Effect of digital elevation models on monitoring slope displacements in open-pit mine by differential interferometry synthetic aperture radar

Displacement monitoring in open-pit mines is one of the important tasks for safe management of mining *** interferometric synthetic aperture radar(DInSAR),mounted on an artificial satellite,has the potential to be a cost-effective method for monitoring surface displacements over extensive areas,such as open-pit *** requires the ground surface elevation data in the process of its analysis as a digital elevation model(DEM).However,since the topography of the ground surface in open-pit mines changes largely due to excavations,measurement errors can occur due to insufficient information on the elevation of mining *** this paper,effect of different elevation models on the accuracy of the displacement monitoring results by DInSAR is investigated at a limestone *** addition,validity of the DInSAR results using an appropriate DEM is examined by comparing them with the results obtained by global positioning system(GPS)monitoring conducted for three years at the same limestone *** is found that the uncertainty of DEMs induces large errors in the displacement monitoring results if the baseline length of the satellites between the master and the slave data is longer than a few hundred *** the monitoring results of DInSAR and GPS,the root mean square error(RMSE)of the discrepancy between the two sets of results is less than 10 mm if an appropriate DEM,considering the excavation processes,is *** is proven that DInSAR can be applied for monitoring the displacements of mine slopes with centimeter-level accuracy.

The Development of Hi-Speed Punching System Using A Couple of Rotating Bodies

Punched steel sheets (metal sheets or foils) as thi n as 0.1mm are quite useful in the field of filters and various precision instrume nts. Thus, we have to develop more accurate and speedy techniques for punching t hin sheets. The traditional punching method uses an up-down pressing motion of a punch or a die on a strip of metal. The efficiency of this method is determine d by the speed of the motion. In the case of punching a sequence of tiny holes w ith a few millimeters’ interval, the speed of feeding a strip of metal to the p unching machine cannot exceed only a couple of meters per minute. We have de veloped a new technique for punching tiny holes with a pair of rotating bodies i n order to increase the feeding speed up to 100 meters per minute. Our proposed technique is shown in Fig.1 where the female tool has a round blade and the male tool has an M-shape boss. In addition, the setting of two tools i s alternating. The interference between them cannot occur because the clearance between the front and the back edge of the male tool and the female tool in the rotating direction becomes infinite in this configuration. An appropriate cleara nce is given for the thickness of the sheet between the side edge of the male to ol and the female tool. The punching itself is done by shearing. The side edge o f the male tool does contact with the female tool, but they cannot be interferin g. Our technique has another advantage to the traditional up-down pressing mach ine where the stamped out chips are hard to be discharged. It is quite easy in o ur proposed technique. Rapid Construction of a High-Density Rice Linkage Map by High Efficiency Genome Scanning (HEGS) System

High-density linkage maps are essential tools for genome analysis of various biological traits. Our developed compact multi-gel system, HEGS （high efficiency genome scanning） is a high-throughput and high-cost-performance electrophoresis apparatus. Using this system, a high-density （average interval 2.3 cM） map with 1 065 AFLP and 63 SSR markers was constructed from recombinant inbred lines of a japonica and indica hybrid in just two months of electrophoreses by a single person. More than 50% of the mapped AFLP markers were commonly polymorphic for several combinations between japonica and indica rice and 15% were applicable for genetically closer crosses between upland and lowland types of japonica rice. This system can be used for rapid analyses of all kinds of markers.

A currency basket and future exchange rate arrangements in Asia

Due not only to a dominant role of the US dollar in regional trade and financial transactions but also to de facto US dollar pegged exchange rate policy,Asian countries cannot avoid exchange rate risks between their own currency and the US *** recent years,however,the Chinese government has actively promoted the Renminbi(RMB)internationalisation especially in intermational *** December 2015,China introduced a new exchange rate index against a basket of 13 trade-weighted currencies,which can be considered a major turning point from the US dollar standard toward a more flexible currency basket ***,the estimated implicit basket weights reveal that several Asian economies still tend to stabilise their currencies against the US dollar,while Malaysia and Singapore have stabilised their currencies against RMB in recent *** the internationalisation of local currencies and regional monetary arrangements are typically facilitated with each other,further progress of RMB internationalisation is expected to promote a leading role of China in establishing regional exchange rate policy coordination.

Discrete Plane Segmentation and Estimation from a Point Cloud Using Local Geometric Patterns

This paper presents a method for segmenting a 3D point cloud into planar surfaces using recently obtained discretegeometry results. In discrete geometry, a discrete plane is defined as a set of grid points lying between two parallel planes with a small distance, called thickness. In contrast to the continuous case, there exist a finite number of local geometric patterns （LGPs） appearing on discrete planes. Moreover, such an LGP does not possess the unique normal vector but a set of normal vectors. By using those LGP properties, we first reject non-linear points from a point cloud, and then classify non-rejected points whose LGPs have common normal vectors into a planar-surface-point set. From each segmented point set, we also estimate the values of parameters of a discrete plane by minimizing its thickness.

Interaction between Cd and Pb in the soil-plant system: a case study of an arid oasis soil-cole system

The Hexi Corridor,our study area,is located in Northwest China and is also the most developed area of oasis farming in arid regions of Northwestern ***,the rapid development of metallurgy and chemical industries in this region poses a great threat to the accumulation of heavy metals in *** objectives of this study are(1)to determine the influence of heavy metals on plant growth;(2)to assess the translocation capability of heavy metals in soil-plant system;and(3)to investigate the interaction between heavy *** experiments were conducted on cole(Brassica campestris L.)grown in the arid oasis soils singly and jointly treated with cadmium(Cd)and lead(Pb).Nine treatments were applied into the *** the same planting conditions,three scenarios of Cd,Pb and Cd–Pb were designed to compare the interaction between Cd and *** results showed that the response of cole weights to Cd,Pb and Cd–Pb treatments was slight,while Cd and Pb uptakes in cole were more sensitive to the single effects of Cd and Pb concentration in soils from the lower treatment *** the influence of the single Cd,Pb and joint Cd–Pb treatments,Cd concentrations were lower in the cole roots than in the shoots,while for Pb,the results were *** studies revealed that the interaction of Cd and Pb could weaken the cole’s ability to uptake,concentrate and translocate heavy metals in arid oasis soils.

Analysis of Determinants for an Enhanced and Long-lasting Coastal Convective System by Means of a Case Study(26 July 2011)

A precipitation system developed continuously along the western coastline of the Korean Peninsula and created considerable precipitation both along the coast and inland on 26 July 2011. In this study, the causes for this nearshore convective system are investigated from observations and the results of model experiments. Three-dimensional radar fields clearly show that a change of wind at the surface border played an important role in the development of the nearshore convection system. The simulation results, which are very similar to the observations, show that the surface border generated and maintained the convergence zone. The roughness change enhanced the convergence, and the interaction between the deepening cold pool and downward flow maintained the convergence zone. The surface mechanical discontinuity affected by the roughness change between sea and land formed the convergence (gradient of wind stress), which induced momentum transfer to the upper layer. The cold pool created a steep gradient of potential temperature and provided the reason for the propagated convergence zone with the downward flow. The maximum value of the surface change factor, which comprises the influencing factors for the long-lasting convective system, reflects the enhancement of the system at the coast.

BACKGROUND In myelodysplastic syndrome(MDS),oxidative stress is closely related to iron overload and DNA damage.A recent study suggested the possibility that increased oxidative stress causes not only iron overload but also disease progression of MDS with DNA *** present a case of MDS with decreased reactive oxygen species(ROS)production in peripheral white blood cells(WBCs)and decreased diacron-reactive oxygen metabolites(d-ROMs)in serum after azacitidine *** SUMMARY A 74-year-old man presented to the hematological department with the chief complaint of *** vital signs were within normal limits at admission with a heart rate of 80 bpm and blood pressure of 135/60 *** tests indicated pancytopenia,a WBC count of 2190 cells/μL,a hemoglobin level of 6.2 g/dL and a platelet count of 7.4×104/μ*** patient was diagnosed with MDS with fibrosis after a bone marrow *** case showed decreased ROS production in WBCs,d-ROMs in serum and Wilms’tumor 1 after azacitidine therapy,after which his hematopoiesis *** Azacitidine therapy can improve hematopoiesis and decrease ROS and d-ROM production.
