The Expression of miRNAs in Sudanese Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Khartoum State

Background: MicroRNAs (miRs) are noncoding gene regulators that may have a role as diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Aim: To measure the blood levels of miR-146a, miR-126 and miR-30a in Sudanese SLE patients and to investigate their potential role in disease pathogenesis and utility as biomarkers for SLE. Material and Methods: A total of 48 SLE patients and 20 matched healthy individuals were enrolled in this study. SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI) was assessed. The blood levels of miR-146a, miR-126 and miR-30a were determined by Real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in all participants. Γ-INF and IL-2 were analyzed by ELISA, and CD markers were used in flow cytometry. Results: The mean age of the patients was 31.5 ± 8.5 years with disease duration > 5 years. In SLE patients, the mean blood level fold changes of miR-146a (0.33 ± 0.277;P 0.305) compared to controls. Down regulation of miR-146a increase expression of γ-INF (P 0.05) as no differences between the SLE patients and healthy control. Conclusion: Circulating miR-146a and miR-126 could be a potential noninvasive biomarker in SLE. This study provides an overview of the current state of research on the role of miRNAs in the immune pathogenesis and regulation of SLE. Further studies are needed in miRNAs profiling expressions of SLE diseases.

Spatial and temporal analysis of forest cover change in Falgore Game Reserve in Kano, Nigeria

Introduction:Multi-temporal land-use and land-cover data provides a historical vehicle for determining and evaluating long-term trends in bio-physical ***-use and land-cover assessment and mapping is one of the most useful applications of geographic information system(GIS)for planning,management,and *** study analyses the spatio-temporal pattern of forest cover dynamics for three decades in Falgore Game Reserve in Kano,*** dynamics of forest cover transition during 1985–2015 was analysed using multi-temporal Landsat ***:The spatio-temporal analysis shows that moderate woodland dominated in 1985(46%)and 2005(57%)but was replaced by open woodland in 2015 which accounts for 58%of the total area of Falgore Game Reserve(FGR)*** woodland occupied the least area of the total forest estate that varied between 17%in 1985 and 1%in *** results indicate that dense woodland,moderate woodland,and very open woodland were decreased at annual average rate of 3,1,and 0.4%.Open woodland had expanded from 21,127 ha in 1985 to 53,392 ha in *** main drivers of forest resource degradation in the area were found to be excessive fuelwood collection,overgrazing,agricultural expansion,and forest ***:These findings suggest that protection strategies employed in FGR were not effective as deforestation is still evident in the *** and environmental based NGOs should therefore prioritize effective and efficient conservation strategy for present and future use of forest resources,in addition to the provision of alternative livelihood sources to communities proximate to the *** will ensure the socio-economic well-being of the locals and sustainable conservation of biological diversity in the area.

Non-timber forest products and their contribution to households income around Falgore Game Reserve in Kano, Nigeria

Introduction:In the recent decades,there has been growing interest in the contribution of non-timber forest products(NTFPs)to livelihoods,development,and poverty alleviation among the rural *** has been prompted by the fact that communities living adjacent to forest reserves rely to a great extent on the NTFPs for their livelihoods,and therefore any effort to conserve such resources should as a prerequisite understand how the host communities interact with ***:Multistage sampling technique was used for the study.A representative sample of 400 households was used to explore the utilization of NTFPs and their contribution to households’income in communities proximate to Falgore Game Reserve(FGR)in Kano State,*** statistics and logistic regression analysis were used to analyze and summarize the data ***:The findings reveal that communities proximate to FGR mostly rely on the reserve for firewood,medicinal herbs,fodder,and fruit nuts for household use and *** from NTFPs accounts for 20–60%of the total income of most(68%)of the sampled *** utilization of NTFPs was significantly influenced by age,sex,household size,main occupation,distance to forest and ***:The findings suggest that NTFPs play an important role in supporting livelihoods,and therefore provide an important safety net for households throughout the year particularly during periods of hardship occasioned by *** is suggested that stakeholders should prioritize technical and financial support programs on agricultural value addition and handcrafts that would promote off-farm income generating activities,in addition,provision of alternative domestic cooking energy such as biogas in communities proximate to FGR in order to reduce pressure relating to fuelwood gathering from the forest,this will help to improve forest resources quality.

The aim of this study was to assess Acacia senegal trees’ characteristics as well as evaluate the carbon stock under a variety of ages in the El Demokeya forest in Sudan, where the Gum Arabic belt is located. 12 sample plots, in 2021 were randomly distributed to represent the entire area of the forest prior to the required measurements. The sample was designed as squire plots with one hectare. In each sample plot, all trees were counted, their height (m), and Diameters Breast Height (DBH in cm), respectively. The results showed the highest number of trees per ha at age 20 years old and the lowest number at age 47 years, while the highest values of DBH and volume were found at age 47 years old. As a result, the maximum and minimum values of the aboveground biomass were found in the age 47 years old and 16 years, accounting for 19.87 tons and 1.9 tons respectively. Thus, the amount of carbon stock was 11.92 tons/ha in the 35-years-old and 1.19 tons/ha in the 21-year stands. Furthermore, the average carbon stock in all plots was estimated as 18.70 tons/ha and hence the total carbon stock in the El Demokeya forest is equal to 620.11 tons. Conclusively, the characteristics of trees, amount of aboveground biomass and carbon stock in the El Demokeya forest varied among the uneven-aged plantation groups. The study recommends and encourages the protection of A. senegal in order to increase the carbon sink as well as protect the environment in the era of climatic changes.

Reformulation of Relativistic Quantum Field Theory Using Region-Like Idealization of the Elementary Particle

The existence of any elementary particle in universe requires the existence of some region of universe occupied by it. By taking the volume of this occupied region, the author will reformulate the relativistic quantum field theory using new 3-dimensional region-like idealization of elementary particles and hereinafter will call the total volume of all regions occupied by the elementary constituent particles of the quantum system the occupied volume. Also the author will call the set of all regions of universe filled by elementary constituent particles of the quantum system the occupied path. Always any quantum system is existed at a head of its occupied path. This path is growing by mutual filling and leaving regions of universe by its elementary constituent particles. The conservation of this elementary constituent particle requires the conservation of its occupied volume during this process. This requirement could be summarized by the following conditions: 1) the total volume of all regions of universe filled by the elementary constituent particles of the quantum system minus the total volume of all regions of universe left by these elementary constituent particles must be equal to the occupied volume of the quantum system;2) the total increase in the occupied volume of the quantum system due to the absorption of another elementary particles from outside its occupied regions minus the total decreasing in its occupied volume due to the emission of another elementary particles outside its occupied regions must be equal to the occupied volume of it. The wave-particle duality of the elementary constituent particles implied accumulation of them as the finite set of interfered waves. This accumulation of elementary constituent particles causes the absolute probabilistic nature of event of finding the elementary consistent particle in specified interfered wave, and hence the mathematical representation of this interfered wave should take into account the value of probabi

Effect of In-Service Training Program on the Practice of Healthcare Workers toward Malaria Prevention and Treatment Guidelines during Pregnancy in Health Facilities in Jowhar District, Somalia

Malaria is generally considered a major public health problem in Somalia. Providing early diagnosis and effective treatment is the key element of malaria control strategies in malaria-endemic countries, including Somalia. This required to advocate and ensure health worker’s adherence to the national malaria guidelines at all levels of health care service. A well-designed in-service training program may improve the level of health worker’s adherence to national malaria treatment guidelines, although results have been inconsistent. This is an interventional health facility-based pre and post comparative study aimed to assess the effect of an in-service training program on the practice of healthcare workers toward malaria prevention and treatment guidelines, during in pregnancy in health facilities in Jowhar district, Middle Shabelle region of Somalia. The study was implemented in three phases: pre-intervention phase, intervention phase and post-intervention phase. The sample size consisted of (n = 150) health workers who were selected from ten public health facilities using proportional to size sampling;the data collection adopted in this research is composed of a structured interview questionnaire and observational checklist. Data was analyzed through the application of descriptive statistical analysis that includes frequency and percentage and the Chi-square (x2) test was used to test the associations among variables using SPSS software version 25. The study showed that the level of health workers’ awareness of the national malaria guidelines in the treatment and prevention of malaria in pregnancy was found to be good before the intervention 89 (59.3%) and this proportion increased to 150 (100%) post-intervention of the training program. Performance of Concrete with Fly Ash and Kaolin Inclusion

Waste materials of environmental risks, costly landfill disposal can be utilized in cement and concrete applications. Partial replacement of cement in engineering projects reduces the cost of construction with ecological benefits. The type and mix ratio affects the strength and workability of cement-concrete matrices. This research deals with the replacement of Class F fly ash and kaolin with cement used in concrete. Replacement of 10% fly ash with cement improves the comprehensive strength of concrete in 28 days period, and the workability is increased by 53.8%. The kaolin replacement reduced both the strength and workability of concrete.

Factors Affecting Adherence to National Malaria Treatment Guidelines in the Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention of Malaria in Pregnancy among Healthcare Workers in Public Health Facilities in Jowhar District, Somalia

Introduction: Early diagnosis and effective treatment remain critical elements of a malaria control strategy in preventing mortality and reducing the incidence of severe malaria illness in Somalia. In Sub-Saharan African countries showed different levels of adherence to their national malaria guidelines for malaria treatment and prevention in pregnancy, while experiences from many countries indicated several challenges and constraints that may make the implementation of the guidelines difficult. Objective: The study aimed to assess factors affecting adherence to revised national malaria treatment guidelines in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of malaria in pregnancy among health care workers in public health facilities in Jowhar District, Somalia. Methodology: A cross-sectional health facility-based study conducted in Jowhar district. A structured interview questionnaire was used for data collection from (n = 150). Healthcare workers selected from ten public health facilities using proportional to size sampling and an observational checklist was used to assess patient’s medical prescriptions to review their conformity to the guidelines and the availability of antimalarial drug, malaria diagnostic tests (mRDTs and microscopy) and job aids, such as the national malaria treatment guidelines, clinical algorithm (flow chart), malaria rapid diagnosis tests mRDTs’ use of wall charts, and drug dose wall charts at the facilities. Data was analyzed through the application of descriptive statistical analysis that includes frequency, and percentages by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 25. Results: Healthcare workers interviewed were 89 (59.3%) aware of the existence of the revised national malaria treatment guidelines. However, 61 (40.7%) were not aware of the guidelines and only 46 (30.7%) had been trained for the national malaria guidelines in the treatment and prevention of malaria in pregnancy. A Complete Field of Meromorphic Function

In any completely close complex field C, generalized transcendental meromorphic functions may have some new properties. It is well known that a meromorphic function of characteristic zero is a rational function. This paper introduced some mathematical properties of the transcendental meromorphic function, which is generalized to the meromorphic function by multiplying and differentiating the generalized meromorphic function. The analysis shows that the difference between any non-zero constant and the derivative of the general meromorphic function has an infinite zero. In addition, for any natural number n, there are no practically exceptional values for the multiplication of the general meromorphic function and its derivative to the power of n.

Occult Hepatitis B Virus Infection: A Killer Hidden in Transfused Blood, Sudan

Introduction: Transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV) through the blood is a significant risk, especially in poor countries with high endemicity. Occult transmission of HBV (OBI) is an important acquisition scenario. Objective: A cross-sectional laboratory-based study followed to detect OBI in blood of accepted donors admitted to Mad Medani Blood Bank, Sudan. Methods: During the study, 200 accepted blood units were examined for HBsAg by ELISA technique and negative samples were tested for total anti-HBc antibodies using electroluminescence immunoassay (ECLIAS). HBV DNA amplification was performed for units that showed total anti-Hbc positivity. Results: Of the 200 blood units, 3 appeared positive by ELISA. Total anti-HBc antibodies were present in 34% (67/197) of blood units. HBV DNA was successfully amplified in 52.2% (35/67) of total anti-HBc positive samples. A significant association was observed between reactive total anti-HBc and age group (p Conclusion: OBI was recorded at a high rate in the blood of donors, which necessitates the implementation of detection methods to protect the recipients.
