Sediment constitutes an interesting and valuable material for observation of human impact on the *** on the sediment core samples in two Tatra Mountains lakes,determination of the selected elements（including cesium 137 radionuclide activity and heavy metals' concentrations） and dating of the obtained layers by the lead 210 method,chemometric analysis of the resulting data set was *** was established,as a result of Cluster Analysis,that the variability of the determined parameters was distinct in the lakes with much higher concentrations of heavy metals in Smreczynski staw ***,the influence of human activity（long distance transport of contaminants） is notable on the north slopes of the Tatras（Smreczynski staw lake） comparing to Popradske pleso *** examined elements can be divided into two groups-natural to the site origin（iron,manganese,and magnesium）,and elements whose accumulation in the sediments can be related（at least in part） to human activity(137Cs,zinc,copper,cadmium,lead,and chromium).The results confirm the existence of the so called "screen effect",meaning that the Tatra Mountains' crest delimits to a considerable extent further transport of pollutants to the south side of the Tatra Mountains slopes.

The aim of the research was to connect two methods of the chemical control. The first chemical treatments were applied according to the signalling method. The second method was applied according to the phonological criterion i.e., on the basis of the values of effective temperatures sums or heat sums for cutworms. The studies on cutworms infesting sugar beet crops were carried out in the years 2005-2008. The observation performed during the moth flights from May to September included two species, turnip moth （Agrotis segetum Den. ＆ Schiff.） and heart-and-dart moth （A. exclamationis L.）. The dynamics of moth flights was recorded in reference to readings of climatic conditions registered with the field meteorological stations set up near the light traps. Observations on cutworm occurrence during the vegetation season were done every 5-7 days. Moreover, additional studies were conducted under control conditions in the growth chambers at three programmed temperatures （17°C, 20 °C, 24 °C） and relative humidity （50%-70%）. Based on the results the values for the heat sum of 501.1 °C and effective temperatures sum of 230.0 °C were determined for the developmental stages of cutworm. On the base of the results obtained it can be stated that the improved method of short-term forecasting can be an alternative solution in the integrated protection management against pest.

Bone Mineral Density and Vitamin D Status in Children with Chronic Neurological Syndromes—Clinical Observations

Background: Some of the risk factors for osteoporosis population include: chronic immobilisation, insufficient dietary supply of calcium and vitamin D, decreased physical activity and long-term pharmacological treatment (glucocorticoids, anticonvulsant drugs). In disabled children and adolescents, the negative impact of these factors may cumulate to considerably impair the quality of life. Objectives: The aim of our study was to assess the vitamin D status and bone mineral density in children with chronic neurological syndromes. Material and Methods: A total of 34 children between 3 and 18 years of age were examined: 9 children with muscular dystrophy, 17 with cerebral palsy and 8 with lumbar myelomeningocele. All the subjects underwent the following assessments: measurement of the concentration of the hepatic metabolite of vitamin D and total body less head and/or lumbar spine densitometry by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Low bone mass or low bone mineral density was diagnosed if the Z-score value was found to be equal to or below −2.0. Results: Indications for the above tests were chronic immobilisation or motor activity restriction, and—in 10/34 children—femoral or vertebral fracture. Vitamin D deficiency (81%). Low bone mass on densitometry was demonstrated in 27/34 and osteoporosis in 10/34 subjects (Z-score ≤−2.0). Conclusion: Bone densitometry should be included in the standard of care for children with chronic neurological syndromes, and early detection of low bone mass should be an indication for treatment with calcium and vitamin D.

In this work we present experimental results on the behavior of diamond at megabar pressure. The experiment was performed using the PHELIX facility at GSI in Germany to launch a planar shock into solid multi-layered diamond samples. The target design allows shock velocity in diamond and in two metal layers to be measured as well as the free surface velocity after shock breakout. As diagnostics, we used two velocity interferometry systems for any reflector(VISARs). Our measurements show that for the pressures obtained in diamond(between 3 and 9 Mbar),the propagation of the shock induces a reflecting state of the material. Finally, the experimental results are compared with hydrodynamical simulations in which we used different equations of state, showing compatibility with dedicated SESAME tables for diamond.
