Multifunctional transition and temperature-responsive contact lenses

Smart contact lenses have recently gained traction due to their functionalization as noninvasive diagnostic and therapeutic wearables that can address several ocular ***,multifunctional contact lenses exhibiting UV-transition and temperature-responsive capabilities were developed utilizing chromogenic materials that were integrated simultaneously into poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)(pHEMA)contact *** functionalities of the contact lenses were optically evaluated in both their activated and non-activated *** contact lenses offered excellent UV and blue light blocking capabilities(~45%)at their inactive *** activated via UV exposure,the transparent lenses darkened instantaneously and absorbed portions of the visible light *** absorption intensity and transient discoloration of the transition lenses relied primarily on the utilized photochromic ***,the temperature-responsive contact lenses exhibited distinct colorimetric variations in response to temperature changes within the physiological range(33-38℃).The maximum sensitivity of the thermochromic lens was 8%transmitted light per Celsius degree *** and morphological analysis indicated the adequacy of the contact ***,the multifunctional contact lenses can be deployed as smart wearables to manage ophthalmic deficiencies that are deterred by UV radiations and variations in ocular surface temperature.

Mental Health and Quality of Life of Disable Palestinian Children in the Gaza Strip

The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of mental health problems and quality of life among Palestinian disable children. The sample consisted of 391 disable Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip which was selected randomly from the data base of two NGOs working with such group of children. The age of children ranged from 6 - 18 years with mean age (11.73). Instruments: The children and adolescents demographic data were collected by questionnaire include sex, age, class, and place of residence, Gaza Child Health Study Scales (parents and children forms), and The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory generic core (version 4.0) scale. The results showed that children reported mean conduct disorder was 1.33;oppositional disorder was 5;mean overanxious was 6.75;separation anxiety mean was 6.36;and depression was 7.57. There were statistically significant differences toward boys in depression. According to parents, mean conduct disorder mean was 1.94;mean oppositional disorder was 6.09;mean overanxious was 7.47;separation anxiety mean was 6.48;and mean depression was 9.6. The study showed that mean depression in boys was 10.4 compared to 8.9 in girls. There were statistically significant differences toward boys in depression. Parents of children with physical disabilities reported more overanxious problems in their children compared to other parents with other types of disabilities (vision, mental, and multiple). Also, parents of children with physical disability had more separation anxiety than other groups (mental and multiple disabilities). Quality of life of children was scored by children themselves;mean emotional functioning was 8.24;mean social functioning was 6.65;school functioning mean was 9.17;and cognitive functioning was 8.57. Objective:To evaluate the performance of preliminary phytochemical,antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Dracaena cinnabari Balf.f.(Agavaceae)(***)resin,collected from Socotra Island(Yemen).Methods:The powdered stem resin is extracted with different solvents by using Soxhlet apparatus and evaluated for antioxidant and antimicrobial activity against three Gram positive bacteria(Bacillus cereus NCIM 2106,Staphylococcus aureus NCIM 2127,and Micrococcus luteus NCIM 2169),seven Gram negative bacteria(Escherichia coli NCIM 2924,Pseudomonas aeruginosa NCIM 2863,Salmonella typhimurium NCIM 2501,Klebsiella aerogenes NCIM 2281,Proteus morganii NCIM 2860,Escherichia coli dh5α,Escherichia coli CSH)and three fungi(Candida albicans MTCC 227,Aspergillus flavus MTCC 873,Aspergillus niger MTCC 1781).Results:The antimicrobial activity data revealed that,the selected microorganisms possess varied sensitivity response to chloroform extract followed by methanol and benzene extract of *** stem *** samples also possess a potent DPPH,OH and SO radical scavenging *** addition,the preliminary phytochemical analysis demonstrated the presence of alkaloids,flavonoids,terpenoids and other organic compounds which could be reason for antimicrobial activities of *** ***:The present study is strengthened for the discovery and development of new antioxidant and antimicrobial drugs from *** resin which encourage us to continue with pure fractions.

Background:Many kinds of orchids have significant health benefits although ade-quate research on their biological functions is yet to be carried *** study inves-tigated the paracetamol-induced liver damage-protecting effect of epiphytic Aerides odorata methanol extract(AODE).Methods:The protective effects of AODE were studied by analyzing its effect on liver function parameters,messenger RNA(mRNA)expression,and tissue histopatho-logical *** results were confirmed by ligand-receptor interaction of molecular docking and multitarget interaction of network pharmacological ***:AODE significantly(p<0.05)minimized the dose-dependent increase in acid phosphatase,aspartate aminotransferase,alanine aminotransferase,alkaline phos-phatase,γ-glutamyl transferase,lactate dehydrogenase,and total bilirubin compared to the reference drug *** level decreased,and the antioxidant genes catalase(CAT),superoxide dismutase(SOD),β-actin,paraoxonase-1(PON1),and phosphofructokinase-1(PFK-1)were upregulated in AODE-treated paracetamol-intoxicated rats.A total of 376 compounds comprising phenols and flavonoids were identified using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight-mass spectrometry(UPLC-qTOF-MS).The online toxicity assessment using SwissADME and admetSAR exhibited drug-like,nontoxic,and potential pharmaco-logical ***,in silico analysis showed that isoacteoside,one of the identified compounds,exhibited the best docking score(−11.42)with the liver pro-tein human pituitary adenylate cyclase-1(Protein Data Bank ID:3N94).Furthermore,network pharmacology analysis identified the top 10 hub genes,namely AKT1(protein kinase B),CTNNB1(catenin beta-1),SRC(proto-oncogene c-Src),TNF(tumor necrosis factor),EGFR(epidermal growth factor receptor),HSP90AA1(heat shock protein 90α),MAPK3(mitogen-activated protein kinase 3),STAT3(signal transducer and activator of transcription 3),CASP3(caspase protein),

Impact of Cystic versus Cylindrical Types of Bronchiectasis on Pulmonary and Cardiac Functions

Background: The combination of the clinical features, HRCT score and echocardiographic evidence of pulmonary hypertension help assess the prognosis in bronchiectasis. Aim: To test whether pulmonary and cardiac functions associated with bronchiectasis would differ according to its type (cystic versus cylindrical) utilizing HRCT score, PFTs and echocardiography. Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional study of patients with bronchiectasis was conducted at Chest and Internal Medicine Departments at Assiut University Hospital, Egypt. The diagnosis of bronchiectasis type was based on HRCT findings. PFTs, HRCT score and echocardiography were assessed in all cases. Results: We studied 56 patients with bronchiectasis;31 were cystic (group A) and 25 were cylindrical (group B). Forced vital capacity (FVC%) and Dlco% were significantly lower in group A (P as compared with group B;whereas FEF 25%-75% and FEV1 (0.04) were lower in group B. Global HRCT score, RVD and SPAP were significantly higher in group A (P = 0.002) and correlated with FEV1% (r = ?0.51), and with SPAP (r = 0.16). Conclusions: Airway obstruction and small airway dysfunction were more significantly seen in cylindrical bronchiectasis. Patients with cystic bronchiectasis had significantly, higher global HRCT scores, RVD and SPAP. HRCT scores correlate with FEV 1% and SPAP and could be a predictor of future PH. Routine echocardiographic assessment of patients with bronchiectasis, particularly in those with cystic disease is highly recommended.

Seedling response of three agroforestry tree species to phosphorous fertilizer application in Bangladesh： growth and nodulation capabilities

Triple Super Phosphate, TSP fertilizer, was applied @ 80 kg·ha^-1 as the source of phosphorous on six months old polybag seed- lings of Albizia chinensis, Albizia saman and Pongamia pinnta in nursery beds in Bangladesh. The effects of P-fertilizer on seedling growth and nodulation were comparcd to that of seedlings grown in unfertilized soil or in control at different harvesting intervals. The study revealed that, seedling growth was enhanced significantly with the application of P-fertilizer. The growth was found more pronounced in cases of A. saman and P. pinnata, whereas it was not noticeable and showed depressed growth in case of A. chinensis. The study also suggests that nodulation in terms of nodule number and size was also increased significantly with P-fertilization except in case ofP. pinnata, where higher harvesting intervals lowered the nodulation performance of that species

Objective:To synthesize silver nanopaticles from leaves extract of Eucalyptus chapmaniana(***)and test the antimicrobial of the nanoparticles against different pathogenic bacteria,yeast and its toxicity against human acute promyelocytic leukemia(HL-60)cell ***:Ten milliliter of leaves extract was mixed with 90 mL of 0.01 mmol/mL or 0.02 mmol/mL aqueous AgNO_3 and exposed to sun light for 1 h.A change from yellowish to reddish brown color was *** using UV-vis spectrophotometery and X-ray diffraction analysis were *** activity against six microorganisms was tested using well diffusion method and cytoxicity test using 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide,a yellow tetrazole was obtained on the human leukemia cell line(HL-60).Results:UV-vis spectral analysis showed silver surface plasmon resonance band at 413 nm.X-ray diffraction showed that the particles were crystalline in nature with face centered cubic structure of the bulk silver with broad beaks at 38.50°and 44.76°.The synthesized silver nanoparticles efficiently inhibited various pathogenic organisms and reduced viability of the HL-60 cells in a dose-dependent ***:It has been demonstrated that the extract of *** leaves are capable of producing silver nanoparticles extracellularly and the Ag nanoparticles are quite stable in *** studies are needed to fully characterize the toxicity and the mechanisms involved with the antimicrobial and anticancer activity of these particles.
