Round Robin Study on the Thermal Conductivity/Diffusivity of a Gold Wire with a Diameter of 30μm Tested via Five Measurement Methods

Since first establishing thermal measurement techniques for micrometer-scale wires,various methods have been devised and improved upon.However,the uncertainty of different measurements on the same sample has not yet been discussed.In this work,a round robin test was performed to compare the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity measurement methods for a fine metal wire.The tested material was a pure gold wire,with a diameter of 30μm.The wire was cut into certain lengths and distributed to four institutions using five different measurement methods:the direct current(DC)self-heating method,the DC heating T-type method,the 3ωmethod for thermal conductivity,the scanning laser heating alternating current(AC)method,and the spot periodic heating radiation thermometry method for thermal diffusivity.After completing the measurements,the reported thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity at room temperature,i.e.,317 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1)and 128×10^(-6)m^(2)·s^(-1),respectively,were adopted as references for comparison with the measurement results.The advantages and disadvantages of each method are described in terms of the effect of electrical and thermal junctions fabricated on a wire,such as an electrode,a thermocouple,and a heat bath.The knowledge obtained from the tested methods will be useful for selecting and designing a measurement technique for various wire-like materials.

Aslanger’s sign,also known as the arterial pulse tapping artifact or electromechanical association artifact,is an electrocardiographic artifact caused by arterial pulsation at the site where the limb leads of the standard 12-lead electrocardiogram near the radial or posterior tibial arteries are positioned,particularly in hyperdynamic states.[1–8]It occurs in every cardiac cycle with a constant coupling interval between the QRS complex and artifact.This synchronization with the underlying heart rhythm makes it less likely to be recognized as an artifact compared to unsynchronized artifacts,such as those caused by limb movement and inadequate contact between the electrode and skin.[1,2,7,8]Almost all reported cases of Aslanger’s sign exhibit an unusual waveform morphology in all 12 leads except one of the standard 12-lead electrocardiogram.This sign is often confused with an electrocardiographic finding commonly observed during acute coronary events.

Effects of alginate and laminaran on the microbiota and antioxidant properties of human faecal cultures

Alginate and laminaran are water soluble dietary fibres in brown algae.In a previous study,pure cultures of Bacteroides xylanisolvens,Bacteroides uniformis,and Erysipelaclostridium ramosum increased antioxidant capacities in the broth with alginate and/or laminaran fermentation.This study was conducted to evaluate the presence of the alginate-and laminaran-responsive human gut indigenous bacteria(RIB)and their functions.Briefly,human stool samples were cultured in media without(control),or with 1%(w/v)alginate or laminaran at 37℃ for 24 h under anaerobic conditions.Results showed that during incubation,the pH of the culture reduced with the polysaccharides.Phenol production was clearly suppressed via laminaran supplementation in the faecal sample cultures.The 16S rRNA(V4)gene amplicon sequencing confirmed that B.xylanisolvens-,B.uniformis and E.ramosum-like bacteria were alginate-and/or laminaran-RIB in human gut,although their read numbers differed among individuals.Additionally,some butyrate-producers,such as Faecalibacterium and Roseburia,were also detected as the RIB in alginate and laminaran cultures,respectively.Fermentation increased 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl and superoxide anion radical-scavenging capacities and the Fe-reducing power of the culture medium.Additionally,the fermented cultures increased the nitric oxide secretion in macrophage like RAW 264.7 cells culture.These results suggest that the interaction of alginate and laminaran with their RIB may have desirable effects on the host as next generation prebiotics when brown algae are ingested.

Ultrasonic echo signal fetures of dissimilar material bonding joints

An ultrasonic evaluation method of echo feature of diffusion bond joint between two dissimilar materials is presented. The echo signal was acquired by an automatic ultrasonic C-scan test system. It is found that the intensity of echo and its phase can be used to evaluate the joint quality, and interface products of dissimilar materials bonding can be evaluated by ultrasonic method.

CREB-binding proteins (CBP) as a transcriptional coactivator of GATA-2

The GATA family consists of six members, GATA 1-6. In this study, we focused on GATA-2, which is expressed predominantly in hematopoietic progenitor cells and plays the key role in keeping these cells in the undifferentiated status. CREB-binding proteins (CBP) are essential transcriptional coacti- vators for a large number of regulated DNA-binding transcription factors, including GATA-1. But there have been no reports on whether CBP is still a co-activator of GATA-2. Here, we used the immunopre- cipitation and pull-down experiments to show that the GATA-2 and CBP were physically binding to- gether, and clarified the binding sites CH1, CH3 , CH452 and CT1430 in CBP and N-finger, C-finger and N-C-finger in GATA-2. Luciferase assay results in our experiment indicated that CBP could increase GATA-2 transcriptional activity in the dose-dependent manner. GATA-1 is mainly expressed in differen- tiated hematopoietic cells, but still has overlap expression with GATA-2. CBP is a coactivator of GATA-2 and GATA-1. The investigation on the mechanism that could decide whether CBP binds to GATA-2 to keep hematopoietic cells in the progenitor status or to GATA-1 to start differentiation will be a very in- teresting and very meaningful project in the near future.

Creep and creep-fatigue behavior of high chromium steel weldment

Strength of welded joints of high chromium steels is one of the important concerns for fabricators and operators of ultra supercritical thermal power plants. A number of creep as well as creep-fatigue tests with tensile hold have been carried out on the welded joints of two types of high chromium steels widely used in Japan, i.e. Grade 91 and 122 steels. It was found that failure occurred in fine grain heat-affected zone in all the creep-fatigue tests, even at a relatively low temperature and fairly short time where failure occurred in plain base metal region in simple creep testing. Four procedures were used to predict failure lives and their results were compared with the test results. A newly proposed energy-based approach gave the best estimation of failure life, without respect of the material and temperature.

Theoretical Study on Direction of Vibrational Transition Dipole Moment of XH Stretching Vibration in HXD

Experimental vibrational spectra of heavy light XH stretching vibrations of simple molecules have been analyzed using the local mode model.In addition,the bond dipole approach,which assumes that the transition dipole moment(TDM)of the XH stretching mode is aligned along the XH bond,has helped analyze experimental spectra.We performed theoretical calculations of the XH stretching vibrations of HOD,HND^−,HCD,HSD,HPD^−,and HSiD using local mode model and multi-dimensional normal modes.We found that consistent with previous notions,a localized 1D picture to treat the XH stretching vibration is valid even for analyzing the TDM tilt angle.In addition,while the TDM of the OH stretching fundamental transition tilted away from the OH bond in the direction away from the OD bond,that for the XH stretching fundamental of HSD,HND^−,HPD^−,HCD,and HSiD tilted away from the OH bond but toward the OD bond.This shows that bond dipole approximation may not be a good approximation for the present systems and that the heavy atom X can affect the transition dipole moment direction.The variation of the dipole moment was analyzed using the atoms-in-molecule method.

BackgroundTo compare the arithmetic mean (M-SIA) and the summated vector mean of surgically induced astigmatism (SVM-SIA) according to the incision site after phakic intraocular lens (Visian implantable collamer lens (ICL), STAAR Surgical) implantation.MethodsThis study comprised 121 eyes of 121 consecutive patients undergoing ICL surgery through a 3.0-mm temporal or superior clear corneal incision. The magnitude and the axis of corneal astigmatism preoperatively and 3 months postoperatively were measured using an automated keratometer. The M-SIA and the SVM-SIA were determined according to the incision site.ResultsThe magnitude of corneal astigmatism significantly increased from 1.23 ± 0.59 D preoperatively to 1.46 ± 0.72 D postoperatively in the temporal incision group (Wilcoxon signed-rank test, P < 0.001), but it significantly decreased from 1.09 ± 0.36 D preoperatively to 0.86 ± 0.41 D postoperatively in the superior incision group (P < 0.001). The M-SIA was 0.48 ± 0.30 D, and the SVM-SIA was 0.23 ± 0.52 D at a meridian of 82° in the temporal incision group. The M-SIA was 0.57 ± 0.30 D, and the SVM-SIA was 0.47 ± 0.45 D at a meridian of 1° in the superior incision group.ConclusionsICL implantation induces the M-SIA by approximately 0.5 D, but the SVM-SIA decreased to 50% and 80% of the M-SIA in magnitude through temporal and superior incisions, respectively. The direction of the SVM-SIA showed a tendency toward corneal flattening to the incisional site. It should be noted that the M-SIA is somewhat different from the SVM-SIA according to the incision site.

Early Cambrian high pressure/low temperature metamorphism in the southeastern Tarim craton in response to circum-Gondwana cold subduction

The circum-Gondwana subduction initiated by the early Cambrian has been suggested to reflect the establishment of the modern plate tectonics.The metamorphic rocks with low thermobaric(T/P)ratios indicative of cold subduction in the present tectonic regime have not been well investigated.To better understand the circum-Gondwana subduction and to test its possible link with the emergence of the modern plate tectonics,this study focused on blueschist-facies metamorphic rocks in the Altyn Tagh of the southeastern Tarim craton.Mineral assemblage and chemistry,phase equilibrium modelling,and quartz-in-garnet Raman elastic geobarometry reveal that the zoisite blueschist and glaucophane(Gln)-bearing quartz schist in northern Altyn Tagh were metamorphosed to lawsonite to epidote blueschistfacies at 520–545℃ and 16–19 kbar.It reflects high-pressure(HP)/low temperature(LT)metamorphism with low T/P ratios of<300℃/GPa and thermal gradients of<10℃/km.These blueschist-facies metamorphic rocks underwent rapid decompression starting at P-T conditions of<495℃ and<9.6 kbar during exhumation.Ar-Ar geochronology records paragonite Ar-Ar plateau ages of 520–506 Ma for the zoisite blueschist samples and phengite Ar-Ar plateau ages of 522–516 Ma for the Gln-bearing quartz schist samples,suggesting that the peak HP/LT metamorphism occurred prior to ca.522 Ma.Based on new results and available data from the major Gondwana blocks,cold subduction was suggested to profoundly operate along circum-Gondwana in the early Cambrian after the amalgamation of Gondwana.The extensive circum-Gondwana subduction represents the earliest global cold subduction in Earth’s history associated with the establishment of the modern plate tectonics,as directly recorded by the studied early Cambrian blueschist-facies metamorphic rocks and a dramatic drop in the mean T/P of metamorphism since the early Paleozoic.
