The date clam, Lithophaga lithophaga is a popular edible bivalve. It was collected from three different locations (abo-Quir, Miami and El-Mex) along the coast of Alexandria-Egypt to determine the effect of two heavy metals as copper (Cu) and cadmium (Cd). The three organs were selected: gill, mantle and digestive gland. The enzymatic change is correlated with the concentration of metals. The present results suggest that Miami water is less polluted with Cu and Cd as compared to the two other locations. The physicochemical parameters are not significant among the three locations. Water of Abu-Quir and El-Max may be hazardous to bivalves. The order of levels of Cu and Cd was: gill > digestive gland > mantle. The present study illustrated that, in Abu Quir, there was a high positive correlation between Cd and Succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) as r = 0.969 whereas Cu and SDH as r = -0.91.

There has been an increasing interest in marine oysters (order: Petridae) in recent years because their numbers are declining in many parts of the world and also because they are used as monitors of pollution. The present study describes the microscopic structure of gills as viewed by light and electron microscopy in two locations selected in Alexandria coast, Eastern Harbor (E.H.) and El Asafra. The specimens in the E.H. represent the presence of extracellular mineralized granules.

Two new miniature metallic sealed-cells containing the triple point of water, WTP （273.16 K） and the triple point of mercury, HgTP （234.3156 K） have been constructed for the realization of the International Temperature Scale of 1990 （ITS-90） at the National Institute of Standards （NIS-Egypt）. The two new cells, in addition to a previously realized argon and oxygen triple point cells, will provide facilities for the calibration of capsule-type standard platinum resistance thermometers （CSPRTs） at one single run. Many phase transition plateaux were carried out and compared to the laboratory large reference cells using the same thermometers in order to test the performance of the new cell.

Background: The discovery of miRNAs circulating in the peripheral blood has opened new directions of research to identify new non-invasive markers for diagnosis of diseases. Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the expression levels of circulating plasma miRNAs (miRNA-21 & miRNA-122) in Egyptian patients with chronic uncomplicated and complicated HCV. Patients & Methods: This study was conducted on 60 Chronic HCV infected patients. Patients were divided into three groups (20 patients each): uncomplicated HCV, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). All patients were subjected to laboratory investigations including complete blood picture, liver function tests. Expression levels of miRNA-21 and -122 in plasma using RT-PCR were determined. Results: MiRNA-21 showed significant fold increase in chronic uncomplicated HCV while significant fold decrease in cirrhotic and HCC groups (P = 0.036). On the other hand, miRNA-122 showed significant fold elevation in both chronic uncomplicated and cirrhotic groups and significant fold decrease in HCC group (P = 0.005). ROC curve analysis for miRNA-122 yielded 68.4% sensitivity and 100% specificity for the differentiation of HCC patients from non-HCC at a cutoff 0.184. Neither miRNA-21 nor miRNA-122 was a successful predictor for HCC diagnosis. Conclusion: MiRNA-122 can be used as novel non-invasive biomarker for monitoring HCV related disease progression.

Objective:To investigate the prophylactic efficacy of date palm fruit extract against doxorubicin-induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar albino ***:The rats were equally and randomly assigned to 6 groups:group 1(untreated control),group 2 and 3 given daily oral administration of prophylactic aqueous extract of date palm fruit at 0.75 and 1.5 mg/kg body weight,respectively,and group 4,5 and 6 intraperitoneally injected with doxorubicin at 15 mg/kg on day *** in group 5 and 6 received daily oral administration of aqueous extract of date palm fruit at 0.75 and 1.5 mg/kg body weight,respectively,for 30 *** phytochemicals identified by GC-MS analysis were analyzed using in silico *** enzymes,liver enzymatic,biochemical parameters and histopathological analysis were determined to evaluate hepatoprotective activity of date ***:Aqueous extract of date palm fruit significantly mitigated doxorubicin-induced changes in activities of liver enzymes,reduced reactive oxygen species levels,and suppressed lipid peroxidation and DNA ***,aqueous extract of date palm fruit reduced doxorubicin-induced hepatic *** docking studies showed that most compounds of aqueous extract of date palm fruit identified via GC-MS had good interaction with proteins of human pregnane X receptor,oxygenase-1,and ***:The aqueous extract of date palm fruit mitigates doxorubicin-mediated DNA damage and hepatotoxicity,and restores normal liver function and may be a promising agent against the deleterious effects of doxorubicin.

Many wireless applications are deployed and available to customers via their mobile phones. Variety of these applications and services are based on determination of the current or future location of mobile user. Location based services (LBS) are one of the vital applications which are subdivided into two main categories: economical category and public category. Economic applications include mobile marketing, entertainment and tracking applications. Whereas, emergency cases, safety, traffic management, Muslims’ applications and public information applications are sort of public applications. The first part of the paper presents a new proposed system with developed procedure to recreate public and economic applications with high positioning accuracy and good authentication of users’ data. The developed system is created to enhance both location based services and network allocation resources within mobile network platform using either normal or GPS supported mobile equipment. The second part of the paper introduces future location prediction of mobile user dependent applications. New algorithm is developed depending on utilizing both intra-cell Movement Pattern algorithm (ICMP) [1] and hybrid uplink time Difference of Arrival and Assisted GPS technique (UTDOA_AGPS) [2]. It has been noticed that ICMP algorithm outperforms other future location prediction algorithms with high precision and within suitable time (less than 220) msec. However, UTDOA_AGPS guarantees high precession of mobile user independent of the surrounding environment. The proposed technique is used to enhance reliability and efficiency of location based services using cellular network platform.

Edge detection is the process of determining where boundaries of objects fall within an image. So far, several standard operators-based methods have been widely used for edge detection. However, due to inherent quality of images, these methods prove ineffective if they are applied without any preprocessing. In this paper, an image preprocessing approach has been adopted in order to get certain parameters that are useful to perform better edge detection with the standard operators-based edge detection methods. The proposed preprocessing approach involves computation of the histogram, finding out the total number of peaks and suppressing irrelevant peaks. From the intensity values corresponding to relevant peaks, threshold values are obtained. From these threshold values, optimal multilevel thresholds are calculated using the Otsu method, then multilevel image segmentation is carried out. Finally, a standard edge detection method can be applied to the resultant segmented image. Simulation results are presented to show that our preprocessed approach when used with a standard edge detection method enhances its performance. It has been also shown that applying wavelet edge detection method to the segmented images, generated through our preprocessing approach, yields the superior performance among other standard edge detection methods.

A hybrid positioning system is merely one in which multiple systems are used for positioning purposes. This virtually always, though not necessarily, includes Global Positioning System (GPS) as it is the only global positioning network currently. Combination of mobile network and GPS positioning techniques provide a higher accuracy of mobile location than positions based on a standalone GPS or mobile network based positions. High accuracy of mobile position is mainly essential for emergency, military and many other location based services such as productivity enhancement, entertainment, position-based advertising, navigation, asset management and geographic information access. Assisted GPS, also known as A-GPS or AGPS, enhances the performance of the standard GPS in devices connected to the cellular network. This paper introduces a new hybrid technique for mobile location determination utilizing Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) network, Mobile Station (MS) and GPS positioning characteristics. Different positioning techniques are chosen according to positioning parameters. The minimum required number of UMTS base stations, location measurement units and GPS satellites are calculated in this paper. The required number of GPS satellites is reduced from four satellites to three ones while using three dimension positioning and from three satellites to two ones at two dimension positioning. Moreover, MS receiver main functions including both network and GPS received paths to achieve output assisted data are discussed. In this paper many drawbacks such as indoor positioning, receiver high power consumption, delay in first time to fix position, low position accuracy as well as large number of required satellites and base stations are improved.

In this study, the adsorption behavior of copper(II) ions from aqueous solutions onto sesame husk (SH) was investigated. The effect of different parameters such as pH, contact time, adsorbent dosage, adsorbate concentration, temperature and agitation speed was studied. Thermodynamic parameters, equilibrium isotherms and kinetic data have been evaluated. The functional groups and surface morphology of SH adsorbent were characterized by FTIR and SEM. Adsorption equilibrium isotherms were expressed by Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) adsorption models and it was found that Langmuir adsorption model fits the experimental data better than Freundlich and D-R models. The adsorption can be best described by the pseudo second-order kinetic model.
