The objective of this work is to present a boundary integral formulation for the static, linear plane strain problem of uncoupled magneto-elasticity for an infinite magnetizable cylinder in a transverse magnetic field. This formulation allows to obtain analytical solutions in closed form for problems with relatively simple geometries, in addition to being particularly well-adapted to numerical approaches for more complicated cases. As an application, the first fundamental problem of Elasticity for the circular cylinder is investigated.

In the last few years, interest in burnup calculations using Monte Carlo methods has increased. Previous burnup codes have used diffusion theory for the neutronic portion of the codes. Diffusion theory works well for most reactors. However, diffusion theory does not produce accurate results in burnup problems that include strong absorbers or large voids. MCNPX code based on Mont Carlo Method, is used to design a three dimensional model for a BWR fuel assembly in a typical operating temperature and pressure conditions. A test case was compared with a benchmark problem and good agreement was found. The model is used to calculate the distribution of pin by pin power and flux inside the assembly. The effect of axial variation of water （coolant） density, and of control rods motion on the neutron flux and power distribution is analyzed. The effect of addition of Gd2O3 to natural uranium （0.711%） on both the thermal neutron flux and normalized power are analyzed. The concentration of U^235, U^238, Pu^239, and its isotopes is also calculated at burn-up 50 GWD/T.

Hot Forging and Hot Pressing of AlSi Powder Compared to Conventional Powder Metallurgy Route

Aluminum silicon alloy of composition (Al-25%Si-3%Ni-1%Fe-2%Cu) was atomized using water atomization. The powders were cold compacted in a die to produce green cylinder compacts. Four consolidation processes were applied, namely;conventional sintering at 500℃, sintering followed by hot forging to obtain pistons, one step hot forging into pistons, and hot pressing. The microstructure of the sintered specimens showed inter-granular pores and oxide layers on particle interfaces of 84% relative density. When the sintered specimens were hot forged, both the inter-granular pores and oxide layers on particle interfaces almost disappeared and the relative densities increased up to about 95%. The same microstructure is also obtained for the one step forged specimens, but the relative densities increased to about 97%. However, the hot pressing specimens showed the presence of oxide layers on particle surfaces as well as few isolated pores. The relative density of the hot pressed specimens was about 90%. Hardness and ultimate compression strength were measured. It is noted that the strongest bulk materials are those made by hot forging, followed by those made by hot pressing and the weakest bulk materials are those made by conventional sintering.

Background This study aimed to develop an expert consensus regarding the epidemiology,diagnosis,and management of cow’s milk protein allergy(CMPA)in the Middle *** A three-step modified Delphi method was utilized to develop the *** specialized pediatricians participated in the development of this *** statement was considered a consensus if it achieved an agreement level of>80%.Results The experts agreed that the double-blind placebo-controlled oral challenge test(OCT)should be performed for 2-A weeks using an amino acid formula(AAF)in formula-fed infants or children with suspected ***-fed infants with confirmed CMPA should be offered a therapeutic *** panel stated that an extensively hydrolyzed formula(eHF)is indicated in the absence of red flag *** the same time,the AAF is offered for infants with red flag signs,such as severe anaphylactic *** panel agreed that infants on an eHF with resolved symptoms within 2-4 weeks should continue the eHF with particular attention to the growth and nutritional *** the other hand,an AAF should be considered for infants with persistent symptoms;the AAF should be continued if the symptoms resolve within 2-4 weeks,with particular attention to the growth and nutritional *** cases with no symptomatic improvements after the introduction of an *** measures should be *** panel developed a management algorithm,which achieved an agreement level of 90.9%.Conclusion This consensus document combined the best available evidence and clinical experience to optimize the management of CMPA in the Middle East.

Impact of the aqueous extract of dandelion, probiotic and their synbiotic on male lamb’s testicular histopathology relative to semen characteristics

This study aimed at investigating effects of dandelion/probiotic on the testis histology and semen characteristics of male lambs. Twelve prepuberal Noemi male lambs (2 ± 0.4-month-old and 20 ± 3.5 kg B.W) were randomly allocated into four groups. Animals in group 1 were controlled, orally given normal saline as the same schedule of treated animals. In group 2 animals were given daily oral 50 ml of an aqueous extract of dandelion leaves. In group 3 animals were given a daily 50 ml of cow’s milk probiotics, and in group 4 animals were given 50 ml of a 1:1 mixture (dandelion extract: probiotic). Animals were treated for 8 consecutive weeks. At puberty, semen ejaculates were collected weekly for further 10 weeks. Thereafter, animals were sacrificed and testicles were obtained, weighed and a histopathological study was performed on the testis. Results revealed that oral administration of the dandelion aqueous extract to prepuberal lambs exhibited disturbances in the histological architecture of the testicular semeniferous tubules. Additionally, dandelion resulted in edematic interstitial tissues with evident vaculations. These deteriorations were reflected in less spermatogenesis (i.e. less sperm concentration and ejaculate volume by 10% and 20%, respectively than controlled group). Also, the percentage of sperm progressive motility was lower (P < 0.05) and dead sperm was higher (P < 0.05) in rams given dandelion than control. Administration of probiotic hasn’t revealed a change in the seminiferous tubules architecture, however, very little vaculation with rare edema was observed. Administration of the synbiotic mixture revealed intermediate histopathological appearances. The highest sperm concentration, testosterone concentration and advanced motility were obtained when probiotic was administered. In conclusion, although dandelion cures some hepatic malfunctions in human, caution must be taken into consideration of the frequent ingestion of dandelion for its harmful eff

Steady State Simulation of a Novel Process for the Co-production of Vinyl Acetate and Acetic Acid

A new process for the co-production of vinyl acetate monomer and acetic acid from ethane feedstock was studied. Various configurations were proposed and simulation results were given for each case to optimize process variables. This new process offers an overall yield values above 70% with minimum separation steps involved and the possibility of utilities integration. The process does not involve any CO production, thus becoming environmentally more favorable. The initial capital investment of the proposed process is much lower compared to the conventional route.

L-Arginine Modulates Maternal Hormonal Profiles and Neonatal Traits during Two Stages of Pregnancy in Sheep

A 2 × 2 factorial arrangement was designed to test effects of supplementation of a low (L, 75 mg/kg BW) vs. high (H, 150 mg/kg BW) L-arginine given at early (first 56 days) vs. late (last 56 days) pregnancy on maternal hormones and neonatal traits. Thirty Najdi pregnant ewes were randomly allocated into 6 groups. Ewes in G1 and G2 served as controls (C), given 50 ml saline at either early (CE) or late (CL) pregnancy, respectively. G3 and G4 ewes in early pregnancy received low (LE) and high L-arginine (HE), respectively. G5 and G6 ewes in late pregnancy received low (LL) and high (HL) L-arginine, respectively. A weekly blood sample was collected from initiation of the treatment till parturition. Serum growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I), insulin, progesterone (P4) and estradiol 17 β (E2) profiles were determined. Neonatal traits were also determined. Insulin was higher (P 0.05). Lamb survival rates at birth in LE ewes were highest (100%) compared to other treatments. In conclusion, supplementing pregnant ewes with low dosage of L-arginine at early stage of gestation increased lamb birth weight and survival, and improved maternal health.

Knowledge and Awareness of Breast Cancer among Young Women in the United Arab Emirates

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer among females in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It carries poor prognosis when detected late. Patients usually present at late stages due to lack of awareness of various aspects of breast cancer. Aim: The objective of this study is to gain insight into the level of knowledge of breast cancer among young adult females in UAE. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among females aged 25 to 45. A total of 492 females were selected using a convenience sampling method. Data were collected through an interview-based questionnaire. Frequency distributions and percentages were used to describe the knowledge tested within the questionnaire. Results: The mean age of the participants was 33.5 years. Almost 27% of our participants received a high school degree. The average total knowledge of our population was 51%. The majority (89%) knew that breast cancer is common and 45% knew that it affects ages above forty. The knowledge of signs and symptoms was 53%, and more than half (57%) knew that the most common presenting sign is a breast lump. The knowledge of risk factors was 43%. Almost 94% knew that cancer can be detected early, and 93% knew that early diagnosis improves outcome. The total knowledge of screening methods was 67%. Conclusion: The study revealed that respondents’ knowledge of breast cancer is less than expected. The increased burden of the disease should be accompanied by powerful means of spreading awareness by implementing campaigns that would improve knowledge deficits.

Hip firearm injuries are rare injuries that could lead to serious complications,such as posttraumatic hip arthritis and coloarticular *** report a case of a 25-year-old male who sustained a pelvic injury caused by a single bullet which led to a bilateral acetabular fracture,concomitant with a colon injury treated on an emergency basis by a diverting colostomy;acetabular fractures were treated conservatively by *** the patient recovered from the abdominal injury,he was presented with bilateral hip pain and limited motion;plain radiographs showed bilateral hip arthritis with proximal migration of the femoral head and bilateral acetabular defect classified as Paprosky type *** of the hips was performed using the same technique:impaction bone grafting for acetabular defect reconstruction and a reversed hybrid total hip arthroplasty(THA)6 months *** patient presented with loosening of the left THA acetabular cup 3 years later,which was revised;then he presented with a discharging sinus from the left THA with suspicion of coloarticular fistula,which was confirmed using CT with contrast material.A temporary colostomy and fistula excision were performed,and a cement spacer was applied to the *** clearing the infection,a final revision THA for the left hip was *** post-firearm hip arthritis by THA is challenging,especially in the situation of neglected cases with the presence of an acetabular *** intestinal injury increases the risk of infection with the possibility of coloarticular fistula formation,which could present *** with a multidisciplinary team is paramount.

In the medical field, new technologies are incorporated for the sole purpose of enhancing the quality of life for the patients and even for the normal healthy people. Infrared technology is one of the technologies that have some applications in both the medical and biological fields. In this work, the thermal infrared (IR) measurement is used to investigate the potential of skin cancer detection. IR enjoys non-invasive and non-contact advantages as well as favorable cost, apparently. It is also very well developed regarding the technological and methodological aspects. IR per se is an electro-metric radiation that all objects emit when their temperature is above the absolute zero. And the human body is not different in this regard. The IR range extends, ideally, to cover wavelengths from 800 nanometer to few hundred micrometer. Cancer, in modern life, has grown tangibly due to many factors, such as life expectancies increase, personal habits and ultraviolet radiation exposures among others. Moreover, the significant enhancement of technologies has helped identifying more types of cancers than before. The sole purpose of this work is to investigate further IR technology methods and applications not yet matured in skin cancer detection to enhance the detection ability with higher safety level.
