Homopterocarpin contributes to the restoration of gastric homeostasis by Pterocarpus erinaceus following indomethacin intoxication in rats

The increasing popularity of herbal medicine and the well-established health benefits of phytochemicals have spurred the multiplicity of nutraceutical and phytopharmaceutical *** this study,Trévo^TM,a nutraceutical and phytopharmaceutical product,was evaluated for beneficial effects in acetaminophen-induced hepatic toxicity in Wistar *** received Trévo^TM(1.5 mL/kg,3.0 mL/kg or 4.5 mL/kg)orally for 14 *** was induced by the oral administration of acetaminophen(2 g/kg),24 h prior to *** liver function tests,oxidative stress indicators and histoarchitectural changes were *** administration occasioned significant increase(Pctivities of the aminotransferases,alkaline phosphatase,γ-glutamyltransferase and lactate dehydrogenase accompanied by a significant decrease(Pcal alterations in liver *** of hepatic oxidative stress by acetaminophen was revealed by significant(Pcrease in lipid peroxidation,depletion of reduced glutathione,and decrease in superoxide dismutase and catalase *** of Trévo^TM remarkably ameliorated acetaminophen-induced histopathological alterations and changes in serum and tissue biochemical *** protective effect of Trévo^TM(4.5 mL/kg)was at par with that of Silymarin(25 mg/kg).The present study indicates that Trévo^TM has notable salubrious effects.

Determining the adsorption of shale gas on complex surfaces remains a challenge in molecular simulation *** essentially stem from the need to create a realistic shale structure model in terms of mineral heterogeneityand ***,precise characterization of the competitive adsorption of hydrogen andmethane in shale generally requires the experimental determination of the related adsorptive *** thisstudy,the adsorption of adsorbates,methane(cH_(4)),and hydrogen(H_(2))on heterogeneous shale surface modelsof Kaolinite,Orthoclase,Muscovite,Mica,c_(60),and Butane has been simulated in the frame of a moleculardynamic’s numerical *** results show that these behaviors are influenced by pressure and *** increasing the pressure from 500 to 2000 psi,the sorption effect for cH_(4)significantly increasesbut shows a decline at a certain stage(if compared to H_(2)).The research findings also indicate that raw shalehas a higher capacity to adsorb cH_(4)compared to ***,in shale,this difference is negligible.

Mobola plum seed methanolic extracts exhibit mixed type inhibition of angiotensinⅠ-converting enzyme in vitro

Objective: To explore the possible inhibitory potentials and mechanism by Mobola plum(Parinari curatellifolia) seeds crude methanol(cE) and flavonoid-rich(FE) extracts on angiotensin-1-converting enzyme(AcE Ⅰ).Methods: The sensitivity and kinetic model of inhibition of cE and FE on AcE Ⅰ using N-[3-(2-furyl)-acryloyl]-Phe-Gly-Gly as enzyme substrate for AcE Ⅰ was evaluated by Michealis Menten approach. The inhibition mechanism was explored from Lineweaver–Burk model and Ic_(50) was determined from cheng–Prusoff empirical ***: The Ic_(50) of cE and FE were 13.54 and 39.38 mg/m L, respectively. Both extracts exhibited mixed type inhibition with the inhibitory constant(K_i) of cE was between0.38 and 0.37 mg/m L while that of FE showed a two-fold increase(1.62 mg/mL and0.28 mg/mL). FE on AcE Ⅰ demonstrated positive cooperativity with a Hill's coefficient ***: The study reveals the superior AcE Ⅰ inhibitory potential of cE over FE and suggest that mixed inhibition pattern of the enzyme might be the underlying mechanism of antihypertensive activity.

Objective: To examine the influence of Glyphaea (G.) brevis twig extract on the mitochondrial dehydrogenase activity, integrity of the tight junctions between adjacent cells, mitochondria, apoptosis, nucleus and expression of inhibin-β, stem cell factor, and androgen binding protein in TM4 Sertoli cells. Methods: TM4 cell line was used in this study as it exhibited properties similar to the Sertoli cells. TM4 Sertoli cells were exposed to G. brevis twig extract (0.1, 1.0, 10.0, 100.0, or 1000.0μg/mL) for 24, 48 and 72 h. Parameters studied included cell viability [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide assay], mitochondrial membrane potential (tetra methyl rhodamine ethyl ester dye), transepithelial electrical resistance, apoptosis (Annexin V Alexa Fluor?488/propidium iodide assay) and mRNA expression (quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction). Results: G. brevis twig extract had no cytotoxic impact on cell viability, thus, considerably increasing the activity of mitochondrial dehydrogenase enzyme after 24 and 72 h exposure. Transepithelial electrical resistance values revealed substantial (Pcially after 72 h of treatment. Moreover, there was a significant decrease in mitochondrial depolarization of TM4 Sertoli cells exposed to G. brevis twig extract when compared to controls. In addition, G. brevis twig extract significantly reduced necrosis and apoptosis of TM4 Sertoli cells when compared to control. Nevertheless, fluorescence microscopy revealed that the nuclei were egg-shaped and marked uniformly with consistent cell shape at the middle of the TM4 Sertoli cells. Significant stimulatory effects were observed on mRNA levels of inhibin-β, androgen binding protein and stem cell factor. conclusions: G. brevis twig extract may increase the secretory roles of TM4 Sertoli cells, cells proliferation, as well as cell-cell tight junction integrity. Thus, G. brevis twig may enhance spermatogenesis

Objective:To determine the prevalence of tick-borne pathogens with a particular focus on Rickettsia *** ticks collected from cattle in Gauteng and Limpopo Provinces,South ***:A total of 200 ticks were collected from cattle within the Madala livestock,Pretoria,Gauteng Province and in Mankweng Township,Polokwane,Limpopo Province in *** ticks were morphologically identified and processed individually for a total genomic DNA *** primers targetting ompA,ompB,and the 17KDa genes were used for a molecular screening and delineation of Rickettsia from the extracted genetic materials using polymerase chain reaction(PcR)*** amplicons of positive samples were sequenced bidirectionally using the Sanger sequencing *** generated were processed and analysed using appropriate bioinformatics ***:The ticks were morphologically identified as Amblyomma *** profiling of the genomic DNA samples revealed the presence of the Rickettsia pathogen in 42(21%)of the ticks collected from both *** of the genes profiled,14(7%)were positive for 17KDa,42(21%)for ompA and 32(16%)were positive for ompB genes *** nucleotide blast of the sequenced genomes showed high similarity,as high as 100% with other reference Rickettsia(R.)africae in the *** phylogenetic analysis of the sequences further validated them as *** with their characteristic clustering pattern with related reference ***:There is an abundance of *** in Amblyomma ticks collected from cattle in the study *** has serious public health implications as individuals who accidentally get infested with the ticks could acquire ***,adequate precautions in terms of sensitization of farmers about the risk and mass mobilization drive to control the vectors in the areas are highly recommended to safeguard public health.

Introduction:Rapid-onset obesity with hypothalamic dysfunction,hypoventilation,and autonomic dysregulation(ROHHAD)syndrome is an exceptionally rare clinical entity with significant morbidity and high mortality with challenging-to-treat *** presentation:An 11-year-old morbidly obese chinese female presented with a putative diagnosis of ROHHAD associated with a left psoas *** polysomnography showed severe obstructive sleep apnea and *** was not adherent to prescribed non-invasive positive pressure ventilation(NIPPV).Echocardiography demonstrated evidence of pulmonary hypertension,likely secondary to chronic *** behavioral modification and trial of average volume-assured pressure support(AVAPS),adherence improved with eventual improvement of her pulmonary ***:AVAPS may improve ventilation and NIPPV adherence in central hypoventilation disorders such as ROHHAD,reducing risk of morbidity and mortality.

Heavy metal accumulation in the above-ground vegetation and soil around an iron smelting factory in Ile-Ife, southwestern Nigeria

This study investigated the accumulation of heavy metals in the above-ground vegetation and soil around an iron smelting factory located at the Fashina Area, Ile-Ife, Osun State, southwestern Nigeria. This was with a view to establish baseline data which can be used for assessing the impact of the steel processing industry in the area. Samples of the two most common herbaceous species （chromolaena odorata and Aspilia africana） around the factory were randomly collected at 10 m away from the wall of the factory, and soil samples were randomly collected at 0-15 cm depths in the same area. The plant species were oven-dried, put through a mixed acid digestion procedure, and, along with soil samples, were analyzed for N, P, K, c, Zn, Pb, cd, Ni, and cr using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The data obtained were subjected to appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical analyses. The results revealed that the soils were slightly acidic, with pH values of 6.23±0.24 in the dry season and 6.10±0.16 in the rainy season. There was a significant difference （P 〈0.05） in the percentage content of total N, total P, K, and organic matter values in the soil samples collected in the two seasons. The cd, Pb, and cr contents in the soil samples from the rainy season were significantly higher （P 〈0.05） than those of the dry season. The analyzed plant species showed a progressive decrease in the concentration of the elements tested, with percentage content of c 〉 P 〉 N in both Aspilia africana and chromolaena odorata. In the dry season, c percentage concentration was higher in Aspilia africana, while the other elements followed the trend observed in the rainy season. The concentration of Zn was higher in Aspilia af- ricana in both the polluted site and the control site in the rainy season, while the concentrations of the other heavy metals were higher in chromolaena odorata in the dry season. 维修在铁路系统中具有至关重要的作用。铁路基础设施的建设涉及大量投资,因此需要保持其可靠性,可用性和可持续性,以尽可能防止意外或中断发生是非常重要的。本文以尼日利亚铁路线路为例,建立了以最小化维修作业费用的数学规划模型,以提供有效的运营服务。本文针对铁路系统中较脆弱的部分,即“道岔/控制开关”。道岔包括基础设施(轨道),控制开关(S&c),它们都需要持续监测和维护。S&c部件导致的任何故障通常会导致列车延误、取消,甚至脱轨和可能导致乘客死亡或受伤的事故。因此,需要增加检查、测试和维护,以确保这些部件处于良好状态。然而,已有研究指出,道岔在更换之时还没有达到最大寿命,导致了许多资金的浪费。过度维护,即在没有必要时进行维护操作。这都给铁路维护预算带来了巨大的维护成本。因此,本文研究的目的是防止过度维修情况发生,并实际运用到尼日利亚新的标准规范线上。文献综述部分给出了道岔预防性维修和维修管理的热点综述。还需要说明的是,基础设施管理部门将维护视为一种优化的投资机会,而不是将成本降至最低。研究人员需要针对实际情况建立更有效的维修方法。因此,本研究建立了的数学模型MOM来优化预防性维修作业和道岔维护。MOM属于整数线性规划问题(ILP),可采用IBM ILOG cPLEX Optimization Studio求解。模型优化使得具有相同作业的维修活动在同一时间段之内完成,从而减少在道岔/控制开关上所需作业的次数。人力和物流成本的降低,反过来又促使维护这些道岔所产生的总成本的降低,并且不会违反制造商/设备手册指南和铁路运行标准所规定的铁路安全和标准。本文模型基于尼日利亚铁路公司的实际维护系统,以此作为案例研究进行测试,一些丢失的数据通过随机生成。测试结果表明,模型可在合理的计算时间内求解得到满意的解决方案。最后对模型的结果进行灵敏度分析,并基于对中国铁路维护实践的结果和认知,为如何在尼日利亚铁路线上改进道岔/开关维护系统提供建议,以便最小化总维护成本/降低生命周期成本和提高组件的使用寿命。论文的研究结论为铁路基础设施管理人员提供了相关借鉴意义,以规范他们的维护操作,因为优化研究要求降低预防性维护的总成本,同时确保组件的有效性和延长的预期寿命。最后,MOM是一个灵活性的模型框架,管理层能够根据自己的特定条件和需求,在具有类似情况的道岔/控制开关上实现运用。

Are Drug Efflux Genes Present among <i>Mycobacterium tuberculosis</i>Isolates from Patients in Lagos, Nigeria?

A major challenge in the treatment of Tuberculosis (TB) is emergence of Multi-Drug Resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MDRTB) strains. Efflux genes have been established to be among factors for drug resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) pulmonary infections by conferring bacterial ability to pump-out drugs from intracellular compartment, making it impossible for drugs to attain intracellular concentration lethal to the organism. There is paucity of data on the role of efflux pump in MDRTB in Nigerian strains of M. tuberculosis. Hence, the aim of this study was to detect the carriage, distribution and frequency of efflux pump genes among MDRTB and non-MDRTB isolates from participants with pulmonary tuberculosis in Lagos, Nigeria. This study was carried out on M. tuberculosis isolated from 1020 participants suspected of pulmonary tuberculosis in Lagos State, Nigeria. A total of 78 M. tuberculosis isolates were obtained from the participants suspected of pulmonary tuberculosis. Forty Eight isolates were confirmed as MDRTB and 30 non-MDRTB. Efflux pump genes were investigated in the isolates using the conventional polymerase chain reaction. Statistical analysis was carried out using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS version 20) to compare the efflux pump gene results between MDRTB and non- MDRTB isolates. Different efflux genes types and frequency were detected in MDRTB and non-MDRTB isolates. carriage of 2 or more alleles of efflux gene types Rv2486c (efpA), Rv2459c (jefA), Rv1877, Rv1002c, Rv0342, Rv2686c and drrc associated with MDR were detected. Additionally, the frequency of efflux genes alleles in MDRTB was significantly different from those in non- MDRTB isolates.
