an average annual precipitation of less than 100 mm while only 3% of the land receives an average annual precipitation of 300 mm or more. Jordan is characterised as a “water scarce” country because the current per capita share of water is estimated to be of the order of 140 m3 per year which is well below the 1000 m3 threshold. Rainwater harvesting is the accumulating and storing, of rainwater. It has been used to provide drinking water, water for livestock, water for irrigation or to refill aquifers as a groundwater recharge. GIS has been widely used in selecting the best sites for water harvesting schemes. This research aims at selecting optimum sites for water harvesting schemes in the Jordan arid lands (Badia) using indigenous knowledge and geo-informatics. To achieve this aim, a community-based research and desktop investigating is applied. The community-based research focused on consulting with 200 stakeholders form local communities where they provided knowledge on opportunities and constrains form their experience on water management in the arid lands where they live and interact. Also they provided information on potential location for water collecting sites that has been used for ages to provide water to humans and livestock. On the other hand, desktop research is conducted on sitting criteria for water harvesting based on physical and socio-economic characteristics. The physical criteria include rainfall volumes, slope, distance to water courses (wadis), distance form geologic faults and soil texture, where socio-economic criteria include distance to groundwater wells, distance to urban area, distance to agriculture activities and distance to international brooders. This selecting criterion in combination with indigenous knowledge is used within GIS environment to identify optimum sites for water harvesting. Runoff Estimation for Suggested Water Harvesting Sites in the Northern Jordanian Badia

Jordan is characterized by severe weather conditions, therefore great temporal and spatial variations in rainfall;runoff and evaporation amounts are expected. Water harvesting has been practiced in Jordan throughout history for both irrigation and household purposes. A major research project was carried out in the Jordanian Badia on site selection criteria for rain water harvesting systems based on the integration between indigenous knowledge and the use of Geo-informatics. This work was followed by conducting a geophysical and soil investigation for five potential sites. In this study, GIS was used to investigate the potential of having enough runoff in the five selected sites to establish water harvesting dams based on rainfall, evaporation data and catchments’ areas for the selected sites. It was found that the estimated runoff that could be harvested on annual basis at these sites varies between 0.2 Million Cubic Meters (MCM) in Alaasra site to 0.82 MCM in Al-Manareh (Al-Ghuliasi) site. This indicates that these sites have the potential for small scale water harvesting that could be utilized by local livestock owners in the area to water their livestock.

Kinetics of Soil Potassium Release Under Long-Term Imbalanced Fertilization in Calcareous Soils

Knowledge on potassium ion(K^+) release from soils makes K fertilizer recommendation more efficient and *** of K^+release under continuous fertilization of no fertilizer(CK), urea(N), triple superphosphate(P), and urea + triple superphosphate(NP) without K fertilizer was investigated in calcareous(chloritic and kaolinitic) soils on the Miandarband Plain in Kermanshah Province of *** results showed that the kinetics of K^+release included an initial reaction and a slow *** phosphateand NH_4^+-induced K^+release followed the same rate process during the rapid(2–192 h) and slow release periods(192–1 090 h).There were no significant differences in the cumulative K^+released from the chloritic and kaolinitic soils among all the *** cumulative K^+released was positively correlated with P adsorption capacity for the chloritic(r = 0.461, P N = CK for the chloritic soils, and N =P > NP > CK for the kaolinitic *** study showed that K fixation potential and P adsorption capacities controlled K^+release from *** information will be helpful for precise fertilizer recommendations for the studied soils.

Magnetohydrodynamic peristaltic flow of a hyperbolic tangent fluid in a vertical asymmetric channel with heat transfer

In the present paper we discuss the magnetohydrodynamic （MHD） peristaltic flow of a hyperbolic tangent fluid model in a vertical asymmetric channel under a zero Reynolds number and long wavelength approximation. Exact solution of the temperature equation in the absence of dissipation term has been computed and the analytical ex- pression for stream function and axial pressure gradient are established. The flow is analyzed in a wave frame of reference moving with the velocity of wave. The expression for pressure rise has been computed numerically. The physical features of pertinent parameters are analyzed by plotting graphs and discussed in detail.

Six dicarboxylic acids 3a-3f were synthesized dianhydride 1 with L-aminoacids 2a-2f in a solution of glacial new poly（amide-imide）s PAIs were synthesized from by the reaction of 3,3＇,4,4＇-benzophenonetetracarboxylic acetic acid/pyridine （Py） at refluxing temperature. Then six the direct polycondensation reaction of [N,N＇-（4,4＇- carbonyldiphtaloyl）-bis-L-amino diacid]s with 1,5-bis（4-aminophenyl）penta-l,4-dien-3-one （APPD）. The polymerization reactions produced a series of new optically active PAls with high yield and good inherent viscosity. Also these PAls are optically active and soluble in various organic solvents chromatography for the separation of enantiomeric mixtures. Wedge-Shaped Pop-Up Structure in the Eslami Peninsula, Lake Urmia, Northwestern Iran

Ancient subduction zones are characterized by metamorphic and orogenic belts. The Zagros Orogenic Belt comprises almost all sections of an ancient subduction zone along which Neo-Tethyan oceanic crust was subducted beneath central Iran. The Eslami Peninsula, as a part of the Zagros Orogenic Belt in Azerbaijan province, northwestern Iran, is situated between the Lake Urmia fore-arc basin and the Sahand Magmatic Arc. This region contains Eocene leucite dikes, trachyte, tephrite, phenolite, basanite and syenite. Volcanic features related to the Sahand are located in the eastern part of the Eslami Peninsula. In view of its relative age and composition, the Eslami Peninsula proposed as an outer arc of the Sahand Magmatic Arc that formed within the post-collisional setting of the central Iranian and Arabian plates. After subduction and contact of the two plates, a symmetric pop-up structure has been created by thrusting in the Zagros belt as a result of the collision processes. The injesction of dikes in the Eslami Peninsula is also a result of the continent continent collision.

Hybrid Effects of Thermal and Concentration Convection on Peristaltic Flow of Fourth Grade Nanofluids in an Inclined Tapered Channel: Applications of Double-Diffusivity

This article brings into focus the hybrid effects of thermal and concentration convection on peristaltic pumping of fourth grade nanofluids in an inclined tapered ***,the brief mathematical modelling of the fourth grade nanofluids is provided along with thermal and concentration *** Lubrication method is used to simplify the partial differential equations which are tremendously ***,analytical technique is applied to solve the differential equations that are strongly nonlinear in nature,and exact solutions of temperature,volume fraction of nanoparticles,and concentration are *** and graphical findings manifest the influence of various physical flow-quantity *** is observed that the nanoparticle fraction decreases because of the increasing values of Brownian motion parameter and Dufour parameter,whereas the behaviour of nanoparticle fraction is quite opposite for thermophoresis *** is also noted that the temperature profile decreases with increasing Brownian motion parameter values and rises with Dufour parameter ***,the concentration profile ascends with increasing thermophoresis parameter and Soret parameter values.

Classical and Inverse Median Location Problems under Uncertain Environment

In this paper,we first consider the classical p-median location problem on a network in which the vertex weights and the distances between vertices are uncertain *** uncertainty distribution of the optimal objective value of the p-median problem is given and the concepts of the α-p-median,the most p-median and the expected p-median are ***,it is shown that the uncertain p-median problem is NP-hard on general ***,if the underlying network is a tree,an efficient algorithm for the uncertain 1-median problem with linear time complexity is ***,we investigate the inverse 1-median problem on a tree with uncertain vertex weights and present a programming model for the ***,it is shown that the proposed model can be reformulated into a deterministic programming model.

This paper determines the risk for cardiovascular diseases(CVDs).and nutrition level in infants aged 06 montlis using Fuzzy Cognitive Maps(FCMs).The aim of this study is to facilitates the medical experts to early detects these diseases with accuracy,so that overall death ratio can be ***,we have introduced the concepts of FCMs and briefly refer to the applications of these methods in *** that,two intel ligent decision support systems for cardiovascular and malnutrition are developed using *** proposed cardiovascular risk assessment system takes six inputs:chest pain,cholesterol,heart rate,blood pressure,blood sugar,and old peak and determines CVDs *** second decision support system of malnutrition diagnosis takes twelve inputs:breastfeeding,daily income,maternal education,colostrum intake,energy intake,protein intake,vitamin A intake,iron intake,family size,height,weight,head circumference,and skin fold thickness and diagnoses the nutrition level in *** have explained the working of both decision support systems using case studies.
