Bone-marrow mesenchymal stem cells reduce rat intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury, ZO-1 downregulation and tight junction disruption via a TNF-α-regulated mechanism

aiM: To investigate the effect of bone-marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM MSCs) on the intestinal mucosa barrier in ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. METHODS: BM MSCs were isolated from male Sprague-Dawley rats by density gradient centrifugation, cultured, and analyzed by flow cytometry. I/R injury was induced by occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery for 30 min. Rats were treated with saline, BM MSCs (via intramucosal injection) or tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α blocking antibodies (via the tail vein). I/R injury was assessed using transmission electron microscopy, hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, immunohistochemistry, western blotting and enzyme linked immunosorbent ***: Intestinal permeability increased, tight junctions (TJs) were disrupted, and zona occludens 1 (ZO-1) was downregulated after I/R injury. BM MSCs reduced intestinal mucosal barrier destruction, ZO-1 downregulation, and TJ disruption. The morphological abnormalities after intestinal I/R injury positively correlated with serum TNF-α levels. Administration of anti-TNF-α IgG or anti-TNF-α receptor 1 antibodies attenuated the intestinal ultrastructural changes, ZO-1 downregulation, and TJ disruption. CONCLUSION: Altered serum TNF-α levels play an important role in the ability of BM MSCs to protect against intestinal I/R injury.

Epoxidation of the carbon-carbon double bonds on unsaturated rubber macromolecules can produce novel modified rubber species with special properties,and construct eco-friendly crosslinking pathway via the reaction of epoxide groups to solve the problems brought by conventional sulfur vulcanization *** this contribution,a novel modified product of isobutylene isoprene rubber(IIR),epoxyfunctionalized IIR(EIIR)was successfully prepared by in situ epoxidation technique for the first time,and the crosslinking of EIIR was achieved by the reaction of oxirane groups with maleic anhydride(MAH)without additional *** reaction conditions for preparing EIIR were optimized through systematic research on the epoxidation *** optimal condition,the degree of epoxidation of the rubber reached around 99%without side *** obtained EIIR/carbon black composites cured by MAH had excellent mechanical properties comparable to those of IIR *** importantly,compared with IIR composites,the air-tightness of the EIIR composites was improved by about 50%,and the flexural fatigue life of first-level cracks and sixth-level cracks was increased by several *** significant improvement of these properties is of great significance for the application safety and energy saving of IIR materials.

Fabrication and luminescent properties of Eu(BMPPA)3BPy complex and its functionalized silica nanocomposites

Luminescent silica nanocomposites functionalized with a Eu-complex have been prepared and characterized. The europium complex is composed of 2,2＇-bipyridyl （BPy） and 2-（4-bromomethyl）- phenylpropionic acid （BMPPA）, which contains highly active benzyl bromide substituents and can covalently bind with poly（4-vinylpyridine）（P4VP）-modified silica nanoparticles （nanoSiO2P4VP） to form nanoSiO2P4VPEuBIy composites. Microscopic images revealed that the nanoSiO2P4VPEuBPy composites easily formed aggregates, due to an inter-particle binding caused by the benzyl bromide among the composites. The as-prepared nanocomposites showed the typical emissions of Eu（III） ions at the wavelengths from 580 nm to 750 nm designated to the SDo- 7Fn transitions. Time-resolved fluorescence decay measurements revealed that the emission lifetime was approximately 0.204 ms and 0.5？6 ms for the nanoSiO2EuBPy composites, a little shorter than that in the Eu（BMPPA）3BPy complex.

High Q,high frequency,high overtone bulk acoustic resonator with ZnO films

Bulk acoustic wave resonators with piezoelectric films have been widely explored for the small size and high quality factor （Q） at GHz. This paper describes a high overtone bulk acoustic resonator （HBAR） based on ai/ZnO/ai sandwich layers and c-axis sapphire substrate. ZnO film with high quality c-axis orientation has been obtained using DC magnetron sputtering. The fabricated HBAR presents high Q at the multiple resonances from a 0.5-4.0 GHz wide band with a total size （including the contact pads） of 0.6 mm×0.3 mm×0.4 mm, The device exhibits the best acoustic coupling at around 2.4 GHz, which agrees with the simulation results based on the one-dimensional Mason equivalent circuit model. The HBAR also demonstrates Q values of 30 000, 25 000, and 6500 at 1.49, 2.43, and 3.40 GHz, respectively. It is indicated that the HBAR has potential applications for the low phase noise high frequency oscillator or microwave signal source.

Secondary plasmon resonance in graphene nanostructures

The plasmon characteristics of two graphene nanostructures are studied using time-dependent den- sity functional theory （TDDFT）. The absorption spectrum has two main bands, which result from and σ ＋ π plasmon resonances. At low energies, the Fourier transform of the induced charge density maps exhibits anomalous behavior, with a π phase change in the charge density maps in the plane of the graphene and those in the plane 0.3 A from the graphene. The charge density fluctuations close to the plane of the graphene are much smaller than those above and beneath the graphene plane. However, this phenomenon disappears at higher energies. By analyzing the electronic properties, we may conclude that the restoring force for the plasmon in the plane of the graphene does not result from fixed positive ions, but rather the Coulomb interactions with the plasmonic oscillations away from the plane of the graphene, which extend in the surface-normal direction. The collective oscillation in the graphene plane results in a forced vibration. Accordingly, the low-energy plasmon in the graphene can be split into two components： a normal component, which corresponds to direct feedback of the external perturbation, and a secondary component, which corresponds to feedback of the Coulombic interaction with the normal component.

Temperature acclimation affects thermal preference and tolerance in three Eremias lizards(Lacertidae)

We acclimated adult males of three Eremias lizards from different latitudes to 28℃,33℃ or 38℃ to examine whether temperature acclimation affects their thermal preference and tolerance and whether thermal preference and tolerance of these lizards correspond with their latitudinal ***,selected body temperature(Tsel)and viable temperature range(VTR)were both highest in *** and lowest in ***,with *** in between;critical thermal minimum(CTMin)was highest in *** and lowest in ***,with *** in between;critical thermal maximum(CTMax)was lower in *** than in other two *** acclimated to 28℃ and 38℃ overall selected lower body temperatures than those acclimated to 33℃;lizards acclimated to high temperatures were less tolerant of low temperatures,and vice versa;lizards acclimated to 28℃ were less tolerant of high temperatures but had a wider VTR range than those acclimated to 33℃ and 38℃.lizards of three species acclimated to the three temperatures always differed from each other in CTMin,but not in Tsel,CTMax and *** results show that:temperature acclimation plays an important role in influencing thermal preference and tolerance in the three Eremias lizards,although the degrees to which acclimation temperature affects thermal preference and tolerance differ among species;thermal preference rather than tolerance of the three Eremias lizards corresponds with their latitudinal distributions.

Docetaxel-loaded liposomes: preparation, pH sensitivity,Pharmacokinetics, and tissue distribution

Docetaxel (DTX), as a member of taxoid family, has been widely used in the treatment of cancers. The present study prepared pH-sensitive DTX-loaded liposomes (DTX-lips) by thin-film dispersion method and various physico-chemical and morphological properties were examined. The pH sensitivity of in vitro DTX release and the in vivo pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution using Kunming mice were also investigated. The mean particle size and zetapotential of DTX liposomes were (277±2) nm and (-32.60±0.26) mV, respectively. Additionally, in vitro drug release study showed that the cumulative release rate was 1.3 times more at pH 5.0 than at pH 7.4, suggesting a pH-dependent releaseability of DTX-lips. Pharmacokinetic and pharmaceutical studies in comparison with Duopafei showed that the half-timeperiod (t1/2) and area under the curve (AUC) of DTX-lips in mouse plasma were 1.8 times longer and 2.6 times higher,respectively, and that DTX-lips selectively accumulated in macrophage-rich organs such as liver and spleen. The seresults together suggest that the DTX-lips could be a promising formulation for the clinical administration of DTX.
