Unified Approach to Assess Engineering Performance of Fill Improved by Shallow to Deep Compaction Based Techniques Using Relative Density

The setting of pre assessment criteria for soil compaction is hardly determined, especially, in case of undecided structure locations. Different design guidelines recommend achieving a specific value of relative density for the compaction of fill placement works. Alternatives were discussed through the literature to predict the value of relative density based on soil field tests (e.g. cone and standard penetration tests). This paper presents the weakness of using the Over Consolidation Ratio (OCR) as guidance to assess the value of cone tip resistance using the soil relative density. The variation of OCR (from 1 to 10) has a significant effect on the qc value up to 110% when compared to the normally consolidated state. Then normally consolidated state can logically cover the compaction process with variation of 20%, 33%, and 4% for relative density values 85%, 70%, and 60%, respectively. A unified approach is recommended to predict the compaction qc-performance line using normally consolidated condition and sand relative density.

Antioxidant Activity and Lipoxygenase Inhibitory Effect of <i>Caralluma arabica</i>and Related Polyphenolic Constituents

Phytochemicals have been of great interest as a source of natural antioxidants used for health promotion, food preservation, food flavoring and cosmetics. In this research, alcoholic extract from Caralluma arabica and different solvent fractions were evaluated for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties as well as their polyphenolic compositions. The total antioxidant property was estimated by the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2, 2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) (ABTS+) and β-carotene bleaching tests. Among the ethanol extract and three fractions, the ethyl acetate fraction showed the highest phenolic content (33.1 mg gallic acid/g) and the best antioxidant activity. The ascorbic acid equivalent antioxidant capacities of the ethyl acetate fraction were 143.64, 381.3, 112.6 μmol/g in FRAP, ABTS and DPPH assays, respectively. This study verified that the ethanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction from Caralluma arabica have strong antioxidant activity that was correlated with their high level of phenolic content. Furthermore, the same extract showed appreciable anti-inflammatory via Lipoxygenase inhibitory activity (LOX), the IC50 values ranged from 11.2 - 30.77 μg/mL. Moreover, Ethyl acetate fraction showed the strongest cytotoxic effect (IC50 = 87.55 μg/mL) against MCF-7 breast cancer cell line. These findings suggest that Caralluma arabica may be considered as an interesting source of antioxidants for nutraceutical industries.

An active lifestyle has enormous health ***,physical activity has globally decreased since the beginning of the current coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)outbreak because of social distancing *** adults and people with age-related diseases(e.g.,diabetes,obesity,cancer,cardiovascular disorders,etc.)are widely affected by COVID-19 and its grave adverse effects because of their baseline poor immune *** they are in intense need for the therapeutic benefits of exercise,they may express a low capacity for exercising due to skeletal muscle dysfunction and low *** is a natural energy-rich,low glycemic index food with a variety of biological *** is reported to correct muscle pathology in diseased *** skeletal muscle is the key structure involved in the exercise,we explored the literature for the exercise-promoting potential of natural *** honey improves physical performance at moderate levels of activity,and it reduces the production of inflammatory cytokines and biomarkers of fatigue following strenuous exercise among *** ischemic heart disease patients with honey combined with floral pollen improved patients’tolerance for physical loads and corrected metabolic ***,the therapeutic use of honey may have implications for increasing the capacity for exercise in aged and diseased *** designed studies are needed to evaluate such possibilities.
