Enhanced organic solar cell performance: Multiple surface plasmon resonance and incorporation of silver nanodisks into a grating‐structure electrode

In this study, plasmonic nanostructures were examined to enhance the light harvesting of organic thin-film solar cells (OSCs) by multiple surface plasmon resonance (SPR) phenomena originating from the grating-coupled configuration with a Blu-ray Disc recordable (BD-R)-imprinted aluminum (Al) grating structure and the incorporation of a series of silver nanodisks (Ag NDs). The devices with such a configuration maximize the light utilization inside OSCs via light absorption, light scattering, and trapping via multiple surface plasmon resonances. Different types and sizes of metallic nanoparticles (NPs), i.e., gold nanoparticles (Au NPs), Ag nanospheres (Ag NSs), and Ag NDs, were used, which were blended separately in a PEDOT:PSS hole transport layer (HTL). The device structure comprised of grating- imprinted-Al/P3HT:PCBM/Ag ND:PEDOT:PSS/ITO. Results obtained from the J–V curves revealed that the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of grating-structured Al/P3HT:PCBM/PEDOT:PSS/ITO is 3.16%;this value is ~6% higher than that of a flat substrate. On the other hand, devices with flat Al and incorporated Au NPs, Ag NSs, or Ag NDs in the HTL exhibited PCEs ranging from 3.15% to 3.37%. Furthermore, OSCs with an Al grating substrate were developed by the incorporation of the Ag ND series into the PEDOT:PSS layer. Compared with that of a reference device, the PCEs of the devices increased to 3.32%–3.59%(11%–20% improvement), indicating that the light absorption enhancement at the active layer corresponds to the grating-coupled surface plasmon resonance and localized surface plasmon resonance excitations with strong near-field distributions penetrating into the active layer leading to higher efficiencies and subsequent better current generation.

AIM: To evaluate prognoses after cutaneous metastases, derived from pancreatic cancer. METHODS: We treated two patients with cutaneous metastases from pancreatic cancer. We reviewed 40 reported patients in addition to our cases and analyzed clinical features of cutaneous metastases from pancreatic cancer. RESULTS: The median survival time (MST) was 5 mo after diagnoses of cutaneous metastases. The cumulative 2-year survival rate was 3.5%. The most frequent site of cutaneous metastases was the umbilicus. The MST of patients who were treated with chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy (CRT) was 6.5 mo, which was statistically longer in comparison to patients without treatment. Prognoses of cutaneous metastases are similar to other metastatic sites from pancreatic cancer. Receiving chemotherapy or CRT was the only prognostic factor of cutaneous metastases from pancreatic ***: The prognoses of cutaneous metastases are similar to other metastatic pancreatic cancers. Perforation after endoscopic retrograde cholan- giopancreatography (ERCP) is a rare but severe complication. Management of ERCP-associated duodenal perforation remains controversial. Some recommend surgery, while others recommend conservative treatment. We describe the case who developed perforation of the duodenum and gas in the retroperitoneal cavity after ERCP. There was no sign of peritonitis, pancreatitis or sepsis. The patient was treated by conservative therapy without operation, and finally, fully re- covered from perforation.

The purpose of this study is to verify an 1D multi-plate heat-transfer model estimating the temperature distribution on the interface between polymer electrolyte membrane and catalyst layer at cathode in single cell of polymer electrolyte fuel cell, which is named as reaction surface in this study, with a 3D numerical simulation model solving many governing equations on the coupling phenomena in the cell. The results from both models/simulations agreed well. The effects of initial operation temperature, flow rate, and relative humidity of supply gas on temperature distribution on the reaction surface were also investigated. It was found in both 1D and 3D simulations that, the temperature rise （i.e., Treact-Tini） of the reaction surface from initial operation temperature at 70℃ was higher than that at 80℃ irrespective of flow rate of supply gas. The effect of relative humidity of supply gas on Treact- Tini near the inlet of the cell was small. Compared to the previous studies conducted under the similar operation conditions, the Treact - Tini calculated by 1D multi-plate heat-transfer model in this study as well as numerical simulation using 3D model was reasonable.

Pancreatic pseudocyst-portal vein fistulae are extremely rare, and cause serious complications, including life-threatening sepsis. We report a 57-year-old man with pancreatic pseudocyst who was admitted to our hospital complaining of prolonged abdominal pain. A pancreatic duct tube was placed into the main pancreatic duct, as the pseudocyst was communicated to the pancreatic duct. He fell into septic shock state two weeks later. An ultrasonography-guided percutaneous drainage of the pseudocyst was performed. The amylase level of drained pus was 80,000 U/l. Pancreatic pseudocyst-portal vein fistula was demonstrated by fisterography. Symptoms disappeared immediately after drainage. No recurrence was observed afterward.

Leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava (IVC) is a rare tumor, and it needs complete surgical resection for cure. In addition, the reconstruction of IVC is necessary in many cases. Herein, we indicate the case of a 57-year-old female with leiomyosarcoma in segment I of the IVC, which grew deep into vascular lumen. She underwent complete en bloc resection of the tumor and IVC reconstruction by an artificial pericardium patch.
