Improving the Stability of the Inflatable Soil of Diamniadio by Using Typha Australis in Order to Value It in Partitioning Wall

The construction industry in Senegal is experiencing an upsurge in the development of residential housing units and administrative buildings within the new Diamniadio municipality, an area located just about 35 km from the capital city of Dakar. Laboratory oedometer or expansive-index tests, however, show poor density and compromised shear strength in the soil samples within the area -posing serious construction problems due to significant volume changes (swellings) that occur when subjected to moisture, thus, bringing into question the structural performance integrity of the soil, and the financial implications of substitute soil types used to compensate for its poor tensile strength. By way, the companies collect the soil of this location (Diamniadio) and throw it to make pile or micro-pile (pious) for their structures. This article demonstrates how we can value the soil of Diamniadio and the Typha Australis in residential building with a reasonable cost. Typha Australis is a plant generally luxuriant within the northern and central belts of Senegal but also known for its negative ecological impacts on the agricultural production of rice. The valorisation of the soil of Diamniadio will pass by the ability to increase its stability or to decrease its shrinkage/swelling rate. When we achieve it, the soil associate with Typha Australis will be used for small bricks which can be useful for partition wall and so the soil will not be ever thrown as a non-useful material. Tests results of soil specimens extracted from the site show a shrinkage rate of 29.19% with estimated cracking depths of 3.5 cm. But by adding gradually Typha Australis, the shrinkage rate will pass from 29.19% to 5.13% with the material treats with 10% by mass of Typha Australis. Moreover, the crackings in the cylindrical specimen disappear. That shows the increase of the stability;thus the composition will be used for building bricks. Nasopharyngeal liposarcoma is an extremely rare clinical entity. Less than ten cases have been reported in the literature. It mainly occurs in humans. The non-specificity of the clinical and radiological signs explains the difficulty of the diagnosis confirmed by anatomopathological and immunohistochemical examinations. Its pathogenesis remains obscure and often correlates with genetic abnormalities. Pleomorphic liposarcoma is its rarest subtype, remarkable for its aggressiveness and rapidity of growth. Complete surgical excision remains the treatment of choice. We report a case of liposarcoma whose diagnosis was made during histological examination coupled with immunohistochemistry. .

Frailty in People Living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus Aged 50 Years and Older: Prevalence and Predictors

Introduction: Life expectancy improvement for people living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is coming up against the problems associated with aging and chronic diseases. Frailty is a concern affecting a growing number of patients, particularly the elderly in this population. Our study aimed to determine the prevalence of frailty and its predictors on people living with HIV aged 50 years and older followed at the Outpatient Treatment Clinic (CTA) in Dakar. Methodology: We conducted a cross-sectional study of descriptive and analytic purposes ranging from November 2022 to August 2023, in CTA, Dakar (Senegal). We included people living with HIV aged 50 years and older under antiretroviral therapy for at least 6 months (≥6 months). Frailty was considered according to Fried criteria with a score ≥3. To identify the predictors of frailty, we performed a multivariate logistic regression analysis using STATA software version 18. Results: We included 199 patients. The median age at the moment of the study was 58 years old [50 - 91] with a sex ratio (M/F) of 0.58. The most representative age group was that of [50 - 59] years (59.3%). HIV-1 profile was most common in 89.45%. The median duration under antiretroviral therapy was 180 months [6 - 284] and 94% of patients received a Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF)-containing regimen with 43% of them for at least 10 years. Viral load was undetectable (≤40 copies/ml) in 98% of cases. WHO Stage III was more common at inclusion and 55.78% had nadir TCD4+ Lymphocyte counts Conclusion: Our study confirms the high prevalence of frailty among older people living with HIV. Its prevention should consider the management of comorbidities and the implementation of non-pharmacological interventions such as nutrition.

The doubly excited states of helium-like ions are investigated using a combination of the no-linear parameters of Hylleraas and the β-parameters of screening constant by unit nuclear charge. Calculations are performed for total energies of low-lying doubly excited states (N = 2 - 9) in He-like ions up to Z = 10. The results obtained from the novel method are in good agreement with the available theoretical calculations and experimental observations.

Compressive Pericardial Teratoma about a Case at Regional Hospital of Saint Louis/Senegal

Introduction: Cardiac tumors in children are rare. Most are discovered in children under one year of age. Echocardiography is the basic examination for the screening, it allows their detection from the fetal stage. Observation: She was a 14-year-old patient with no known history of pathology. She was admitted to our department for the exploration of dyspnea and chest pain. At her admission, she had stable hemodynamics. At cardiac auscultation, heart sounds were muffled. The EKG recorded a sinus rhythm, and negative T-waves from V1 to V4. The chest X-ray showed cardiomegaly and a dense, rounded, heterogeneous left hilar opacity, well limited. Echocardiography objected to a great intrapericardial mass in front of the left cardiac cavities compressing part of the left atrium and left ventricle associated with an important pericardial effusion. The CT scan found a heterogeneous pericardial suspected myxoma mass. The pathological examination confirmed pericardial teratoma. The patient had an excision of the pericardial mass. The evolution after surgery was favorable. Conclusion: Intra-pericardial teratomas are benign tumor. Complete removal of the tumor is curative and without recurrence.

Decentralized Management of Diabetes Mellitus by General Patrician

Introduction: In Senegal, the frequency of diabetes mellitus is estimated at 3.2% and its management by the general patrician (gp) is dissatisfied. The objective was to evaluate the decentralized monitoring of diabetes mellitus and other cardiovascular risk factors by a trained general practician. Patients and methods: It was a retrospective, descriptive study conducted from June 1, 2013 to 31 May, 2015 in Dakar, where included the files of subjects with diabetes mellitus regularly followed. The data collected were epidemiological, diagnostic and therapeutic. Results: It was of 125 diabetics patients with a mean age of 56.4 years old. At the inclusion, their diabetes had a mean duration of 6.3 years and a mean average HbA1c of 10.4%. The complications were a neuropathy in 58 cases (46.4%), an arteritis in 46 cases (36.8%), a nephropathy in 16 cases (12.8%) and a retinopathy in 28 cases (22.4%). Other cardiovascular risk factors were an arterial hypertension in 74 cases (59.2%), smoking in 11 cases (8.8%), kidney disease in 16 cases (12.8%), and LDL-cholesterol > 1.6 g/l in 39 cases (31.2%). In total, 87 patients (69.6%) were at high cardiovascular risk and among them, 81.6% had LDL-cholesterol > 1g/l. At inclusion, anti-diabetic treatment was oral mono-therapy in 53 cases (42.4%), an insulin therapy in 49 cases (39.2%). After 12 month of follow-up, the dual therapy anti-diabetic was increased from 13.6% to 34.4%. The others associated drugs were anti-hypertensives in 72 cases (57.6%), statins in 29 cases (23.2%) and anti-platelet agent in 46 cases (36.8%). Only 31.2% of the patients with nephropathy were under the renin angiotensin system blockers. Statins and the anti-platelet agents were prescribed respectively at 25.2% and 47.1% of the 87 patients at high cardiovascular risk. Creuzfelt-Jakob Disease is a rare and progressive neurodegenerative disease that results in fatal, transmissible, subacute, spongiform encephalopathy characterized by rapidly progressive dementia and movement disorder. We present a 62-year-old male with no medical history who was admitted to our hospital because of gait and balance disturbance, language impairment and progressive motor deficit of the four limbs. A neurological examination found frontal lobe syndrome signs, myoclonic movements, pyramidal and extra-pyramidal signs. Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging detected high intensity areas in the basal ganglia. EEG showed generalized triphasic sharp-wave complexes. A Cerebro Spinal Fluid examination found protein 14-3-3. Death occurred six months after onset. This is the first known case of Creuzfelt-Jakob Disease documented in Senegal.

Epidemiological Aspect of ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) in Saint-Louis of Senegal

Background: Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) has become the largest and most common cause of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) related deaths worldwide, accounting for more than 50%. In Senegal, a few studies done on the topic showed a low prevalence of acute coronary syndrome in hospital settings. In the city of Saint-Louis in Northern Senegal, there is little epidemiological data on Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) and no study specifically concerned with ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) has been carried out to date. With this in mind, we conducted a study that focused on the analysis of STEMI patients hospitalized in the Cardiology Department of the Regional Hospital of Saint-Louis. The aim of our study was to collect and analyze the epidemiological aspect of STEMI. Results: There were 39 cases of STEMI, (i.e. 82.29% of ACS), giving a hospital prevalence of 8.21%. There was a slight male predominance with a male to female ratio of 1.05. The average age of our patients was 62.93 years ranging from 38 to 90 years. The average time between the onset of pain and arrival at the hospital was 50 hours, ranging from 1 hour to 720 hours. Patients received within the first 12 hours made up 66% (n = 26) of our population, among them, 80.76% (n = 21) (i.e. 53.84% of STEMIs) were able to benefit from thrombolysis. All thrombolysis was performed with Streptokinase. The mean time to thrombolysis was 6 hours ranging from 1 hour and 45 minutes to 11 hours. Arterial hypertension was the most frequent cardiovascular risk factor in our popular with a 43.6% prevalence, followed by diabetes (33.33%), then active smoking (23%). Chest pain was the most frequent symptom, reported in 34 patients (87.17%). The lesions on the Electrocardiogram (EKG) were located in the anterior territory in 64% of the cases (n = 25), in the inferior territory in 28% of the cases (n = 11), in the circumferential territory in 5% of the cases (n = 2), and lateral territory in 5% of the cases (n = 2).

We report in this paper the ground-state energy 2s^(2)^(1)S and total energies of doubly excited states 2p^(2)^(1)D,3d^(2)^(1)D,4f^(2)^(1)I of the Helium isoelectronic sequence from H-to Ca^(18+).Calculations are performed using the Modified Atomic Orbital Theory(MAOT)in the framework of a variational *** purpose of this study required a mathematical development of the Hamiltonian applied to Slater-type wave function[1]combining with Hylleraas-type wave function[2].The study leads to analytical expressions which are carried out under special MAXIMA computational *** first proposed MAOT variational procedure,leads to accurate results in good agreement as well as with available other theoretical results than experimental *** the present work,a new correlated wave function is presented to express analytically the total energies for the 2s21S ground state and each doubly 2p^(2)^(1)D,3d^(2)^(1)D,4f^(2)^(1)I excited states in the He-like *** present accurate data may be a useful guideline for future experimental and theoretical studies in the(nI^(2))systems.

Background and Objectives: Cervical cancer is a leading cause of cancer death in female populations. It is a virally induced carcinoma resulting from sexually transmitted high risk Human Papillomavirus infections (e.g. HPV-16, HPV-18). Previous studies have shown associations between IL-17A levels in cancer micro-environments and metastasis of tumor cells. In Africa, chemotherapy (CT) is the standard first-line treatment for cervical cancer and the prognosis remains poor for metastatic and recurrent cases. The impact of CT as a treatment option is still unclear. We investigated the prognostic relevance of IL-17A profiles in Cervical cancer patients (CP) patients treated with cisplatin in combination with 5-fluouracil (5FU) for three cycles. Methods: The study included 57 CP and 59 women with no history of malignancy as healthy controls (HC). IL-17A plasma levels were evaluated by ELISA. For each CP, three blood samples were collected at three-week intervals before initiation of the chemotherapy protocol. Results: Before chemotherapy CP showed higher serum levels of IL-17A compared to HCs (p = 0.035). No relation was detected between age and IL-17A levels. We observed a significant increase in serum IL-17A during treatment of the CP group (p Conclusion: Our results suggest that high serum levels of IL-17A are associated with poor responses to classical chemotherapy. However, considering these results to design CC biomarkers, we need further investigations particularly about the relevant prognostic indicator following chemotherapy.
