Ionic liquids(ILs)have been used effectively in many applications for reducing problems related to friction and *** this work,the potential of ILs as an anti-wear and extreme pressure lubricant additive for high load-carrying gearbox applications such as helicopter transmissions has been *** halide-free ILs:P_(8881)(BuO)_(2)PO_(2)^(-)(1)and P_(8881)(MeO)_(2)PO_(2)^(-)(2),which are blended at 5 wt%each into a standard non-additivated FVA2 base oil(BO)are *** solid-liquid interface,friction and load-carrying capacity,and wear(scuffing)behavior are studied on the nano-,lab-,and component-scale,respectively,at a different range of temperature and loading conditions by using the atomic force microscopy(AFM),Schwing-Reib-Verschleiβ(SRV)friction tests,and Brugger tests,as well as forschungsstelle für zahnrader und getriebebau(FZG)back-to-back gear test *** AFM analysis shows nearly no change of adhesion over the full range of studied temperature for the IL blends compared to the ***,IL blends demonstrate a very stable coefficient of friction(COF)of around 0.16,which even decreases with increasing test temperatures ranging from 40 to 120℃.A clear reduction in COF up to 25%is achieved by adding only 5 wt%of the investigated Ils in the BO,and the Brugger tests also show a pronounced enhancement of load-carrying ***,on the component-scale,a significant improvement in gear scuffing performance has been observed for both used IL blends.A detailed characterization of the wear tracks from the SRV friction tests via the transmission electron microscopy(TEM)revealed the formation of a phosphate(P-O)-based amorphous tribo-chemical layer of about 20 nm ***,this work may present an approach for Ils to be used as an additive in conventional lubricants due to their ability to enhance the lubrication properties,making them an alternative lubricant solution for high load-carrying gearbox applications.

Elutriation, attrition and segregation in a conical spouted bed with a fountain confiner

This study examined elutriation,attrition,and segregation in a conical spouted bed with a fountain confiner and incorporating an open sided draft *** silica sand with a wide particle size distribution was employed as a model material,operating in both the batch and continuous *** use of a fountain confiner is crucial when operating with fine particles,because otherwise the bed rapidly exhibits significant *** extent of attrition was quantified using a tracing technique based on differently-coloured sand fractions as well as monitoring size distributions by *** breakage was found to be the primary attrition mechanism,and the fountain confiner was determined to limit the elutriation of fine particles resulting from ***,only a small fraction of the finest particles were entrained from the *** incorporation of a confiner increased operational stability while reducing segregation,especially in the upper half of the bed where the majority of segregation typically ***,the bed was perfectly mixed apart from very minimal segregation close to the wall and at the bottom of the *** results provide a basis for the design and operation of larger scale equipment for the continuous drying of materials.

The relationship between fire severity and burning efficiency for estimating wildfire emissions in Mediterranean forests

Forests are exposed to changing climatic conditions reflected by increasing drought and heat waves that increase the risk of wildfire ignition and *** variables such as rain and wind as well as vegetation structure,land configuration and forest management practices are all factors that determine the burning potential of *** assessment of emissions released by vegetation combustion is essential for determining greenhouse gases and air *** estimation of wildfire-related emissions depends on factors such as the type and fraction of fuel(i.e.,live biomass,ground litter,dead wood)consumed by the fire in a given area,termed the burning *** approaches estimate live burning efficiency from optical remote sensing *** study used a data-driven method to estimate live burning efficiency in a Mediterranean *** severity estimations from Lands at imagery(dNBR),which relate to fuel consumption,and quantitative field data from three national forest inventory data were combined to establish the relationship between burning severity and live burning *** proxies explored these relationships based on dNBR interval classes,as well as regres sion *** correlation results between live burning efficiency and dNBR for conifers(R=0.63)and broad-leaved vegetation(R=0.95)indicated ways for improving emissions *** estimations by severity class(low,moderate-low,moderate-high,and high)are provided for conifers(0.44-0.81)and broad-leaves(0.64-0.86),and regression models for the live fraction of the tree canopy susceptible to burning(7 branches,and leaves).The live burning efficiency values by severity class were higher than previous studies.

Mating disruption(MD)is an effective environmentally-friendly control method against the striped rice stem borer(RSB),Chilo suppressalis(Lepidoptera:Crambidae).In this study,the current MD dispensers release the pheromone exponentially,with higher initial release rates that decrease throughout the *** adjust the timing of dispensers'deployment and evaluate the importance of controlling the early first or the second male flight,field trials were carried out to test the efficacy of two strategies:the early dispenser deployment prior to the first male flight(May)and the late deployment prior to the second flight(June).The early dispenser deployment was more effective in reducing plant damage inflicted by RSB when assessed at ***,neither of these strategies was able to inhibit the male catches of the third flight due to the dispensers5 *** to the airborne pheromone concentrations obtained,around 1.60 ng/m3 were capable to inhib社*** male flight effectively.

Correcting distortions of thin-walled machined parts by machine hammer peening

Thin-walled aerostructural components frequently get distorted after the machining *** to correct distortions or eventually rejecting parts significantly increases the *** paper proposes a new approach to correct distortions in thin-walled components by strategically applying hammer peening on target surfaces of a machined *** alloy 7475-T7351 was chosen for this *** study was divided in two ***,the residual stresses(RS)induced by four different pneumatic hammer peening conditions(modifying the stepover distance and initial offset)were characterised in a test coupon,and one of the conditions was selected for the next *** the second stage,a FEM model was used to predict distortions caused by machining in a representative ***,the RS induced by hammer peening were included in an FEM model to define two hammer peening strategies(varying the coverage area)to analyse the capability to reduce *** workpieces were machined and then treated with the simulated hammer peening strategies for experimental *** in the test coupon showed that pneumatic hammer peening can generate high compressive RS(-50 to350 MPa)up to 800 lm depth,with their magnitude increasing with a reduced stepover *** of hammer peening over 4% of the surface of the representative workpiece reduced the machininginduced distortions by 37%,and a coverage area of 100% led to and overcorrection by a factor of *** confirms that hammer peening can be strategically applied(in target areas and changing the percentage of coverage)to correct low or severe distortions.

Superionic and electride behaviors in materials,which induce a variety of exotic physical properties of ions and electrons,are of great importance both in fundamental research and for practical ***,their coexistence in hot alkali-metal borides has not been *** this work,we apply first-principles structure search calculations to identify eight Na-B compounds with host-guest structures,which exhibit a wide range of building blocks and interesting properties linked to the Na/B *** the known borides,Na-rich Na9B stands out as the composition with the highest alkali-metal content,featuring vertex-and face-sharing BNa16 ***,it exhibits electride characteristics and transforms into a superionic electride at 200 GPa and 2000 K,displaying unusual Na atomic diffusion behavior attributed to the modulation of the interstitial anion *** demonstrates semiconductor behavior in the solid state,and metallic properties associated with Na 3p/3s states in the superionic and liquid *** the other hand,B-rich NaB7,consisting of a unique covalent B framework,is predicted to exhibit low-frequency phonon-mediated superconductivity with a T_(c) of 16.8 K at 55 *** work advances the understanding of the structures and properties of alkali-metal borides.
