Mapping Structurally Controlled Alterations Sparked by Hydrothermal Activity in the Fatira–Abu Zawal Area,Eastern Desert,Egypt

The Eastern Desert of Egypt suffered a protracted period of deformation triggered by cratonization of the new juvenile crust known as the Arabian Nubian Shield(ANS),which has been proposed for potential gold discoveries associated with the corresponding tectonic event.The Fatira area,on the border of Egypt’s Northern and Central Eastern Deserts,is covered with metavolcanic rocks twisted by a dextral relocation of the Fatira Shear Zone(FSZ)relative to the Barud magmatic body.The recent study evaluated many deformed post-orogenic granitic intrusions and felsite dikes associated with promising mineralization localities,notably orogenic gold deposits.The combination of various field observations and remote sensing data,followed by the analysis of aeromagnetic enhanced maps,allowed the differentiation of distinct lithologies,structural features,and hydrothermal alterations in the study area.Additionally,the integrated results obtained from the different interpretation techniques are utilized to identify and confirm the previously supposed mineralized localities in the Fatira and Abu Zawal areas and predict other matched localities.The final ASTER,Sentinel 2 hydrothermal alteration,and orientation entropy heat maps demonstrate the association between these mineralized regions and major structures related to the FSZ late stage of deformation rather than other structures studied throughout the area of interest.

Study of Aerosol Direct and Indirect Effects and Auto-conversion Processes over the West African Monsoon Region Using a Regional Climate Model

This study assesses the direct and indirect effects of natural and anthropogenic aerosols （e.g., black carbon and sulfate） over West and Central Africa during the West African monsoon （WAM） period （June-July-August）. We investigate the impacts of aerosols on the amount of cloudiness, the influences on the precipitation efficiency of clouds, and the associated radiative forcing （direct and indirect）. Our study includes the implementation of three new formulations of auto-conversion parameterization [namely, the Beheng （BH）, Tripoli and Cotton （TC） and Liu and Daum （R6） schemes] in RegCM4.4.1, besides the default model＇s auto-conversion scheme （Kessler）. Among the new schemes, BH reduces the precipitation wet bias by more than 50% over West Africa and achieves a bias reduction of around 25% over Central Africa. Results from detailed sensitivity experiments suggest a significant path forward in terms of addressing the long-standing issue of the characteristic wet bias in RegCM. In terms of aerosol-induced radiative forcing, the impact of the various schemes is found to vary considerably （ranging from -5 to -25 W m-2）.

Sarcoidosis is a non caseating granulomatous disease of unknown etiology. Many factors may be attributed to the occurrence of that granuloma including the chemical factors. We present this case aiming to highlight Synthol injection which is chemical substance frequently used by athletics to increase their muscle size as it can trigger the occurrence of musculocutanous sarcoidosis. In conclusion Synthol should be added to the chemical list which can induce musculocutanous sarcoidosis.

Background Acute kidney injury(AKI)is common in critically ill children with significant mortality and morbidity.Serum creatinine is an insensitive and late biomarker compared to newly proposed AKI biomarkers.Methods Prospective study in pediatric intensive care unit(PICU)over three months to compare between serum cystatin-C(s-Cys-C)and urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin(uNGAL)as AKI biomarkers at multiple time points with pediatric risk,injury,failure,loss,end-stage renal disease(pRIFLE)classification in diagnosing AKI.Results Forty children were recruited.Of these 40 children,22 developed AKI according to pRIFLE criteria.There was no significant difference between AKI and non-AKI in age(P=0.29).Post cardiac surgery,renal insult was the main cause of AKI(27.3%).There was a twofold increased risk of incident AKI in those patients with high baseline uNGAL at PICU admission and almost a fourfold increased risk in patients with high baseline s-Cys-C at PICU admission.uNGAL levels were highly predictive of AKI during the follow-up period[area under the curve(AUC)=0.76,95%confidence interval(CI)0.61-0.92].The cutoff point with the highest correctly classified proportion was 223 ng/mL(≥12 centiles)which correctly predict 80.0%patients with AKI,with a corresponding sensitivity of 72.7%and a specificity of 89.9%.AUC for s-Cys-C was 0.86(95%CI 0.75-0.97),and the highest correctly classified proportion was 1009μg/L(≥13 centiles);75%of patients with AKI,with a corresponding sensitivity of 63.6%and a specificity of 88.9%.Conclusion uNGAL and s-Cys-C predicts AKI early in critically ill children.

Evaluation of Geological Hazards for Landuse Planning in Nabq Protectorate, Southeastern Sinai Using GIS Techniques

Nabq protectorate is one of wonderful natural places in Egypt. It is characterized by diversity of bio-lives such as mangrove forests, coral colonies, wild life plants and migratory birds. Ongoing growth of tourism industries at Sharm El Sheikh northward into the Nabq protectorate causes severe hazards on its natural resources. The aim of the present study is to assess the present geo-environmental hazards in the Nabq protectorate. Assessment includes the analysis of satellite images, topographical, geological and other ancillary geological data using GIS technology. GIS data analyses indicate that the area is under threat from some of geo-hazards. Rough topography and mass wasting with high probability of flash flooding threaten different constructions in this area. The mobilization of coastal sand dunes, wave action and tidal currents are natural impacts on Nabq ecosystems, where moved dunes leave clay soils that are removed in some places by tropical storms increasing sea water turbidity that threaten the corals and other living organisms in the tidal flat region. The seismic activity hazard in the study area is usually active on lineaments extending parallel to the trend of the Gulf of Aqaba-Dead Sea transform fault where the Nabq protectorate occupies its southern segment. Unwise planning activities destroy the natural environmental resources in Nabq area by construction of new resorts on mangrove forests, coral colonies and raised beaches. Hazard assessment identifies land suitability and land use maps that are clearly exhibit models of traditional dams and buffer strips on coastal zone and highways as well as around the Bedouin communities which are worked on tourism and fishing. These maps are urgent in need of an assessment and rehabilitation program to mitigate geo-hazard.

An interesting approach for the design of anti-allergies is rationally considered. It was proved that current anti-allergic drugs comprise piperazine and acrylic acid segments. In harmony with these findings, new products 5a-u were synthesized starting from conjugated 2-thiopheneacrylic acid with amino acid esters3a-g followed by coupling of their acid derivatives4a-g with some piperazine segments, with the aim to increase their biological activities and decrease side effects. The anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory activities of the products were evaluated and promising results were obtained.

Alhagi maurorum aqueous extract protects against norfloxacin-induced hepato-nephrotoxicity in rats

Objectives:While the protective effects of Alhagi maurorum have been shown against various ailments,its role against norfloxacin-induced adverse effects has not been studied.The current study was conducted to determine the effect of A.maurorum aqueous extract against norfloxacin-induced side effects in rats.Methods:Twenty-four male albino rats were randomly assigned into four groups,which received normal saline,norfloxacin(50 mg/kg b.wt orally once a day),A.maurorum aqueous extract(300 mg/kg b.wt orally once a day),and norfloxacin with A.maurorum aqueous extract by the same previous mentioned dosages.Blood samples were collected for hematological examination to evaluate liver and kidney function tests.Hepatic and renal tissue samples were obtained to assess antioxidant activity and histopathological examination.Results:A.maurorum aqueous extract significantly ameliorated norfloxacin-induced elevation in tissue malondialdehyde,and reduction in tissue antioxidant enzymes such as catalase,glutathione peroxidase,and superoxide dismutase activities as well as reduced glutathione concentration.Concurrent administration of A.maurorum aqueous extract with norfloxacin significantly reduced serum alkaline phosphatase,aminotransferases,urea,creatinine,and uric acid and increased RBCs count,Hb concentration,PCV,leucocyte,and monocyte counts compared with the norfloxacin-treated group.Co-administration of A.maurorum aqueous extract with norfloxacin prevented the degenerative changes induced by norfloxacin alone in liver and kidney tissues.The phytochemical profile of the extract showed the presence of carbohydrates,alkaloids,saponins,tannins,phenolics,and flavonoids.Conclusion:These findings indicated that A.maurorum possesses potent antioxidant activities and could be used to attenuate norfloxacin-induced side effects.

Functional evaluation of the filtering bleb by ultrasound biomicroscopy after trabeculectomy with mitomycin C

AIM： To study the role of ultrasound biomicroscopy（UBM） in the assessment of the bleb function after trabeculectomy with mitomycin C（MMC）. METHODS： This was a cross-sectional study including all cases had undergone trabeculectomy with MMC 0.2 mg/mL for 3 min. Participants were recruited from the follow-up cases at Department of Ophthalmology, Tanta University in the period from August 2015 to August 2016. Full history taking and ophthalmological examination were performed. Intraocular pressure（IOP） was measured using Goldmann applanation tonometry and the history of prescribed postoperative antiglaucoma medications was recorded. Accordingly, the trabeculectomy blebs were divided clinically into successful blebs when the IOP post-operative was ≤18 mmHg without medications. Scanning examination of the filtering bleb using UBM examination was performed at the period from 2 to 36 mo after trabeculectomy（13.6±9.7 m o）. RESULTS： This study included 33 trabeculectomy filtering blebs of 25 patients（9 males and 16 females）. The mean age of patients was 53.2±14.2 y（range 25-71y）. We had 20 eyes with complete success, 9 eyes with qualified success, and 4 eyes with failure after trabeculectomy with MMC. The blebs were classified into successful blebs（IOP ≤18 mmHg without antiglaucoma medications）, others were classified into qualified successful and failed blebs. There was a significant correlation between certain UBM findings（intra-bleb reflectivity, draining sub-scleral tract, bleb height, and intrableb fluid cysts） and cases with different grades of clinical functional success（P〈0.01）.CONCLUSION： UBM is an objective tool in the functional assessment of the post-trabeculectomy filtering bleb through a significant correlation between certain UBM parameters and the different grades of clinical functional success.

Appropriate knowledge of the parental cultivars is a pre-requisite for a successful breeding program.This study characterized fruit yield,quality attributes,and molecular variations of ten tomato cultivars during three consecutive generations under greenhouse conditions.Peto 86,Castle Rock,and Red Star cultivars showed the highest fruit yield(kg/plant),total phenolic compounds(TPC),and sap acidity.Principal component analysis categorized the evaluated fruit yield into three groups based on their quality attributes.A robust positive correlation appeared among traits inside each group.A positive correlation was likewise noticed between the first and the second groups.However,a negative correlation was detected between the first,the second and the third group.Molecular profiling,using seven inter-simple sequence repeat(ISSR)primers,produced 60 loci,including 49 polymorphic loci.The molecular analysis also pinpointed the highest genetic similarity(0.92)between P73 and Moneymaker,while the lowest genetic similarity(0.46)was observed between Castle Rock and Moneymaker.The cultivars P73 and Moneymaker showed the lowest genetic distance(2.24),while the highest genetic distance(5.92)was observed between Super Marmand and Peto86,on the one hand,and between Castle Rock and Moneymaker,on the other hand.The chemical analysis of fruit sap indicated the highest levels of TPC,total flavonoids,anthocyanin,ascorbic acid and total soluble solids in Peto 86 and Castle Rock cultivars.Phylogeny analysis of tomato cultivars based on morphological and molecular attributes indicated four distinct clades.Peto 86,Castle Rock,and Red star cultivars can be recommended for the tomato hybridization breeding programs in the future,with other tomato cultivars as potentially high-yielding parents.
