Clinico-epidemiological factors of health related quality of life among people with type 2 diabetes

AIM To investigate the quality of life(QOL) and its clinical and epidemiological correlates among people with type 2 *** This cross-sectional study was conducted in Tabriz, Northwest of Iran, including a total of 394 people with type 2 diabetes using convenient sampling method from November 2014 to March 2015. General information including demographic, socioeconomic status and lifestyle factors were collected by trained interviewers. Clinical information was retrieved from clinic's record and QOL was assessed using the 26-item WHOQOL-BRIFE questionnaire. Univariate and multivariate linear regression were performed to assess the related factors and QOL dimensions. RESULTS The mean of overall health related QOL was 52.11 ± 11.53 and the maximum and minimum dimensions wererespectively seen in psychological(60.38 ± 14.54) and social(38.32 ± 16.94) dimensions. The results of multiple linear regression showed a significant overall relationship between HRQOL and age(b =-1.48%, 95%CI:-0.03 and-2.93) level of education(b = 4.12%, 95%CI: 2.73 and 5.5), number of comorbidities(b =-2.41%, 95%CI:-3.89 and-9.41), and level of income(b = 1.98, 95%CI: 0.05 and 3.9), functional limitation(b =-3.59, 95%CI:-2.26 and-4.92) and psychological distress(b =-2.02%, 95%CI:-2.83 and-1.21). Level of education, functional limitation, psychological distress were associated with the score of physical, mental and environmental dimensions, and number of comorbidities was associated with the score of physical and mental dimensions. CONCLUSION Based on our findings, lifestyle modification and increasing facilities of clinics providing service can be effective steps to improve the QOL among people with type 2 diabetes.

Biofluidics Study in Digestive System with Thermal Conductivity of Shape Nanosize H2O＋Cu Nanoparticles

In the present article, peristaltic transport of copper nano fluid in a curved channel with complaint walls is studied. Shape effects of nanosize particles are discussed. The mathematical formulation encompasses momentum and heat conservation equations with appropriate boundary conditions for compliant wails. Sophisticated correlations are employed for thermal conductivity of the nanoparticles. The nonlinear boundary value problem is normalized with appropriate variables and closed-form solutions are derived for stream function, pressure gradient and temperature profile. A detailed study is performed for the influence of various nanoparticle geometries （bricks, cylinders and platelets）. With greater curvature value, pressure gradient is enhanced for various nanoparticle geometries. Temperature is dramatically modified with nanoparticle geometry and greater thermal conductivity is achieved with brick shaped nanoparticles in the fluid.

In this paper,six different types of silicone rubberbased composites were investigated for applications in high voltage insulation through multi-stress accelerated aging conducted for a period of 5000 h both under AC and DC *** main goal of this study was lifetime prediction of HTV-SR based composites at a typical multi-stress aging *** diagnostic techniques such as hydrophobicity assessment,leakage current measurement and FTIR were incorporated to assess the *** an outcome of this investigation,all the five hybrid samples were found as quite resistant to aging while the neat sample was comparatively,less resistant to the ***,among the studied samples,TS2 and TS4 appeared to have shown the highest resistance to aging giving a service life of 43.2 and 42 years,respectively under AC *** DC stress the order of merit of investigated samples was identical to that of AC stress but having marginally less life spans.

Finite element model updating for structural damage detection using transmissibility data

This paper presents a new finite element model updating method for estimating structural parameters and detecting structural damage location and severity based on the structural responses(output-only data).The method uses the sensitivity relation of transmissibility data through a least-squares algorithm and appropriate normalization of the extracted *** proposed transmissibility-based sensitivity equation produces a more significant number of equations than the sensitivity equations based on the frequency response function(FRF),which can estimate the structural parameters with higher *** abilities of the proposed method are assessed by using numerical data of a two-story two-bay frame model and a plate structure *** evaluating different damage cases,the number,location,and stiffness reduction of the damaged elements and the severity of the simulated damage have been accurately *** reliability and stability of the presented method against measurement and modeling errors are examined using error-contaminated *** parameter estimation results prove the method’s capabilities as an accurate model updating algorithm.

Mesoporous tablet-shaped potato starch aerogels for loading and release of the poorly water-soluble drug celecoxib

In this study,after determination of the optimal values of the effective parameters in the synthesis using experimental design software,tablet-shaped potato starch aerogels were synthesized at the optimal condition in order to be used as a drug *** celecoxib,as the model drug,was loaded into the aerogel matrix during the solvent exchange ***(Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy),FESEM and HRTEM(Transmission Electron Microscopy)analyses showed that celecoxib has been successfully loaded into aerogel ***,XRD analysis showed that most of the celecoxib has been loaded in amorphous *** vitro studies were performed in both simulated gastric and intestinal *** release kinetics showed that the loaded celecoxib dissolved faster than crystalline *** rotational speed of 100 r·min^-1,about 26%and 50%and at rotational speed of 50 r·min^-1,about 20%and 42%drug was released during the first 30 min of soaking in the simulated gastric fluid and simulated intestinal fluid,*** release of the mentioned drug was increased up to 60%and 98%at a rotational speed of 100 r·min^-1 and up to 46%and 93%at a rotational speed of 50 r·min^-1 at the end of 5 h in the simulated gastric fluid and simulated intestinal fluid,*** could be concluded that potato starch aerogels can be very useful in many drug delivery applications along with conventional micronization *** of release data showed that the release kinetics follows the Korsmeyer Peppas model,which considers phenomena of matrix erosion and drug diffusion.

Seed Mediated Growth of Gold Nanoparticles Based on Liquid Arc Discharge

We report studies on the growth of gold nanoparticles by a seed-mediated approach in solution. The synthetic method is adapted from one we published earlier （Ashkarran et al. Appl. Phys. A 2009, 96, 423）. The synthesized gold nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, dynamic light scattering （DLS）, UV-Vis spectroscopy, optical imaging and atomic force microscopy （AFM）. Optical absorption spectroscopy of the prepared samples at 15 A arc current in HAuCI4 solution shows a surface plasmon resonance around 520 nm. It is found that sodium citrate acts as a stabilizer and surface capping agent of the colloidal nanoparticles. The intensity of the plasmonic peak of the prepared gold nanoparticles for 1 minute arc duration gradually increases due to seed mediation for up to 6 hours. The formation time of gold nanoparticles at higher seed concentrations is less than that at lower seed concentrations.

A Numerical Algorithm for Determination of a Control Parameter in Two-dimensional Parabolic Inverse Problems

Numerical solution of the parabolic partial differential equations with an unknown parameter play a very important role in engineering applications. In this study we present a high order scheme for determining unknown control parameter and unknown solution of two-dimensional parabolic inverse problem with overspe- cialization at a point in the spatial domain. In this approach, a compact fourth-order scheme is used to discretize spatial derivatives of equation and reduces the problem to a system of ordinary differential equations （ODEs）. Then we apply a fourth order boundary value method to the solution of resulting system of ODEs. So the proposed method has fourth order of accuracy in both space and time components and is unconditionally stable due to the favorable stability property of boundary value methods. The results of numerical experiments are presented and some comparisons are made with several well-known finite difference schemes in the literature. Also we will investigate the effect of noise in data on the approximate solutions.

Thermodynamic Interpretation of Field Equations at Horizon of BTZ Black Hole

A spacetime horizon comprising with a black hole singularity acts like a boundary of a thermal system associated with the notions of temperature and entropy. In the case of static metric of Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli （BTZ） black hole, the field equations near the horizon boundary can be expressed as a thermal identity dE = TdS＋ Pr dA, where E = M is the mass of BTZ black hole, dA is the change in the area of the black hole horizon when the horizon is displaced infinitesimally small, Pr is the radial pressure provided by the source of Einstein equations, S = 41πa is the entropy and T =κ/2π is the Hawking temperature associated with the horizon. This approach is studied further to generalize it for non-static BTZ black hole, showing that it is also possible to interpret the field equation near horizon as a thermodynamic identity dE = TdS ＋ PrdA ＋Ω＋dJ, where Ω＋ is the angular velocity and J is the angular momentum of BTZ black hole. These results indicate that the field equations for BTZ black hole possess intrinsic thermodynamic properties near the horizon.

Viscous Cosmology and Thermodynamics of Apparent Horizon

It is shown that the differential form of Friedmann equations of Friedman-Robertson-Walker （FRW） universe can be recast as a similar form of the first law ThdSh = dE＋ WdV of thermodynamics at the apparent horizon of FRW universe filled with the viscous fluid. It is also shown that by employing the general expression of temperature Th=｜k｜/2π=1/2π~rA（1-2~rA/2H^rA）associated with the apparent horizon of an FRW universe and assumed that the temperature Tm of the energy inside the apparent horizon is proportional to the horizon temperature Tm=bTh, we are able to show that the generalized second law of thermodynamics holds in the Einstein gravity provided Th-Tm/~rA≤（ρ＋~P）.
