In this research,we used the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation(RUSLE)and Geographical Information System(GIS)to predict the annual rate of soil loss in the District Chakwal of *** parameters of the RUSLE model were estimated using remote sensing data,and the erosion probability zones were determined using *** estimated length slope(LS),crop management(C),rainfall erosivity(R),soil erodibility(K),and support practice(P)range from 0-68,227,0-66.61%,0-0.58,495.99-648.68 MJ/***^(-1).year^(-1),0.15-0.25 MJ/***^(-1).year^(-1),and 1 *** results indicate that the estimated total annual potential soi loss of approximately 4,67,064.25 ***^(-1).year^(-1) is comparable with the measured'sediment ioss of 11,631 ***^(-1).year^(-1) during the water year *** predicted soil erosion rate due to an increase in agricultural area is approximately 164,249.31 ***^(-1).year^(-1).In this study,we also used,Landsat imagery to rapidly achieve actual land use ***,38.i3%of the region was threatened by very high soil erosion,where the quantity of soil erosion ranged from 365487.35 ***^(-1).year^(-1),Integrating GIS and remote sensing with the RUSLE model helped researchers achieve their final ***-use planners and decision-makers use the result's spatial distribution of soil erosion in District Chakwal for conservation and management planning.

Cancer is a frightful disease and represents one of the biggest health-care issues for the human race and demands a proactive strategy for cure. Plants are reservoirs for novel chemical entities and provide a promising line for research on cancer. Hitherto, being effective, chemotherapy is accompanied by certain unbearable side effects. Nevertheless,plants and plant derived products is a revolutionizing field as these are Simple, safer, ecofriendly, low-cost, fast, and less toxic as compared with conventional treatment *** are selective in their functions and acts specifically on tumor cells without affecting normal cells. Carcinogenesis is complex phenomena that involves many signaling cascades. Phytochemicals are considered suitable candidates for anticancer drug development due to their pleiotropic actions on target events with multiple manners. The research is in progress for developing potential candidates(those can block or slow down the growth of cancer cells without any side effects) from these phytochemicals. Many phytochemicals and their derived analogs have been identified as potential candidates for anticancer therapy. Effort has been made through this comprehensive review to highlight the recent developments and milestones achieved in cancer therapies using phytomolecules with their mechanism of action on nuclear and cellular factors. Furthermore, drugs for cancer treatment and their limitations have also been discussed.

Households’ Willingness to Pay for Disaster Resilient Safe Drinking Water Sources in Southwestern Coastal Bangladesh

Nonfunctionality of engineered water sources after two catastrophic cyclones—Sidr in November 2007 and Aila in May 2009—created acute scarcity of safe drinking water in coastal *** objective of this study was to estimate households’willingness to pay(WTP)for disaster resilient water sources in Dacope upazila of Khulna District in southwestern coastal *** applying the double bounded dichotomous contingent valuation method to a dataset of 250 randomly selected households,we found that the mean WTP is BDT 263 and that inaccessibility to functional safe drinking water sources is the most significant determining factor of households’*** mean WTP for a disaster resilient water source project in the study area,we measured a present value of aggregate WTP over project’s life span worth about BDT 624(USD 7.37)million,which is about14.30 times the present value of project’s aggregate establishment and maintenance ***,charging the local inhabitants a water tariff at mean WTP would lead to the exclusion of around 50%of the people from getting access to the improved water services or create a free riding *** simulation exercises this study determined that the socially optimal water tariff is BDT 50 per *** tariff would not only generate revenue of more than five times the project cost but would also create access to disaster resilient improved drinking water sources for almost 99%of the people.

Impairment of extra-high frequency auditory thresholds in subjects with elevated levels of fasting blood glucose

This study was performed to assess whether there is an association between elevated Fasting Blood Glucose(FBG) and hearing impairment in Bangladeshi population. A total of 142 subjects(72 with elevated FBG; 70 control) were included in the study. The mean auditory thresholds of the control subjects at 1,4,8 and 12 kHz frequencies were 6.35 ± 0.35,10.07 ± 0.91,27.57 ± 1.82, 51.28 ± 3.01 dB SPL(decibel sound pressure level), respectively and that of the subjects with elevated FBG were 8.33 ± 0.66,14.37 ± 1.14, 38.96 土 2.23, and 71.11 ± 2.96 ***. The auditory thresholds of the subjects with elevated FBG were significantly(p 10 years) showed significantly(p 40 years) and younger(<40 years) age groups compared to the respective controls. The binary logistic regression analysis showed a 5.79-fold increase in the odds of extra-high frequency hearing impairment in diabetic subjects after adjustment for age, gender and BMI. This study provides conclusive evidence that auditory threshold at an extra-high frequency could be a sensitive marker for hearing impairment in diabetic subjects.

Broadband electroluminescence from reverse breakdown in individual suspended carbon nanotube pn-junctions

There are various mechanisms of light emission in carbon nanotubes (CNTs), which give rise to a wide range of spectral emission characteristics that provide important information regarding the underlying physical processes that lead to photon emission. Here, we report spectra obtained from individual suspended CNT dual-gate field effect transistor (FET) devices under different gate and bias conditions. By applying opposite voltages to the gate electrodes (i.e., Vg1 = –Vg2), we are able to create a pn-junction within the suspended region of the CNT. Under forward bias conditions, the spectra exhibit a peak corresponding to E11 exciton emission via thermal (i.e., blackbody) emission occurring at electrical powers around 8 μW, which corresponds to a power density of approximately 0.5 MW/cm2. On the other hand, the spectra observed under reverse bias correspond to impact ionization and avalanche emission, which occurs at electrical powers of ~ 10 nW and exhibits a featureless flat spectrum extending from 1,600 nm to shorter wavelengths up to 600 nm. Here, the hot electrons generated by the high electric fields (~ 0.5 MV/cm) are able to produce high energy photons far above the E11 (ground state) energy. It is somewhat surprising that these devices do not exhibit light emission by the annihilation of electrons and holes under forward bias, as in a light emitting diode (LED). Possible reasons for this are discussed, including Auger recombination.

Source identification, contamination status and health risk assessment of heavy metals from road dusts in Dhaka, Bangladesh

In this study, concentrations of Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb were determined in road dusts collected from different locations in Dhaka to assess source, contamination status and health risk. Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy were used to determine Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb and their mean concentrations were 162.27 ± 29.46, 721.18 ± 180.14, 35.65 ± 12.55, 104.56 ± 128.33, 515.32 ± 321.90,BDL, and 342.82 ± 591.20 mg/kg, respectively. Among the heavy metals, highest concentrations of Cu, Zn and Pb were found at urban sites-7(municipal waste dumping) and 8(medical waste incineration). Highest concentration of Cr followed by Cu and Zn was found at site-5(Tejgaon, urban). Principal component analysis revealed that anthropogenic activities are the potential sources for Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn and Pb while earth crust for Mn. Pollution index and pollution load index results suggested that all the sites were contaminated and/or degraded by Cr, Cu, Zn and Pb except sites-9(urban), 10(sub-urban), 11(rural) while sites-7 and 8(urban) were extremely degraded. For noncarcinogenic health risk, hazard quotient values for dermal were higher compared to that of inhalation/ingestion. Though hazard index values were less than 1 at all the sites, these were at least one order of magnitude higher for children group than that of adult group, thus the children group may face more noncarcinogenic health risk at sites -7 and 8. Values of incremental lifetime cancer risk were from 10to 10showed no carcinogenic health risk by road dusts contaminated with the heavy metals.

The Shahejie Formation is a fundamental rock unit for hydrocarbon exploration and production in the Nanpu Sag,Bohai Bay *** including thin sectioning,core observations,fluorescence,scanning electron microscopy,cathodoluminescence,fluid inclusion,laser scanning confocal microscopy and geochemical analysis(C,O isotopes)were all utilized to investigate the reservoir characteristics and origin of the Es_(1)*** section study showed that the reservoir rock consisted of feldspathic litharenite and lithic *** reservoir pores are categorized as intergranular pores,fracture pores,dissolution pores and intergranular cement dissolution *** studied sandstone had good porosity(0.05%–35%)and permeability(0.006–7000 mD).The Es_(1) reservoir is classified as a fractured reservoir,a primary intergranular pore-associated reservoir and a dissolution ***,diagenesis and tectogenesis are the main factors that played important roles in the development of the *** is the foundation and assumption for reservoir development,but the effective reservoir is primarily controlled by primary pores,fractures,lithofacies,tectonic elements and dissolution ***,compaction,fracture filling and cementation were the primary sources of reservoir *** reservoir was progressively formed through the influence of different geological and diagenetic *** present study provides significant information and references for hydrocarbon exploration and development in the Nanpu Sag.

Complete control of spatially propagating waves(PWs)and surface waves(SWs)is an ultimate goal that scientists and engineers seek for,in which negative reflection of PW and negative surface wave are two exotic ***,we experimentally demonstrate an anisotropic digital coding metasurface capable of controlling both PWs and SWs with a single coding *** the basis of the digital description of coding metasurfaces,a simple coding method is proposed to allow dual functionalities(either PW or SW manipulations)under two orthogonal polarizations at arbitrarily oblique incidences,thus improving the adaptability of digital coding metasurfaces in more practical *** elaborately designed ellipse-shaped coding particles,we experimentally demonstrate various functions under oblique incidences,including the negative reflection of PW,negative SW,anomalous reflection and their arbitrary combinations,all having good agreements with theoretical and numerical *** believe that the proposed method may enable the digital coding metasurfaces to have broad applications in radar detections,wireless communications and imaging.

For the users＇ convenience of accessing the AGRIS resources quickly and using them fully, the paper decomposes the structure of AGRIS Search net, analyzes the users＇ requirement met for conducting a bilingual （ZH/EN） retrieval, the system function extensions based on AGRIS English retrieval system and the key issues which the core function module should resolve. Derived by the application requirement, the paper also puts forward to a bilingual retrieval model on the basis of CAT/AGROVOC mapping, designs and realizes the ZH/EN bilingual retrieval prototype system.
