Piezoelectric Power Harvesting Process via Phase Changes of Low-Boiling-Point Medium Together with Water for Recovering Low-Temperature Heats

Low-temperature thermal energy conversions down to exergy zero to electric power must contribute energy sustainability. That is to say, reinforcements of power harvesting technologies from extremely low temperatures less than 373 K might be at least one of minimum roles for the current generations. Then, piezoelectric power harvesting process for recovering low-temperature heats was invented by using a unique biphasic operating medium of an underlying water-insoluble/low-boiling-point medium (i.e. NOVEC manufactured by 3M Japan Ltd.) in small quantity and upper-layered water in large quantity. The higher piezoelectric power harvesting densities were naturally revealed with an increase in heating temperatures. Excessive cooling of the operating medium deteriorated the power harvesting efficiency. The denser operating medium was surpassingly helpful to the higher piezoelectric power harvesting density. Concretely, only about 5% density increase of main operating medium (i.e. water with dissolving alum at 0.10 mol/dm3) came to the champion piezoelectric power harvesting density of 92.6 pW/dm2 in this study, which was about 1.4 times compared to that with the original biphasic medium of pure water together with a small quantity of NOVEC.

Background and Aims:The clinical introduction of hepcidin25(Hep25)has led to a more detailed understanding of its relationship with ferroportin(FP)and divalent metal transporter1 in primary iron overload syndromes(PIOSs).In 2012,we proposed a classification of PIOSs based on the Hep25/FP system,which consists of prehepatic aceruloplasminemia,hepatic hemochromatosis(HC),and posthepatic FP disease(FP-D).However,in consideration of accumulated evidence on PIOSs,we aimed to renew the ***:We reviewed the 2012 classification and retrospectively renewed it according to new information on ***:Iron-loading anemia was included in PIOSs as a prehepatic form because of the newly discovered erythroferrone-induced suppression of Hep25,and the state of traditional FP-D was remodeled as the BIOIRON *** key molecules responsible for prehepatic PIOSs are low transferrin saturation in aceruloplasminemia and increased erythroferrone production by erythroblasts in iron-loading *** PIOSs comprise four genotypes of HC,in each of which the synthesis of Hep25 is inappropriately reduced in the *** Hep25 synthesis is adequate in posthepatic PIOSs;however,two mutant FP molecules may resist Hep25 differently,resulting in SLC40A1-HC and FP-D,*** phenotypes are diagnosed using laboratory tests,including circulating Hep25,followed by suitable *** sequencing of the candidate genes may be outsourced to gene centers when *** kits for the prevalent mutations,such as C282Y,may be the first choice for a genetic analysis of HC in ***:The revised classification may be useful worldwide.

An application of contra-rotating rotors has been proposed against a demand for developing higher specific speed axial flow pump. In the present paper, the advantage and disadvantage of using contra-rotating rotors are described in comparison with conventional type of rotor-stator, based on theoretical and experimental investigations. The advantages are as follows：（1） The pump is inherently designed as smaller sized and at lower rotational speed. （2） A stable head-characteristic curve for flow rate with negative slope appears. （3） As the rear rotor rotational speed is varied as independent control of front rotor, the wider range of high performance operation is obtained by rear rotor speed control in addition to front rotor speed control. The disadvantages are as follows：（1） The structure of double shaft system becomes complex. （2） The pump performance is inferior at over flow rate as the rear rotor loading is weakened. （3） The blade rows interaction from rear rotor to front rotor more strongly appears. Then the rear rotor design is a key to achieve higher pump performance. Some methods to overcome these disadvantages will be discussed in more details toward wider usage of contra-rotating axial flow pump in various industrial fields.

Consider an optimization problem arising from the generalized eigenvalue problem Ax = λBx, where A, B ∈ C;and m > n. Ito et al. showed that the optimization problem can be solved by utilizing right singular vectors of C := [B, A]. In this paper, we focus on computing intervals containing the solution. When some singular values of C are multiple or nearly multiple, we can enclose bases of corresponding invariant subspaces of C;C, where C;denotes the conjugate transpose of C, but cannot enclose the corresponding right singular *** purpose of this paper is to prove that the solution can be obtained even when we utilize the bases instead of the right singular vectors. Based on the proved result, we propose an algorithm for computing the intervals. Numerical results show property of the algorithm.

A continuous investigation of aerosol pollutants in Cape Hedo, Japan was conducted from October 2005 to August 2006 by Aerodyne aerosol mass spectrometer （AMS）. This article focused on the analysis of long-range transport of organic aerosol from continental origin to the remote island. Based on the transport distance and air mass origin, four main air mass origins were considered, including North China, South China, Japan and Korea. Although the mass concentration and air mass origin were quite different during study period, the mass spectrum and size distribution of organic matter and oxidized organics were similar, which showed uni-modal distribution with modal diameter of around 500 nm. The loss rate of organics was （5.15 ± 0.55） × 10^-6 s^-1 obtained by plotting the concentration against the transport time. Conversion rate of SO2 to sulfate and oxidation rate of organics were （1.07 ± 0.15） × 10^-5 and （1.09 ± 0.52） × 10^-6 s^-1, respectively.

An investigation at Cape Hedo, Japan, from 2005 to 2006, focused on the long-range transport of organic aerosol （OA） from the Asian continent. An Aerodyne aerosol mass spectrometer was used to investigate the OA data collected over the study. OA concentrations were low from July to September and peaked during March and April. Based on air mass origins, four OA source regions were identified： northern China, southern China, Japan, and Korea. OA concentrations measured at Cape Hedo from the four sources did not exhibit large differences. Conversely, the frequencies of the air masses reaching Cape Hedo from the different regions varied considerably. Northern China was identified as the primary source of organic aerosols at Cape Hedo. Examination of variations in the ratio of m/z 44 to OA concentrations with transport time showed that OAs were partially oxidized during transport

An application of contra-rotating rotors has been proposed against a demand for developing higher specific speed axial flow pump. The blade rows interaction between front and rear rotors should be clarified for its stable operation and reduction of unsteady losses. In this paper, the static pressure distributions on casing wall are provided by measuring with the phase locked sampling method. The measurements are carried out for two types of the rear rotors with different blade number and chord length, and it is found that, for both types of rotors, the unsteady pressure fluctuations are more remarkable in the front rotor than in the rear rotor and they are caused by the rear rotor pressure field. The effects of pressure fluctuations will be discussed in more details toward understanding the blade rows interaction in the contra-rotating axial flow pump.

Photochemical production of ozone in marine boundary layer in the sea of Japan:Results of the Rishiri Fall Experiment campaign

The Rishiri Fall Experiment (RISFEX ) campaign was performed in September 2003 at Rishiri island (45.07 N,141.12 E,and 35 m asl) in the sea of Japan to investigate photochemical production of ozone in the marine boundary layer. Total peroxy radicals ROx (HO2 + RO2) and NOx (NO + NO2) were measured together with other chemical species and physical parameters relevant to ozone production. The ozone production rate (P(O3)) was estimated from measured peroxy radicals and was found to be highly variable between days,with 30-min averaged midday values varying from 0.2 to 1.7 ppbv/h (ppbv refers to part per billion by volume). The daytime mean P(O3) for the air masses from relatively clean NE sector is close to zero,but significantly higher for air masses from more polluted W and SE sector,suggesting the impact of transport of pollutants on the remote local ozone production. The experimentally determined P(O3) is compared with those derived from a time-dependent box model based on Regional Atmospheric Chemistry Modeling (RACM),and both the methods give the results generally in agreement. The model calculation shows that HO2 + NO reaction contributes most to ozone production,ca. 60% at midday,followed by the reactions of CH3O2 and ISOP (peroxy radicals formed from isoprene) with NO which account for ca. 13% and 10% to ozone production,respectively,at noon. Sensitivity analysis indicates that the ozone production during the measurement period is within NOx-limited regime.

The development of vehicle integrated photovoltaics-powered electric vehicles (VIPV-EV) significantly reduces CO2 emissions from the transport sector to realize a decarbonized society. Although long-distance driving of VIPV-EV without electricity charging is expected in sunny regions, driving distance of VIPV-EV is affected by climate conditions such as solar irradiation and temperature rise of PV modules. In this paper, detailed analytical results for effects of climate conditions such as solar irradiation and temperature rise of PV modules upon driving distance of the VIPV-EV were presented by using test data for Toyota Prius and Nissan Van demonstration cars installed with high-efficiency InGaP/GaAs/InGaAs 3-junction solar cell modules with a module efficiency of more than 30%. The temperature rise of some PV modules studied in this study was shown to be expressed by some coefficients related to solar irradiation, wind speed and radiative cooling. The potential of VIPV-EV to be deployed in 10 major cities was also analyzed. Although sunshine cities such as Phoenix show the high reduction ratio of driving range with 17% due to temperature rise of VIPV modules, populous cities such as Tokyo show low reduction ratio of 9%. It was also shown in this paper that the difference between the driving distance of VIPV-EV driving in the morning and the afternoon is due to PV modules’ radiative cooling. In addition, the importance of heat dissipation of PV modules and the development of high-efficiency PV modules with better temperature coefficients was suggested in order to expand driving range of VIPV-EV. The effects of air-conditioner usage and partial shading in addition to the effects of temperature rise of VIPV modules were suggested as the other power losses of VIPV-EV.
