Geochemical studies of hybrid granite from Madugulapalli area, Eastern Dharwar Craton, southern India: Implications for crustal mixing

Magma produced by melting of continental crust and mantle at the Archean-Proterozoic boundary are compositionally variable and chemical compositions provide evidence for the mixing of two sources. Understanding the composition of hybrid magma is essential for determining the comparative infl uence of crust and mantle sources during orogenesis. The hybrid granites are less documented in Indian cratons, especially less in Dharwar Craton. Here we present petrographic and whole-rock geochemical data of Madgulapalli granitic rocks situated in the NE part of the Eastern Dharwar Craton(EDC), to elucidate their petrogenesis and role in crust formation. The Madugulapalli granites(MPG) are composed chiefl y of plagioclase, quartz, and alkali feldspar with associated biotite showing alteration and inter-granular textures. Geochemically, they are metaluminous to peraluminous in nature with calc-alkaline hybrid granite. The hybrid granites exhibit both negative and positive europium anomalies;the lower Rb/sr, Rb, sr, and higher sr/Y,(Dy/Yb)N ratios suggest that the interaction of older rocks with residual garnet source melted at high pressures. We hypothesize that hybrid granites are formed by interaction(e.g., metasomatism, mingling, or mixing) between parental magmas and pre-existing rocks with the infl uence of sanukitoid melts(heat source) in a subduction environment. The genesis of the hybrid granites demonstrates the mixing coupled with diff erentiation in the petrogeny’s residue system in a syn-collision setting followed by continental crust stability in EDC during the Neoarchean period.

Change in quality of life after transcatheter aortic valve implantation and aortic valve replacement surgery in Australian patients aged ≥ 75 years： the effects of EurosCORE and patient operability

Objective To determine the extent to which differences in generic quality of life （QOL） between transcatheter aortic valve implanta- tion （TAVI） and surgical aortic valve replacement （AVR） patients explained by EurosCORE and heart-team operability assessment. Methods A total of 146 high-risk patients with EurosCORE 〉 6 and aged 〉 75 years underwent TAVI （n = 80） or aortic valve replacement （n = 66） between February 2010 and July 2013. A total of 75 patients also completed preoperative and six month sF-12 QOL measures. Analyses examined incident major morbidity, compared six month QOL between groups adjusted for EUrosCORE and operability, and quantified rates of clinically significant QOL improvement and deterioration. Results The AVR group required longer ventilation （〉 24 h）（TAVI 5.0% vs. AVR 20.6%, P = 0.004） and more units of red blood cells [TAVI 0 （0-1） vs. AVR 2 （0-3）, P = 0.01]. New renal failure was higher in TAVI （TAVI 5.0% vs. AVR 0%, P = 0.06）. TAVI patients reported significantly lower vitality （P = 0.01） by comparison to AVR patients, however these findings were no longer significant after adjustment for operability. In both procedures, clinically significant QOL improvement was common [range 25.0% （general health） - 62.9% （physical role）] whereas deterioration in QOL occurred less frequently [range 9.3% （physical role） - 33.3% （mental health）]. Conclusions Clinically significant improvement and deterioration in QOL was evident at six months in high risk elderly aortic valve replacement patients. Overall QOL did not differ between TAVI and AVR once operability was taken into consideration.

simultaneous quantification of prodrug oseltamivir and its metabolite oseltamivir carboxylate in human plasma by LC-Ms/Ms to support a bioequivalence study

A simple, precise and rapid liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry （LC-Ms/Ms） method has been developed and validated for the simultaneous determination of oseltamivir and oseltamivir carboxylate, a neuraminidase inhibitor, using their deuterated analogs as internal standards （Iss）. The method involved solid phase extraction of the analytes and Iss from 200 μL human plasma with no reconstitution and drying steps. The chromatographic separation was achieved on a symmetry C18 （100 mm × 4.6 mm, 5 μm） column using 10 mM ammonium formate and acetonitrile （30：70, v/v） as the mobile phase in a run time of 2.0 min. Quantitation of analytes and Iss were done by multiple reaction monitoring on a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer in the positive ionization mode. The linearity of the method was established in the concentration range of 0.5-200 ng/mL and 2.0-800 ng/mL for oseltamivir and oseltamivir carboxylate respectively. The mean extraction recovery for oseltamivir （94.4%） and oseltamivir carboxylate （92.7%） from spiked plasma samples was consistent and reproducible. The application of this method was demonstratedby a bioequivalence study in 42 healthy Indian subjects with 75 mg oseltamivir phosphate capsules. The assay reproducibility was established by reanalysis of 151 incurred subject samples.

HIV prevalence in suspects attending sir sunder Lal Hospital

Objective:To assess the sero-positivity rate of HIV infection among clinically suspected subjects of reproductive age group(15-49 years),biological and behavioral characteristics of the subjects gender specific variation of sero-positivity rale,and the differentials of the sero-positivity rate for the history of blood transfusion or blood products or other organs,history of needle exposure and symptoms of ***:study is based on the retrospective data of the calendar year 2005 obtained from Voluntary Counseling and Testing Centre(VCTC)(now renamed as ICTC),Department of Microbiology,I.M.s.,B.H.U..*** cases were either referred by the consultants of different OPD's of sir sunderlal Hospital or came voluntarily for knowing their HIV *** 2-3 mL of blood samples were collected in a plain vial and tested for HIV status by strategy Ⅱ/Ⅲ as per WHO/NACO ***:Overall sero-positivity of HIV was 15.3%(18.1%in males and 12.2%in females) which increased 6-7 folds in the age group 35-49 years as compared to 15-24 years in both the ***-positivity rate in male migrants was 43.1%,while in female migrants it was 18.7%.The history of multiple sexual contacts was about 3 times higher in males as compared to females;predominantly it was very high in male migrants(67.7%) as compared to male non-migrants(15.8%).History of multiple sexual contacts was not uncommon in females and it was 25.0%in female migrants and 9.7%in non-migrant *** sero-positivity rate with the history of multiple sexual contacts was 45.4%in males and 60.3%in females,while without history of multiple sexual contacts these were only 2.8%and 5.3%***-positive cases had on an average 3.6±1.7 various morbidity symptoms as compared to 0.7±1.1 in *** is to be noted that sero-positivity rate was more in those females who seemed apparently healthy compared to those presenting with some of the symptoms;vice versa,in males presenting with som

surfactants for enhanced oil recovery are important to study due to their special characteristics like foam generation,lowering interfacial tension between oleic and aqueous phases,and wettability alteration of reservoir rock *** is a good mobility control agent in enhanced oil recovery for improving the mobility *** the present work,the foaming behavior of three nonionic ethoxylated surfactants,namely Tergitol 15-s-7,Tergitol 15-s-9,and Tergitol 15-s-12,was studied *** the surfactants,Tergitol 15-s-12 shows the highest *** effect of Na Cl concentration and synthetic seawater on foaming behavior of the surfactants was investigated by the test-tube shaking *** critical micelle concentrations of aqueous solutions of the different nonionic surfactants were measured at 300 *** was found that the critical micelle concentrations of all surfactants also increased with increasing ethylene oxide *** light scattering experiments were performed to investigate the micelle sizes of the surfactants at their respective critical micelle *** flooding experiments were carried out in sand packs using the surfactant *** was found tha t22% additional oil was recovered in the case of all the surfactants over secondary water *** 15-s-12exhibited the maximum additional oil recovery which is more than 26%after water injection.

Rotational asymmetry of reactant concentration and its evolution in a circulating fluidized bed riser

Rotational asymmetric distribution of reactant （ozone） concentration and its evolution along with the gas-solid reactive flow were studied in a 76 mm i.d., 10.2 m high circulating fluidized bed （CFB） riser reactor. The superficial gas velocity ranged from 3 to 5 m/s and the solids circulation rates were 50 and 100 kg/（m2 s）. Experimental results show that the asymmetry of reactant distribution can extend to a height close to the length of flow developing zone of the CFB riser reactor and then disappears. Based on the hydrodynamics of the gas and solid phases in the solids entrance region, this asymmetry can be attributed to the effect of the solids entrance structure.

Design and development of a high-performance Ni-based superalloy WsU 150 for additive manufacturing

This research proposes a design and development strategy of a new nickel-based superalloy for additive manufacturing.A new Ni-based superalloy has been developed by the application of the combinatorial alloy development technique coupled with CALPHAD based solidification modeling by effectively suppressing the precipitation *** suppression of precipitation during processing paved a way for prevention of cracks during *** new alloy "WsU 150" revealed excellent room temperature mechanical properties with a yield strength of 867 MPa,an ultimate tensile strength of 1188 MPa,and an elongation of 27.9% in the as-deposited *** mechanical properties of the heat-treated alloy were improved significantly to 1114 MPa yield strength,1396 MPa ultimate tensile strength,and an elongation of 16.1%.Improvement in the mechanical properties is attributed to the additional precipitation and coarsening of γ’ and carbides during *** investigation of the alloy revealed spherical γ’ with a rippled size distribution from the center to the interdendritic *** average size of the γ’ particles in the as-deposited condition was found to be around 48 nm in the interdendritic ***-treatment promoted the coarsening of γ’ which is explained in the paper.

ZrCosb based half-Heusler(HH)alloys have been widely studied as a p-type thermoelectric(TE)material for power generation applications in the mid-temperature ***,their intrinsically high thermal conductivity has been found to be detrimental for the improvement in their thermoelectric figure-of-merit(ZT),which presently is far below *** the current work,a state-of-the-art ZT~1.1 at 873 K was realized in an optimized composition of nanostructured Zr1-xHfxCosb_(0.9)sn_(0.1) HH alloys by employing compositional modulation ***-by-grain compositional variations,which leads to a substantial increase in its power factor coupled with a concurrent decrease in its thermal *** reduction in the phonon mean-free-path is observed on Hf substitution,which is comparable to the average crystallite size(~25 nm),thus leading to a very low thermal conductivity of~2.2Wm^(-1)K^(-1) at 873 K,which is amongst the lowest reported in HH *** TE device characteristics,estimated using cumulative temperature dependence model for quantitative evaluation of TE performance,yielded an output power density of~10 Wcm2 with a leg efficiency of~10%in the optimized composition of nanostructured Zr_(1-x)Hf_(x)Cosb_(0.9)sn_(0.1) HH alloys,which is comparable to the reported efficiencies of other state-of-the-art TE materials.
