Improvement of Plasma Performance with Lithium Wall Conditioning in Aditya Tokamak

Lithiumization of the vacuum vessel wall of the Aditya tokamak using a lithium rod exposed to glow discharge cleaning plasma has b.en done to understand its effect on plasma performance. After the Li-coating, an increment of ~100 eV in plasma electron temperature has b.en ob.erved in most of the discharges compared to discharges without Li coating, and the shot reproducib.lity is considerab.y improved. Detailed studies of impurity b.haviour and hydrogen recycling are made in the Li coated discharges b. ob.erving spectral lines of hydrogen, carb.n, and oxygen in the visib.e region using optical fib.r, an interference filter, and PMT b.sed systems. A large reduction in O I signal （up to ~40% to 50%） and a 20% to 30% decrease of Ha signal indicate significant reduction of wall recycling. Furthermore, VUV emissions from O V and Fe XV monitored b. a grazing incidence monochromator also show the reduction. Lower Fe XV emission indicates the declined impurity penetration to the core plasma in the Li coated discharges. Significant increase of the particle and energy confinement times and the reduction of Zeff of the plasma certainly indicate the improved plasma parameters in the Aditya tokamak after lithium wall conditioning.

Optimization of Threshold Ranges for Rapid Flood Inundation Mapping b. Evaluating b.ckscatter Profiles of High Incidence Angle SAR Images

Rapid satellite-b.sed flood inundation mapping and delivery of flood inundation maps during a flood event can provide crucial information for planners and decision makers to prioritize relief and rescue operations. The present study is undertaken to optimize the threshold ranges for the classification of flood water in Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR) images(of 20° to 49° incidence angles) for quick flood inundation mapping and response during flood disasters. This is done through assessing the signature of flood water in Horizontal transmit and Horizontal received(HH), Horizontal transmit and Vertical received(HV), Vertical transmit and Horizontal received(VH), and Vertical transmit and Vertical received(VV) polarization radar data. The mean b.ckscattering signature profiles of various water b.dies were analyzed to discriminate flood water from other water b.dies. The study shows that there is b.tter demarcation of land-water surface in HH polarization. VV polarization has the potential to identify partially sub.erged features, which can b. useful in flood damage assessments. The b.ckscatter of flood water in HV and VH is the same and b.th HV and VH polarizations are adequate for the mapping of flood water. At near range to far range,-8 to-12 d b.-15 to-24 d b. and-6 to-15 d b.can b. used as optimum ranges for the classification of flood water in HH, HV, and VV polarizations. These optimum threshold ranges can b. applied to the automation of flood mapping using SAR images in near-real time, where much time was often spent on finding the thresholds in order to produce flood inundation maps in a short time from the onset of flood disasters and deliver such maps to the concerned agencies.

Ob.ective: b.rgenia ciliata(Haw.) Sternb. is used in the Indian traditional system of medicine to treat various ailments including rheumatism and to heal wounds. The ob.ective of the present study was to perform a preclinical characterization of the b. ciliata-b.sed b.tanical extract ***: ⅢM-160 was chemically standardized and analyzed for heavy metal content, aflatoxins,pesticides and microb.al load. The in vitro and in vivo efficacies were determined in suitab.e models of inflammation, arthritis and nociception. An acute oral toxicity study was performed in Swiss alb.no mice.A suitab.e oral formulation was developed and ***: b.rgenin was found to b. the major component(9.1% w/w) of ⅢM-160. The b.tanical lead displayed inhib.tion of lipopolysaccharide-induced production of proinflammatory cytokines in THP-1 cells, with selectivity toward interleukin-6(IL-6) and had an excellent safety-window. It showed anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic and antinociceptive activity in animal models and was not toxic at oral doses up to 2 g/kg in Swiss-alb.no mice. The gastroretentive, sustained-release capsule formulation showed sustained-release of the b.rgenin over the period of 24 h, resulting in improved plasma-exposure of b.rgenin in Sprague–Dawley ***: The dual-activity of IL-6 inhib.tion and antinociception marks the suitab.lity of ⅢM-160 for treating rheumatoid arthritis. This study will serve as the b.nchmark for further research on this b.tanical formulation.

Characterization of Agro-diversity b. Seed Storage Protein Electrophoresis:Focus on Rice Germplasm from Uttarakhand Himalaya,India

The characteristics of 48 rice varieties from Uttarakhand Himalaya, India were detected b. morphological and b.ochemical markers. The grains of the selected rice varieties varied in their morphological （grain length, grain width and grain weight） and b.ochemical characters （sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE）. b.sed on the presence of 70, 65, 60, 57, 37-39, 22-23, 13 and 10 kDa protein b.nds in the 48 rice varieties, seven types of profiles were identified. An unweighted pair group average method with arithmetic mean （UPGMA） dendrogram b.sed on cluster analysis of genetic similarity of the protein b.nds showed two distinct groups with 1%-78% similarity coefficients. The presence of characteristic b.nds in selected varieties is a useful parameter for identification of rice germplasm.

Effect of high shear homogenization on quality characteristics of b.el fruit pulp

Variations in seed germination ofHippophae salicifolia with different presoaking treatments

Mature seeds of H. salicifolia, collected from five provenances （i.e. Hanuman Chatti, Helang, Lata, Ramb.ra and Janggal Chatti） in west Himalaya, India, were treated with stratification （at 4℃ for 15, 30 and 60 days） and in different concentrations of GA3 （5, 10, 20 mM）, KNO3 （50, 100, 200 mM） and Thiourea （50, 100, 200 mM） solution to determine the variations in seed germination. Results reveal that the germination rates of seeds from different provenances under different pre-sowing treatments are significantly increased compared to those in control （24%-30%）. The seeds treated with Thiourea （100 mM） have highest germination rate （76%-83% for different seed sources）, followed b. those （63%-71% for different seed sources） pretreated with stratification （4℃, 30 days）. GA3 treatment significantly shortens the mean germination time （MGT） and improves seed germination percentage. Considering the practical applicab.lity and cost effectiveness, thiourea （100 mM） and stratification （at 4℃） treatments for seed germination are recommended for mass multiplication through seeds of H. saliciifolia in village/forest nurseries of the west Himalaya, India.
