Engineering nanomedicines for immunogenic eradication of cancer cells:Recent trends and synergistic approaches

Resistance to cancer immunotherapy is mainly attributed to poor tumor immunogenicity as well as the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment(TME)leading to failure of immune *** therapeutic strategies including chemotherapy,radiotherapy,photodynamic,photothermal,magnetic,chemodynamic,sonodynamic and oncolytic therapy,have been developed to induce immunogenic cell death(ICD)of cancer cells and thereby elicit immunogenicity and boost the antitumor immune ***,many challenges hamper the clinical application of ICD inducers resulting in modest immunogenic ***,we outline the current state of using nanomedicines for boosting ICD of cancer ***,synergistic approaches used in combination with ICD inducing nanomedicines for remodeling the TME via targeting immune checkpoints,phagocytosis,macrophage polarization,tumor hypoxia,autophagy and stromal modulation to enhance immunogenicity of dying cancer cells were *** further highlight the emerging trends of using nanomaterials for triggering amplified ICD-mediated antitumor immune *** reticulum localized ICD,focused ultrasound hyperthermia,cell membrane camouflaged nanomedicines,amplified reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation,metallo-immunotherapy,ion modulators and engineered bacteria are among the most innovative *** challenges,merits and demerits of ICD inducer nanomedicines were also discussed with shedding light on the future role of this technology in improving the outcomes of cancer immunotherapy.

BACKGROUND The treatment of late stages of Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease(LCPD)is *** the concept of femoral head containment is a well-established technique of treatment,its use remains debatable in the late stages of the disease,as it does not improve symptoms in terms of limb length discrepancy and *** To assess the results of subtrochanteric valgus osteotomy in symptomatic patients with late-stage Perthes *** From 2000 to 2007,36 symptomatic patients with late stage of Perthes disease were surgically treated with subtrochanteric valgus osteotomy and followed-up for 8 to 11 years using the IOWA score and range of motion(ROM)*** Mose classification was also assessed at the last follow-up to reflect possible *** patients were 8 years old or older at the time of surgery,in the post-fragmentation stage,and complaining of pain,limited ROM,Trendelenburg gait,and/or abductor *** The preoperative IOWA score(average:53.3)markedly improved at the 1-year post follow-up period(average:85.41)and then slightly improved at the last follow-up(average:89.4)(P value<0.05).ROM improved,with internal rotation increased on average by 22°(from 10°preoperatively to 32°postoperatively)and abduction increased on average by 15.9°(from 25°preoperatively to 41°postoperatively).The mean Mose deviation of femoral heads was 4.1 mm at the end of the follow-up *** tests used were the paired t-test and Pearson correlation test,where the level of significance was a P value less than *** Subtrochanteric valgus osteotomy can be a good option for symptomatic relief in patients with late-stage of LCPD.

Since the end of the 1990s,cryptosystems implemented on smart cards have had to deal with two main categories of attacks:side-channel attacks and fault injection *** have been developed and validated against these two types of attacks,taking into account a well-defined attacker *** work focuses on small vulnerabilities and countermeasures related to the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm(ECDSA)*** work done in this paper focuses on protecting the ECDSA algorithm against fault-injection *** precisely,we are interested in the countermeasures of scalar multiplication in the body of the elliptic curves to protect against attacks concerning only a few bits of secret may be sufficient to recover the private *** can be implemented in different ways,in software or via dedicated hardware or a mix of *** different architectures are therefore possible to implement an ECDSA-based *** this reason,this work focuses mainly on the hardware implementation of the digital signature *** addition,the proposed ECDSA architecture with and without fault detection for the scalar multiplication have been implemented on Xilinxfield programmable gate arrays(FPGA)platform(Virtex-5).Our implementation results have been compared and *** area,frequency,area overhead and frequency degradation have been compared and it is shown that the proposed architecture of ECDSA with fault detection for the scalar multiplication allows a trade-off between the hardware overhead and the security of the ECDSA.

Anterior lamellar recession for management of upper eyelid cicatricial entropion and associated eyelid abnormalities

AIM：To evaluate the functional and aesthetic outcomes of upper eyelid cicatricial entropion（UCE） correction using anterior lamellar recession（ALR） with addressing the associated conditions including dermatochalasis,brow ptosis,blepharoptosis,and lid ***：Chart review of patients with upper lid cicatricial entropion who had undergone ALR from 2013 to 2016 was *** was defi ned as the lack of any lash in contact with the globe,no need for a second procedure,and acceptable cosmesis at the fi nal follow ***：Sixty eight patients（97 eyelids） were operated by ALR with simultaneous correction of associated lid problems in each case when *** mean followup time was 17.8 mo（range,6.0-24.0 mo）.Concomitantly,levator tucking was performed in 19 eyelids（19.6%）,upper lid retractor recession in 18 eyelids（18.6%）,and internal browpexy in 31 eyelids（32.0%）.In 95.8% of patients（95%CI：0.85-0.96）,satisfactory functional and cosmetic outcome was achieved with a single surgical ***：Based on the principles of lamellar recession and concurrently addressing the associated lid problems,this approach is an effective and safe treatment of UCE.

Interrelationship between Toll-like receptors and infection after orthotopic liver transplantation

Early microbial recognition by the innate immune system is accomplished by Toll-like receptors(TLRs),with resultant initiation of a pro-inflammatory response against infecting *** spite of presence of an abundance of Toll-like receptors on the surface of the liver,gut bacteria does not elicit an inflammatory reaction in healthy individuals due to tolerance to these TLRs,suggesting that the inflammatory responses seen in the liver are the result of breakdown of this *** orthotopic liver transplantation is often life saving in many instances,death following this procedure is most commonly due to infection that occurs in up to 80%of transplant recipients,most commonly due to microbial causes in up to 70%of cases and viral infections in 20%,while fungal infections affect only 8%of *** probability of acquiring infection following hepatic transplantation is heightened due to affection of the innate immune defense mechanisms of the host following this *** nucleotide polymorphisms of TLRs have been associated with increased likelihood of either development of post-transplant infection or eradication of infecting ***,conflicting reports from other studies reveal that prevalence of this single nucleotide polymorphism is not increased in infected patients.

Etiological risk factors for subfertility among Palestinian women in Gaza

The inability to procreate is frequently considered a personal tragedy and a hardship for couples, impacting on the entire family and even the local community. In Gaza strip, Palestine, there has been no study on etiological risk factors for subfertility. The present study aimed to identify risk factors associated with subfertility among women in Gaza, Palestine. One hundred and sixty-nine women in the study group and 115 women in the control group were included. Cases were selected randomly from those referred to the A1 Basma Fertility Center, Gaza, Palestine. Data were collected through close-ended questionnaire, sonography, hormonal analysis and thrombophilia profile that included the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase （MTHFR 677 C 〉 T）, factor V leiden （1691 G 〉 A） and pro- thrombin （20210 G 〉 A） genes. By using univariate analyses, the effects of different patient-related variables on the presence of subfertility were evaluated. A multiple logistic regression model was constructed, crude and adjusted odds ratios （OR） and 95% confidence intervals （95% CI） were calculated. The findings showed that 73.5 % （169/230） of the women referred to the A1 Basma Center sought treatment for subfertility. Different etiological risk factors were associated with subfertility, the most frequent of which in descending order were： thrombophilic disorders, fallopian tube problems, sex hormone abnormalities and polycystic ovary syndrome with an adjusted OR of 21.42, 13.63, 11.69 and 10.29, respectively. In conclusion, several etiological risk factors are responsible for subfertility among women in Gaza. Comprehensive evaluation of infertile women should be considered in the course of treatment; otherwise, the duration of sterility may be extended.

A study of in vitro antibacterial activity of lanthanides complexes with a tetradentate Schiff base ligand

Objective:To establish the antibacterial activity of lanthanides complexes with a tetradentate Schiff base ligand ***:(N,N'-bis(l-naphthaldimine)-o-phenylenediamine)was prepared from the condensation of 2—hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde with o-phenylenediamine in a molar ratio of 2:*** antimicrobial activity of the resultant Ln(Ⅲ)complexes was investigated using agar well diffusion and micro-broth dilution techniques;the latter was used to establish the minimum inhibitory concentrations for each compound ***:Most of Ln(Ⅲ)complexes were found to exhibit antibacterial activities against a number of pathogenic bacteria with MICs ranging between 1.95-250.00μg/*** aureus was the most susceptible bacterial species to[LaL(NO_3)_2(H_2O)](NO_3)complex while Shigella dysenteriae and Escherichia coli required a relatively higher MIC(250μg/mL).Trie complexes La(Ⅲ)and Pr(Ⅲ)were effective inhibitors against Staphylococcus aureus,whereas Sm(Ⅲ)complex was effective against Serratia *** the other hand,Gd(Ⅲ),La(Ⅲ)and Nd(Ⅲ)were found to be more potent inhibitors against Pseudompnas aeruginosa than two of commonly used *** remaining Ln(Ⅲ)complexes showed no remarkable activity as compared to the two standard drugs ***:Tetradentate Schiff base ligand L and its complexes could be a potential antibacterial compounds after further investigation.

Influence of biomass density and food to microorganisms ratio on the mixed culture type I methanotrophs enriched from activated sludge

Methanotrophic based process can be the remedy to offset the wastewater treatment facilities increasing energy requirements due to methanotroph＇s unique ability to integrate methane assimilation with multiple biotechnological applications like biological nitrogen removal and methanol production. Regardless of the methanotrophic process end product, the challenge to maintain stable microbial growth in the methanotrophs cultivation bioreactor at higher cell densities is one of the major obstacles facing the process upscaling. Therefore, a series of consecutive batch tests were performed to attentively investigate the biomass density influence on type I methanotrophs bacterial growth. In addition, food to microorganisms（F/M）, carbon to nitrogen（C/N） and nitrogen to microorganisms（N/M） ratio effect on the microbial activity was studied for the first time. It was clarified that the F/M ratio is the most influencing factor on the microbial growth at higher biomass densities rather than the biomass density increase, whereas C/N and N/M ratio change, while using nitrate as the nitrogen source,does not influence methanotrophs microbial growth. These study results would facilitate the scaling up of methanotrophic based biotechnology by identifying that F/M ratio as the key parameter that influences methanotrophs cultivation at high biomass densities.

Seismic Vulnerability of Building Construction Site

Building construction site plays an important role in the economic aspect of a region. So any disruption due to hazard event like earthquake can cause several direct and indirect damages. Direct damages can lead to the loss of equipments and qualified persons. Indirect damages can lead to inflation and loss of purchasing power. To deal with that situation, parameters that govern the vulnerability of building construction site have been identified. Using a MCDM （multiple criteria decision making） method, the priority order of these parameters has been set. Then a PVI （partial vulnerability index） and a GVI （global vulnerability index） are proposed. These indexes allow the classification of building construction sites according to their intrinsic vulnerability and seismic vulnerability respectively that is through the use of a given classification. Several Algerian building construction sites belonging to different seismic zones were considered in order to show the applicability of the method.
