Discrete Event Simulation-Based Evaluation of a Single-Lane Synchronized Dual-Traffic Light Intersections

This research involved an exploratory evaluation of the dynamics of vehicular traffic on a road network across two traffic light-controlled junctions. The study uses the case study of a one-kilometer road system modelled on Anylogic version 8.8.4. Anylogic is a multi-paradigm simulation tool that supports three main simulation methodologies: discrete event simulation, agent-based modeling, and system dynamics modeling. The system is used to evaluate the implication of stochastic time-based vehicle variables on the general efficiency of road use. Road use efficiency as reflected in this model is based on the percentage of entry vehicles to exit the model within a one-hour simulation period. The study deduced that for the model under review, an increase in entry point time delay has a domineering influence on the efficiency of road use far beyond any other consideration. This study therefore presents a novel approach that leverages Discrete Events Simulation to facilitate efficient road management with a focus on optimum road use efficiency. The study also determined that the inclusion of appropriate random parameters to reflect road use activities at critical event points in a simulation can help in the effective representation of authentic traffic models. The Anylogic simulation software leverages the Classic DEVS and Parallel DEVS formalisms to achieve these objectives.

As the corona virus(COVID-19)pandemic ravages socio-economic activities in addition to devastating infectious and fatal consequences,optimal control strategy is an effectivemeasure that neutralizes the scourge to its lowest *** this paper,we present a mathematical model for the dynamics of COVID-19,and then we added an optimal control function to the model in order to effectively control the *** incorporate three main control efforts(isolation,quarantine and hospitalization)into the model aimed at controlling the spread of the *** efforts are further subdivided into five functions;u1(t)(isolation of the susceptible communities),u2(t)(contact track measure by which susceptible individuals with contact history are quarantined),u3(t)(contact track measure by which infected individualsare quarantined),u4(t)(control effort of hospitalizing the infected I1)and u5(t)(control effort of hospitalizing the infected I2).We establish the existence of the optimal control and also its characterization by applying Pontryaging maximum *** disease free equilibrium solution(DFE)is found to be locally asymptotically stable and subsequently we used it to obtain the key parameter;basic reproduction *** constructed Lyapunov function to which global stability of the solutions is *** simulations show how adopting the available control measures optimally,will drastically reduce the infectious populations.

铁路运输是一种可靠、快速和安全的交通方式,具有能耗低、环保、容量大、安全性高以及能够适应恶劣天气条件等显著优势。铁路系统由众多组件构成,其中车轮和轨道是系统中重要的组成部分,其不仅要承受轴向载荷、摩擦载荷以及热负荷,还要应对牵引和动态载荷等各种负荷条件。车轮和轨道之间的接触形式主要为滑动、滚动或旋转,由于接触面积小而承受高度集中的应力,因此会产生复杂的轮轨相互作用。这些应力会引起磨损、滚动接触疲劳、点蚀、剥落、蠕变、波状磨损和车轮变形等问题。车轮和轨道之间的接触是一个开放的摩擦学系统,轨道上的水、树叶和人工杂物等污染物会导致附着力下降、表面损伤、疲劳寿命缩短等问题,这对铁路网络的安全和性能有着重要影响。低附着力会导致牵引问题(如车轮打滑),从而导致性能下降、无法正常加速等操作问题,延长运行时间,造成延误等。而制动时低附着力(车轮打滑)会导致制动距离延长、信号未能停止、站台超车等问题,造成安全隐患。由于车轮-轨道系统处于开放环境中,因此适当的粘着力控制对于正常的牵引和制动至关重要。许多研究人员研究了环境因素对车轮-轨道附着力的影响。当高速列车的牵引或制动超过可用附着力时,车轮和轨道之间将会发生明显的滑动,而滑动将导致车轮和轨道的接触温度显著升高,温度的升高则会导致车轮或轨道产生严重的磨损,甚至使车轮和轨道的材料相变导致表面开裂,最终导致车轮-轨道损坏和剥落。在正常高速运行下,车轮和轨道之间的蠕滑也会使车轮和轨道表面的温度迅速升高,使车轮和轨道材料软化并严重降低车轮和轨道之间的附着力。因此,研究由摩擦热效应引起的车轮-轨道黏着特性对于铁路系统的安全运行具有重要意义。第二章:文献综述本章节广泛讨论了关于轮轨接触中的各种轮轨表面损伤、轮轨温度和摩擦热效应、轮轨粘着以及轮轨接触处的第三介质层等的研究。轮轨系统的热负荷主要来源于两方面:轮轨蠕滑和制动。这些负荷会导致接触区域温度升高,从而导致轮对和轨道的损伤。这些损伤包括热裂纹、热斑、滚动接触疲劳、疲劳裂纹、磨损、剥落或磨耗、轮缘变形、平面轮胎和过热轮。热裂纹是由于交替的加热和冷却而产生的,是最严重的损伤。热斑是由制动引起的高应力和温度梯度导致的局部损伤。滚动接触疲劳裂纹通常在车轮表面形成,并可能导致剥落。疲劳裂纹通常起源于轮子中的损伤,也可能由热裂纹发展而来。剥落或磨耗是指轮胎表面的金属碎片脱落,是由热损伤、打滑或过度应力引起的。磨损是当两个物体摩擦接触时车轮直径减小的损伤形式。很多手段可以最大限度低地减少磨耗,比如调整轮子的对准度、润滑形式、使用相似的轮子和轨道材料以及适当的机械设备状态。列车制动时,车轮和轨道之间会产生滑动接触,由于摩擦热效应,导致车轮-轨道接触区域的温度迅速升高。然而,制动过程中车轮和轨道的温度预测是一个复杂的过程。首先,需要建立制动块的摩擦特性模型,用以估计给定列车运行和制动行程下的热量生成率。这涉及到考虑制动块材料、车轮和轨道之间的复杂相互作用,以及列车的动态行为。其次,必须解决运动热源的问题,估计制动块、轨道和车轮产生的热量比例。这需要理解制动块产生的热量是如何传递到车轮和轨道的,并且如何通过对流和辐射散热到周围环境中。计算轨道车辆牵引和制动过程中车轮-轨道的温度,主要有以下三类方法:解析、数值和实验方法。其他车轮-轨道温度计算方法包括传热系数法和热量分配法。解析方法涉及使用方程式和文献数据,根据已知输入(例如摩擦力、速度和其他运行条件)计算车轮和轨道的温度。通常这些方法求解速度快且易于使用,但可能不能保证结果的高准确度,也可能不适用于所有类型的轨道车辆和运行条件。用于模拟牵引和制动过程中车轮-轨道温度的解析方法主要有 T?g?ker-Lundberg 方程,Cattaneo-Vernotte 方程和 Biot-Wilke方程。数值方法涉及使用数值求解方法处理热传递方程,例如有限元分析、有限差分法或边界元法。这些方法通常比解析方法更精确,但需要消耗更多的计算资源,并且更难应用。实验方法涉及使用热电偶或红外摄像机在实际列车运行过程中测量车轮和轨道的温度。这些方法提供的结果最准确,但成本较高,并且在实践中难以实现。在铁路行业中,轮轨粘着和蠕滑是两个不同的基本概念。粘着是指轮轨表面之间的切向力,这个力推动轮子沿着轨道运动,或在制动力矩作用下阻碍轮子的运动。轮轨接触是一个开放的系统,易于受环境条件的影响,例如污染物、温度、湿度等,这些因素会影响附着、摩擦和磨损过程。污染物可能是在轨道上自然形成的(例如雨水、雪、湿度和生物材料如树叶和氧化物),也可能是人为添加到轮轨界面上的(例如润滑剂/润滑脂、牵引胶、摩擦改性剂)。接触体之间的摩擦过程会产生热量,也会影响接触表面的特性。目前,有许多关于粘着损失原因的研究,其中包括水(来自降雨或露水)、湿度、树叶、氧化物、磨损碎片和油污

Assessment of the effectiveness of wood pole repair using FRP considering the impact of climate change on decay and hurricane risk

Effect of In-Service Training Program on the Practice of Healthcare Workers toward Malaria Prevention and Treatment Guidelines during Pregnancy in Health Facilities in Jowhar District, Somalia

Malaria is generally considered a major public health problem in Somalia. Providing early diagnosis and effective treatment is the key element of malaria control strategies in malaria-endemic countries, including Somalia. This required to advocate and ensure health worker’s adherence to the national malaria guidelines at all levels of health care service. A well-designed in-service training program may improve the level of health worker’s adherence to national malaria treatment guidelines, although results have been inconsistent. This is an interventional health facility-based pre and post comparative study aimed to assess the effect of an in-service training program on the practice of healthcare workers toward malaria prevention and treatment guidelines, during in pregnancy in health facilities in Jowhar district, Middle Shabelle region of Somalia. The study was implemented in three phases: pre-intervention phase, intervention phase and post-intervention phase. The sample size consisted of (n = 150) health workers who were selected from ten public health facilities using proportional to size sampling;the data collection adopted in this research is composed of a structured interview questionnaire and observational checklist. Data was analyzed through the application of descriptive statistical analysis that includes frequency and percentage and the Chi-square (x2) test was used to test the associations among variables using SPSS software version 25. The study showed that the level of health workers’ awareness of the national malaria guidelines in the treatment and prevention of malaria in pregnancy was found to be good before the intervention 89 (59.3%) and this proportion increased to 150 (100%) post-intervention of the training program.
