Detection of colorectal adenomas using artificial intelligence models in patients with chronic hepatitis C

BACKGROUND Hepatitis C virus is known for its oncogenic potential,especially in hepatocellular carcinoma and non-Hodgkin *** studies have shown that chronic hepatitis C(CHC)has an increased risk of the development of colorectal cancer(CRC).AIM To analyze this positive relationship and develop an artificial intelligence(AI)-based tool using machine learning(ML)algorithms to stratify these patient populations into risk groups for CRC/adenoma *** To develop the AI automated calculator,we applied ML to train models to predict the probability and the number of adenomas detected on *** sets were split into 70:30 ratios for training and internal *** Scikit-learn standard scaler was used to scale values of continuous *** findings were used as the gold standard and deep learning architecture was used to train six ML models for prediction.A Flask(customizable Python framework)application programming interface(API)was used to deploy the trained ML model with the highest accuracy as a web ***,Heroku was used for the deployment of the web-based API to https://*** Of 415 patients,206 had colonoscopy *** internal validation,the Bernoulli naive Bayes model predicted the probability of adenoma detection with the highest accuracy of 56%,precision of 55%,recall of 55%,and F1 measure of 54%.Support vector regressor predicted the number of adenomas with the least mean absolute error of *** Our AI-based tool can help providers stratify patients with CHC for early referral for screening *** with providing a numerical percentage,the calculator can also comment on the number of adenomatous polyps a gastroenterologist can expect,prompting a higher adenoma detection rate.

Modified Dual Segment Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna Terminated in a Bio-Medium

In this paper, the simulation studies of the radiation characteristics of modified dual segment rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DSRDRA) in free space and in presence of bio-medium alongwith the absorbed power distribution in a homogenous bio-medium (muscle layer) in direct contact with the proposed antenna are reported at different WiMAX band frequencies. The specific absorption rate (SAR) distributions in muscle layer for different antenna-to-muscle layer spacings are also presented at resonant frequency of antenna in WiMAX bands. The results of return loss, input VSWR and radiation characteristics of proposed antenna in bio-medium are also compared with results in free space. The simulation study has been carried out using CST Microwave Studio software.

In this work,a system for recognition of newspaper printed in Gurumukhi script is *** feature extraction techniques,namely,zoning features,diagonal features,parabola curve fitting based features,and power curve fitting based features are considered for extracting the statistical properties of the characters printed in the *** combinations of these features are also applied to improve the recognition *** recognition,four classification techniques,namely,k-NN,linear-SVM,decision tree,and random forest are used.A database for the experiments is collected from three major Gurumukhi script newspapers which are Ajit,Jagbani and Punjabi *** 5-fold cross validation and random forest classifier,a recognition accuracy of 96.19%with a combination of zoning features,diagonal features and parabola curve fitting based features has been reported.A recognition accuracy of 95.21%with a partitioning strategy of data set(70%data as training data and remaining 30%data as testing data)has been achieved.

Coronal shear fractures of distal humerus: Diagnostic and treatment protocols

Coronal shear fractures of distal humerus involving the capitellum and the trochlea are rare injuries with articular complexity, and are technically challenging for management. With better understanding of the anatomy and imaging advancements, the complex nature of these fractures is well appreciated now. These fractures involve metaphysealcomminution of lateral column and associated intraarticular injuries are common. Previously, closed reduction and excision were the accepted treatment but now preference is for open reduction and internal fixation with an aim to provide stable and congruent joint with early range of motion of joint. Various approaches including extensile lateral, anterolateral and posterior approaches have been described depending on the fracture pattern and complexity. Good to excellent outcome have been reported with internal fixations and poor results are noted in articular comminution with associated articular injuries. Various implants including headleass compression screws, minifragment screws, bioabsorbable implants and column plating are advocated for reconstruction of these complex fractures. Inspite of articular fragments being free of soft tissue attachments the rate of osteonecrosis and osteoarthritis is reported very less after internal fixation. This article summarizes the diagnostic and treatment strategies for these rare fractures and recommendations for management.

A Combination of Antigen Retrieval Methods Significantly Enhances the Unmasking of Tedious Antigens of Lymphangiogenesis and Angiogenesis in Canine Mammary Tumour

The use of immunohistochemical techniques has enhanced the diagnostic intensities in pathology. The sensitivity and specificity of any immunohistochemical protocol mainly depends on the ability to unmask antigen from formalin fixed tissue. Various combinations of antigen retrieval protocols have been used to unmask antigen efficiently but none has been established as a flawless one. These protocols either have one or the other lacunae, lacking repeatability under same conditions. In our study, we tried to develop a standardized immunohistochemical protocol for the identification of blood and lymphatic vessels in tissue sections of canine mammary tumour (CMT) using recently identified markers. The combined effects of antigen retrieval (AR) methods including pH shock by Heat-induced epitope retrieval (HIER) and Protease-induced epitope retrieval (PIER) were found highly effective in retrieval of tedious antigens of lymphangiogenesis and angiogenesis. The use of combined antigen retrieval technique for the unmasking of antigens from over fixed, old formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) canine mammary tumour sections resulted in efficient unmasking of epitopes when compared with the individual antigen retrieval methods.

Dosimetric Comparison of Fixed and Flexible Geometry ICRT Applicators in Patients Treated for Carcinoma Cervix

In intracavitary radiotherapy (ICRT) for cancer cervix, applicator geometry has the potential to impact the doses to organs at risk (OARs) and the coverage of the target volume. At our centre two Varian made Fletcher-style applicator sets, namely defined (fixed) geometry and flexible geometry, are used for ICRT. In the present work, the two types of applicators were compared dosimetrically as per the recommendations of the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements (ICRU-38) while delivering high dose rate brachytherapy. Twenty four patients who underwent ICRT were considered for this study. Radiographic method was used for treatment planning on Abacus planning system. ICRU-38 recommended parameters were estimated and compared. Flexible geometry applicator showed 8.8% and 16% higher bladder and rectum point doses as compared to the fixed geometry one but the difference was statistically not significant. The thickness of the pear-shaped isodose volume was larger for the flexible geometry implant also indicating towards higher doses to OARs. The higher bladder and rectum point doses in the case of flexible applicator will need to be validated by a larger data set.

Dielectric Relaxation in Complex Perovskite Oxide Sr(Gd0.5Nb0.5)O3

The complex perovskite oxide a strontium gadolinium niobate (SGN) synthesized by solid-state reaction technique has single phase with tetragonal structure. X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to study the structural and microstructural properties of the ceramics, respectively. The XRD patterns of SGN at room temperature show a tetragonal structure. Studies of the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of compound as a function of frequency (50 Hz to 1 MHz) at room temperature, and as a function of temperature (60°C to 420°C) indicate polydispersive nature of the material. The logarithmic angular frequency dependence of the loss peak is found to obey the Arrhenius law with activation energy ~0.18 eV. The small value of activation energy of the compound (~0.18 eV) can be explained by mixed ionic-polaronic conductivity mechanism. The grain size of the pellet sample was found to be 1.92 μm. The frequency-dependant electrical data are analyzed in the framework of conductivity and electric modulus formalisms. The complex plane impedance plot shows the grain boundary contribution for higher value of dielectric constant in the law frequency region.

Structural and Electrical Characteristics of Ba(Fe0.5Nb0.5)O3-SrTiO3Ceramic System

A complex structure of barium iron niobate, Ba(Fe0.5Nb0.5)O3 (BFN) and strontium titanate SrTiO3 (ST) was fabricated by a solid-state reaction method. The phase formation of Ba(Fe0.5Nb0.5)O3-SrTiO3 was checked using X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. The X-ray structural analysis of BFN and BFN-ST ceramics, showed the formation of single-phase compound in the monoclinic system, which is a distorted structure of an ideal cubic perovskite. Careful examination of microstructures of the individual compounds of the system was done by the scanning electron micrograph (SEM), and confirms the polycrystalline nature of the systems. Detailed studies of dielectric and electrical impedance properties of the systems in a wide range of frequency (100Hz - 5MHz) and different temperatures (30°C-285°C) showed that these properties are strongly dependent on temperature and frequency.

In this paper measurement of real part of permittivity and loss tangent of (1-x) ***3 (ZMT) material in powder form in S-band of microwave frequencies is presented and the associated accuracy estimated. This approach is based on the measurement of transmitted power from the cavity at and off resonance. Details of the design and fabrication of the rectangular cavity and the input and output coupling are given. The variation of dielectric properties of (1-x) ***3 (ZMT) with x-value and calcination temperature (for x = 0.1) is presented. The effect of doping of V2O5 is also studied. The results of present work may provide useful design guidelines for development of microwave compo-nents including dielectric resonator antennas.

Comparative H2S Sensing Characteristics of Fe2O3: Thin Film vs. Bulk

Comparative investigations of gas sensing characteristics of Fe2O3 in both thin film as well as bulk forms have been performed. Thin film sensors were realized by first depositing Fe films using electron-beam evaporation followed by thermal oxidation. Bulk sensors in the form of pellets were prepared by cold pressing commercial Fe2O3 powder with subsequent sintering. Both thin film and bulk Fe2O3 sensors exhibited a selective and reversible response characteristics towards H2S with maximum response at an operating temperature of 250°C and 200°C, respectively. A negligible response towards other interfering gases was observed. Thin film sensors exhibited an enhanced response in comparison to that of pellets.
