Contribution of mammalian target of rapamycin in the pathophysiology of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy

AIM: To explore the role of mammalian target of rapamycin(m TOR) in the pathogenesis of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy and the potential of rapamycin to improve this pathologic ***: Male albino Wistar rats weighing 100-120 g were treated with tetrachloride carbon(CCl_4) for 8 wk to induce cirrhosis. Subsequently, animals were administered rapamycin(2 mg/kg per day). The QT_c intervals were calculated in a 5-min electrocardiogram. Then, the left ventricular papillary muscles wereisolated to examine inotropic responsiveness to β-adrenergic stimulation using a standard organ bath equipped by Powerlab system. Phosphorylated-m TOR localization in left ventricles was immunohistochemically assessed, and ventricular tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α was measured. Western blot was used to measure levels of ventricular phosphorylated-m TOR ***: Cirrhosis was confirmed by hematoxylin and eosin staining of liver tissues, visual observation of lethargy, weight loss, jaundice, brown urine, ascites, liver stiffness, and a significant increase of spleen weight(P < 0.001). A significant prolongation in QTc intervals occurred in cirrhotic rats exposed to CCl_4(P < 0.001), while this prolongation was decreased with rapamycin treatment(P < 0.01). CCl_4-induced cirrhosis caused a significant decrease of contractile responsiveness to isoproterenol stimulation and a significant increase in cardiac TNF-α. These findings were correlated with data from western blot and immunohistochemical studies on phosphorylated-m TOR expression in left ventricles. Phosphorylated-m TOR was significantly enhanced in cirrhotic rats, especially in the endothelium, compared to controls. Rapamycin treatment significantly increased contractile force and myocardial localization of phosphorylated-m TOR and decreased cardiac TNF-α concentration compared to cirrhotic rats with no treatment. Objective: To identify the medicinal plants effective in infectious ***: Initially, we obtained a list of herbalists and traditional healers from Food and Drug Deputy. Direct observations and interviews as well as collection of herbarium specimens of indigenous medicinal plants effective in infectious diseases of urinary tract,reproductive, digestive, respiratory and skin systems were performed. This study was conducted through questionnaires and interviews; the questionnaires were distributed among traditional healers and simultaneous interviews were also run. The plants were herbariumized, herbarium specimens were authenticated, and their species were determined by using reliable flora and other sources. Finally, the data were input into Excel2010 and analyses were ***: Out of the studied plants, 35 native medicinal plants belonging to 17 families were effective in the treatment of various diseases and infections. In this study, the Lamiaceae family had the highest frequency of plants for the treatment of *** healers of Urmia in 24% of cases used the leaves of medicinal herb to treat patients. In 68% of cases, they prescribed medicinal herbs in the boiled forms. Most medicinal herbs showed therapeutic effect on the digestive ***: Traditional medicinal sources, valuable knowledge of traditional healers in Urmia, the scientific investigation of the effects of the herbs offered in this study and their effects in traditional medicine may provide a good source for new drugs in modern medicine.

Evolution of the Piranshahr pull-apart basin at releasing stepovers of the strike-slip fault systems in Northwest of Iran:Insights from twodimensional numerical modeling

The Piranshahr pull-apart basin,situated in the northwestern part of the Zagros Main Recent Fault(MRF),is characterized by two right-stepping segments of the dextral ***,a combination of finite element modeling techniques,especially twodimensional numerical modeling using ABAQUS software,along with field-based structural geological methods are used to assess the geometry and evolution of the pull-apart along the releasing stepovers in this strike-slip *** utilized numerical approach applies two-dimensional(2D)finite-element modeling related to elastic Newtonian rheology to evaluate the distribution of stress and localization of strain within the pull-apart *** study provides valuable insights into the factors controlling the shape,as well as exploring the interaction between the pre-existing structures in this right-lateral strike-slip releasing stepover,pull-apart basin development in strike-slip systems,and stress-strain behavior by studying the impact of boundary conditions and fault overlap on the deformation *** models consider three representative geometries of fault segment interactions,including underlapping,neutral,and overlapping stepovers,positioned at angles of 30°,45°,and 60°.The results indicate that increased overlap creates an extensive and elongated deformation pattern,while decrease overlap leads to block rotation and a narrow deformation *** addition,the degree of overlapping between parallel strike-slip faults influences the stress and *** mean normal stress within the transtensional basin,located between the fault segments,exhibits an extensional nature,while the region outside the stepover experiences general compressive mean normal *** Piranshahr transtensional pull-apart basin exemplifies the progressive evolution of underlapping stepovers,resulting in displaying an elongated rhomboidal to trapezoidal-shaped geometry over time.

Objective: To evaluate the susceptibility of Anopheles stephensi(An. stephensi) Liston, the main malaria vector in southern Iran, to WHO recommended insecticides. Methods: Larvae of An. stephensi were collected from three different larval habitats in both urban and rural area of Bandar Abbas city and one rural area in Rudan county southern Iran. WHO standard method was used for evaluation of adult and larval mosquito susceptibility. Bendiocarb, permethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, deltamethrin as insecticide and temephos and chlorpyriphos as larvicide were used at the diagnostic dosages recommended by WHO. Results: Findings of this study showed all larval populations of An. stephensi were completely susceptible to temephos and candidate for resistance to chlorpyriphos. Adult mosquitoes in rural areas of Bandar Abbas city were resistant to pyrethroid and carbamate insecticides. Conclusion: Comparison of the results of this survey with previous studies indicates that the resistance to pyrethroids and carbamates in this malaria endemic region is increasing. Wide use of pesticides in agriculture is certainly effective in increasing resistance. The inter-sectoral coordination and collaboration in health and agriculture seem to be necessary to manage insecticide resistance in malaria vectors.

Objective Understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying epileptogenesis yields new in- sights into potential therapies that may ultimately prevent epilepsy. Gap junctions （GJs） create direct intercellular conduits between adjacent cells and are formed by hexameric protein subunits called connexins （Cxs）. Changes in the expression of Cxs affect GJ communication and thereby could modulate the dissemination of electrical discharges. The hippocampus is one of the main regions involved in epileptogenesis and has a wide network of GJs between different cell types where Cx30 is expressed in astrocytes and Cx32 exists in neurons and oligodendrocytes. In the present study, we evaluated the changes of Cx30 and Cx32 expression in rat hippocampus during kindling epileptogenesis. Methods Rats were stereotaxically implanted with stimulating and recording electrodes in the basolateral amygdala, which was electrically stimulated once daily at afterdischarge threshold. Expression of Cx30 and Cx32, at both the mRNA and protein levels, was measured in the hippocampus at the beginning, in the middle （after acquisition of focal seizures）, and at the end （after establishment of generalized seizures） of the kindling process, by real-time PCR and Western blot. Results Cx30 mRNA expression was upregulated at the beginning of kindling and after acquisition of focal seizures. Then it was downregulated when the animals acquired generalized seizures. Overexpression of Cx30 mRNA at the start of kindling was consistent with the respective initial protein increase. Thereafter, no change was found in protein abundance during kindling. Regarding Cx32, mRNA expression decreased after acquisition of generalized seizures and no other significant change was detected in mRNA and protein abundance during kindling. Modified Scherrer Equation to Estimate More Accurately Nano-Crystallite Size Using XRD

Scherrer Equation, L=Kλ/β.cosθ, was developed in 1918, to calculate the nano crystallite size (L) by XRD radiation of wavelength λ (nm) from measuring full width at half maximum of peaks (β) in radian located at any 2θ in the pattern. Shape factor of K can be 0.62 - 2.08 and is usually taken as about 0.89. But, if all of the peaks of a pattern are going to give a similar value of L, then β.cosθ must be identical. This means that for a typical 5nm crystallite size and λ Cukα1 = 0.15405 nm the peak at 2θ = 170° must be more than ten times wide with respect to the peak at 2θ = 10°, which is never observed. The purpose of modified Scherrer equation given in this paper is to provide a new approach to the kind of using Scherrer equation, so that a least squares technique can be applied to minimize the sources of errors. Modified Scherrer equation plots lnβ against ln(1/cosθ) and obtains the intercept of a least squares line regression, ln=Kλ/L, from which a single value of L is obtained through all of the available peaks. This novel technique is used for a natural Hydroxyapatite (HA) of bovine bone fired at 600°C, 700°C, 900°C and 1100°C from which nano crystallite sizes of 22.8, 35.5, 37.3 and 38.1 nm were respectively obtained and 900°C was selected for biomaterials purposes. These results show that modified Scherrer equation method is promising in nano materials applications and can distinguish between 37.3 and 38.1 nm by using the data from all of the available peaks.

Pathological consequences of C-peptide deficiency in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus

Diabetes is associated with several complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy and cardiovascular diseases. Currently, insulin is the main used medication for management of insulin-dependentdiabetes mellitus(type-1 diabetes). In this metabolic syndrome, in addition to decrease of endogenous insulin, the plasma level of connecting peptide(C-peptide) is also reduced due to beta cell destruction. Studies in the past decade have shown that C-peptide is much more than a byproduct of insulin biosynthesis and possess different biological activities. Therefore, it may be possible that C-peptide deficiency be involved, at least in part, in the development of different complications of diabetes. It has been shown that a small level of remaining C-peptide is associated with significant metabolic benefit. The purpose of this review is to describe beneficial effects of C-peptide replacement on pathological features associated with insulin-dependent diabetes. Also, experimental and clinical findings on the effects of C-peptide on wholebody glucose utilization, adipose tissue metabolism and tissues blood flow are summarized and discussed. The hypoglycemic, antilipolytic and vasodilator effects of C-peptide suggest that it may contribute to fine-tuning of the tissues metabolism under different physiologic or pathologic conditions. Therefore, C-peptide replacement together with the classic insulin therapy may prevent, retard, or ameliorate diabetic complications in patients with type-1 diabetes.

Statistical process control (spc), as one of the quality devices, can be help manufacturers improve the quality of their products in today’s competitive world. This research examines the statistical method of wire-cut electric discharge machining (WEDM) process of the turbine blade airfoil tip for control and consistency of the process. For this purpose, the standard deviation control chart, S, and the average data, , which are applied for identifying the acquired factors, have been used. Next, regarding the plan features, the manufacturing process is assessed to determine whether the products meet quality and the customer requirements or not. Therefore, the coefficients Cpk is applied which indicate the capability of the manufacturing process. Then, in order to produce high quality blades within the tolerance range, the capability of WEDM machine is examined, using coefficients CM. Finally, it is shown that in order to produce the desired product, the process can be controlled and fixed by using the statistical process control devices and inspecting the standard deviation of data and investigation of capability of process and machine.
