The aim of the present study was to determine changes in blood electrolytes(calcium and phosphate)in the freshwater catfish Heteropneustes fossilis following short-and long-term exposure to latex of Euphorbia *** investigate the effects of short-term exposure,fish were exposed to 80%of the 96-h LC_(50) of *** latex(2.47 mg/L)for 96 *** assess the effects of long-term exposure,fish were exposed to 20%of the 96-h LC_(50) of *** latex(0.618 mg/L)for 28 *** were killed after 24,48,72 and 96 h(short-term experiments)or after 7,14,21 and 28 days(long-term experiments).Blood samples were collected and sera were analyzed to determine calcium and inorganic phosphate *** calcium levels decreased progressively in *** after 48 h exposure to *** *** decrease persisted until the end of the experiment(96 h).Serum inorganic phosphate levels in treated fish decreased progressively from 72 *** 7 days exposure to *** latex,decreased serum calcium levels were noted in *** that persisted until the end of the *** phosphate levels were decreased in *** on days 21 and 28 of exposure to *** *** is concluded that *** latex alters the blood electrolyte content of the *** change in these electrolytes,particularly calcium levels,may cause disturbances in the normal vital physiological functions of the fish,its growth rate,and even its ability to survive in nature.

High Mountain Asia(HMA),recognized as a third pole,needs regular and intense studies as it is susceptible to climate *** accurate and high-resolution Digital Elevation Model(DEM)for this region enables us to analyze it in a 3D environment and understand its intricate role as the Water Tower of *** science teams of NASA realized an 8-m DEM using satellite stereo imagery for HMA,termed HMA 8-m *** this research,we assessed the vertical accuracy of HMA 8-m DEM using reference elevations from ICESat-2 geolocated photons at three test sites of varied topography and land *** were made from statistical quantifiers and elevation *** the world’s highest mountain,Mount Everest,and its surroundings,Root Mean Squared Error(RMSE)and Mean Absolute Error(MAE)resulted in 1.94 m and 1.66 m,respectively;however,a uniform positive bias observed in the elevation profiles indicates the seasonal snow cover change will dent the accurate estimation of the elevation in this sort of test *** second test site containing gentle slopes with forest patches has exhibited the Digital Surface Model(DSM)features with RMSE and MAE of 0.58 m and 0.52 m,*** third test site,situated in the Zanda County of the Qinghai-Tibet,is a relatively flat terrain bed,mostly bare earth with sudden river cuts,and has minimal errors with RMSE and MAE of 0.32 m and 0.29 m,respectively,and with a negligible ***,in one more test site,the feasibility of detecting the glacial lakes was tested,which resulted in exhibiting a flat surface over the surface of the lakes,indicating the potential of HMA 8-m DEM for deriving the hydrological *** results accrued in this investigation confirm that the HMA 8-m DEM has the best vertical accuracy and should be of high use for analyzing natural hazards and monitoring glacier surfaces.

We identically prepared Cu-nMoSe_(2)(a−plane)and Cu-nMoSe_(2)(c−plane)Schottky barrier diodes(SBDs)on the same n-type MoSe_(2) single *** effective Schottky barrier heights(SBHs)and ideality factors were obtained from the current−voltage-temperature(I–V–T)*** barrier height and ideality factor,estimated from the conventional thermionic emission model by assuming a Gaussian barrier distribution,are highly dependent on temperature.A notable deviation from the theoretical Richardson constant value is also observed in the conventional Richardson *** decrease in the experimental barrier heightΦB0 and an increase in the ideality factor n with a decrease in temperature have been explained on the basis of barrier height inhomogeneities at the metal−semiconductor *** is proven that the presence of a distribution of barrier heights is responsible for the apparent decrease of the zero bias barrier *** voltage dependence of the standard deviation causes the increase of the ideality factor at low *** value of the Richardson constant obtained without considering the inhomogeneous barrier heights is much closer than the theoretical *** Cu-nMoSe_(2)(a−plane)Schottky diode shows better results in comparison with the nMoSe_(2)(c-plane)Schottky diode.

Awareness on nutritive value and health benefits of rice is of vital importance in order to increase the consumption of rice in daily diet of the human beings. In this study, a total of six aromatic and two non-aromatic rice accessions grown in India were analysed for their nutritional quality attributes including proximate composition, mineral contents and fatty acids. Data with three replications were used to measure Pearson＇s simple correlation co-efficient in order to establish the relationship among various nutritional quality attributes. The result on proximate composition showed that Govind Bhog had the highest moisture（13.57%） and fat（0.92%） content, which signifies its tasty attribute. Badshah Bhog exhibited the highest fibre content（0.85%）, carbohydrate content（82.70%） and food energy（365.23 k Cal per 100 g）. Among the minerals, the higher Ca（98.75 mg/kg）, Zn（17.00 mg/kg） and Fe（31.50 mg/kg） were in Gopal Bhog, whereas the highest Na（68.85 mg/kg） was in Badshah Bhog, the highest k（500.00 mg/kg） was in Swetganga, khushboo and Sarbati. The highest contents of unsaturated fatty acids viz. oleic acid（49.14%）, linoleic acid（46.99%） and linolenic acid（1.27%） were found in Sarbati, whereas the highest content of saturated fatty acids viz. myristic acid（4.60%） and palmitic acid（31.91%） were found in Govind Bhog and stearic acid（6.47%） in Todal. The identified aromatic rice accessions Gopal Bhog, Govind Bhog and Badshah Bhog and non-aromatic rice accession Sarbati were found nutritionally superior among all eight tested accessions. The nutritional quality oriented attributes in this study were competent with recognized prominent aromatic and non-aromatic rice accessions as an index of their nutritional worth and recommend to farmers and consumers which may be graded as export quality rice with good unique nutritional values in international market.

High resolution spectral analysis of lithium plasma formed by single and double laser ablation has been undertaken to understand the plume-laser interaction, especially at the early stages of the plasma plume. In order to identify different atomic processes in evolving plasma, time resolved spectral emission studies at different inter-pulse delays have been performed for ionic and neutral lithium lines emitting from different levels. Along with the enhancement in emission intensity, a large line broadening and spectral shift, especially in the case of excited state transition Li I 610.3 nm have been observed in the presence of the second pulse. This broadening and shift gradually decrease with increasing time delay. Another interesting feature is the appearance of a multi-component structure in the ionic line at 548.4 nm and these components change conversely into a single structure at the later stages of the plasma. The multi-component structures are correlated with the presence of different velocity （temperature） distributions in non-LTE conditions. Atomic analyses by computing photon emissivity coefficients with an ADAS code have been used to identify the above processes.

In the present study,we calculated the elastic,mechanical,and thermo-physical properties of Zirconium Nitride(ZrN)/Magnesium Oxide(MgO)(001)nanostructures in the temperature range of 50∼300 k using higher-order elastic *** two fundamental factors,nearest-neighbor distance and hardness parameter,in this tem-perature range,the second-and third-order elastic constants(SOECs and TOECs)are estimated using the Coulomb&Born-Mayer *** computed values of SOECs have been used to calculate Young’s modulus,thermal conductivity,Zener anisotropy,bulk modulus,thermal energy density,shear modulus,and Poisson’s ratio to as-sess the thermal and mechanical properties of the ZrN/MgO(001)nanostructured ***,SOECs are used to calculate the wave velocities for shear as well as longitudinal modes of propagation along crystalline orientations,,andin these temperature *** temperature-dependent Debye average velocity,hardness,melting temperature,and ultrasonic Grüneisen parameters(UGPs)were *** frac-ture/toughness(B/G)ratio in the current investigation was greater than 1.75,indicating that the ZrN/MgO(001)nanostructured layer was ductile in this temperature *** selected materials fully satisfied the Born me-chanical stability *** this ambient temperature,it has been computed how long thermal relaxation takes to complete and how ultrasonic waves are attenuated by thermo-elastic relaxation and phonon-phonon interaction *** results,in combination with other well-known physical properties,can be applied to the non-destructive testing of materials for various industrial applications such as microelectronic devices,optical coatings,batteries,and solar cells.

TiO<sub>2</sub>-Polysulfone Beads for Use in Photo Oxidation of Rhodamine B

The nano sized TiO2 has been synthesized by sol gel process. The titaniumisopropaxide diluted in propanol hydrolyzed under acidic condition to form a gel. The solvent from gel pores has been extracted at ambient pressure resulting in nano sized TiO2 crystallites. The crystalline phase of TiO2 could be assigned to anatase structure. An average crystallite size is about 12 nm. The surface area of TiO2 found to be 235 m2/g. The TiO2 nanocrystallites thus produced were blended with polysulphone to form its beads for ease of operation. These beads of TiO2 were used as photo catalyst in conjunction with H2O2 oxidizer in presence of UV light (254 nm) for treating the 50 ppm Rhodamine B aqueous solution. The solution decolorized within 10 minutes resulting in disappearance of absorption peak at around 600 nm in UV spectrometry. The organic entities degrade in about 60 minutes. The beads of nano sized TiO2 could be easily recovered from the treated effluent for further use.

Critical Role of Protein kinase C (PkC) in the Onset of Airway Hypersensitivity in Ova-Sensitized Guinea Pig Model of Asthma

Background and Objectives: Protein kinase C (PkC) activation plays an important role in activation of T-lymphocytes in asthma. Airway hypersensitivity is one of the main characteristic features of asthma, the mechanism of onset of which is not clearly understood. Therefore, the objective was to elucidate the role of PkC in etiopathogenesis of airway hypersensitivity in asthma. Methods: Male guinea pigs (n = 30) were sensitized with ovalbumin and day of initial allergen-specific immune response determined by intradermal test, airway hypersensitivity, BALF cytology and lung histopathology. Total PkC activity, PkC isoenzymes and phosphoinositides were assessed in airway smooth muscles (ASM) and peripheral blood lymphocytes. Results: Intradermal test revealed that day 9 was the earliest time of allergen-specific response and onset of airway hypersensitivity to ovalbumin. It was associated with significant increase in total and differential (lymphocytes and eosinophils) BALF counts and grade I peribronchiolar chronic lymphocytic inflammation in lung. On day 14, grade II infiltration of lymphocytes and eosinophils with onset ofstructural remodelingofproximal and distal airways was seen. Total PkC activity, expression of PkCα, PkCε and phosphoinositides increased significantly in ASM and lymphocytes on day 9 and were maximum on day 14. There was no change in PkC-τ expression. Conclusions: Activation of PkC, particularly PkCα and PkCε, mediated signal transduction pathway plays a critical role in lymphocyte infiltration and onset of airway hypersensitivity, airway remodeling and asthma pathophysiology. The present study is the first one on the mechanism of the etiopathogenesis of the disease, which shows a direct evidence of the role of PkC mediated pathway in the initiation and onset of airway hypersensitivity in ovalbumin sensitized guinea pig model.

The Complex Phenomenon of Glaciers of Nubra Valley, karakorum (Ladakh), India

The Nubra valley nestled in the karakorum Mountains of Ladakh houses about 600 glaciers of various dimensions out of which 114 glaciers were monitored in the first phase of study. The study of 114 glaciers suggests that small-sized glaciers outnumber the large-sized glaciers. Almost 52.6% of the studied glaciers are of the size less than 5 km and 31.5% of the total glaciers are between the size of 5 and 10 km. The 84 glaciers out of the 114 glaciers have been monitored on shortterm basis between the time period 1989 and 2001 whereas 30 glaciers have been monitored on long-term basis between 1969 and 2001. The monitoring of the glaciers is based on the study of Survey of India topographical sheets of 1969 and satellite imageries of time series between 1989 and 2001. The monitoring of thirty glaciers shows that 17 glaciers have lost their area between 1969 and 2001. The loss in area is from 2150 km2 in 1969 to 2026 km2 in 2001. The study of eighty- four glaciers on short-term basis between 1989 and 2001 suggests that 26 glaciers have retreated, 25 glaciers have advanced and 33 glaciers show no change during the time period. The changes in the glaciers of Nubra valley are varied and complex.
