Solar-driven hydrogen production from seawater attracts great interest for its emerging role in decarbonizing global energy consumption. Given the complexity of natural seawater content, photocatalytic vapor splitting offers a low-cost and safe solution, but with a very low solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency. With a focus on cutting-edge photothermal–photocatalytic device design and system integration, the recent research advances on vapor splitting from seawater, as well as industrial implementations in the past decades were reviewed. In addition, the design strategies of the key processes were reviewed, including vapor temperature and pressure control during solar thermal vapor generation from seawater, capillary-fed vaporization with salt repellent, and direct photocatalytic vapor splitting for hydrogen production. Moreover, the existing laboratory-scale and industrial-scale systems, and the integration principles and remaining challenges in the future seawater-to-hydrogen technology were discussed.

The NB （Nile River Basin） is considered one of the most population lives in its riparian countries. Out of the latter about 50% live important basins in Africa, as over 33% of the African in the NB. In this paper a historical background on the NB cooperation evolvement including the recent NBI （NB Initiative） is briefly reported. The natural and human challenges facing the Nile water management are examined and discussed. The present dilemma among the Nile riparian countries is highlighted and its reasons are explained. The latter includes the NB CFA （Cooperative Framework Agreement）, which has been signed by six countries （Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda） while rejected by Egypt, Sudan and not signed by DR of Congo. Eretria and the newly established country ＂South Sudan＂ stands are not yet clear. Based on scientific methodology and analytical discussion, a number of solutions for better management of the trans-boundary Nile waters are drawn; taking into consideration the experiences of other international rivers shared basins. Finally, the paper concludes with recommendations and guidelines that may help in the way forward.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)is considered the causative pathogen of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and has become an international danger to human *** respiratory transmission and symptoms are still the essential manifestations of COVID-19,the digestive system could be an unconventional or supplementary route for COVID-19 to be transmitted and manifested,most likely due to the presence of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2(ACE2)in the gastrointestinal *** addition,SARS-CoV-2 can trigger hepatic injury via direct binding to the ACE2 receptor in cholangiocytes,antibodydependent enhancement of infection,systemic inflammatory response syndrome,inflammatory cytokine storms,ischemia/reperfusion injury,and adverse events of treatment *** symptoms,including anorexia,nausea,vomiting,and diarrhea,which are unusual in patients with COVID-19,and some digestive signs may occur without other respiratory ***,SARS-CoV-2 can be found in infected patients’stool,demonstrating the likelihood of transmission through the fecal-oral *** addition,liver function should be monitored during COVID-19,particularly in more severe *** review summarizes the evidence for extra-pulmonary manifestations,mechanisms,and management of COVID-19,particularly those related to the gastrointestinal tract and liver.

BACKGROUND Impressive survival outcome of our previous study in unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients undergoing yttrium-90 glass microspheres transarterial radioembolization(TARE)with/without sorafenib according to individuals’disease burden,i.e.,intrahepatic tumor load(IHT)and adverse disease features(ADFs)might partly be confounded by other treatments and underlying hepatic ***,a dedicated study focusing on treatment response and assessment of failure patterns might be a way to improve treatment outcome in addition to patient selection based on the disease *** To assess the tumor response,disease control and patterns of disease progression following TARE with/without sorafenib in unresectable HCC *** This retrospective study was conducted in successful TARE procedures with available pre-and post-treatment imaging studies(n=169).Three treatment subgroups were(1)TARE only(TARE_alone)for IHT≤50%without ADFs,i.e.,macrovascular invasion,extrahepatic disease(EHD)and infiltrative/ill-defined HCC(n=63);(2)TARE with sorafenib(TARE_sorafenib)for IHT>50%and/or presence of ADFs(n=81);and(3)TARE only for patients who could not receive sorafenib due to contraindication or intolerance(TARE_no_sorafenib)(n=25).Objective response rate(ORR;consisted of complete response(CR)and partial response(PR)),disease control rate(DCR;consisted of CR,PR and stable disease)and failure patterns of treated,intrahepatic and extrahepatic sites were assessed using the modified response evaluation criteria in solid *** to progression(TTP)was calculated from TARE to the first radiologic progression at any site using Kaplan-Meier *** of prognostic factors for TTP using the univariate Kaplan-Meier method and multivariate Cox proportional hazard model were performed in major population subgroups,TARE_alone and TARE_*** The median radiologic follow-up time was 4.4 mo(range 0.5-48.8).In treated area,ORR was highest in

Background: The knowledge on pericardial disease has increased but the European Society of Cardiology in the last guidelines 2015 stated a section of perspective and unmet needs referring to the surgical management as one of these needs. Here, we present an institutional experience to contribute with other studies in explanation of questionable aspects about their surgical management. Methods: Among 127 cases (93 adults and 34 children) that were diagnosed as pericardial syndrome, we retrospectively analyzed 45 cases (40 adults and 5 children) operated for pericardial syndrome from May 2012 to June 2019. Echocardiogram was the main preoperative diagnostic tool. Surgical approach was selected according to each diagnosis. Postoperative clinical assessment, recurrence and mortality rate were the main determinants of outcome. Results: Regarding pericardial effusions, the mean preoperative medical treatment period was 17.7 ± 21.9 days and pericardial window through thoracotomy was the common approach (54.5%). In constrictive pericarditis, infection was the main etiology (40%), mean preoperative medical treatment period was 16 ± 8.8 days and complete pericardiectomy was the surgical procedure for most cases. Trans-sternal drainage was the standard approach for cardiac tamponade. Objectives: The radial artery is used as a second arterial conduit in coronary artery bypass surgery. However, concerns exist about the thermal injury incurred to the radial artery during endoscopic harvest. We sought to assess this effect both histologically and radiologically. Methods: From February 2015 to March 2016, 50 consecutive patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery utilizing endoscopically harvested radial artery were prospectively studied. Computerized tomography coronary angiography scan was performed randomly in 8 patients who also had their respective radial artery analyzed histologically at the time of harvest. Standard coronary angiography was also performed in 4 additional patients driven by symptoms recurrence. Results: All patients were available for follow up at 1 year following the surgery. There was no mortality during follow-up. Three patients (6%) developed transient complications in the harvest arm which resolved. All radial arteries were patent on follow-up imaging. Histological examination showed integrity of the arterial wall, intact endothelial lining, patent lumens and no significant pathological abnormalities. Conclusion: The use of endoscopic radial artery harvest was associated with few self-limiting morbidities and excellent patency rates. In addition, there was no evidence of any thermal or traumatic injuries sustained to the radial arteries when examined histologically. The use of endoscopically harvested radial arteries appears safe with excellent results.
