Geographic integration of hepatitis C virus: A global threat

AIM To assess hepatitis C virus(HCV) geographic integration, evaluate the spatial and temporal evolution of HCV worldwide and propose how to diminish its burden. METHODS A literature search of published articles was performed using Pub Med, MEDLINE and other related databases up to December 2015. A critical data assessment and analysis regarding the epidemiological integration of HCV was carried out using the meta-analysis method. RESULTS The data indicated that HCV has been integrated immensely over time and through various geographical regions worldwide. The history of HCV goes back to 1535 but between 1935 and 1965 it exhibited a rapid, exponential spread. This integration is clearly seen in the geo-epidemiology and phylogeography of HCV. HCV integration can be mirrored either as intra-continental or trans-continental. Migration, drug trafficking and HCV co-infection, together with other potential risk factors, have acted as a vehicle for this integration. Evidence shows that the geographic integration of HCV has been important in the global and regional distribution of *** HCV geographic integration is clearly evident and this should be reflected in the prevention and treatment of this ongoing pandemic.

Consensus and inconsistency between different consensus documents on renal denervation worldwide:the way forward

Given the unsatisfactory hypertension control rates and high rates of non-adherence to antihypertensive medications worldwide,device therapy which can safely provide durable blood pressure-lowering effects can fulfill the unmet need.A series of second-generation randomized sham-controlled renal denervation(RDN)trials have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of RDN in a wide range of hypertensive *** four representative consensus documents on RDN(from the Chinese Taiwan Hypertension Society and Taiwan Society of Cardiology[THS/TSOC 2019],Asia Renal Denervation Consortium 2019,European Society of Hypertension[ESH 2021],and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography&Intervention and National Kidney Foundation[SCAI/NKF 2021])consistently recommend RDN as an alternative or complementary treatment strategy for patients with uncontrolled *** addition,both documents from Asia further recommend that RDN can be considered as an initial treatment strategy for drug-naïve hypertensive *** is still inconsistency regarding whether ambulatory blood pressure monitoring should be used routinely both before and after RDN,and whether patients with a secondary cause of hypertension could be treated with RDN if their blood pressure remains uncontrolled after definitive treatment(treatment-resistant secondary hypertension).The THS/TSOC consensus provides acronyms to summarize key aspects of patient selection(RDNi2)and pre-RDN assessments(RAS).The ESH and SCAI/NKF documents recommend establishing structured pathways for clinical practice and issues regarding *** documents identify knowledge gaps in RDN,from identifying predictors of super-responders to demonstrating effects on cardiovascular *** gaps should be urgently filled to facilitate the wider application of this device therapy for patients with hypertension.

Synthesis and pharmacological activity evaluation of curcumin derivatives

Curcumin 3,4-dihydropyrimidinones/thiones/imines have been synthesized using one-pot cyclocondensation of curcumin with substituted aromatic aldehydes and urea/thiourea/guanidine in the presence of chitosamine hydrochloride as a biodegradable and nontoxic catalyst under solvent-free microwave *** synthesized product was purified by crystallization from ethanol and the process does not involve any hazardous *** the synthesized curcumin derivatives 4a-o were screened for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory *** activity data of the synthesized showed that most of the synthesized compounds exhibited greater antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity than curcumin.

The UCR time series archive–introduced in 2002,has become an important resource in the time series data mining community,with at least one thousand published papers making use of at least one data set from the *** original incarnation of the archive had sixteen data sets but since that time,it has gone through periodic *** last expansion took place in the summer of 2015 when the archive grew from 45 to 85 data *** paper introduces and will focus on the new data expansion from 85 to 128 data *** expanding this valuable resource,this paper offers pragmatic advice to anyone who may wish to evaluate a new algorithm on the ***,this paper makes a novel and yet actionable claim:of the hundreds of papers that show an improvement over the standard baseline(1-nearest neighbor classification),a fraction might be mis-attributing the reasons for their ***,the improvements claimed by these papers might have been achievable with a much simpler modification,requiring just a few lines of code.

Effects of afforestation of agricultural land with grey alder(Alnus incana(L.) Moench)on soil chemical properties, comparing two contrasting soil groups

Background: Natural afforestation of former agricultural lands with alder species is common in Europe. Symbiotic nitrogen fixation by actinomycetes associated with alder species has been widely used for improvement of soil properties of abandoned agricultural lands, but relatively little is known of the interactions of these processes with soil type and chemical composition. We conducted a space-for time study with soil sampling under and outside grey alder tree canopies on two different soil groups to explore effects of colonisation of former agricultural lands by alder on soil ***: The results were analysed using analysis of variance. During the first 25 years after afforestation of former agricultural lands there was a significant increase in content of Ctot, Ntot, K+, Fe3+, Mn2+and available P in the topsoil(0–10 cm and 11–20 cm) of Dystric Arenosols soils, which are deficient in organic matter. Such trends were not evident in organic matter rich Endostagnic Umbrisols soils, in which exchangeable K+concentration decreased and exchangeable Fe3+and Al3+concentration ***: The results show that the effects of grey alder on soil chemical properties depend on initial soil properties. The invasion of agricultural land by grey alder leads to spatial variability of soil chemical properties creating a mosaic pattern.

Characterization of Intellectuals in Short Stories ofNam Cao （Viemam） and Lu Xun （China）

Nam Cao and Lu Xun are among high-profile writers who gain wide appreciation. The movements of literary assert this over the latter half of recent century in our country. That reality persistently points us to an urgent need for researches on Nam Cao and Lu Xun. Tints of literary worldviews of Nam Cao and Lu Xun, though upon which numberless research works, both domestic and foreign, have provided multi-directional insights and exploration of artistic creativities, remain misevaluated. B ich Thu, the author of Nam Cao, His Life and Legacies, counted out 191 articles and books themed Nam Cao. They were edited by writers of Nam Cao＇s generation namely Nguyen Huy Tuong, Nguyen Dinh Thi, To Hoai and Nguyen Hong, and even distinguished scholars such as Ha Minh Duc, Phong Le and Nguyen Dang Manh, so on. Regarding Lu Xun, there is no denying the fact of his brilliant artistic ideology. Although Vietnamese readers have gained a late knowledge of him for just a half of century, his name is laid somewhere in the heart of our people, integrally and consistently. Vietnam＇s reader generations restlessly learn about and research on Lu Xun. A pioneering merit badge should be rewarded to the renowned literary critic Dang Thai Mai, for his introduction and translation of Lu Xun to Vietnamese readers since 1943. The most interesting coincidence of Nam Cao and Lu Xun is that their profiles are imbued with the characters in their compositions. Mentioning Lu Xun cannot help a reference to AQ, meanwhile the name ofNam Cao apparently recalls a Philistine Chi. AQ as well as Philistine Chi have become characters of the society＇s spiritual life and long live with the eternal brilliance of their two creators. That coincidence draws countless number of researchers. The ＂matching point＂, referring to the subject of farmers and intellectuals, between Nam Cao and Lu Xun＇s works has been explored to some certain extent. This elicitly invites us for deeper studies. Simple Remarks of The True Story of Ah Q and Chi Pheo

Ah Q and Chi Pheo are two typical figures created by two writers, Lu Xun of China and Nam Cao of Vietnam Authors use the typical method to create the artistic image which has the distinct individuality and can reflect certain social essence. ＂Ah Q＂ and ＂Chi Pheo＂ though in different nationalities and different age （Ah Q in the modern history stage 1911, Chi Pheo in the modem history of stage 1941）, but both are in the historical stage of the Eastern feudal society. Therefore, it can be considered that Lu Xun and Nam Cao are contemporaries. Besides, these two writers are deeply interested in the subject matter of the underclass farmers, so there are differences between the two typical characters. It is not surprising that the characters of＂Ah Q＂ and ＂Chi Pheo＂ walk from the novel to the screen, from the big screen to every corner of the lives of the people of the two countries, let the past. Present and future people can not forget them. Through the method of portraying characters, readers can further understand Lu Xun and Nam Cao＇s creative art thoughts. Preliminary Study on the Magnetic Properties of GeMn Nanocolumn/Ge Multilayers

Ge0.94Mn0.06 nanocolumn thin film is a unique phase of GeMn diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS) which exhibit Curie temperature (TC) > 400 K. The multilayers of Ge0.94Mn0.06 nanocolumns separated by nano-scaled spacers represent great interests for spintronic applications, such as spin valves or giant magneto-resistance (GMR) multilayers. In this article, we present the results obtained from the preliminary study on the exchange coupling in two types of GeMn nanocolumn/Ge multilayers. All the samples have been grown using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer has been used to determine the magnetic properties of the samples. In the multilayer system Ge/[Ge0.94Mn0.06(40 nm)/Ge(d nm)]9/Ge0.94Mn0.06(40 nm)/Ge, no exchange coupling can be observed. Inversely, exchange coupling between the layers exists and depends on the thickness of the Ge spacers for the GeMn nanocolumns/Ge multilayer spin valve systems. The exchange coupling in the nanocolumns multilayer systems has been shown to be complex due to the leakage field induced by neighboring nanocolumns and the magnetic anisotropy of nanocolumns.

Effect of Variety and Size of Stem Cutting on Flesh Root Yield and Yield Components of Sweet Potato

Sweet potato is an important food crop which contributes to food security. Storage roots are stored in the ground and harvested when needed. In coastal Kenya, the production of the crop is limited by lack of adaptable varieties and shortage of planting materials at the onset of long rains. The prevailing prices of sweet potato vines for planting present a hindrance for sweet potato cultivation culminating to low acreages by farmers. This study was carried out during the long rains of 2011 to 2013 to determine the effect of variety and size of sweet potato cutting on root yield. Four sweet potato varieties were planted under four stem cutting sizes of four, six, eight and 10 nodes. The four varieties were K135, Bungoma, SPK004 and Mtwapa 8 （check）. The experimental design was a split plot with varieties assigned to main plots and cutting sizes to sub-plots. The number of roots per plant for Bungoma variety was significantly （P 〈 0.05） less than that for the check, and variety K135 showed significantly （P 〈 0.05） higher number of marketable root per plant than the check. The same trend was observed for root yield per hectare. The check variety had the highest percent of dry matter and was significantly higher than that of SPK004 and Bungoma varieties. There were no significant （P 〈 0.05） differences among the stem cutting sizes as regards to number of roots per plant, number of marketable root per plant and percent of dry matter. The cutting size of six nodes gave similar root yield as the recommended eight nodes, and therefore farmers can adopt shorter vines than the recommended, hence saving on the cost of planting materials.
