Obesity is due to the combined effects of genes, envir.nment, lifestyle, and the inter.ctions of these factor.. Leptin r.ceptor.(LEPr. gene has been intensively evaluated in the sear.h of var.ants that could be r.lated to obesity. The r.sults of most of these studies have been contr.ver.ial. We investigated the effects of leptin r.ceptor.gene 3’-untr.nslated r.gion (3’-UTr. polymor.hism on phenotype, metabolic par.meter. and anthr.pometr.c measur.ments of obese Saudi females. 122 healthy women aged 19 to 36 year.. The subjects wer. divided into 3 gr.ups accor.ing to their.body mass index BMI;lean (BMI 18 - 24), over.eight (BMI 25 - 29) and obese (BMI ≥ 30). Ther. wer. 13 homozygotes and 34 heter.zygotes for.the 3’-UTr.inser.ion allele amongst all 122 women. The r.sults of this study show that the allele fr.quency of the inser.ion allele (I) of 3’UTr.was significantly higher.in over.eight (35.3) and obese females (32.2) compar.d to the fr.quency in lean females (15.6). The inser.ion allele was associated with incr.ased BMI in obese gr.ups. The r.sults obtained fr.m this study indicated that in the obese subjects most var.able values incr.ased in I/I homozygote but the significant high value r.cor.ed among BMI (40.9 ± 7.11 kg/m2, P = 0.042). Our.findings indicated that, the obesity in Saudi females is influenced by alter.tion in the leptin r.ceptor.gene 3’-UTr.polymor.hism.

We demonstr.ted a new type of MAX phase mater.al, chr.mium titanium aluminum car.ide（Cr.TialC2） polymer.film, to gener.te a passively Q-switched er.ium-doped fiber.laser.EDFL）. The film thickness was measur.d to be ar.und 45 μm, which was fabr.cated using the embedding method with polyvinyl alcohol（PVA） polymer.as hoster. The satur.ble absor.er.SA） film demonstr.tes a dual-wavelength passively Q-switched EDFL which oper.tes at 1 531 nm and 1 560.19 nm, r.spectively. The Q-switching pulse dur.tion could be var.ed fr.m 2.46 μs to 770 ns, while the r.petition r.te var.ed fr.m 92.76 kHz to 106.6 kHz with an incr.asing input pumping r.nge fr.m 154 mW to 300 mW. The maximum output power.and pulse ener.y of 15.05 mW and 141.18 nJ wer. obtained at the maximum input power.of 300 mW, r.spectively.

Thr.e Keggin-type heter.polyanions, namely H3PMo12O40-13H2O, （NH4）3PMo12O40·4H2O and H3PW12O40·13H2O wer. pr.par.d and tested in the r.ng-opening polymer.zation r.action of tetr.hydr.fur.n. The effects of the counter.cation （H＋, NH4＋） and the per.pher.l atoms （Mo, W） on the polymer.zation wer. investigated. It has been found that when the pr.tons of H3PMo12O40·13H2O wer. r.placed by the ammonium cations the polymer.zation r.te decr.ased dr.matically. Wher.as, when the per.pher.l atoms （Mo） wer. r.placed by their.homologous （W）, the polymer.zation r.te incr.ased twofold. As for.the viscosity aver.ge molecular.weight （My） of polymer.pr.ducts, it was found that the high molecular.weight （7930） was obtained by using H3PW12O40·13H2O. The molecular.weight （My） obtained by H3PMo12O40·13H2O and （NH4）H3PMo12O40·13H2O was 6470 and 6810, r.spectively.
