Stimulation of Selected Cellulases from Trichoderma reesei with White Linearly Polarized Light

The impact of the illumination with white linearly polarized light (WLPL) of two commercially available cellulases from Trichoderma reesei on their activity in hydrolysis of microcrystalline cellulose was studied. Enzymes were illuminated with WLPL for 60 min and 120 min and for each native and illuminated enzyme sample specific activity and kinetics of enzyme catalyzed hydrolysis of microcrystalline cellulose were established. Molecular weight Mw and radii if gyration Rg of protein chains of native and illuminated enzymes were measured by means of high pressure size exclu-sion chromatography coupled with multiangle laser light scattering and refractometric detectors (HPSEC-MALLS-RI). Conformations of protein chains of native and illuminated enzymes were evaluated on the basis of their circular dichroism (CD) spectra. Additionally, molecular weight Mw and radii of gyration Rg of polysaccharide chains of microcrystalline cellulose native and digested for 10 min, 480 min and 1440 min with original and WLPL stimulated enzymes WT and TR were taken. Illumination with WLPL of both cellulases studied did not change secondary structures of protein molecules of native enzyme. Molecular weight Mw and radii of gyration Rg of illuminated enzymes differed greatly from those found for native enzymes. Illumination of enzymes led to increase of specific activity and rate constants of reaction of hydrolysis microcrystalline cellulose catalyzed by illuminated enzymes as compared with native enzymes.

Optimized Hot Spot and Directional Distribution Analyses Characterize the Spatiotemporal Variation of Large Wildfires in Washington,USA,1970-2020

Spatiotemporal analysis of fire activity is vital for determining why wildfires occur where they do,assessing wildfire risks,and developing locally relevant wildfire risk reduction *** various spatial statistical methods,we determined hot spots of large wildfires(>100 acres)in Washington,the United States,and mapped spatiotemporal variations in large wildfire activity from 1970 to *** results found that all hot spots are located east of the crest of the Cascade *** spatiotemporal analysis found that the geographic area wherein most of the state’s acres burned has shrunk considerably since 1970 and has become concentrated over the north-central portion of the state over *** concentration of large wildfire activity in north-central Washington was previously unquantified and may provide important information for hazard mitigation efforts in that *** results highlight the advantages of using spatial statistical methods that could aid the development of natural hazard mitigation plans and risk reduction strategies by characterizing previous hazard occurrences spatially and spatiotemporally.

The Ritz-Sublaminate Generalized Unified Formulation approach for piezoelectric composite plates

This paper extends to composite plates including piezoelectric plies the variable kinematics plate modeling approach called Sublaminate Generalized Unified Formulation(SGUF).Two-dimensional plate equations are obtained upon defining a priori the through-thickness distribution of the displacement field and electric *** to SGUF,independent approximations can be adopted for the four components of these generalized displacements:an Equivalent Single Layer(ESL)or Layer-Wise(LW)description over an arbitrary group of plies constituting the composite plate(the sublaminate)and the polynomial order employed in each *** solution of the two-dimensional equations is sought in weak form by means of a Ritz *** this work,boundary functions are used in conjunction with the domain approximation expressed by an orthogonal basis spanned by Legendre *** proposed computational tool is capable to represent electroded surfaces with equipotentiality ***-vibration problems as well as static problems involving actuator and sensor configurations are *** case studies are presented,which demonstrate the high accuracy of the proposed Ritz-SGUF approach.A model assessment is proposed for showcasing to which extent the SGUF approach allows a reduction of the number of unknowns with a controlled impact on the accuracy of the result.

BACKGROUND Vaccine hesitancy is a major challenge in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** the sociodemographic factors associated with vaccine acceptance among Nigerians is crucial for improving vaccine *** To assess the acceptance rate of COVID-19 vaccine and its related determinants among *** An online cross-sectional survey(observational study)was conducted between February 2021 and May 2021,using a questionnaire hosted on *** invitation to take part in the poll was sent out to participants through social networking platforms.A logistic regression was used to determine which sociodemographic factors were associated with vaccine acceptance *** A total of 1800 persons responded to the survey,a larger proportion of whom were males(53.9%)and within the age group of 21-30 years(29.4%)and earned an average income of less than$500 per month(43.3%).Only 0.56%of participants had a high perceived risk of COVID-19 infection,while only 1.11%had a perceived risk of dying from *** perception rate of the COVID-19 vaccine among participants was 51.1%,while the acceptance rate was 63.9%.There was no significant association between the COVID-19 vaccine acceptance rate and related determinants assessed,particularly age(χ²=3.049,P=0.550),sex(χ²=0.102,P=0.749),average income(χ²=3.802,P=0.875),and religion(χ²=2.819,P=0.420).Participants with chronic conditions demonstrated a higher acceptance rate compared to the general *** Despite the positive perception observed and substantial vaccine acceptance rate among the study participants,more public health interventions are still needed to enhance vaccine acceptability in Nigeria.

Impact of Optical Hop Constraints on the IP/MPLS-over-WSON Networks CAPEX

In this work,the impact of hop constraints on the CAPEX of multi-layer IP/MPLS over WSON networks is evaluated under different scenarios. By routing lightpaths with different number of transparent hops,the cost of networks varies significantly. This effect is thoroughly analyzed with a heuristic algorithm for different network topologies belonging to some European network operators. The main conclusion extracted is that limiting the transparent reach in such multi-layer networks can give a good tradeoff between CAPEX of IP/MPLS networks and WSON networks,and even lead to signifi cant savings in CAPEX when compared to longer lightpaths routing strategies.
