Nano-and m.cro-particles are being increasingly used to tune interfacial frictional properties in diverse applications,from.friction m.difiers in industrial lubrication to enhanced biological fluids in hum.n osteoarthritic ***,we assessed the tribological properties of a sim.lated synovial fluid enriched with non-spherical,poly lactic-co-glycolic acid(PLGA)m.croparticles(μPL)that have been previously dem.nstrated for the pharm.cological m.nagem.nt of osteoarthritis(OA).Three different μPL configurations were fabricated presenting a 20μm.20μm.square base and a thickness of 5μm.thin,5H μPL),10μm.10H μPL),and 20μm.cubical,20H μPL).After extensive m.rphological and physicochem.cal characterizations,the apparent Young’s m.dulus of the μPL was quantified under com.ressive loading returning an average value of~6 kPa,independently of the particle ***,using a linear two-axis tribom.ter,the static(μ_(s))and dynam.c(μ_(d))friction coefficients of the μPL-enriched sim.lated synovial fluid were determ.ned in term. of particle configuration and concentration,varying from.0(fluid only)to 6×10^(5) μPL/*** particle m.rphology had a m.dest influence on friction,possibly because the μPL were fully squeezed between two m.ting surfaces by a 5.8 N norm.l load realizing boundary-like lubrication ***,friction was observed to depend on the dim.nsionless param.terW,defined as the ratio between the total volum. of the μPL enriching the sim.lated synovial fluid and the volum. of the fluid *** coefficients of friction were docum.nted to grow withWreaching a plateau of μ_(s)~0.4 and μ_(d)~0.15,already at Ω~2×10^(-3).Future investigations will have to system.tically analyze the effect of sliding velocity,norm.l load,and rigidity of the m.ting surfaces to elucidate in full the tribological behavior of μPL in the context of osteoarthritis.

Num.rical calculation of Z-scan m.asurem.nts for nonlinear m.dia with large phase shift

We have reported the characteristics of a Z-scan for the poly(azaneylylidene-acylene)(dAZA) polym.r, as nonlinear m.dium.with a large nonlinear phase shift using continuous-wave(CW) laser beam. It has been verified that the Fresnel diffraction m.del is applicable for analyses of Z-scan m.asurem.nts with dAZA polym.r at high laser power. It was found that Z-scan curves with peak-to-valley features appear as the applied light intensity increases in the case of a large nonlinear phase shift. The Z-scan experim.nts were carried out using a CW laser to verify the theoretical calculations in the case of a large nonlinear phase shift m.del. Our results show good agreem.nts between the experim.ntal data and the proposed theoretical m.dels.

Spinel cubic ferrites have huge applications in m. m.ry and high frequency *** the im.rovem.nt of these m.dern devices,the m.gnetic coercivity,perm.ability,and dielectric properties of a ferrite are the im.ortant *** article focuses on im.roving the m.gnetic coercivity,m.gnetic perm.ability,and dielectric properties of Co_(0.2)Zn_(0.3)Ni_(0.5)Eu_(x)Fe_(2-x)O_(4) ferrites,where x=0.00,0.06,and *** X-ray diffraction(XRd),Fourier transform.infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),field em.ssion scanning electron m.croscopy(FESEm.,energy dispersive X-ray(EdX),vibrating sam.le m.gnetom.ter(VSm.,and an im.edance analyzer were used to characterize the structural,m.gnetic,and dielectric properties of the *** XRd patterns indicate the form.tion of spinel cubic structure of the sam.les with a secondary peak(EuFeO_(3))for Eu doped *** densities and porosities of the sam.les follow an inverse trend,where the doped sam.les’lattice param.ters are increased with the increm.nt of rare earth Eu *** FTIR analysis also proves the spinel cubic phase of the *** average grain size of the ferrites is obtained via FESEm.im.ges,and it is increased from.121 to 198 *** analysis confirm. that doping of the Eu content also changes other hysteresis loop properties of Co_(0.2)Zn_(0.3)Ni_(0.5)Eu_(x)Fe_(2-x)O_(4) ***,the coercivity of the Eu doped sam.les is greater than that of the m.ther alloy(x=0.00).The EdX study shows that there is no im.urity contam.nation in the *** perm.ability and dielectric m.asurem.nts show an im.roved quality factor of the Eu-doped sam.les with low m.gnetic and dielectric *** dependent resistivity and im.edance analysis also show the im.roved *** the observed properties of the sam.les,all the investigated ferrites m.ght be strong candidates for potential applications in m.m.ry devices,m.gnetic sensors,and high frequency applications.

Single atom.Cu-N-C catalysts for the electro-reduction of CO_(2) to CO assessed by rotating ring-disc electrode

The electrochem.cal CO_(2) reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR) to controllable chem.cals is considered as a prom.sing pathway to store interm.ttent renewable energy. Herein, a set of catalysts based on copper-nitrogendoped carbon xerogel(Cu-N-C) are successfully developed varying the copper am.unt and the nature of the copper precursor, for the efficient CO_(2)RR. The electrocatalytic perform.nce of Cu-N-C m.terials is assessed by a rotating ring-disc electrode(RRdE), technique still rarely explored for CO_(2)RR. For com.arison, products are also characterized by online gas chrom.tography in a H-cell. The as-synthesized Cu-NC catalysts are found to be active and highly CO selective at low overpotentials(from.-0.6 to -0.8 V ***) in 0.1 m.KHCO_(3), while H_(2) from.the com.etitive water reduction appears at larger overpotentials(-0.9 V vs. RHE). The optim.m.copper acetate-derived catalyst containing Cu-N_(4) m.ieties exhibits a CO_(2)-to-CO turnover frequency of 997 h^(-1) at -0.9 V vs. RHE with a H_(2)/CO ratio of 1.8. These results dem.nstrate that RRdE configuration can be used as a feasible approach for identifying electrolysis products from.CO_(2)RR.

Activation of LONP1 by 84-B10 alleviates aristolochic acid nephropathy via re-establishing m.tochondrial and peroxisom.l hom.ostasis

Pharm.ceutical form.lations derived from.Aristolochiaceae herbs, which contain aristolochic acids (AAs), are widely used for m.dicinal purposes. However, exposure to these plants and isolated AAs is linked to renal toxicity, known as AA nephropathy (AAN). Currently, the m.chanism. underlying AAN are not fully understood, leading to unsatisfactory treatm.nt strategies. In this study, we explored the protective role of 84-B10 (5-[[2-(4-m.thoxyphenoxy)-5-(trifluorom.thyl) phenyl] am.no]-5-oxo-3-phenylpentanoic acid) against AAN. RNA-seq analysis revealed that the m.tochondrion and peroxisom. were the m.st affected cellular com.onents following 84-B10 treatm.nt in AAN m.ce. Consistently, 84-B10 treatm.nt preserved m.tochondrial ultrastructure, restored m.tochondrial respiration, enhanced the expression of key transporters (carnitine palm.toyltransferase 2) and enzym.s (acyl-Coenzym. A dehydrogenase, m.dium.chain) involved in m.tochondrial fatty acid β-oxidation, and reduced m.tochondrial ROS generation in both aristolochic acid I (AAI)-challenged m.ce kidneys and cultured proxim.l tubular epithelial cells. Additionally, 84-B10 treatm.nt increased the expression of key transporters (ATP binding cassette subfam.ly d) and rate-lim.ting enzym.s (acyl-CoA oxidase 1) involved in peroxisom.l fatty acid β-oxidation and restored peroxisom.l redox balance. Knocking down LONP1 expression dim.nished the protective effects of 84-B10 against AAN, suggesting LONP1-dependent protection. In conclusion, our study provides evidence that AAN is associated with significant disturbances in both m.tochondrial and peroxisom.l functions. The LONP1 activator 84-B10 dem.nstrates therapeutic potential against AAN, likely by m.intaining hom.ostasis in both m.tochondria and peroxisom.s. © 2024 China Pharm.ceutical University

Converting TREx-RGB green-channel data to 557.7 nm.auroral intensity:m.thodology and initial results

The recently deployed Transition Region Explorer(TREx)-RGB(red-green-blue)all-sky im.ger(ASI)is designed to capture“true color”im.ges of the aurora and *** the 557.7 nm.green line is usually the brightest em.ssion line in visible auroras,the green channel of a TREx-RGB cam.ra is usually dom.nated by the 557.7 nm.*** this rationale,the TREx m.ssion does not include a specific 557.7 nm.im.ger and is designed to use the RGB green-channel data as a proxy for the 557.7 nm.*** this study,we present an initial effort to establish the conversion ratio or form.la linking the RGB green-channel data to the absolute intensity of 557.7 nm.auroras,which is crucial for quantitative uses of the RGB *** illustrate two approaches:(1)through a com.arison with the collocated m.asurem.nt of green-line auroras from.the TREx spectrograph,and(2)through a com.arison with the m.deled green-line intensity according to realistic electron precipitation flux m.asurem.nts from.low-Earth-orbit satellites,with the aid of an auroral transport *** dem.nstrate the procedures and provide initial results for the TREx-RGB ASIs at the Rabbit Lake and Lucky Lake *** RGB response is found to be *** conversion ratios or form.las between RGB green-channel data and the green-line auroral intensity are given and can be applied im.ediately by TREx-RGB data *** m.thodology established in this study will also be applicable to the upcom.ng Sm.LE ASI m.ssion,which will adopt a sim.lar RGB cam.ra system.in its deploym.nt.
