We present the first experimental observation of Anderson localization in the terahertz frequency range using plasmonic *** accomplish this goal,we designed THz waveguides consisting of a one-dimensional array of rectangular apertures that were fabricated in a freestanding metal *** is introduced into the waveguide by offsetting the position of each aperture by a random distance within a prescribed *** example,for a waveguide with apertures spaced by 250μm in a periodic waveguide,10%disorder would correspond to the apertures being shifted by a random value between±25μm along the waveguide *** find that for disorder levels below 25%,there is only an increase in the propagation loss along the ***,for two specific waveguides with 25%disorder,we observe a spatially localized mode that lies just within the stop band of the device and exhibits a double-sided exponential spatial decay away from the maximum.

This study uses the data from the National Family Health Survey round-2. Using hierarchical linear models the role of community level variables in predicting neonatal deaths at individual level is analyzed. SAS sub-routine PROC GLIMMIX is used for hierarchical linear modeling. Findings re-enforce the importance of mother’s literacy and tetanus toxid vaccination during pregnancy in predicting neonatal deaths at individual level. At community level, though the magnitude of the presence of either a private doctor, or a visiting doctor, or a village guide, or a traditional health attendant, or the presence of mobile health van unit within community is in an expected direction, the effect is statistically not significant. In order to capture true impact of community level intervention of program success it is imperative that the large demographic surveys should incorporate more and more community level indicators while designing these surveys.

The plant Aloe vera is used in Ayurvedic, Homoeopathic and Allopathic streams of medicine, and not only tribal community but also most of the people for food and medicine. The plant leaves contains numerous vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, natural sugars and other bioactive compounds with emollient, purgative, anti-microbial, anti inflammatory, antioxidant, aphrodisiac, anti-helmenthic, antifungal, antiseptic and cosmetic values for health care. This plant has potential to cure sunburns, burns and minor cuts, and even skin cancer. The external use in cosmetic primarily acts as skin healer and prevents injury of epithelial tissues, cures acne and gives a youthful glow to skin, also acts as extremely powerful laxative.

Appendicular tuberculosis presenting as enterocutaneous fistula over thigh—A rare case report with review of literature

Abdominal tuberculosis is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in children in developing countries. Primary involvement of appendix is very rare. Presentation is usually non specific and diagnosis is made in most cases on histopathlogical examination following appendicectomy. This to our knowledge is the first case of appendicular tuberculosis presenting primarily as spontaneous enterocutaneous fistula over front of right thigh. Barium meal follow-through was diagnostic. Appendicectomy was performed followed by anti-tubercular treatment which was curative.

Foreign bodies [FB] in the bronchus are important causes of morbidity and mortality in paediatric age group and pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Inert and smooth foreign bodies are prone for migration from one side to other due to minimal inflammatory process and easy mobility. Herein we are reporting a case of electric bulb aspiration which migrated from right main bronchus to left main bronchus.

Available reports suggest that, Leishmania donovani antigen kMP-11 may be significant in the modulation of immune responses in visceral leishmaniasis (VL). This study evaluated vaccine prospect of presentation of kMP-11 antigen through murine dendritic cells against VL in infected BALB/c mice. We report here that immunization with kMP-11 delivered through bone marrow derived dendritic cells can lead to killing of L. donovani in infected BALB/c mice. Furthermore, the strategy to use kMP-11 as vaccine delivered through DCs can stimulate the production of IFN-g, IL-12, IL-2R and TNF-α with concomitant down-regulation of IL-10 and IL-4. Furthermore, anti-leishmanial defence function (ROS) of splenocytes was observed increased in the presence of DC-delivered kMP-11 vaccination accompanied with an increased p38-MAPk signalling in vaccinated splenocytes. We summarized from our data that kMP-11 delivered through DCs has potential for eliciting protective immunity through pro-inflammatory cytokines (IFN-γ, IL-12, IL-2, TNF-α) following an up-regulation in signalling event of p38-MAPk. Therefore the study suggests a new control strategy against VL in future.

Atypical Olfactory Neuroblastoma Presenting as Sinonasal Polyposis with Nasopharyngeal Extension: A Case Report

Background: Olfactory neuroblastoma also known as Esthesioneuroblastoma (ENB) is a tumor arising from the basal layer of olfactory epithelium in the superior recess of the nasal cavity in the region of cribriform plate. Incidence peaks once in 11 - 20 years of age and again in 50 - 60 years of age. It is equally found in men and women. Aim: The main aim of this case report is to characterize the clinical features of ENB showing nasopharyngeal involvement and its importance in the differential diagnosis of sinonasal neuroendocrine malignancies. Case presentation: Two cases are reported. The first case was a 21-year-old male with symptoms of nasal obstruction, recurrent epistaxis, nasal discharge, headache and paresthesia over the face with an evolution of 1 year with no previous history of trauma. Diagnostic nasal endoscopy revealed reddish gray mass filling bilateral nasal cavities. Posterior rhinoscopy revealed mass coming through choanae and filling the nasopharynx. Endoscopic resection of tumor was done and postoperatively all the symptoms of the patient resolved. The second case was a 62-year-old male with complaints of nasal obstruction, nasal discharge, recurrent epistaxis, anosmia and difficulty in swallowing. On computed tomography, anteriorly, the mass was extending up to external nares and posteriorly up to the nasopharynx, superiorly up to nasal roof and inferiorly up to hard palate. No obvious erosion of floor of anterior cranial fossa was seen. No intracranial extension was seen. Surgery was advised but patient refused to undergo any treatment. Conclusion: This study highlights the characteristics and clinical features of ENB showing nasopharyngeal involvement and their importance in the differential diagnosis of sinonasal neuroendocrine malignancies.

Cosmic Ray Associated with Coronal Index and Solar Flare Index during Solar Cycle 22 - 23

We study the relation between monthly average counting rates of the cosmic ray intensity (CRI) observed at Moscow Neutron Monitoring Station, solar flare index (SFI) and coronal index during the solar cycles 22 and 23, for the period 1986-2008. The long-term behaviour of various solar activity parameters: sunspot numbers (SSN), solar flare index (Hα flare index), coronal index (CI) in relation to the duration of solar cycles 22 and 23 is examined. We find that the correlation coefficient of CRI with the coronal index as well as Hα flare index is relatively large anti-correlation during solar cycle 22. However, the monthly mean values of sunspot number, Hα flare index, and coronal index are well positively correlated with each other. We have analyzed the statistical analysis of the above parameters using of linear model and second order polynomial fits model.

Tumour Associated Tissue Eosinophilia as a Prognostic Indicator in Squamous Cell Carcinoma of Upper Aerodigestive Tract

Immune response is known to develop against malignant tumours. Malignant tumours express newer antigen on their cell surface membrane which elicit immunological reaction in and around tumoural tissue. In early part of immune reaction neutrophil, eosinophil migrates followed by monocyte-macrophage cell. Tumor associated tissue eosinophilia (TATE) is believed to play a significant role in the biological behavior of the carcinoma. Eosinophil infiltrate in association with the head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) have been reviewed from time-to-time. The significance of such an association has been variably thought to be either a potential diagnostic tool for stromal invasion or as a prognostic indicator. The aim of this study was to investigate and evaluate the possible role of the tumour associated tissue eosinophilia (TATE) as a predictive indicator for the grading and establishing prognosis of the upper aerodigestive tract squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).
