In this study,the mechanical properties of the composite plate were considered Gaussian random fields and their effects on the buckling load and corresponding mode shapes were studied by developing a semi-analytical nonintrusive *** random fields were decomposed by the Karhunen−Loève *** strains were defined based on the assumptions of the first-order and higher-order shear-deformation *** equations of motion were extracted using Euler-Lagrange *** probabilistic response space was obtained by employing the nonintrusive polynomial chaos ***,the effect of spatially varying stochastic properties on the critical load of the plate and the irregularity of buckling mode shapes and their sequences were studied for the first *** findings showed that different shear deformation plate theories could significantly influence the reliability of thicker plates under compressive *** is suggested that a linear relationship exists between the mechanical properties’variation coefficient and critical loads’variation ***,in modeling the plate properties as random fields,a significant stochastic irregularity is obtained in buckling mode shapes,which is crucial in practical applications.

This paper proposes a new thermoviscoelastic finite deformation model incorporating dual relaxation mechanisms to predict the complete thermo-mechanical response of amorphous shape memory *** model is underpinned by the detailed microscopic molecular mechanism and effectively reflects the current understanding of the glass transition *** evolution rules are obtained from the model to characterize the viscous flow,and a new theory named an internal stress model is introduced and combined with the dual relaxation mechanisms to capture the stress *** rationality of the constitutive model is verified as the theoretical results agree well with the experimental ***,the constitutive model is further simplified to facilitate engineering applications,and it can roughly capture the characteristics of shape memory polymers.

This article explores the socio-spatial interactions of a micro-community in a cluster-house concept *** apartment has been designed for retreat and coliving by mehr als wohnen housing cooperative in Zurich,*** methodology of investigation is a qualitative case study,through which housing narratives of three residents as representatives of this communal household are *** addition,on-site visits and observations,document analyses,and desktop studies are *** originality of the research is in its approach of examining a micro-society through the residential community’s authentic stories,which are in the context of normal times and the COVID-19 *** findings reveal that the social bonds of the studied cluster cohousing community are significantly maintained through the intermediate zones of the cluster-house *** socio-spatial interaction has activated the potentials of social innovation and housing resilience in an urban *** research also highlights points of conflicts and insights for future cluster-concept apartment developments.

An explicit model management framework is introduced for predictive Groundwater Levels(GWL),particularly suitable to Observation Wells(OWs)with sparse and possibly heterogeneous *** framework implements Multiple Models(MM)under the architecture of organising them at levels,as follows:(i)Level 0:treat heterogeneity in the data,***-Organised Mapping(SOM)to classify the OWs;and decide on model structure,*** a grey box model to predict GWLs.(ii)Level 1:construct MMs,*** Fuzzy Logic(FL)and one Neurofuzzy(NF)models.(iii)Level 2:formulate strategies to combine the MM at Level 1,for which the paper uses Artificial Neural Networks(Strategy 1)and simple averaging(Strategy 2).Whilst the above model management strategy is novel,a critical view is presented,according to which modelling practices are:Inclusive Multiple Modelling(IMM)practices contrasted with existing practices,branded by the paper as Exclusionary Multiple Modelling(EMM).Scientific thinking over IMMs is captured as a framework with four dimensions:Model Reuse(MR),Hierarchical Recursion(HR),Elastic Learning Environment(ELE)and Goal Orientation(GO)and these together make the acronym of ***,IMM-RHEO is piloted in the aquifer of Tabriz Plain with sparse and possibly heterogeneous *** results provide some evidence that(i)IMM at two levels improves on the accuracy of individual models;and(ii)model combinations in IMM practices bring‘model-learning’into fashion for learning with the goal to explain baseline conditions and impacts of subsequent management changes.

“Arithmetic Calculus” (AC), introduced recently by the author, is explored further in this paper by giving a new lease of life to the age-old differences table by transforming it into a new kind of network. Any sequence that can be laid out in this network can be classified into one of five types of sequences, which can be expressed by algebraic polynomial or exponential functions but AC can reveal information concealed by algebra. The paper defines these sequences and refers to each family member as the parent sequence. These sequences make up their own universe as: (i) the population of the terms in each parent sequence is infinite;(ii) each parent sequence forms a hierarchy, in which their number of levels can extend into infinity;and (ii) there are infinitely diverse parent sequences. A glimpse of AC is illustrated through examples but their analytical capability is applicable in their universe. The paper shows that small sets of building blocks are operated by the convolution theorem or its variations, which is embedded “all-pervasively” in each and every member of the universe. Sufficient details are presented to ensure the emergence of the mosaic image of AC through problems including: (i) differentiation (reducement), (ii) integration (conducement), (iii) diagonal operations (reminiscent of gradient methods), and (iv) structure of hierarchies. These operations reveal that the new network can parallel Cartesian coordinates and that for problems with no noise, the deconvolution problem is well-posed against common myth of it being ill-posed.

New operators are presented to introduce “arithmetic calculus”, where 1) the operators are just obvious mathematical facts, and 2) arithmetic calculus refers to summing and subtracting operations without solving equations. The sole aim of this paper is to make a case for arithmetic calculus, which is lurking in conventional mathematics and science but has no identity of its own. The underlying thinking is: 1) to shift the focus from the whole sequence to any of its single elements;and 2) to factorise each element to building blocks and rules. One outcome of this emerging calculus is to understand the interconnectivity in a family of sequences, without which they are seen as discrete entities with no interconnectivity. Arithmetic calculus is a step closer towards deriving a “Tree of Numbers” reminiscent of the Tree of Life. Another windfall outcome is to show that the deconvolution problem is explicitly well-posed but at the same time implicitly ill-conditioned;and this challenges a misconception that this problem is ill-posed. If the thinking in this paper is not new, this paper forges it through a mathematical spin by presenting new terms, definitions, notations and operators. The return for these out of the blue new aspects is far reaching.

This exploratory study is attempting to examine how employable individuals turn their focus to start-ups. Today, majority of employees still practice a more or less self-protective strategy. In this paper the authors have reported the results of an empirical study of factors motivating degreed potential employees to move to self-enterprising. The deciding factors to become an entrepreneur and of sustainable employment-oriented factors are analyzed in order to discover how they differ. Participants consisted of 200 students from Malaysia entered final year of business undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Self-administered questionnaires were used to gather data on factors and types of relationships influencing career choice and entrepreneurial intention. The results will serve as a basis for improvement of employment practices and promising entrepreneurial curriculum in universities to support start-ups in creating sustainable businesses.

AIMTo assess lens thickness measurements with anterior segment-optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) in comparison with A-scan ultrasonography (A-scan US).METHODSThere were 218 adult subjects (218 eyes) aged 59.2±9.2y enrolled in this prospective cross-sectional study. Forty-three eyes had open angles and 175 eyes had narrow angles. Routine ophthalmic exam was performed and nuclear opacity was graded using the Lens Opacities Classification System III (LOCS III). Lens thickness was measured by AS-OCT (Visante OCT, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Dublin, CA, USA). The highest quality image was selected for each eye and lens thickness was calculated using ImageJ software. Lens thickness was also measured by A-scan *** correlations showed a value of 99.7% for intra-visit measurements and 95.3% for inter-visit measurements. The mean lens thickness measured by AS-OCT was not significantly different from that of A-scan US (4.861±0.404 vs 4.866±0.351 mm, P=0.74). Lens thickness values obtained from the two instruments were highly correlated overall (Pearson correlation coefficient=0.81, P<0.001), and in all LOCS III specific subgroups except in grade 5 of nuclear opacity. Bland-Altman analysis revealed a 95% limit of agreement from -0.45 to 0.46 mm. Lens thickness difference between the two instruments became smaller as the lens thickness increased and AS-OCT yielded smaller values than A-scan US in thicker lens (β=-0.29, P<0.001)CONCLUSIONAS-OCT-derived lens thickness measurement is valid and comparable to the results obtained by A-scan US. It can be used as a reliable noncontact method for measuring lens thickness in adults with or without significant cataract.

Despite various treatment protocols and newly recognized therapeutics,there are no effective treatment approaches against coronavirus *** therapeutic strategies including the use of stem cells-derived secretome as a cell-free therapy have been recommended for patients with critical *** pro-regenerative,pro-angiogenic,anti-inflammatory,anti-apoptotic,immunomodulatory,and trophic properties of stem cells-derived secretome,extracellular vesicles(EVs),and bioactive factors have made them suitable candidates for respiratory tract regeneration in coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** including microvesicles and exosomes can be applied for communication at the intercellular level due to their abilities in the long-distance transfer of biological messages such as mRNAs,growth factors,transcription factors,microRNAs,and cytokines,and therefore,simulate the specifications of the parent cell,influencing target cells upon internalization and/or *** exhibit both anti-inflammatory and tolerogenic immune responses by regulation of proliferation,polarization,activation,and migration of different immune *** to effective immunomodulatory and high safety including a minimum risk of immunogenicity and tumorigenicity,mesenchymal stem cell(MSC)-EVs are more preferable to MSC-based ***,as an endogenous repair and inflammation-reducing agent,MSCEVs could be used against COVID-19 induced morbidity and mortality after further mechanistic and preclinical/clinical *** review is focused on the therapeutic perspective of the secretome of stem cells in alleviating the cytokine storm and organ injury in COVID-19 patients.
