Factors Influencing Academic Motivation among UOS Medical Students

Motivation has been found to play a major role in determining student performance in the academic process. The aim of this study is to identify the intrinsic ＆ extrinsic motivational factors among medical students in the University of Sharjah. A Cross Sectional Study was conducted among university students of medical colleges in the period between February 2011 and March 2011. A total of 452 students （337 females and 115 males） were selected using the Quota sampling method equally between each college. A self-administered questionnaire consisting of 13 demographic questions, an agreement scale of 32 questions about the motivational factors and an open ended question asking students about what the university can do to help motivate them were developed. The most common intrinsic factors chosen by students were grade expectation （94%）, interest in material （92%） and leading an honorable life （88%）. While on the other hand the most common extrinsic factors were upcoming exams （88%）, family expectations （88%） and praise （82%）. The most common factors were similar between all students regardless of their major, gender, or performance. However, differences were visible in other factors such as in high performing students; rewards scored a 71.4% while low performing students scored it at 50%. It also shows that females consider praise as an important factor （86%） on the contrary males gave it a 72%. While the most common intrinsic factors showed to be grades, interest in material and leading an honorable life, the most common extrinsic factors on the other hand were upcoming exams, family expectations and praise.

Epigenetics plays an important role in the pathogenesis of several autoimmune diseases.1,2,3 Indeed,a large body of evidence implicates abnormal T cell DNA methylation patterns in the pathogenies of lupus,a prototypical autoimmune systemic disease.4,5 Specific DNA methylation marks have been associated with clinical subsets of lupus patients,6,7,8 while others,such as methylation levels in apoptosis genes,might explain differences in disease susceptibility between ethnicities.9 Furthermore,demethylation of the IFI44L gene locus has recently been described as a novel promising highly sensitive and specific diagnostic tool in lupus.

We elaborate the concept of increasing-order synchronization and anti-synchronization of chaotic systems via an adaptive control scheme and modulation *** is shown that the dynamical evolution of a third-order chaotic system can be synchronized and anti-synchronized with a fourth-order chaotic system even though their parameters are *** analysis and numerical simulations are carried out to verify the results.

A New System for Road Traffic Optimisation Using the Virtual Traffic Light Technology

Large cities suffer from traffic congestion,particularly at intersections,due to a large number of vehicles,which leads to the loss of time by increasing carbon emissions,including fuel ***,the need for optimising the flow of vehicles at different intersections and reducing the waiting time is a critical *** traffic lights have been used to control traffic flow at different intersections and have been improved to become more efficient by using different algorithms,sensors and ***,they also face some challenges,such as high-cost installation,operation,and maintenance *** paper develops a new system based on the Virtual Traffic Light(VTL)technology to improve traffic flow at different intersections and reduce the encountered loss of time and vehicles’travel ***,it reduces the costs of installation,maintenance and operation over various conventional traffic light ***,the system proposes algorithms for traffic scheduling and lane identification by using vehicle ID,priority and time of *** evaluate the system,four scenarios were presented where each scenario uses a different number of vehicles consisting of three types(emergency vehicles,public buses and private vehicles),each given a different *** proposed system is evaluated by integrating two simulators,namely,(OMNeT++)and(SUMO),and two frameworks,namely,(VEINS)and(INET)to prepare an appropriate working *** results prove that an improvement in the average travel time for several vehicles reaches 44.43%–49.76%compared with conventional traffic ***,it is proven from the obtained results that the average waiting time for emergency vehicles is enhanced by 96.63%–97.63%,while the average waiting time for public buses is improved by 94.81%–97.23%.On the other hand,the waiting time for private vehicles‘improved by 87.14%to 89.71%’.

On Solving the Lorenz System by Differential Transformation Method

The differential transformation method （DTM） is employed to solve a nonlinear differential equation, namely the Lorenz system. Numerical results are compared to those obtained by the Runge-Kutta method to illustrate the preciseness and effectiveness of the proposed method. In particular, we examine the accuracy of the （DTM） as the Lorenz system changes from a non-chaotic system to a chaotic one. It is shown that the （DTM） is robust, accurate and easy to apply.

Chaos Anti-synchronization between Two Novel Different Hyperchaotic Systems

We demonstrate that anti-synchronization can coexist in two different hyperchaotic systems of ratchets moving in different asymmetric potentials by active control method. By using rigorous mathematical theory, the sufficient condition is drawn for the stability of the error dynamics, where the controllers are designed by using the sum of the relevant variables in hyperchaotic systems. Numerical results are presented to justify the theoretical analysis strategy.

Effect of Warm Ionized Plasma Medium on Radiation Properties of Mismatched Microstrip Termination

Study of radiation properties of mismatched microstrip termination is carried out in warm ionized electron plasma medium. Linearised hydrodynamic theory coupled with vector wave technique is used to investigate radiation patterns and radiated power of a microstrip mismatched termination in one component electron plasma media for different plasma to source frequencies .These properties are used to compare the performance of an open circuit discontinuity with those of matched microstrip termination. Matched terminations are found more suitable for applications at higher frequencies than an open circuit discontinuity in the plasma medium though in free space they are less suitable.

Hybrid Adaptive Synchronization of Hyperchaotic Systems with Fully Unknown Parameters

In this paper, an adaptive control scheme is developed to study the hybrid synchronization behavior between two identical and different hyperchaotic systems with unknown parameters. This adaptive hybrid synchronization controller is designed based on Lyapunov stability theory and an analytic expression of the controller with its adaptive laws of parameters is shown. The adaptive hybrid synchronization between two identical systems (hyperchaotic Chen system) and different systems (hyperchaotic Lorenz and hyperchaotic systems) are taken as two illustrative examples to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulations are shown to verify the results.
