Investigation of Extracts from Tunisian Ethnomedicinal Plants as Antioxidants,Cytotoxins,and Antimicrobials

Objective To determine the medicinal potential of various plants and their parts extracted with different solvents. Methods The total phenolic content of acetonitrile/water（60%-40%）（ACN/W） and aqueous（W） extract fractions was determined by high-performance liquid chromatography（HPLC）, and terpenic compounds were detected by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry（GC/MS）. Antioxidant activity of the samples was evaluated using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl（DPPH） assay and β-carotene bleaching method. Cell viability was investigated by thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide [3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol）-2-yl 2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide]（MTT） assay. The mechanisms involved in cytotoxic activity were investigated in a murine macrophage cell line（RAW 264.7） and cancer lines. Results Our findings show that 11 plant species exhibited biological activity. In addition, moderate antibacterial activity was reported against one or more of the tested bacterial strains at two concentrations： 300 μg and 3 mg/disc. Furthermore, our data reveal that among all plants investigated, some extract and hydrophobic fractions were potent scavengers of the DPPH radical（6.78 μg/m L 〈 EC50 〈 8.55 μg/mL）. Taken together, our results show that Nerium oleander（NOACN/W） and Pituranthos tortuosus（PTACN/W） were highly cytotoxic against RAW 264.7 cells with IC80 values of 0.36, and 1.55 μg/mL, respectively. In contrast, murine macrophage cell lines had low growth and were significantly sensitive to water extracts of Thymus hirtus sp. algeriensis（THW）, Lavandula multifida（LMW）, and ACN/W extract of Erica multiflora（EMACN/W） at doses 〉 400, 47.20, and 116.74 μg/m L, respectively. The current work demonstrates that RAW 264.7 cell proliferation was inhibited by samples in a dose-dependent manner. Conclusion Our findings, validated through free radical scavenging activity, agar diffusion assay, and cytotoxicity of essential oils towards cancer cells, show that ethnomedicinal plants used in this work have a novel

In this paper,a software/hardware High-level Synthesis(HLS)design is proposed to compute the Adaptive Vector Median Filter(AVMF)in *** fact,this filter is known by its excellent impulsive noise suppression and chromaticity *** software(SW)study of this filter demonstrates that its implementation is too *** purpose of this work is to study the impact of using an HLS tool to design ideal floating-point and optimized fixed-point hardware(HW)architectures for the AVMF filter using square root function(ideal HW)and ROM memory(optimized HW),respectively,to select the best HLS architectures and to design an efficient HLS software/hardware(SW/HW)embedded AVMF design to achieve a trade-off between the processing time,power consumption and hardware *** that purpose,some approximations using ROM memory were proposed to perform the square root and develop a fixed-point AVMF *** that,the best solution generated for each HLS design was integrated in the SW/HW environment and evaluated under ZC702 FPGA *** experimental results showed a reduction of about 65%and 98%in both the power consumption and processing time for the ideal SW/HW implementation relative to the ideal SW implementation for an AVMF filter with the same image quality,***,the power consumption and processing time of the optimized SW/HW are 70%and 97%less than the optimized SW implementation,*** addition,the Look Up Table(LUTs)percentage,power consumption and processing time used by the optimized SW/HW design are improved by nearly 45%,18%and 61%compared the ideal SW/HW design,respectively,with slight decrease in the image quality.

As the newest standard,the High Efficiency Video Coding(HEVC)is specially designed to minimize the bitrate for video data transfer and to support High Definition(HD)and ULTRA HD video resolutions at the cost of increasing computational complexity relative to earlier standards like the ***,real-time video decoding with HEVC decoder becomes a challenging ***,the Dequantization and Inverse Transform(DE/IT)are one of the computationally intensive modules in the HEVC decoder which are used to reconstruct the residual ***,in this paper,a unified hardware architecture is proposed to implement the HEVC DE/IT module for all Transform Unit(TU)block size,including 4×4,8×8,16×16 and 32×*** architecture is designed using the High-Level Synthesis(HLS)and the Low-Level Synthesis(LLS)methods in order to compare and determine the best method to implement in real-time the DE/IT *** fact,the C/C++programming language is used to generate an optimized hardware design for DE/IT module through the Xilinx Vivado HLS *** the other hand,the LLS hardware architecture is designed by the VHSIC Hardware Description language(VHDL)and using the pipeline technique to decrease the processing *** experimental results on the Xilinx XC7Z020 FPGA show that the LLS design increases the throughput in term of frame rate by 80%relative to HLS design with a 4.4%increase in the number of Look-Up Tables(LUTs).Compared with existing related works in literature,the proposed architectures demonstrate significant advantages in hardware cost and performance improvement.

In the context of constructing an embedded system to help visually impaired people to interpret text,in this paper,an efficient High-level synthesis(HLS)Hardware/Software(HW/SW)design for text extraction using the Gamma Correction Method(GCM)is ***,the GCM is a common method used to extract text from a complex color image and *** purpose of this work is to study the complexity of the GCM method on Xilinx ZCU102 FPGA board and to propose a HW implementation as Intellectual Property(IP)block of the critical blocks in this method using HLS flow with taking account the quality of the text *** IP is integrated and connected to the ARM Cortex-A53 as coprocessor in HW/SW codesign *** experimental results show that theHLS HW/SW implementation of the GCM method on ZCU102 FPGA board allows a reduction in processing time by about 89%compared to the SW *** result is given for the same potency and strength of SW implementation for the text extraction.

The control of time delay systems is still an open area for research. This paper proposes an enhanced model predictive discrete-time sliding mode control with a new sliding function for a linear system with state delay. Firstly, a new sliding function including a present value and a past value of the state, called dynamic surface, is designed by means of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs）. Then, using this dynamic function and the rolling optimization method in the predictive control strategy, a discrete predictive sliding mode controller is synthesized. This new strategy is proposed to eliminate the undesirable effect of the delay term in the closed loop system. Also, the designed control strategy is more robust, and has a chattering reduction property and a faster convergence of the system s state. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control.

Objective This research was performed to evaluate the effect of tebuconazole(TBZ)on reproductive organs of male rats and to assess the protective role of combined essential trace elements in alleviating the detrimental effect of TBZ on male reproductive *** For this purpose,48 rats were exposed to 100 mg/kg TBZ,TBZ supplemented with zinc(Zn),selenium(Se),copper(Cu),and iron(Fe),TBZ+(Se+Zn);TBZ+Cu;or TBZ+*** experiment was conducted for 30 consecutive *** TBZ caused a significant perturbation in mineral levels and reduction in reproductive organs weights,plasma testosterone level,and testicular antioxidant enzyme *** TBZ-treated group also showed a significant increase in sperm abnormalities(count,motility,and viability percent),plasma follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone concentrations,lipid peroxidation,protein oxidation,and severe DNA degradation in comparison with the ***,TBZ caused testis ***,treatment with trace elements,in combination or alone,improved the reproductive organ weights,sperm characteristics,TBZ-induced toxicity,and histopathological modifications in *** TBZ exerts significant harmful effects on male reproductive *** concurrent administration of trace elements reduces testis dysfunction,fertility,and toxicity induced by TBZ.

The uptake of metals in roots and their transfer to rhizomes and above-ground plant parts（stems, leaves） of cattails（Typha latifolia L.） were studied in leachates from a domestic landfill site（Etueffont, France） and treated in a natural lagooning system. Plant parts and corresponding water and sediment samples were taken at the inflow and outflow points of the four ponds at the beginning and at the end of the growing season. Concentrations of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni and Zn in the different compartments were estimated and their removal efficiency assessed, reaching more than 90% for Fe, Mn and Ni in spring and fall as well in the water compartment. The above-and below-ground cattail biomass varied from 0.21 to 0.85, and 0.34 to 1.24 kg dry weight/m^2, respectively, the highest values being recorded in the fourth pond in spring 2011. The root system was the first site of accumulation before the rhizome, stem and leaves. The highest metal concentration was observed in roots from cattails growing at the inflow of the system＇s first pond. The trend in the average trace element concentrations in the cattail plant organs can generally be expressed as： Fe 〉 Mn 〉 As 〉 Zn 〉 Cr 〉 Cu 〉 Ni 〉 Cd for both spring and fall. While T. latifolia removes trace elements efficiently from landfill leachates, attention should also be paid to the negative effects of these elements on plant growth.

The paper presents a parametric study on interpolation techniques based postprocessed error estimation in finite element elastic analysis by varying important parameters of recovery,interpolation scheme and type of patch *** quality of error estimation with recovery parameters is compared in terms of local and global effectivity of error estimation,rate of error convergence,and adaptively refined meshes.A mesh free moving least square interpolation technique with proven reliability and effectivity is introduced for improving the recovery of finite element solution *** post-processed finite element solutions of elastic problems are presented for performance study under different parameters of recovery *** study concludes that recovery parameters of interpolation method have pronounced effect on the recovery of finite element solution error and analysis in adaptive environment.
