Kinetic and Thermodynamic Study of Arsenic (V) Adsorption on p and W Aluminum Functionalized Zeolites and Its Regeneration

In the “Laguna” region of Coahuila state, Mexico like other places in the world, the groundwater needs to be treated to meet the quality required for human consumption. The study had probed that a Mexican fly ash can be used as a raw material to obtain effective low cost adsorbents for drinking water treatment, as well evaluated the effects of pH, ion coexistence, dose, arsenic (As) concentration and temperature on the As(V) uptake by using p and W modified zeolites (pMoD and WMoD) obtained from a Mexican fly ash. The As(V) adsorption capacity of the WMoD zeolite was not affected by pH and As(V) concentrations in aqueous solution was achieved 0.01 mg/L in the studied pH range;however, the As(V) removal by using pMoD zeolite decreased at high pH values. Carbonate concentration had a negative effect on the As(V) uptake of both zeolites but this effect was higher for the pMoD zeolite. The maximum adsorption capacities (Qmax) were 76.11 and 44.44 mg of As(V)/g of zeolite for the WMoD and the pMoD zeolites, respectively. The adsorption process was endothermic, spontaneous and occurred by chemical exchange. The experimental data were best interpreted by a pseudo-second order kinetic model. The WMoD zeolite showed a higher adsorption capacity and rate than the pMoD even at the highest evaluated As(V) concentration. The adsorption capacity of the regenerated WMoD zeolite was similar to the original zeolite. Because of the high As(V) adsorption capacity, chemical stability and regenerability, the WMoD zeolite is potentially useful as low-cost adsorbent for As(V) removal from aqueous effluents.

Muscle activity and kinematics of forefoot and rearfoot strike runners

Background:Forefoot strike(FFS) and rearfoot strike(RFS) runners differ in their kinematics,force loading rates,and joint loading patterns,but the timing of their muscle activation is less ***:Forty recreational and highly trained runners ran at four speeds barefoot and shod on a motorized treadmill. "Barefoot" runners wore thin,five-toed socks and shod runners wore neutral running *** were instructed to run comfortably at each speed with no instructions about foot strike ***:Eleven runners landed with an FFS when barefoot and shod and eleven runners landed with an RFS when barefoot and *** 18remaining runners shifted from an FFS when barefoot to an RFS when shod(shifters).Shod shifters ran with a lower stride frequency and greater stride length than all other *** FFS runners landed with more plantarflexed ankles and more vertical lower legs at the beginning of stance compared to RFS *** runners activated their plantarflexor muscles 1 1%earlier and 10%longer than RFS ***:This earlier and longer relative activation of the plantarrlexors likely enhances the capacity for the passive structures of the foot and ankle to store elastic energy,and may also enhance the performance of the active muscle by increasing the storage of elastic strain energy in the cross-bridaes and activated thin.

He,ne and Ar isotopic composition of Fe-Mn crusts from the western and central pacific ocean and implications for their genesis

The noble gas nuclide abundances and isotopic ratios of the upmost layer of Fe-Mn crusts from the western and central pacific ocean have been determined. The results indicate that the He and Ar nuclide abundances and isotopic ratios can be classified into two types: low 3He/4He type and high 3He/4He type. The low 3He/4He type is characterized by high 4He abundances of 191×10?9 cm3·STp·g?1 on average, with variable 4He, 20ne and 40Ar abundances in the range (42.8?421)×10?9 cm3·STp·g?1, (5.40?141)×10?9 cm3·STp·g?1, and (773?10976)×10?9 cm3·STp·g?1, respectively. The high 3He/4He samples are characterized by low 4He abundances of 11.7×10?9 cm3·STp·g?1 on average, with 4He, 20ne and 40Ar abundances in the range of (7.57?17.4)×10?9 cm3·STp·g?1, (10.4?25.5)×10?1 cm3·STp·g?1 and (5354?9050)×10?9 cm3·STp·g?1, respectively. The low 3He/4He samples have 3He/4He ratios (with R/RA ratios of 2.04?2.92) which are lower than those of MoRB (R/R A=8±1) and 40Ar/36Ar ratios (447?543) which are higher than those of air (295.5). The high 3He/4He samples have 3He/4He ratios (with R/R A ratios of 10.4?12.0) slightly higher than those of MoRB (R/R A=8±1) and 40Ar/36Ar ratios (293?299) very similar to those of air (295.5). The ne isotopic ratios (20ne/22ne and 21ne/22ne ratios of 10.3?10.9 and 0.02774?0.03039, respectively) and the 38Ar/36Ar ratios (0.1886?0.1963) have narrow ranges which are very similar to those of air (the 20ne/22ne, 21ne/22ne, 38Ar/36Ar ratios of 9.80, 0.029 and 0.187, respectively), and cannot be differentiated into different groups. The noble gas nuclide abundances and isotopic ratios, together with their regional variability, suggest that the noble gases in the Fe-Mn crusts originate primarily from the lower mantle. The low 3He/4He type and high 3He/4He type samples have noble gas characteristics similar to those of HIMU (High U/pb Mantle)-and EM (Enriched Mantle)-type mantle material, respectively. The complexity of a cancer, such as cell heterogeneity, and the existence of hypoxia, stromai cells and stem cells has so far prevented successful development and treatment of patients suffering from the later stages of cancers. At present, the use of conventional therapies, such as chemo/radio therapy is limited, and only therapies that are focused on utilizing the patient＇s immune response to combat against the disease appear to be the most reliable and promising. Two decades ago, cytokines were discovered to be able to activate the immune systems and mount an anti-tumour response. Then, dendritic cells were hailed as the most significant regulators of immunity and are employed in a variety of cancer management schemes. This review introduces current development in the field, focusing on combination of the components of ＇he rapidly growing fields of immunotherapy and gene transfer/therapy, providing useful and significant detailed information for readers of cellular and molecular immunology.

The parameters at the symmetrical axis of a cylindrical plume characterize the strength of this plume and provide a boundary condition which must be given to investigate the structure of a plume. For newtonian fluid with a temperature-and pressure-dependence viscosity, an asymptotical solution of hydrodynamic equations at the symmetrical axis of the plume is found in the present paper. The temperature, upward velocity and viscosity at the symmetrical axis have been obtained as functions of depth, The calculated results have been given for two typical sets of newtonian rheological parameters. The results obtained show that the temperature distribution along the symmetrical axis is nearly independent of the theological parameters. The upward velocity at the symmetrical axis, however, is strongly dependent on the rheological parameters.

Biomaterial Based on Doped Calcium Carbonate-phosphate for Active osteogenesis

Doped calcium carbonate-phosphate is a biocompatible material that influence actively on the osteogenesis, bone regenerate, strengthening of bone and dental tissues including through the skin. A mechanism of the synthesis reactions of doped nanocrystalline calcium carbonate-phosphate an oscillating type of model for these reactions is proposed. The results indicate that the synthesis involves the formation of hydroxy carbonate complexes from the three calcium carbonate polymorphs (calcite, vaterite, and aragonite) in a solution of ammonium chloride and ammonium carbonate, followed by reaction with orthophosphoric acid. The formation of nanocrystalline calcium carbonate-phosphate doped with Fe2+, Mg2+, Zn2+, K+, Si4+, and Mn2+, has been studied by X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, differential thermal analysis, and energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence analysis. This ensures the preparation of a bioactive material based on octacalcium hydrogen phosphate, and calcium chloride hydroxide phosphates containing cation vacancies. particle-size analysis data show that the materials contain nanoparticles down to 10 nm in size. Heat treatment of the doped calcium carbonate phosphates produces calcium hydroxyapatite containing cation vacancies, which can be used as a bioactive ceramic.

Selective ligninolysis of wheat straw and wood chips by the white-rot fungus Lentinula edodes and its influence on in vitro rumen degradability

Background： The present work investigated the influence of lignin content and composition in the fungal treatment of lignocellulosic biomass in order to improve rumen degradability. Wheat straw and wood chips,differing in lignin composition, were treated with Lentinula edodes for 0, 2, 4, 8 and 12 wk and the changes occurring during fungal degradation were analyzed using pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and detergent fiber ***： L. edodes preferentially degraded lignin, with only limited cellulose degradation, in wheat straw and wood chips, leaving a substrate enriched in cellulose. Syringyl（S）-lignin units were preferentially degraded than guaiacyl（G）-lignin units, resulting in a decreased S/G ratio. A decreasing S/G ratio（wheat straw： r =-0.72, wood chips： r =-0.75） and selective lignin degradation（wheat straw： r =-0.69, wood chips： r =-0.88） were correlated with in vitro gas production（IVGp）, a good indicator for rumen ***： L. edodes treatment increased the IVGp of wheat straw and wood chips. Effects on IVGp were similar for wheat straw and wood chips indicating that lignin content and 3D-structure of cell walls influence in vitro rumen degradability more than lignin composition.
