Study of Factors That Influence the Sustainability of Agricultural Development in the Bobonaro Municipality, Timor-Leste

The aim of the study is to assess the factors that influence the sustainability of agricultural development. The study was carried out in the municipality of Bobonaro for about four months, from July to October 2021. Slovin’s method was used to determine the sample size, with a desired percentage of 10% of the total population. Thus, 154 producers were interviewed as respondents and key persons in the area of agriculture. The variables interviewed are the main factors of agricultural productivity and the factors that affect sustainable agricultural development. The results of the descriptive statistical analysis of the data showed that about 94.87% of the respondents’ productive area is in operation, with an average of 1.84 ha per respondent and the abandoned area around 0.11 ha per respondent. The average value of rice production is 2.38 ton per ha and corn 1.07 ton per ha. About 87% of producers raised the main types of animals such as cattle, pigs, goats with an average density of 2 to 5 animals per establishment. About 61% of producers have access to the market at a normal price for agricultural products. The factors that hinder less successful agricultural development, such as: those of nature with the greatest impact are climate changes, which influence changes in cultivation sessions and in the characteristics of productive soils, availability of water for irrigation and animal feed. On the socioeconomic side, it includes the willingness or interest of young people who want to work as farmers, less investment and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is concluded that natural and socioeconomic impacts can reduce agricultural productivity, so that this will be a major challenge for the development of the agricultural sector in the future.

Genetic factors and gene polymorphisms leading to the onset of autoimmune response in autoimmune hepatitis(AIH)are still not full *** the CTLA-4 molecule is a key modulator of the lymphocytes responses we hypothezied that deficiencies or mutations in the gene encoding CTLA4 protein may be involved in AIH susceptibility and trigger the autoimmune *** investigated 3 distinct polymorphic sites(t49A>G,CT60 G>A and e318C>T)of the CTLA4 gene in 50 AIH patients and 100 healthy controls using the KASP genotyping technology.A significant positive association with AIH susceptibility was found for the GG genotype in t49 position of the CTLA4 gene which was significantly higher in AIH patients compared to controls(28%vs 9%,pZ0.003,ORZ3.93[1.56e9.88]).The CTLA4 A/A genotype in position CT60 was more significantly frequent in controls comparing to AIH patients and could be considered as a protective genotype for the tunisian ***4 genotyping in position318 did not show any statistically significant difference in genotype or allele *** CTLA4 gene polymorphism in position t49 is associated to AIH susceptibility in the Tunisian *** in the CTLA4 gene may lead to a modification of the CTLA4 protein structure that could have functional relevance in AIH pathogenesis and onset.

Pesticide Contamination in Land Reform Settlements in Brazil： Empirical Evidences from Caiaponia, Goias State

Brazil is the largest consumer of pesticides worldwide. Public health studies in Brazil show that inadequate use of pesticides increases the incidence of accidents and contamination of poor rural communities. This study sought to identify factors that determine the occurrence of problems with pesticides in a typical Brazilian land reform settlement. The study was carried out in Caiaponia, Goias state. In the empirical analysis, the econometric model pro bit was used. The dependent variable was the existence of health problems in the family setting that are caused by pesticides. The independent variables were the family size; the attendance to any church, whether Catholic or Protestant; if farmers received any technical assistance; the current health condition of the family, and if there are exacerbated erosion problems on the farm. data from 28 farmers were collected through a structured questionnaire. Among the main findings, larger families have a higher probability of accidents involving pesticides. The current healthy conditions of family and the problems of soiled gradation in the farm imply are duction in the likelihood of contamination with pesticides. These two results indicate that rural households that have good health condition and have experienced environmental degradation on their farm have higher environmental awareness.

Non-hematopoietic cells contribute to protective tolerance to Aspergillus fumigatus via a TRIF pathway converging on IDO

Parkin protein expression and its impact on survival of patients with advanced colorectal cancer

Objective:Features of colorectal cancer such as natural history,molecular,chromosomal,and epigenetic alterations have been well ***,there is still a lack of accurate prognostic markers,which is evident by the lower overall survival rates of patients with advanced *** alterations in parkin protein expression have been described in colorectal cancer,the functional significance of this protein remains *** present study aimed to investigate the involvement of parkin expression in colorectal adenocarcinoma development and progression by evaluating the association between its expression,clinicopathological parameters,and expression of known proteins involved in colorectal ***:Tissue microarrays consisting of 73 tumor and 64 normal tissue samples were generated to examine parkin expression and localization by ***:A positive correlation of parkin and APC expression was observed in the superficial,intermediate,and profound regions of all cases(ρ=0.37;P=0.001).Parkin expression was also significantly associated with tumors in men(P=0.049),those of the mucinous subtype(P=0.028),and of advanced stage(III+IV,P=0.041).In addition,increased parkin expression was observed in the invasive front tumor region(P=0.013).More importantly,a positive correlation was found between parkin expression and the overall survival of patients with advanced colorectal cancer(P=0.019).Multivariate analysis showed that parkin expression was independent of any of the clinicopathological parameters evaluated in relation to patient ***:These results suggest that parkin expression status can be used as a potential independent prognostic marker of survival in advanced colorectal cancer.

Dectin- 1 isoforms contribute to distinct Th 1/Th 17 cell activation in mucosal candidiasis

The recognition of p-glucans by dectin-1 has been shown to mediate cell activation, cytokine production and a variety of antifungal responses. Here, we report that the functional activity of dectin-1 in mucosal immunity to Candida albicans is influenced by the genetic background of the host. Dectin-1 was required for the proper control of gastrointestinal and vaginal candidiasis in C57BIJ6, but not BALB/c mice; in fact, the latter showed increased resistance in the absence of dectin-1. The susceptibility of dectin-l-deficient C57BL/6 mice to infection was associated with defects in IL-17A and aryl hydrocarbon receptor-dependent IL-22 production and in adaptive Th I responses. In contrast, the resistance of dectin- 1-deficient BALB/c mice was associated with increased IL-17A and IL-22 production and the skewing towards Thl/Treg immune responses that provide immunological memory. Disparate canonical/ noncanonical NF-KB signaling pathways downstream of dectin-1 were activated in the two different mouse strains. Thus, the net activity of dectin-1 in antifungal mucosal immunity is dependent on the host＇s genetic background, which affects both the innate cytokine production and the adaptive Th1/Th17 cell activation upon dectin-1 signaling.

Why Brazilian Women Are Not on Top： The Work-Life Reconciliation Hypothesis

The female presence in middle management is already significant in Brazil. Yet, women hold only 7% of the board seats. Why are there so few women in corpomtive top ranks？ Is it possible that prejudice and sexism work selectively, allowing women to ascend not beyond a certain point in corporate hierarchy？ This paper rejects such a perspective and aims at understanding the dynamics that drive women against the executive suite. The premise beneath this research is that women are not victims, but autonomous individuals. In order to test the hypothesis of Brazilian women choosing not to ascend, the first step was to analyze Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics＇（IBGE） data on work force and employment. Thereafter, the research explores the possibility that organizational dynamics is a major factor for women to deal with work-life issues. Studies of scientific organizations show that flexibility helps conciliate work and life. The conclusion is： if corporations could emulate the scientific organizational environment, probably they would not only attract more women to the executive suite, but also adapt to a transforming society.

Climate change and rapid urbanization are pressing environmental and social concerns, with approximately 56% of the global population living in urban areas. This number is expected to rise to 68% by 2050, leading to the expansion of cities and encroachment upon natural areas, including wetlands, causing their degradation and fragmentation. To mitigate these challenges, green and blue infrastructures (GBIs), such as constructed wetlands, have been proposed to emulate and replace the functions of natural wetlands. This study evaluates the potential of eight constructed wetlands near Beijing, China, focusing on their ecosystem services (ESs), cost savings related to human health, growing/maintenance expenses, and disservices using an emergy-based assessment procedure. The results indicate that all constructed wetlands effectively purify wastewater, reducing nutrient concentrations (e.g., total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and total suspended solids). Among the studied wetlands, the integrated vertical subsurface flow constructed wetland (CW-4) demonstrates the highest wastewater purification capability (1.63E+14 sej/m^(2)/yr) compared to other types (6.78E+13 and 2.08E+13 sej/m^(2)/yr). Additionally, constructed wetlands contribute to flood mitigation, groundwater recharge, wildlife habitat protection, and carbon sequestration, resembling the functions of natural wetlands. However, the implementation of constructed wetlands in cities is not without challenges, including greenhouse gas emissions, green waste management, mosquito issues, and disturbances in the surrounding urban areas, negatively impacting residents. The ternary phase diagram reveals that all constructed wetlands provide more benefits than costs and impacts. CW-4 shows the highest benefit-cost ratio, reaching 50%, while free water surface constructed wetland (CW-3) exhibits the lowest benefits (approximately 38%), higher impacts (approximately 25%), and lower costs (approximately 37%) compared to other we
