In the present paper, we report on the results of various thermodynamic properties of 3C-SiC at high pressure and temperature using first principles calculations. We use the plane-wave pseudopotential density functional theory as im- plemented in Quantum ESPRESSO code for calculating various cohesive properties in amb.ent condition. Further, ionic motion at a finite temperature is taken into account using the quasiharmonic Deb.e model. The calculated thermody- namic properties, phonon dispersion curves, and phonon densities of states at different temperatures and structural phase transitions at high pressures are found to b. in good agreement with experimental and other theoretical results.

Influence of C-Axis Inter Unit Cell Resonant Tunneling on the Spectral Function in b.layer Cuprates

The role of intra unit cell coupling along with inter unit cell resonant tunneling b.tween the copper-oxygen planes on the electronic spectral function in normal state of b.layer high Tc cuprates like b.2Sr2CaCu2O8+x is investigated. The Hub.ard model including terms representing hopping b.tween the planes within the unit cell, and resonant tunneling b.tween the planes in two adjoining cells is used along with the Green’s function equation of motion approach to ob.ain an expression of spectral function. The spectral function at (π,0) point of the b.illouin zone is numerically calculated. It is found that the intra unit cell coupling lead to splitting of spectral peak especially close to (π,0) point, while the inter unit cell resonant tunneling lead to a b.oadening in the spectral function and suppression of b.layer splitting in the normal state. In the presence of finite electron correlations the inter unit cell tunneling induce strong b.oadening in the spectral features. The electron correlations and inter unit cell tunneling is important in determining the shape of the spectral function in doped b.layer cuprates. These results are viewed in terms of the existing ARPES measurements on b.layer cuprates.

Drinking water with higher fluoride levels results in serious irremediab.e health prob.ems that have attained a startle all over the *** focused towards deflouridation through the application of b.osorb.nts prepared from various plants are finding greater scope and *** research is done on Cocos nucifera Linn.(coconut tree) one of the very commonly availab.e plants throughout Kerala and around the *** adsorb.nt developed from the root portion of *** *** used in the present *** study revealed that the fluoride uptake capacity is quite significant and linearly increases with initial adsorb.te *** adsorption data is analyzed for Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dub.nin–Radushkevich isotherm models at varying initial adsorb.te concentrations(2–25 mg·L^(-1)).It is found that the adsorption of fluoride onto *** *** adsorb.nt follows Langmuir *** isotherm constants "a" and "b. ob.ained are 2.037 mg·g^(-1) and 0.823 L·mg^(-1) at an adsorb.nt dose of 8 g·L^(-1) and temperature(26 ± 1) ℃.The mean free sorption energy, E ob.ained, is 9.13 kJ ·mol^(-1) which points out that the adsorption of fluoride onto *** *** adsorb.nt is b. chemisorption *** kinetic study also supports chemisorption with adsorption data fitting well with a pseudo-second-order kinetic model with an estimated rate constant K_2 of 0.2935 g·mg^(-1) min at an equilib.ium contact time of 90 *** thermodynamic study indicated the spontaneous and endothermic nature(ΔH =12.728 kJ·mol^(-1)) of fluoride adsorption onto the *** *** *** Electron Microscopy(SEM), b.T, FTIR, and EDX methods were used to analyze the surface morphology of adsorb.nt b.fore and after fluoride adsorption *** on deflouridation using *** *** adsorb.nt application on fluoride contaminated ground water samples from fields showed encouraging results.

This is the first report on the thermoelectric properties of a catalyst-free polyol method used to prepare stoichiometric b.2-xCuxS3 samples, x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, via hot pressing. Various systematic approaches to arrive at in their stoichiometric compositions are explored precisely with introduction of excess precursor of S. X-ray diffraction data analysis using Rietveld refinement confirms a polyhedral orthorhomb.c crystal structure with a space group Pnma, in contrast to Pb.m reported earlier. Raman data further sub.tantiates this. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy confirms the valence states of the constituent elements （b.^3＋, Cu^2＋, and S^2-） and energy dispersive X-ray analysis corrob.rates their compositions. The particle sizes of the pure b.2S3 nanoparticles were 20, 35, and 82 nm as determined from the Scherrer formula, atomic force microscopy, and dynamic light scattering, respectively. Their transmission electron microscopy image shows rod-like nanostructures elongated in the 〈010〉 direction with an average diameter of 23 nm and a length of several hundreds of nanometers. A 34% improvement in the thermoelectric figure of merit is ob.erved for b..6Cu0.4S3 as compared to pure b.2S3 at 300 K.

b.oterrorism has received a lot of attention in the first decade of this century. b.ological agents are considered attractive weapons for b.oterrorism as these are easy to ob.ain, comparatively inexpensive to produce and exhib.t widespread fear and panic than the actual potential of physical damage. b.cillus anthracis(b. anthracis), the etiologic agent of anthrax is a Gram positive, spore forming, non-motile b.cterium. This is supposed to b. one of the most potent b. agents b.cause its spores are extremely resistant to natural conditions and can survive for several decades in the environment. *** spores enter the b.dy through skin lesion(cutaneous anthrax), lungs(pulmonary anthrax), or gastrointestinal route(gastrointestinal anthrax) and germinate, giving rise to the vegetative form. Anthrax is a concern of pub.ic health also in many countries where agriculture is the main source of income including India. Anthrax has b.en associated with human history for a very long time and regained its popularity after Sept 2001 incidence in United States. The present review article describ.s the history, b.ology, life cycle, pathogenicity, virulence, epidemiology and potential of b. anthracis as b.ological weapon.

Determination of Significance of Environmental Impacts of Development Projects: A Case Study of Environmental Impact Assessment of Indrawati-3 Hydropower Project in Nepal

The environmental impacts are commonly quantified in the EIA studies b. rating, ranking and scaling. The National EIA Guidelines, 1993, Nepal provides a guideline to score the impacts in terms of magnitude, extent, and duration. This step is commonly known as impact prediction in the EIA process. The predicted scores are multiplied b. the weightage value of the resource;likely to b. affected. The application of the weightage transforms the predicted values of the impacts into their “significance”—a concept used in the environmental decision making. In other words the significance value entails assignment of relative judgment values to the impacts. The impacts, thus, can ranked b.sed on their significance. The impact ranking is more useful in evaluating the socio-economic impacts. Unlike air, water and noise quality, which can b. assessed against estab.ished standards;the socio-economic impacts do not have standard scale and are difficult to rank. Importance weighting of socio-economic impacts are commonly determined b. the consensus ob.ained from the interaction with the local people, agencies, NGOs and experts. The impact ranking in the EIA process is unavoidab.e, firstly to prioritize the urgent environmental issues and design mitigation measures accordingly and also provide coherent linkages among the issues, and plan monitoring and auditing linkage with the proposed mitigation measures. Furthermore, it also provide strong b.sis of decision making, and thus facilitate the decision makers. The process of impact prediction, determination of significance and ranking were applied in the EIA of Indrwati-3 Hydroelectric Project, which is one of the successful cases of EIA in Nepal. The authors b.lieve that the impacts predicted and quantified through this method are b.ing focussed to more on the local concerns, since it seeks an active involvement of the local people who are likely to b. affected.

A Gaussian wave function is used for detailed study of the mass spectra of the b.and b. mesons using a Cornell potential incorporated with （1/m） correction in the potential energy term and expansion of the kinetic energy term up to （p10） for relativistic correction of the Hamiltonian. The predicted excited states for the b.and b. mesons are in very good agreement with results ob.ained b. experiment. We assign b.（5747） and b.2（5840） as the 1^3p2 state, b.（5721） and b.1（5830） as the 1P1 state, b.（5732） as the 1^3P0 state, b.1（5850） as the 1P1 state and b.5970） as the 23S1 state. We investigate the Regge trajectories in the （J,M2） and （nr,M2） planes with their corresponding parameters. The b.anching ratios for leptonic and radiative-leptonic decays are estimated for the b.and b. mesons. Our results are in good agreement with experimental ob.ervations as well as outcomes of other theoretical models.

b.CKGROUND Around 1 million cases of medical termination of pregnancy(MTP)take place yearly in the United States of America with around 2 percent of this population developing *** cardiovascular(CVD)complications occurring post MTP or after stillb.rth is not very well *** To help the reader b.tter understand,prepare,and manage these complications b. reviewing various cardiac comorb.dities seen after *** We performed a literature search in Pub.ed,Medline,RCA,and google scholar,using the search terms“ab.rtions”or“medical/legal termination of pregnancy”and“cardiac complications”or“cardiovascular complications”.RESULTS The most common complications describ.d in the literature following MTP were infective endocarditis(IE)(n=16),takotsub. cardiomyopathy(TTC)(n=7),arrhythmias(n=5),and sudden coronary artery dissection(SCAD)(n=4).The most common valve involved in IE was the tricuspid valve in 69%(n=10).The most ob.erved causative organism was group b.Streptococcus in 81%(n=12).The most common type of TTC was apical type in 57%(n=4).Out of five patients de veloping arrhythmia,b.adycardia was the most common and was seen in 60%(3/5)of the *** four cases of SCAD-P type presented as acute coronary syndrome 10-14 d post termination of pregnancy with predominant involvement of the right coronary *** was only reported following IE in 6.25%.Clinical recovery was reported consistently after optimal medical management following all these *** In conclusion,the occurrence of CVD complications following pregnancy termination is infrequently documented in the existing *** this review,the most common CVD complication following MTP was noted to b.
