Auditory Clinical Profile of Nightclub Employees in the City of Parakou in 2021

Introduction: Hearing impairments are common among nightclub workers. The present work aims to study the hearing clinical profile of these employees in the city of Parakou in 2021. Methods: This was a cross-sectional, descriptive analytical study from March 14 to June 15, 2021. It focused on employees of 13 nightclubs in the city of Parakou. Were included in the study, employees with at least 03 months of practice and aged at least 18 to 50 years at most on the date of the survey and who had given their informed consent to participate in the study. Each employee received a questionnaire, an otoscopy and an acoumetry in tune. Noise pollution was measured at each workstation using a sound level meter. Results: A total of 114 employees were collected. The mean age was 26.38 years ± 4.81 and the sex ratio 0.87. The server position was occupied by 65 employees (57%) followed by managers, 19 or 16.70%- and 17-disc jockeys, 14.90%. Among the employees 31.60% exercised between 03 and 09 months. 76.32% were exposed to noise for more than 8 hours per day and 81.58% were exposed to noise for more than 40 hours per week. The sound level at the workstation was for 59 employees (51.75%) between 90 and 100 dB. Tinnitus was the most expressed complaint, respectively 21 (18.40%) on the right and 22 (19.30%) on the left. Rinne’s test was positive in 85.10% of employees. Weber’s test was indifferent to all frequencies in the majority of respondents. Conclusion: Hearing damage among nightclub employees in the city of Parakou is a reality. It is important to put preventive measures in place.

Profile of Factors of Arduous Work among Healthcare Professionals in Healthcare Facilities in Northern Benin in 2021

Introduction: Work environments create the basis for arduous nursing work. This is what led us to research the factors of arduousness in the exercise of the health profession in North Benin, through this study. Methods: This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study which focused on health professionals in the health zones of Parakou-N’dali and Tchaourou. The sampling was an exhaustive census. All health workers who had given their free and informed consent were included. The data was collected using a questionnaire. The variables studied were the factors of arduous work and socio-professional characteristics. The data collected was processed and analyzed with the Epi info 7.***.0.1 software. Results: A total of 692 were surveyed, the participation rate was 85.11% and the sex ratio (M/F) equal to 0.7. The average age was 38 years old. Nurses made up 32.66% of the sample. They were 86.42% subject to night work and 82.66% to alternating work. Overall, 70.23% worked more than 40 hours per week. Between 78.12% and 96.46% of non-specialist doctors, nurses, midwives and biomedical analysis technicians were required to work night shifts. Nurses, midwives, radiology and laboratory technicians were between 89.53% and 97.35%, organized in alternating work. In the sample, 55.20% complained about the insufficient number of work materials, 26.29% handled harmful chemical substances. Among those surveyed, 58.14% had been attacked. Conclusion: All professional categories of caregivers are subject to arduous work. Measures are needed to reverse the situation.

Prevalence and Factors Associated with Vitamin D Deficiency in Patients with COVID-19 in Parakou in 2021

Introduction: Coronavirus 19 disease (COVID-19) often presents several serious complications in patients. 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] deficiency is considered a risk factor for severe forms of the disease. Objective: The objective of this work was to determine the prevalence and factors associated with vitamin D deficiency in patients with COVID-19 in Parakou in 2021. Methods: The method used was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection that covered the period of August 1, 2021, to December 30, 2021. It concerned patients with COVID-19, symptomatic or not, in the commune of Parakou, selected by non-probability sampling. The 25(OH)D assay was performed by an enzyme immunoassay using the heterogeneous phase competition technique. Logistic regression was used to determine the factors associated with 25(OH)D deficiency at the 5% threshold. Results: A total of 197 patients with COVID-19 were included in the study with a mean age of 35.4 ± 15.2 years;with a female predominance (52.3%). The overall prevalence of 25(OH)D deficiency was 31.5% (95% CI [25.1 - 38.5]);it was 32.0% in females and 30.8% in males. 25(OH)D deficiency was more observed in patients ≥ 60 years than in patients < 60 years with no significant difference (p = 0.121), and in females (32.0%) than in males (30.8%) with no significant difference either (p = 0.857). Diabetes (p = 0.036), overweight or obesity (p = 0.032), severe disease forms (p = 0.003) and rhinitis (p = 0.009) were significantly associated with 25(OH)D deficiency. Conclusion: One-third of patients with COVID-19 in Parakou in 2021 were 25(OH)D deficient. 25(OH)D deficiency is associated with the severe form of the disease and with comorbidities justifying supplementation of this vitamin to patients with COVID-19.

Psycho-Emotional Aspects and Risk Factors Associated with the Onerous Nature of Retirement Concerning Civil Servants within the Public Administration in Parakou (Benin)

Background: In 20% of cases, retirement is experienced as a life event with risk of isolation and loneliness. The objective is to study the psycho-emotional aspects and risk factors associated with civil servants onerous retirement. Methods: It was a descriptive and cross-sectional study which involved 233 pensioners met at the Public Treasury’s Revenue Office in Parakou from June 1 to August 30, 2013. Data were collected through an interview on vulnerability criteria, and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale was used in assessing both anxiety level and depressed mood. Results: Pensioners’ average age was 61.1 ± 6.7 years. Males aged 50 to 60 years represented 47.2%. Following the announcement of retirement, 88.9% had feelings of fear, and 75.8% showed moderate to severe anxiety prevalence of which 88.2% were females and 73.9% males. The distribution according to professional categories was as follow: A (77.3%);B (72.6%);C (69.2%);(85.5%);E (85.7%). Retirement risk factors were: dependants (73.1%), age-related disorders (40.3%), lack of health insurance coverage (24.6%) resulting in a depressed mood (36%) strongly associated with a feeling of family and social abandon (87.8% P = 0.02). Conclusion: Depending on job onerousness in each professional category and associated psycho-social risk factors, it is important to implement an adequate action plan in view of promoting pensioners mental health.

Epidemiological Profile of Dermatosis among Automobile Repair and Maintenance Garages in the City of Parakou in 2020

Background: Occupational dermatoses, also called occupational dermatitis or occupational dermatitis, are very common in the workplace and are still a topical subject. All over the world, especially in developed countries. They handicap the professional activities of the workers. Purpose: To determine the epidemiological profile of dermatosis among automobile repair and maintenance garages in Parakou. Methods: It was a cross-sectional and descriptive study carried out from 20 April to 17 May 2020. The sampling method was non-probabilistic. Data collected from a questionnaire, clinical examination and worksite observation were analyzed with Epi Info 7.***.2.1 software. Results: The participation rate was 98.08%. The sex ratio (male/female) was 178. The mean age of the respondents was 25.80 ± 10.22 years. Respondents with less than 5 years of experience in the field were 61.22%. Mechanics were the most numerous. In the sample, 95.81% had frequent skin contact with fuels, 84.08% had contact with motor oils and 15.92% had contact with dilute battery electrolyte solutions. The frequency of dermatosis was 73.46%. Hands and wrists were the most affected seats (47.35%). Some (33.84%) wore them before the start of the activity in the garage but in 66.22% of them, the dermatosis had occurred because of their arrival in the garage. Among these skin diseases, keratoderma predominated at 80.01%. Conclusion: Dermatosis is very common among garage owners in Parakou.

Introduction: Work accidents (WA) have consequences for both the individual and the company. The objective of this study is to study the profile of work accidents declared to the Parakou agency of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS) from 2015 to 2021. Method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study with retrospective data collection. It concerned workers affiliated with the CNSS in Parakou, victims of declared WA whose file was available and exploitable. The sampling was exhaustive. Data was collected from registers and worker records. The variables studied were socio-demographic and related to the accident. They were analyzed using R version 4.1 software. Results: The annual incidence rate of WA varied from 5.8% in 2015 to 1.7% in 2021. The victims were 90.6% male. There were more subjects aged 28 to 37 years (37.1%). Workers and laborers were the most concerned. Fractures (22.9%) were the major lesions. At 38.5% they sat in the thoracic limbs and at 22.5% in the pelvic limbs. The majority (63.6%) of these accidents occurred in the workplace. The processing industry sector was mainly (52.1%) the place of accidents. Conclusion: The prevalence of WA declared to the agency of the National Social Security Fund of Parakou from 2015 to 2021 is decreasing. The most affected were young people. It is important to assess their socio-economic impacts.

Objective: To study the epidemiological profile of stress among health professionals in North Benin in 2021. Methods: It was a cross-sectional and descriptive study with health professionals in the Parakou-N’dali and Tchaourou health zones. These two areas have a population of 462,942 inhabitants served by two university hospitals, three area hospitals and 19 health centers. Sampling was exhaustive by free and informed consent. The data was collected through a questionnaire. Studied socio-professional characteristics and stress. The level of stress was assessed using the Karasek questionnaire. Results: Of 813 caregivers approached, 692 were investigated. The participation rate was 85.1%. The average age was 38 years old. Subjects aged 28 - 38 were more numerous, as were those aged between 1 and 10 years. The prevalence of stress was 73.8%. Its level was high at 17.8% and very high at 4.5%. Women were affected (76.6%) than men (70.7%). Within the professional category, midwives were the most affected (82.5%). Respondents from the denominational sector were 90.8% reached. Conclusion: Professional stress is endemic in health facilities in northern Benin, particularly faith-based ones. Action must be taken to reduce it.

Response of C and N cycles to N fertilization in Sphagnum and Molinia-dominated peat mesocosms

Plant communities play an important role in the C-sink function of peatlands. However,global change and local perturbations are expected to modify peatland plant communities,leading to a shift from Sphagnum mosses to vascular plants. Most studies have focused on the direct effects of modification in plant communities or of global change(such as climate warming, N fertilization) in peatlands without considering interactions between these disturbances that may alter peatlands' C function. We set up a mesocosm experiment to investigate how Greenhouse Gas(CO_2, CH_4, N_2O) fluxes, and dissolved organic carbon(DOC)and total dissolved N(TN) contents are affected by a shift from Sphagnum mosses to Molinia caerulea dominated peatlands combined with N fertilization. Increasing N deposition did not alter the C fluxes(CO_2 exchanges, CH_4 emissions) or DOC content. The lack of N effect on the C cycle seems due to the capacity of Sphagnum to efficiently immobilize N. Nevertheless, N supply increased the N_2O emissions, which were also controlled by the plant communities with the presence of Molinia caerulea reducing N_2O emissions in the Sphagnum mesocosms. Our study highlights the role of the vegetation composition on the C and N fluxes in peatlands and their responses to the N deposition. Future research should now consider the climate change in interaction to plants community modifications due to their controls of peatland sensitivity to environmental conditions.

Fruit set is inhibited by adverse temperatures,with consequences on *** isolated a tomato mutant producing fruits under non-permissive hot temperatures and identified the causal gene as SIHB15A,belonging to classⅢhomeodomain leucine-zipper transcription ***15A,loss-of-function mu-tants display aberrant ovule development that mimics transcriptional changes occurring in fertilized ovules and leads to parthenocarpic fruit set under optimal and non-permissive temperatures,in field and greenhouse *** cold growing conditions,SIHB15A is subjected to conditional haploinsufficiency and recessive dosage sensitivity controlled by microRNA 166(miR166).Knockdown of SIHB15A alleles by miR166 leads to a continuum of aberrant ovules correlating with parthenocarpic fruit *** with this,plants harboring an Slhb15a-miRNA166-resisiant allele developed normal ovules and were unable to set parthenocarpic fruit under cold *** affinity purification sequencing and RNA-sequencing analyses revealed that SIHB15A is a bifunctional transcription factor expressed in the ovule ***15A binds to the promoters of auxin-related genes to repress auxin signaling and to the promoters of ethylene-related genes to activate their expression.A survey of tomato genetic biodiversity identified pat and pat-1,two historical parthenocarpic mutants,as alleles of *** together,our findings demonstrate the role of SIHB15A as a sentinel to prevent fruit set in the absence of fertilization and provide a mean to enhance fruiting under extreme temperatures.
