A New Algorithm for a Condenser Design for Large-Scale Nuclear Power Plants in Tropical Region

This work presents a new velocity search algorithm for designing a condenser of a 1200 MWe large-scale nuclear power plant situated in tropical *** this,the condenser pressure was considered in the range of 7.5-15 kPa while its tube inner diameter was taken as 28 mm with 1 mm tube wall *** longitudinal and transverse condensers with multiple shell tanks and varied shell tank lengths from 8-14 m have been considered in this *** different tertiary coolant temperature rises were chosen as 4°C,8°C and 12°C by considering tropical region average reservoir water temperature range of 28°C to 32°C during *** of tertiary coolant was kept within 0.75-1.5 m/s to ensure sufficient turbulence to avoid erosion-corrosion of the *** simulation has been employed to obtain tube-side pressure drop and convection heat transfer coefficient directly from tertiary coolant inlet velocity using κ-ω turbulent flow model.A new iterative“Velocity-search algorithm”has been developed that focuses on finding the correct tertiary coolant velocity instead of overall heat transfer *** revealed that velocity-search algorithm yielded very close to the important physical and thermal parameters of condenser compared to the existing design data in large scale nuclear power ***-search algorithm has given less number of condenser design physical parameters that meets the velocity acceptance criteria for longitudinal condenser compared to the transverse ***,velocity-search algorithm is found to be more reliable,robust,and consistent for condenser design compared to the conventional design algorithm used in Log-Mean Temperature Difference method.

Antitumor activity of Aponogeton undulatus against Ehrilich ascites carcinoma in Swiss albino mice

Objective:To investigate in vitro antioxidant and in vivo antitumor activity of the crude methanolic extract of Aponogeton undulatus(MAU) along with its various organic ***:Aponogeton undulatus leaves were successively extracted using methanol(MAU)and then fractionated by chloroform,ethyl acetate(EAU) and *** total antioxidant capacity,lipid peroxidation inhibition assay.1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) free radical scavenging assay and ferrous reducing power assessment were used to evaluate the antioxidant potential of the crude extract and its organic *** in vivo antitumor activity is evaluated against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAC) cell bearing in Swiss albino ***:EAU showed the highest antioxidant capacity as(175.80±0.41)mg/g,IC_(50)value of DPPH scavenging activity was(38.84±0.02)μg/mL and also exhibited maximum lipid peroxidation inhibition activity with the IC_(50) value of(42.52±0.32)μg/mL than other *** results demonstrate that reducing power of the extract was concentration *** addition,EAU was administered at 50.100 and 200 mg/kg body weight respectively to EAC cell bearing mice and a significant(P<0.05)decrease in tumor volume,packed cell volume and viable cell count and also increased the life span(17.52% .42.53% and 62.05% ).Hematological profiles were restored to normal levels in MAU treated mice as compared to EAC control ***:The results were found to be significant and confirmed that the Aponogeton undulatus has remarkable antitumor activity with antioxidant potential.

Sorbitol-based osmotic diarrhea:Possible causes and mechanism of prevention investigated in rats

AIM: To study the possible causes of sorbitol (S)-based diarrhea and its mechanism of reduction by rice gruel (RG) in cecectomized rats. METHODS: S was dissolved either in distilled water or in RG (50 g/L) and ingested as a single oral dose (1.2 g/kg body mass, containing 0.5 g/L phenol red as a re-covery marker) by S (control) and S + RG groups (n = 7), respectively. This dose is over the laxative dose for hu-mans. Animals were sacrificed exactly 1 h after dose in-gestion, without any access to drinking water. The whole gastro-intestinal tract was divided into seven segments and sampled to analyze the S and marker remaining in its ***: Gastric-emptying and intestinal transit were comparatively slower in the S + RG group. Also, the S absorption index in the 3rd and last quarter of the small intestine (24.85 ± 18.88% vs 0.0 ± 0.0% and 39.09 ± 32.75% vs 0.0 ± 0.0%, respectively, P < 0.05) was sig-nificantly higher in the S + RG group than in the control group. The S absorption index and the intestinal fluid volume are inversely related to each other. CONCLUSION: The intestinal mal-absorption of S is the main reason for S-based osmotic diarrhea. Where RG en-hanced the absorption of S through passive diffusion, the degree of diarrhea was reduced in cecectomized rats.

The Dauki Fault at the Shillong Plateau-Bengal Basin Boundary in Northeastern India:2D Finite Element Modeling

The Dauki fault is a major fault along the southern boundary of the Shillong plateau that may be a source of destructive seismic hazards for the adjoining areas, including northeastern Bangladesh. In this study, we simulated the present stress distribution and the ongoing convergence deformation within the study area using numerical simulation. This simulation attempts to deter- mine the proper dip angle of the Dauki fault from a variety of differently established models but with the same realistic boundary conditions. The simulated stress field helped to predict the type of tec- tonic environment and the faulting patterns of the study area. The best-fit model can account for the compressive stress regime in the study area, except in the uppermost part of the Shillong plateau, the Bengal basin, and Assam areas where extensional stress regimes exists. In the model, the elements for which Mohr-Coulomb＇s failure occurs correspond with the observed earthquake data that refer to the Dauki fault as a north-dipping thrust fault.

Analysis of Social and Psychological Terrain of Bank Erosion Victims: A Study Along the Bhagirathi River, West Bengal, India

Social psychology of people affected by hazards is different from normal psychology. For example, severe bank erosion in the lower reach of the Bhagirathi River in West Bengal has resulted in significant land loss （-60% of all households lost land over last 20 years） and affected the livelihoods of the people in the study villages along the river. Per capita income has almost halved from 1970-2012 due to land loss. This stark nature of land erosion and vulnerability of livelihood has had far-reaching repercussions on the fabric of society and the psychology of the people in this region. Results showed that erosion-affected villages have registered compara- tively larger average family sizes （-4.1 as compared to -3.9 in non-affected villages）, lower literacy levels （〈 50% compared to 〉 65% for the non-affected villages）, and poor health. Reports of poor health as a result of land erosion include -60% of the respondents having reported physical ailments such as headache and abdominal discomfort, as well as 3%-5% reporting loss of emotional and psychological balance. Villages suffering from erosion showed higher positive loadings in average-coefficient of variation （CV） differential （25%-40%） depicting objectivity in their opinions for select variables of social processes. Principal component analysis （PCA） por- trayed maximum eigenvalues in the first principal component for interpersonal processes （-98%） and a minimum for intergroup proc- esses （-80%）. Categorical principal component analysis （CATPCA） depicted a cluster between interpersonal and intergroup processes and another between intra-individual and group categories. The positive loadings in female-male differences in CV of perceptions portrayed relative consistency of males over the females concerning fear/phobia and physical stress while negative loadings exhibited higher consistency for females regarding psychological stress and shock. The Relationship between Birds Diversity and Habitats in Phou Khao Khouay (PKK) National Park of Lao PDR

In recent years, global warming, drought and little rain, forest fires, forest destruction and other human disturbances have had an important impact on the habitat environment of birds, affecting the number and quality of bird habitats, directly threatening the survival and reproduction of birds, leading to a sharp decline in the diversity of bird species. In this study, the PKK National Park (18䓎' - 18䓠'N;102䓦' - 102䓻'E), Laos was used as a research site. The birds and their habitats in the park were used as research objects. The species, quantity and distribution of birds were investigated. In addition, the distribution of vegetation and the relationship between bird’s community and habitat types in PKK National Park were studied. Species diversity and Abundance of birds at PKK National Park, was monthly assessed by point count method between January and December 2018. A total of 117 species of birds belonging to 43 families and 18 orders were found in the inspection areas. Among them, Passerine birds (60 species) and Non-Finches (57 species) were almost equal to each other, accounting for 51.3% and 48.7% of total birds species respectively. Again, Anseriformes birds account for the largest number amongst Non-Passeriformes, reaching 15 species, followed by Falconiformes, accounting for 20.5% of total. On the other hand, based on migratory habits, resident birds were found to be highest in our research site which account for 35.04% of total birds and followed by Summer Migratory birds (32.28%), Passage Migrant (23.93%) and Winter Migratory birds (6.83%). Through the quantitative measurement and analysis of various parameters, the focus is on the diversity of birds and species in the park. Further, the factors that can affect species diversity, especially the bird’s survival factors such as vegetation change pattern, transformation rate of green areas, recruitment and restoration pattern of wild animals, especially birds, and other beneficial

Characterization of ^(68)Zn uptake,translocation,and accumulation into developing grains and young leaves of high Zn-density rice genotype

Zinc(Zn) is an essential micronutrient for humans,but Zn deficiency has become serious as equally as iron(Fe) and vitamin A deficiencies *** and breeding of high Zn-density crops is a suitable,cost-effective,and sustainable way to improve human ***,the mechanism of high Zn density in rice grain is not fully understood,especially how Zn transports from soil to *** experiments were carried out to compare Zn uptake and distribution in two different Zn-density rice genotypes using stable isotope *** seedling stage,IR68144 showed higher 68Zn uptake and transport rate to the shoot for the short-term,but no signifi-cant difference was observed in both genotypes for the *** in xylem sap of IR68144 was consistently higher,and IR68144 exhibited higher Zn absorption ratio than IR64 at sufficient(2.0 μmol/L) or surplus(8.0 μmol/L) Zn supply ***64 and IR68144 showed similar patterns of 68Zn accumulation in new leaves at seedling stage and in de-veloping grains at ripening stage,whereas 68Zn in new leaves and grains of IR68144 was consistently *** results suggested that a rapid root-to-shoot translocation and enhanced xylem loading capacity may be the crucial processes for high Zn density in rice grains.

Rheology and lubricity characteristics study at different temperatures using synthesized SnO_(2) nanoparticles in KCl free bentonite water base mud

Drilling mud is a major concerning element due to its high operational and economic impact on the drilling *** additives are introduced to enhance the efficiency of drilling fluid,but none of them could perfectly achieve their proposed efficacy in drilling *** conceived several nanoparticles(NPs)in drilling fluid to dissolve this *** a singular instance,commercial tin oxide(SnO_(2))nanoparticles were utilized to analyze the influence of NPs on the rheological and filtration properties of inorganic KCl salt-based drilling ***,the effect of SnO_(2) NPs on mud lubricity characteristics is not studied ***,due to the hazardous behavior of KCl,its use is very ***,we consider a KCl-free bentonite water-based mud to avoid any environmental damages from drilling *** also use SnO_(2) NPs that is synthesized in our laboratory by co-precipitation *** addition to rheological and filtration properties,we also investigate the effect of NPs on mud's lubricity that was not considered in the previous *** fluid properties are measured at five different NPs concentrations of 0.10,0.25,0.50,0.75&1.0 wt%,and at six different temperatures of 30,40,50,60,70,and 80°C,while filtration properties are measured using API low-pressure low temperature(LPLT)*** addition of 0.1 wt%SnO_(2) NPs increases plastic viscosity,yield point,10 s gel strength,and 10 min gel strength by 10%,63%,20%,and 14%,*** maximum reduction in lubricity coefficient is found to be 14%at NPs concentration of 1.0 wt%.The NPs concentration of 0.5 wt%yielded a reduction in fluid loss and mud cake thickness by 8.1%and 34%,*** study suggests that SnO_(2) NPs can be employed as an additive to improve the rheology,lubricity,and filtration properties of KCl-free bentonite water-based drilling mud.

Estimation of Solar Radiation on Horizontal and Tilted Surface over Bangladesh

To estimate the monthly averaged solar radiations (global, diffuse and direct solar radiation) on horizontal surface and tilted surface over 10 stations (districts) in Bangladesh, thirty years monthly averaged data of various meteorological parameters namely the monthly averaged value of maximum temperature, minimum temperature, humidity and sunshine hours were used in this study. Assessment of the solar resources for the solar based renewable energy technologies of Bangladesh may be based upon this kind of measured data analyzed study. This study tried to estimate the monthly averaged solar radiation by presenting data in table and graph and finally analyze through equations and descriptions. Correlation between the measurements of monthly averaged solar radiation and the meteorological parameters was given for the selected 10 stations in Bangladesh. In conclusion, we tried to make a comparison among solar radiation on horizontal surface, fixed 20.83 ° (degree) optimal tilt angle and variable optimal tilt surface at Dhaka station.
