ArthroNet:a monocular depth estimation technique with 3D segmented maps for knee arthroscopy

Background Lack of depth perception from medical imaging systems is one of the long-standing technological limitations of minimally invasive *** ability to visualize anatomical structures in 3D can improve conventional arthroscopic surgeries,as a full 3D semantic representation of the surgical site can directly improve surgeons’*** also brings the possibility of intraoperative image registration with preoperative clinical records for the development of semi-autonomous,and fully autonomous *** study aimed to present a novel monocular depth prediction model to infer depth maps from a single-color arthroscopic video *** We applied a novel technique that provides the ability to combine both supervised and self-supervised loss terms and thus eliminate the drawback of each *** enabled the estimation of edge-preserving depth maps from a single untextured arthroscopic *** proposed image acquisition technique projected artificial textures on the surface to improve the quality of disparity maps from stereo ***,following the integration of the attention-ware multi-scale feature extraction technique along with scene global contextual constraints and multiscale depth fusion,the model could predict reliable and accurate tissue depth of the surgical sites that complies with scene *** A total of 4,128 stereo frames from a knee phantom were used to train a network,and during the pre-trained stage,the network learned disparity maps from the stereo *** fine-tuned training phase uses 12,695 knee arthroscopic stereo frames from cadaver experiments along with their corresponding coarse disparity maps obtained from the stereo matching *** a supervised fashion,the network learns the left image to the disparity map transformation process,whereas the self-supervised loss term refines the coarse depth map by minimizing reprojection,gradients,and structural dissimilarity ***,our method produ

The versatile nature of organic conjugated materials renders their flawless integration into a diverse family of optoelectronic devices with light-harvesting,photodetection,or light-emitting *** of materials that offer the possibilities of two or more distinct optoelectronic functions are particularly attractive as they enable smart applications while providing the benefits of the ease of fabrication using low-cost ***,we develop a novel,multi-purpose conjugated small molecule by combining boron-azadipyrromethene(aza-BODIPY)as electron acceptor with triphenylamine(TPA)as end-capping donor *** implemented donor–acceptor–donor(D–A–D)configuration,in the form of TPA-azaBODIPY-TPA,preserves ideal charge transfer characteristics with appropriate excitation energy levels,with the additional ability to be used as either a charge transporting interlayer or light-sensing semiconducting layer in optoelectronic *** demonstrate its versatility,we first show that TPA-azaBODIPY-TPA can act as an excellent hole transport layer in methylammonium lead triiodide(MAPbI3)-based perovskite solar cells with measured power conversion efficiencies exceeding 17%,outperforming control solar cells with PEDOT:PSS by nearly 60%.Furthermore,the optical bandgap of 1.49 eV is shown to provide significant photodetection in the wavelength range of up to 800 nm where TPA-azaBODIPY-TPA functions as donor in near-infrared organic photodetectors(OPDs)composed of fullerene ***,the established versatility of TPA-azaBODIPY-TPA,combined with its robust thermal stability as well as excellent solubility and processability,provides a new guide for developing highly efficient multi-purpose electronic materials for the next-generation of smart optoelectronic devices.

A robust deep structured prediction model for petroleum reservoir characterization using pressure transient test data

A robust deep learning model consisting of long short-term memory and fully connected neural net-works has been proposed to automatically interpret homogeneous petroleum reservoirs having infinite,no flow,and constant pressure outer boundary *** pressure change data recorded during the well test operation along with its derivative is input into the model to perform the classification for identifying the reservoir model and,further,regression to estimate output *** noise was added to analytical models while generating the synthetic training *** hyperparameters were regulated to perform model optimization,resulting in a batch size of 64,Adam optimization algorithm,learning rate of 0.01,and 80:10:10 data split ratio as the best choices of *** perfor-mance accuracy also increased with an increase in the number of samples during *** classification and regression metrics have been used to evaluate the performance of the *** paper also demonstrates the prediction performance of the optimized model using simulated and actual oil well pressure drawdown test *** proposed model achieved minimum and maximum relative errors of 0.0019 and 0.0308,respectively,in estimating output for the simulated test cases and relative error of 0.0319 for the real test case.

Empirical assessment of adaptation to climate change impacts of mountain households:development and application of an Adaptation Capability Index

The present study proposes an index to assess the potential for adaptation to climate change for households in the mountainous regions. The index provides a realistic approach to recognize social and natural factors which contribute to successful adaptation and addresses several household functions,such as social networking, livelihood strategy, adjustment strategies, resource availability and accessibility. The proposed Adaptation Capability Index(ACI) is analytically defined, mathematically formulated and field tested on mountainous households in urban and semi-urban regions of the Uttarakhand Himalaya in India. To gather data on the topic relevant to the ACI, a household scale questionnaire was developed and administered to 120 heads of households through face-to-face interviews. The results highlight higher adaptive capability of urban households and low adaptation capacity of rural households due to poor farm productivity, low accessibility and availability of resources and technological input. Future programs and policies must include and implement regulations to remedy attributive factors responsible for higher adaptation. This paper may be applicable to other mountainous regions and may provide insights for effective adaptation strategies to climate change.

Anthropogenic disturbances and their impact on vegetation in Western Himalaya,India

The present study assesses anthropogenic disturbances and their impacts on the vegetation in Western Himalaya,India on the basis of various disturbance parameters such as density,Total Basal Cover(TBC) of cut stumps,lopping percentage and grazing *** the basis of canopy cover and frequency of disturbances(%),the studied forests were divided into highly disturbed(HD),moderately disturbed(MD) and least disturbed(LD) *** HD forests had the lowest canopy cover,lowest density and lowest TBC and the LD had the highest canopy cover,highest density and highest *** MD forests occupied the intermediate position with respect to these *** richness was least in HD forests,highest in one of the MD forests while LD forest occupied an intermediate *** percentage of regenerating species was lowest(54%) in HD and highest(72%) in *** density of seedlings and saplings was higher in one of the MD forests as compared to HD and *** concluded that the moderate disturbances do not affect the vegetation adversely;however the increased degree of disturbance causes loss in plant diversity;affects regeneration and changes community *** of hydroelectric projects at various places in the study area was found to be one of the most important sources of anthropogenic disturbances in addition to the routine anthropogenic disturbances like grazing,fuelwood collection and fodder *** all proposed dams in the Indian Himalaya are constructed combined with weak national environmental impact assessment and implementation,it will result in a significant loss of ***,various agents of disturbances should be evaluated in cumulative manner and any developmental activities such as hydropower projects,which trigger various natural and anthropogenic disturbances,should be combined with proper cumulative environmental impact assessment and effective implementation to minimise the anticipated loss of vegetation.

We present the first experimental observation of Anderson localization in the terahertz frequency range using plasmonic *** accomplish this goal,we designed THz waveguides consisting of a one-dimensional array of rectangular apertures that were fabricated in a freestanding metal *** is introduced into the waveguide by offsetting the position of each aperture by a random distance within a prescribed *** example,for a waveguide with apertures spaced by 250μm in a periodic waveguide,10%disorder would correspond to the apertures being shifted by a random value between±25μm along the waveguide *** find that for disorder levels below 25%,there is only an increase in the propagation loss along the ***,for two specific waveguides with 25%disorder,we observe a spatially localized mode that lies just within the stop band of the device and exhibits a double-sided exponential spatial decay away from the maximum.

Self-referenced measurements of the dielectric properties of metals using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy via the excitation of surface plasmon-polaritons

We present experimental measurements that show direct determination of the dielectric properties of various metals relevant to *** contrast to traditional measurements that typically rely on transmission and reflectance measurements,we launch surface plasmon-polaritons on a variety of different substrates and measure the propagation properties using terahertz time-domain ***,we find that the extracted values for the dielectric constant for these metals differ by orders of magnitude from published *** order to validate the obtained results,we separately measure the 1∕e decay length,both along the propagation direction and normal to the metal surface,and show that the results are fully self-consistent with experimental *** generality of the measurement technique makes it a useful tool to estimate the properties not only of planar conducting substrates but also a wide variety of more complex plasmonic structures.

Experimental assessment and prediction of temporal scour depth around a spur dike

Spur dikes are river training structures that have been extensively used worldwide for towards enhancing flood control and the stability of embankments and ***,scour around spur dikes can be a major problem affecting their stability and hydraulic *** precise computation of temporal scour depth at spur dikes is very important for the design of economical and safe spur *** study focuses on experimentally assessing the temporal variation of scour depth around a vertical wall spur dike and identifying the parameters,which mostly influence spur dike performance for a channel bed surface comprised of sand-gravel *** the current study,the authors did physical experiments in a flume based study to obtain new data,aimed at deriving a new predictive model for spur dike scour and comparing its performance to others found in the *** was found that the dimensionless temporal scour depth variation increases with an increase in(i) the threshold velocity ratio,(ii) the densimetric Froude number of the bed surface sediment mixture,(iii) the flow shallowness(defined as the ratio of the approach flow depth,y,to the spur dike’s transverse length,l),and(iv) the flow depth-particle size *** is also concluded that the temporal scour depth variation in the sediment mixture is influenced by the non-uniformity of sediment and decreases with an increase in the non-uniformity of the sediment mixture.A new mathematical model is derived for the estimation of temporal scour depths in sand-gravel sediment *** proposed equation has been calibrated and validated with the experimental data,demonstrating a good predictive capacity for the estimation of temporal scour depth evolution.

Utility of trans-vaginal ultrasound in diagnosis and follow-up of non-pregnant sexually active females with lower ureteric calculi

objective:To assess the utility of trans-vaginal ultrasonography in evaluation of non-pregnant sexually active female patients with lower ureteric ***:A prospective study was done from January 2015 to December 2017 including non-pregnant sexually active females with suspected ureteric ***-abdominal ultrasound was initially done in all *** those patients in whom trans-abdominal ultrasound was inconclusive or there was indirect evidence of lower ureteric calculus in form of ureteral dila-tion but no calculus was evident,trans-vaginal ultrasound was *** patients with ureteric calculi detected on trans-vaginal ultrasound and kept on conservative management were also followed up with trans-vaginal ***-contrast computed tomography was done in patients with inconclusive trans-vaginal ***:As per the study protocol,156 out of the total 468 patients evaluated by trans-abdominal ultrasound were eligible for trans-vaginal ***-vaginal ultrasound was done in 149 patients,as seven patients did not give ***-nine patients were detected with a lower ureteric calculus on trans-vaginal ultrasound and 27 patients had gyne-cologic or other cause for their ***-three patients had an inconclusive trans-vaginal ultrasound of which 36 underwent non-contrast computed tomography,among them only one patient had a lower ureteric *** free status could be easily demonstrated on follow-up trans-vaginal ultrasound.
