The spin-up time TA in the spin-up process and spin-down time TD in the spin-down process of rotational air flow in the cylindrical vortex chamber with three kinds of the artificial surface roughness were investigated. One of the most different characteristics between the smooth and rough surface conditions was the spin-down time TD. Also the transient response of the tangential velocity on the spin-up process was analyzed numerically and this result was compared with the experimental results. The above stated results are reported here in detail.

The western Iratsu mass, the largest tectonic body in the Sambagawa metamorphic belt, central Shikoku, is mainly composed of epidote amphibolite with minor amounts of eclogite. Systematically, a majority of garnets show bell-shaped chemical zoning of pyrope contents and Mg/(Mg+Fe2+) monotonously increasing outward. The grossular component in zonal garnet increases outwards, maximizes at an intermediate part, and then decreases towards the outermost rim, reflecting a process from increasing to decreasing pressure conditions during the prograde metamorphism. Jadeite contents of omphacite range from 25～20mole% within the cores to 15～10 mole% at the rims, implying a pressure-decreasing process (from 11 × 105 Pa to 8 × 105 Pa). The peak pressure-temperature (P-T) condition of 630～680 ℃ and ca. 15× 105 Pa in the western Iratsu mass is much higher than that of (610±25) ℃ and (10± 1)× 105 Pa of the Sambagawa oligoclase-biotite zone schists. The authors suggest a clockwise P-T-t path for the western Iratsu mass.

Robust Stability of Nonlinear Plants with a Non-symmetric Prandtl-Ishlinskii Hysteresis Model

In this paper, robust stability of nonlinear plants represented by non-symmetric Prandtl-Ishlinskii （PI） hysteresis model is studied. In general, PI hysteresis model is the weighted superposition of play or stop hysteresis operators, and the slopes of the operators are considered to be the same. In order to make a hysteresis model, a modified form of non-symmetric play hysteresis operator with unknown slopes is given. The hysteresis model is described by a generalized Lipschitz operator term and a bounded parasitic term. Since the generalized Lipschitz operator is unknown, a new condition using robust right coprime factorization is proposed to guarantee robust stability of the controlled plant with the hysteresis nonlinearity. As a result, based on the proposed robust condition, a stabilized plant is obtained. A numerical example is presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Slow and fast light in quantum-well （QW） and quantum-dot （QD） semiconductor optical amplifiers （SOAs） using nonlinear quantum optical effects are presented. We demonstrate electrical and optical controls of fast light using the coherent population oscillation （CPO） and four wave mixing （FWM） in the gain regime of QW SOAs. We then consider the dependence on the wavelength and modal gain of the pump in QW SOAs. To enhance the tunable photonic delay of a single QW SOA, we explore a serial cascade of multiple amplifiers. A model for the number of QW SOAs in series with variable optical attenuation is developed and matched to the experimental data. We demonstrate the scaling law and the bandwidth control by using the serial cascade of multiple QW SOAs. Experimentally, we achieve a phase change of 160^o and a scaling factor of four at 1 GHz using the cascade of four QW SOAs. Finally, we investigate CPO and FWM slow and fast light of QD SOAs. The experiment shows that the bandwidth of the time delay as a function of the modulation frequency changes in the absorption and gain regimes due to the carrier-lifetime variation. The tunable phase shift in QD SOA is compared between the ground- and first excited-state transitions with different modal gains.

A 77-year-old man with jaundice and a pancreatic head tumor was referred to our hospital in *** initial laboratory tests,computed tomography(CT)scan,magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography suggested IgG4-related cholangitis and autoimmune *** prednisolone(PSL)was then *** treatment reduced the size of the pancreatic parenchyma,and the lower common bile duct(CBD)returned to its normal ***,the oral PSL was gradually tapered to a maintenance *** February 2010,a CT scan and MRI showed segmental wall thickening and stenosis of the middle CBD,the progression of which led to extrahepatic obstructive *** suspected the emergence of a cholangiocarcinoma rather than the exacerbation of the IgG4-related sclerosing cholangitis because the stricture of the CBD was short and ***,a percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage was *** biopsy specimens obtained via the percutaneous transhepatic tract indicated an abnormal glandular formation,suggesting the presence of a moderate,well-differencated *** gross examination,microscopic examination and immunohistochemical analysis of the pancreaticoduodenectomy specimen suggested that a cholangiocarcinoma developed from the IgG4-related sclerosing cholangitis.

The conversion of methane and carbon dioxide into syngas(dry reforming of methane;DRM)has attracted attention owing to the potential to reuse greenhouse *** dioxide(TiO_(2))-based photocatalysts,which have been widely commercialized owing to their high efficiency,non-toxicity,and low cost,are strongly desired in ***,we report a monoclinic-phase TiO_(2)-B nanobelts-supported rhodium(Rh/TiO_(2)-B nanobelts)catalyst that efficiently promotes DRM under ultraviolet light irradiation at low *** holes in the TiO_(2)-B nanobelts were used to oxidize methane,while the electrons were trapped in rhodium to reduce carbon ***/TiO_(2)-B nanobelts exhibited considerably higher durability and activity than Rh-loaded conventional TiO_(2)(anatase and rutile),owing to the lattice and/or surface oxygen reactivity in TiO_(2)-B nanobelts,which was suggested by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements and photocatalytic performance tests under an atmosphere of methane *** study paves the path for the effective utilization of methane by constructing active TiO_(2)-based nanometal photocatalysts.

The genomic DNA of bacteria is highly compacted in a single or a few bodies known as nucleoids. Here, we have isolated Escherichia coli nucleoid by sucrose density gradient centrifugation. The sedimentation rates, structures as well as pro- tein/DNA composition of isolated nucleoids were then compared under various growth phases. The nucleoid structures were found to undergo changes during the cell growth; i. e., the nucleoid structure in the stationary phase was more tightly com- pacted than that in the exponential phase. In addition to factor for inversion stimulation （Fis）, histone-like nucleoid structuring protein （H-NS）, heat-unstable nucleoid protein （HU） and integration host factor （IHF） here we have identified, three new can- didates of E. coli nucleoid, namely DNA-binding protein from starved cells （Dps）, host factor for phage QJ3 （Hfq） and sup- pressor of taC phenotype A （StpA）. Our results reveal that the major components of exponential phase nucleoid are Fis, HU, H-NS, StpA and Hfq, while Dps occupies more than half of the stationary phase nucleoid. It has been known for a while that Dps is the main nucleoid-associated protein at stationary phase. From these results and the prevailing information, we propose a model for growth phase dependent changes in the structure and protein composition of nucleoid in E. coli.

Surface Texturing of TiO_2 Film by Mist Deposition of TiO_2 Nanoparticles

Unique and various microstructures of titanium oxide(TiO_2 ) film including macroporous structure, chromatic veins and rings, have been easily fabricated by mist deposition method on silicon substrate with mild preparation conditions. Rutile phase TiO_2 nanoparticles were directly used as starting material to prepare film and led to a simple preparation process. It was found that several different microstructures existed in the sample and changed with the varied positions from the center to the edge of the film when the concentration of the TiO_2 suspension is 0.06 mol/l, the deposition time is 30 min, the flow rate is 1 l/min and the temperature is150. The surface texturing shows apparent distinction as the concentration of the TiO_2 suspension decreased to 0.03 mol/l and 0.01 mol/l.

Dynamic distribution of TTK in HeLa cells: insights from an ultrastructural study

Entry into mitosis is driven by signaling cascades of mitotic kinases. Our recent studies show that TTK, a kinetochore-associated protein kinase, interacts with CENP-E, a mitotic kinesin located to corona fiber of kinetochore. Using immunoelectron microscopy, here we show that TTK is present at the nuclear pore adjacent complex of interphase HeLa cells. Upon nuclear envelope fragmentation, TTK targets to the outermost region of the developing kinetochores of monoorient chromosome as well as to spindle poles. After stable attachment, throughout chromosome congression, TTK is a constituent of the corona fibers, extending up to 90 nm away from the kinetochore outer plate. Upon metaphase alignment, TTK departs from the kinetochore and migrates toward the centrosomes. Taken together, this evidence strongly supports a model in which TTK functions in spindle checkpoint signaling cascades at both kinetochore and centrosome.

Plant health is fundamental for agricultural production to feed the growing global population as well as for primary production to sustain ecosystem *** innate immune system of plants is integral to their health;it is activated upon recognition of pathogen invasion by immune receptors,leading to pathogen resistance through genome-wide transcriptional *** defense-associated transcriptome reprogramming is mediated by various immune signals,including the phytohormone salicylic acid(SA).SA plays a pivotal role in activating pathogen resistance both locally in infected tissues and systemically in uninfected *** Arabidopsis thaliana,SA is perceived by its receptors NONEXPRESSOR OF PATHOGENESIS-RELATED GENES 1(NPR1),NPR3,and *** NPR3 and NPR4 function as negative regulators of SA signaling,NPR1 serves as a key positive regulator of SA-mediated transcriptomic changes and pathogen resistance(Ding et al.,2018).Consistent with its lack of a DNA-binding domain,NPR1 has been shown to act as a transcription cofactor for multiple transcription factors(TFs)such as TGAs and WRKYs(Wang et al.,2006;Kumar et al.,2022).Besides TFs,other components of the transcriptional machinery are likely to participate in NPR1-regulated transcriptional responses,as NPR1 forms nuclear condensates upon SA induction(Zavaliev et al.,2020).Despite decades of research on NPR1’s functions in plant immunity,a comprehensive understanding of how NPR1 cooperates with multiple TFs and other components of the transcriptional machinery to initiate and propagate transcriptional responses to SA is still lacking.
