Molecular characterization of Cysticercus tenuicollis of slaughtered livestock in Upper Egypt governorates

Objective: To present the molecular characterization of Cysticercus tenuicollis(C. tenuicollis) of Taenia hydatigena(T. hydatigena) from livestock isolates in Egypt, and to introduce a detailed image of C. tenuicollis infection in ruminant animals in Upper ***: The prevalence rates of C. tenuicollis infections among the slaughtered animals from different organs were determined using the amplification of sequencing of the MT-CO1 ***: In the present study the infection rates of C. tenuicollis were found to be 16%and 19% in sheep and goat samples respectively. Firstly we report one larval stage of T. hydatigena detected in the camel liver in Egypt. C. tenuicollis infection manifested a higher prevalence in females than in males. Those above two years of age manifested a higher infection rate than younger animals. The preferred site for the infection was the omentum: a 70% preference in sheep and a 68% preference in goats. The molecular characterization using the MT-CO1 gene of isolates from sheep, goats and camels corresponded to T. hydatigena. For this study, molecular characterizations of T. hydatigena were done for the first time in Egypt. Molecular tools are of great assistance in characterizing the C. tenuicollis parasite especially when the morphological character cannot be detected, because the metacestodes are frequently confused with infection by the hydatid cyst, especially when these occur in the visceral organs. In the present study,C. tenuicollis manifested high identity in the goat and sheep samples, while differences were found more frequently in the camel samples(10 base pair).Conclusions: Clearly molecular diagnosis for C. tenuicollis infection significantly helps to differentiate it from such other metacestodes as hydatidosis, which manifests a completely different pathogenicity and requires different control programs.

AIM:To detect the quantitative expression levels of the pro-inflammatory interleukin-8(IL8),antimicrobial peptides human beta defense-2(HBD2),and human beta defense-3(HBD3)genes in bacterial ***:The human conjunctival epithelial cells were obtained using the impression cytology technique from healthy controls and *** genes expression levels were determined utilizing a reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction(RT-q PCR).The contribution of causative agent type,the number of isolates and severity of clinical features,in the increase of genes expression was also ***:The RT-q PCR showed that IL8,HBD2,and HBD3 expression increased in bacterial conjunctivitis as compared to healthy control(P<0.001).In gram-negative bacterial conjunctivitis,HBD2 was highly up-regulated(P<0.001)compared to other types of bacterial *** mixed bacterial conjunctivitis,a direct correlation between HBD2 up-regulation and HBD3 up-regulation was observed(P<0.05).The severity of clinical features was related to the up-regulation of IL8 and HBD2(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:IL8,HBD2,and HBD3 are immuneeffectors in infectious ***2 is active during different bacterial conjunctivitis but is more released with gram-negative bacteria compared to gram-positive ***3 is an obvious defender in different bacterial conjunctivitis.

Role of Vaginal Progesterone in Prevention of Preterm Labor in Women with Previous History of One or More Previous Preterm Births

Objective: To evaluate whether prophylactic administration of 200 mg vaginal progesterone can reduce the incidence of preterm birth in women with documented history of preterm birth Setting: Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Zagazig University Hospital, Egypt. Methods: Ninety patients with previous history of preterm birth prior to 37 week presenting with singleton pregnancy between 20 - 24 weeks were randomly allocated to receive either the progesterone 200 mg vaginal suppository or no treatment. Results: The incidence of preterm labor before 37 weeks of gestation was significantly lower in the study group than in the control group (22.2% vs. 53.3%) especially in earlier gestational ages. While, the mean birth weight was significantly higher in the study group than in control group (2872.67 ± 565.76 gm vs. 2487.78 ± 742.40 gm). The neonatal morbidities and mortality associated with preterm labor were significantly lower in the study group than in the control group as shown by lower incidence of neonatal RDS (13.3% vs. 31.1%;P = 0.043) and lower incidence of the need for NICU admission (15.6% vs. 35.5%;P = 0.03). Conclusion: Administration of prophylactic vaginal progesterone (200 mg, daily) can significantly reduce the rate of preterm birth before 37, 32 and 28 wks of gestation among women with previous spontaneous preterm birth. In addition, the rates of RDS and admission to NICU were significantly decreased among infants of women assigned to progesterone treatment. Also, there was an additional benefit of vaginal progesterone for prevention of preterm birth in women who had prior spontaneous preterm birth and cervical length 25 mm.

Molecular study on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from dogs and associated personnel in Jordan

Objective: To determine the prevalence, genetic relatedness, and pattern of antimicrobial susceptibility in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus)(MRSA) isolated from household dogs, farm dogs, and stray dogs, compared to isolates from their associated ***: MRSA was isolated from 250 nasal swabs(150 swabs from dogs and 100 swabs from humans). PCR assays were used to detect the presence of both the nuc and mec A genes,which con firmed the identity of S. aureus isolates and the presence of methicillin resistance,respectively. Disk diffusion was used to determine the antibiotic susceptibility against 15 antimicrobial agents along with an E-test that determined the minimum inhibitory concentration for oxacillin. Pulsed field gel electrophoresis was conducted to determine the genetic relatedness of MRSA isolates from dogs to those from associated and unassociated ***: The prevalence of S. aureus in dogs and humans was 12.7% and 10.0%respectively, while the prevalence of MRSA isolates in dogs and humans was 5.3% and5.0%, respectively. The prevalence of MRSA isolates in household dogs, farm dogs, and stray dogs was 7.8%, 4.7%, and 0.0%, respectively. MRSA isolates demonstrated a significantly higher rate of multi-resistance against three or more antimicrobial agents than methicillin-susceptible S. aureus(MSSA). Trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole and chloramphenicol were the most effective antibiotics against all MRSA isolates. Pulsed field gel electrophoresis revealed a strong association between dog MRSA isolates and MRSA isolates from strongly associated ***: MRSA is prevalent in house dogs, as well as in dog rearing centers and among their strongly associated personnel. A strong association was found between the MRSA isolates from dogs and those from humans who are in close contact. In addition,MRSA isolates showed a high rate of multi-resistance compared to MSSA isolates.

The chemical reactivity of novel stable triazene 3 toward some nucleophilic and electrophilic reagents was investigated. Traizene 3 was used as a key precursor for the synthesis of some novel important heterocyclic compounds such as Pyrazole, Isoxazole, Dihydropyrimidine, Tetrahydro-pyridine derivatives with expected antimicrobial activity. The synthesized compounds were obtained in good yields. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, 1H-NMR and Ms spectral data.

Social Media and the Public Policy Process in Egypt

For the past three years the political environment in Egypt, and the middle east in general, has undergone substantial change such as increase in public opinion and awareness, increase in political participation, increase in voting turnout franchise as well as introducing a new paradigm of communication which has great influence on the political and social landscape of the world ＂Social Media＂. The aim of this study is to explore the impact and effect of social media （Facebook） on the changing political environment of the public policy process in Egypt. This article analyzes the different stages of the Public Policy Process in Egypt, with application to the Minimum and Maximum Wage Policy, and examines how it was influenced by the Facebook, as a device of the social media, as a new channel of political mobilization.

Association of IL-17A and IL-17F Gene Polymorphisms with Acute Immune Thrombocytopenia in Egyptian Children

Background: IL-17 is an inflammatory cytokine that plays a crucial role in many autoimmune diseases. Aim: To investigate the association of IL-17A rs2275913 and IL-17F rs763780 gene polymorphisms with acute immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) in Egyptian children. Patients and methods: We examined 80 patients (male/female, 33/47;median age, 7 years old) diagnosed with acute ITP and 55 healthy controls (male/female, 28/27;median age, 7 years old). Genotyping was determined using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique. Results: In the acute ITP group compared to control, statistical analysis of the genotype frequencies (GG, AG, AA) of the IL-17A rs2275913 polymorphism and its alleles (A, G) showed no significant difference between the two groups (p > 0.05). Interestingly, the IL17A rs2275913 GG genotype was associated with early recovery (p = 0.04). As regard the genotype frequencies of the IL-17F rs763780 polymorphism, there was statistical significant difference in the TT and TC genotype frequencies between the case and control groups (p = 0.001 and p = 0.003, respectively). The number of IL-17F rs763780 T alleles was significantly higher in acute ITP patients as compared with children in the control group (p Conclusion: The present findings indicate that the IL-17 polymorphism IL-17F rs763780, but not IL-17A rs2275913 may be associated with a higher risk of acute ITP in Egyptian children.

Continuously Monitoring Foetal ECG using Mobile Telemedicine Sensor Network

Foetus ECG monitoring based on Bluetooth portable devices promise to provide an efficient, accurate, and economic way to monitor foetus health outside the hospital. In this paper we discuss a new idea in biomedical field may be useful for Medical services. The idea is deliver the status of patent to any location within the coverage of cellular networks, such as the global system for mobile (GSM) communications. Pregnancy women from a rural area just like rural in Sudan(where they haven’t transportation to a hospital), could be given a routine check by mobile phone without having to commute regularly to a hospital. Routine inspections and monitoring could be done while the pregnancy women is at home, traveling(nomadic), at work, or at leisure, thereby relieving resources for more demanding hospital cases. Advances in mobile technology have made wireless telemedicine more practical both within hospitals and globally. The Bluetooth system with low cost the poor women can use and also has low electromagnetic waves, it is healthy in use (no risk).
