Distribution,enrichment mechanism and risk assessment for fluoride in groundwater:a case study of Mihe-Weihe River Basin,China

Due to the unclear distribution characteristics and causes of fluoride in groundwater of Mihe-Weihe River Basin(China),there is a higher risk for the future development and utilization of ***,based on the systematic sampling and analysis,the distribution features and enrichment mechanism for fluoride in groundwater were studied by the graphic method,hydrogeochemical modeling,the proportionality factor between conventional ions and factor *** results show that the fluorine content in groundwater is generally on the high side,with a large area of medium-fluorine water(0.5–1.0 mg/L),and high-fluorine water is chiefly in the interfluvial lowlands and alluvial-marine plain,which mainly contains HCO_(3)·Cl-Na-and HCO_(3)^(-)Na-type *** vertical zonation characteristics of the fluorine content decrease with increasing depth to the water *** high flouride groundwater during the wet season is chiefly controlled by the weathering and dissolution of fluorine-containing minerals,as well as the influence of rock weathering,evaporation and *** weak alkaline environment that is rich in sodium and poor in calcium during the dry season is the main reason for the enrichment of ***,an integrated assessment model is established using rough set theory and an improved matter element extension model,and the level of groundwater pollution caused by fluoride in the Mihe-Weihe River Basin during the wet and dry seasons in the Shandong Peninsula is defined to show the necessity for local management measures to reduce the potential risks caused by groundwater quality.

Metabolic syndrome and the urinary microbiome of patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy

Objective:To identify possible stone-promoting microbes,we compared the profiles of microbes grown from stones of patients with and without metabolic syndrome(MetS).The association between MetS and urinary stone disease is well established,but the exact pathophysiologic relationship remains *** evidence suggests urinary tract dysbiosis may lead to increased nephrolithiasis ***:At the time of percutaneous nephrolithotomy,bladder urine and stone fragments were collected from patients with and without *** sample types were subjected to expanded quantitative urine culture(EQUC)and 16 S ribosomal RNA gene ***:Fifty-seven patients included 12 controls(21.1%)and 45 MetS patients(78.9%).Both cohorts were similar with respect to demographics and non-MetS *** controls had uric acid stone *** EQUC,bacteria were detected more frequently in MetS stones(42.2%)compared to controls(8.3%)(p=0.041).Bacteria also were more abundant in stones of MetS patients compared to *** validate our EQUC results,we performed 16 S ribosomal RNA gene *** 12/16(75.0%)sequence-positive stones,EQUC reliably isolated at least one species of the sequenced *** were detected in both“infectious”and“non-infectious”stone ***:Bacteria are more common and more abundant in MetS stones than control *** findings support a role for bacteria in urinary stone disease for patients with MetS regardless of stone composition.

HB-Protocol Based Advance Security System for PKES Using Multiple Antennas

Modern cars are mostly computerized and equipped with passive keyless entry and start(PKES) system. PKES is based on Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) technology for authentication of the authorized drivers. RFID technology has replaced the conventional ways of identification and authorization in order to facilitate users while introducing new security challenges. In this article, we focused on verifying the presence of authorized key in the physical proximity of car by employing multiple antennas. Application of multiple antennas to the currently developed cryptographic algorithms opens a new approach for researchers to improve security of RFID based systems. We propose an advanced security system for PKES using multiple antennas wherein an authorized key passes through multiple vicinities to allow driver to access and start the car. Furthermore, we modified a light-weight cryptographic protocol named as HB(Hopper and Blum) protocol to integrate it with the proposed design based on multiple antennas. Simulation results show improvement in security functionality while keeping in view the efficiency constraints.

Experimental results of the tribology of aluminum measured with a pin-on-disk tribometer: Testing configuration and additive effects

The friction coefficient, wear rate, and wear coefficient of the aluminum metal surface were measured at room temperature (≈300 K) with a pin-on-disk machine at a fixed load of 196.2 N. Two different testing configurations were adopted: (1) aluminum pin vs. Helix oil-on-steel disk (AHS) and (2) aluminum pin vs. 10% Polytron plus 90% helix oil-on-steel disk (APS). In the AHS configuration, the wear of the aluminum surface was found to be approximately 70 μm; however, in the APS configuration the wear dropped to 20 μm, revealing a marked decrement of one-third of the wear of aluminum. The volume wear rate of the metal in the unaided Helix oil was estimated to be 1.28×10–3 mm3/min. The additive minimized the volume wear rate of the aluminum metal by orders of magnitude to 6.08×10–5 mm3/min. Similarly, the wear coefficient of the aluminum pin, calculated in the AHS configuration, rendered a value of 1.27×10–10 m2/N. In the APS configuration, the same parameter was 4.22×10–11 m2/N, that is to say, an order of magnitude lower than the preceding value. The observed coefficient of friction for aluminum is 0.012 in Helix oil and falls to a remarkably lower value of 0.004 through the Polytron additive. The experimental findings demonstrate that Polytron additive substantially lessens the wear of the aluminum surface; in effect, the wear coefficient and the wear rate decline linearly. This singularity may be linked to the ability of Polytron to impregnate the crystal structure of the metal due to its ionic character and the consequent adherence to the metallic surface as a hard surface layer.

Teaching Today＇s Students to Build Tomorrow＇s Universally Designed Society

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities defines the term universal design as the design of products, environments, programs and services to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design. This paper attempts to highlight the importance of universal design as a core element in the training of architects and engineers. It emphasizes the need for students to take an interdisciplinary, comprehensive, and analytic approach to universal design through degree courses in these fields. An interdisciplinary teaching program for universal design as part of an introductory course for first-year students at Bergen University College in Norway, illustrates one possible strategy for raising awareness of universal design and for improving interaction across disciplines. In this context, the paper discusses the relevance of the seven principles of universal design as guidelines for the built environment. It also emphasizes why universal design should be an integral part of established subjects rather than be classified as a separate subject in a bachelor＇s or master＇s degree program.

Physical layer authentication for automotive cyber physical systems based on modified HB protocol

Automotive cyber physical systems(CPSs)are ever more utilizing wireless technology for V2X communication as a potential way out for challenges regarding collision detection,wire strap up troubles and collision ***,security is constrained as a result of the energy and performance limitations of modem wireless ***,the need for efficient secret key generation and management mechanism for secured communication among computationally weak wireless devices has motivated the introduction of new authentication ***,there has been a great interest in physical layer based secret key generation schemes by utilizing channel ***,it is observed that the sequence generated by two communicating parties contain mismatched bits which need to be reconciled by exchanging information over a public *** can be an immense security threat as it may let an adversary attain and recover segments of the key in known channel *** proposed Hopper-Blum based physical layer(HB-PL)authentication scheme in which an enhanced physical layer key generation method integrates the Hopper-Blum(HB)authentication *** information collected from the shared channel is used as secret keys for the HB protocol and the mismatched bits are used as the induced noise for learning parity with noise(LPN)*** proposed scheme aims to provide a way out for bit reconciliation process without leakage of information over a public ***,HB protocol is computationally efficient and simple which helps to reduce the number of exchange messages during the authentication *** have performed several experiments which show that our proposed design can generate secret keys with improved security strength and high performance in comparison to the current authentication *** scheme requires less than 55 exchange messages to achieve more than 95%of correct authentication.

Assessment of Serum Magnesium Level in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with Diabetic Foot Ulcers (Grade I and II) at Nawabshah, Pakistan

Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disorder increasing morbidity and mortality worldwide, which needs exact identification and proper management. Aim of this study was to analyze the serum Mg (magnesium) level in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with grade I & II diabetic foot ulcers. This descriptive cross sectional study was conducted at Medicine Department, PMCH Nawabshah from June 2015 to December 2016. A total of 110 Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with foot ulcer patients, 51 with grade I and 59 with grade II out of total were included by purposive sampling. After consultation, subjects were categorized as gender, age, Type 2 DM and foot ulcer duration, foot ulcer grading and grouping for analyses. Wagner’s classification of diabetic foot ulcers used to analyze the data and blood samples were collected for research purpose in fasting state for serum Magnesium level analyses. Out of 110, 67 (65.5%) males and 43 (34.5%) females were reported with Type 2 diabetic patients. Hypomagnesaemia was reported in 59% patients out of total, 24 found with grade I and 38 found with grade II from the studied subjects. P value ≤0.000 was in the studied population in relation to hypomagnesaemia. In conclusion, Hypomagnesaemia is common in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients with grade I & II foot ulcers. As the duration of Diabetes along with duration of diabetic foot ulcer in Grade I and II increases, the level of serum magnesium decreases. As the duration of Diabetes Mellitus increases, the severity of complications might also increase.

Spontaneous Bilateral Pneumothorax with Recurrent Pneumothorax: A Case Report

Aim: To report a rare case of spontaneous bilateral pneumothorax with recurrent pneumothorax. Background: Spontaneous bilateral pneumothorax is medical and surgical emergency. It is presence of free air in the bilateral pleural spaces. It rarely occurs at any age but usually young age without apparent precipitating etiology in healthy subjects without any existing pathology. Case Report: In present case, a non smoker, uneducated, young housewife was received in emergency in critical condition and admitted in Intensive Care Unit directly, Peoples Medical university Hospital, Nawabshah, and Sindh, Pakistan. She felt difficulty in breath and after few moments she complained chest pain on right side of chest. They rushed in emergency in Peoples Medical University hospital and diagnosed as case of pneumothorax and at the same time her symptoms started worsening and she developed central cyanosis. In emergency chest X-ray was done showing bilateral pneumothorax, patient developed respiratory distress, emergency bilateral chest intubation was done and due to SO2 drop. Patient was kept on mechanical ventilation. After 24 hours she was weaned off and she was vitally in stable state and shifted in medical department and after 2 weeks she was discharged well. After 3 days of discharge she again came in emergency X-ray shown right sided recurrent pneumothorax, chest intubation done and she was referred to Oojha Institute of Chest Diseases, Karachi, Pakistan for further management and Pleurodesis. Conclusion: Bilateral spontaneous pneumothorax is medical and surgical emergency, diagnosis is thru clinical history, examination of chest and X-ray chest. Prompt diagnosis and management with chest intubation bilaterally and supportive treatment may decrease the morbidity in these critical cases.
