In this study, the entropy generation and the heat transfer of pulsating air flow in a horizontal channel with an open cavity heated from below with uniform temperature distribution are numerically investigated. A numerical method based on finite volume method is used to discretize the governing equations. At the inlet of the channel, pulsating velocity is imposed for a range of Strouhal numbers Stpfrom 0 to 1 and amplitude Apfrom 0 to 0.5. The effects of the governing parameters, such as frequency and amplitude of the pulsation, Richardson number, Ri, and aspect ratio of the cavity, L/H, on the flow field, temperature distribution, average Nusselt number and average entropy generation, are numerically analyzed. The results indicate that the heat transfer and entropy generation are strongly affected by the frequency and amplitude of the pulsation and this depends on the Richardson number and aspect ratio of the cavity. The pulsation is more effective with the aspect ratio of the cavity L/H= 1.5 in terms of heat transfer enhancement and entropy generation minimization.

This paper numerically investigates the effect of the location of a horizontal fin on the melting of a phase change material(PCM)inside a rectangular enclosure heated by multiple discrete pulsed protruding heat *** fin and the phase change material filling the enclosure store the thermal energy extracted from the heat sources,in sensible and latent *** heat sources are assumed to simulate electronic components undergoing a superheating technical *** extracting heat from the electronics,the PCM plays the role of a heat *** analyze the thermal behavior and predict the cooling performance of the proposed cooling system,we derive a nonlinear mathematical model based on mass,momentum and energy conservation *** numerical investigations are conducted to quantify the influence of the fin position on the thermal behavior and the cooling performance of the heat *** include the transient maximum temperature occurring inside the heat sources and the liquid volume.A comparison between our numerical results and experimental data selected from the literature shows a good *** main conclusion is that the presence of the fin leads to a slight increase in the melting time.

This paper proposes numerical investigations carried out on a small scale tunnel model airing to study the fire-induced smoke control by longitudinal and longitudinal-natural ventilation systems. We studied the effect of two ventilation systems on the temperature distribution and stratification of the pollutant to estimate the efficiency of ventilation systems. The flow is characterized by the temperature fields, temperature profiles and the Froude number. The numerical tool used is FDS (version 4.0). This numerical study requires validation with an experience of literature. Good agreement with experimental results confirms the possibility of using this code in the problem.

In the present work,a novel Organic Rankine Cycle(ORC)configuration is used for a low-grade heat source cogeneration *** investigation is conducted accordingly into the simultaneous production of electricity and *** proposed configuration relies on concentrated solar power(as heat source)and ambient air(for cooling).Furthermore,two gas ejectors are added to the system in order to optimize the thermodynamic efficiency of the organic Rankine *** results show that the thermodynamic and geometric parameters related to these ejectors have an important effect on the overall system *** order to account for the related environmental impact,the following working fluids are considered:HCFC-124,HFC-236fa,HFO-1234yf and *** shown by the numerical simulations,the fluid R1234yf presents the minimal heat consumption and therefore provides an optimal thermal efficiency for the ORC cycle(which is around 29%).However,the refrigerant R236fa displays the highest refrigeration performances with a performance coefficient reaching a value as high as 0.38.

The effects of the starvation trial on the biochemical composition and the fatty acid dynamics in the triacylglycerol fraction of the digestive gland, gonads and adductor muscle of the scallop Flexopecten glaber were assessed. Results show that three weeks of food deprivation induce depletion of carbohydrates and a significant decrease in proteins and lipids. The noteworthy patterns recorded for the various classes of lipids were the increase of the amount of phosphatidylethanolamine against a strong decline of mono-diacylglycerols, triacylglycerol and phosphatidylserine classes in gonads. These results reflect the ability of Flexopecten glaber to remodel endogenous lipid classes in order to avoid the gonads deterioration. In the starved specimens, severe declines of the n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid group were recorded in the triacylglycerol fraction of digestive gland and adductor muscle against the increase of this group in gonads. These results confirm the role of triacylglycerol as a polyunsaturated fatty acids reservoir and pointed out to their mobilization from storage organs to the developing gonads during the food shortage trial. Examination of fatty acid data revealed that food deprivation lead Flexopecten glaber to invest in saving and accumulation of highly unsaturated fatty acids in gonads. This applies mainly to the arachidonic acid (20:4n-6) and the docosahexaenoic acid (22:6n-3).

The effects of solar and experimental drying on the protein concentration and total fatty acid (TFA) content of the muscles of Atherina boyeri (sand smelt) were studied. The percentage of protein was 18.3% for fresh fish and 14.2% for sun-dried fish, while TFA content was 4.9 g/100g and 0.5 g/100g. After the drying experiment, the percentage of protein was 23% and the fatty acid (FA) content was 2.8 g/100g. The results show that natural or experimental drying favors saturated fatty acids. The n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are less sensitive to heat than the n-6 PUFAs. From a nutritional point of view, it seems that the drying conditions, where parameters are T = 50℃, moisture = 30% and air speed = 2 m/s, would be the most beneficial for the preservation of sand smelt.

Phlebotomine sandflies （Diptera： Psychodidae） constitute a large group of flies, many of which have been described as vectors of leishmaniasis, a disease caused by Leishmania （Kinetoplastida： Trypanosomatidae） parasites. In Tunisia, a total of 17 species belonging to both genera Phlebotomus and Sergentomyia were described. In this work we report on an abnormality found in spermathecae of a female specimen ofPhlebotomus （Larroussius） longicuspis Nitzulescu, 1930. Sandflies were collected in SidiSaad locality, in the govemorate of Kairouan, central Tunisia, where zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis is endemic, during the June to November 2011 period, using CDC light traps. Males were washed and directly identified and females were dissected and morphologically identified using the head and the last two abdominal segments containing spermathecae and ducts. 162 flies were morphologically described. Among 33 females identified as Phlebotomus （Larroussius） longicuspis, one specimen was found abnormal and presented with three spermathecae. An additional spermathecae located in a short bifurcation on the upper extremity of one duct was found. This anomaly is for the first time described in Tunisia. Morphological abnormalities are important to report in order to avoid erroneous sandfly identification or description of new species.

The relationship between antibiotic consumption and resistance has been widely evaluated. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the most important opportunistic pathogens in the nosocomial setting, and its resistance to antibiotics is increaseing. Production of metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs) is currently the most fearful resistance mechanism due to the potential of dissemination. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between antibiotic consumption (expressed in DDD/100 bed days) and resistance (expressed in % of isolates and patients) in different time periods for P. aeruginosa between 2006 and 2009 at Saint George Hospital University Medical Center (SGH-UMC), Beirut. Pearson correlation coefficients (r) were calculated and linear regression was performed. Detection of MBL-producing Imipenem resistant P. aeruginosa (IRPA) isolates between 2008 and 2009 was performed using three MBL screening methods: MBL Etest?, Imipenem/EDTA combined disk test and EDTA disk potentiation with four cephalosporins. The modified Hodge test was also performed. From 2006 till 2009, there was a trend of increasing resistance of P. aeruginosa to all antibiotics, and the highest % of resistance was for Ofloxacin. Concerning resistance expressed by isolates, high correlation coefficients resulted among Imipenem, Ciprofloxacin and Tazobactam consumption and resistance to these agents in the same year correlation;Ceftazidime and Ofloxacin consumption and resistance in the next year correlation;Gentamicin and Ofloxacin consumption and the change in resistance (ΔR). Concerning resistance expressed by patients, results were similar except for Ceftazidime and Ofloxacin correlation in the next year correlation. In MBL screening, three isolates gave accordance among 4 methods which showed a positive result. Cade Oil Poisoning: A Case Series

Objectives and Study: Cade oil is aromatic oil obtained from the branches and wood of Juniperus oxycedrus, common in the Mediterranean region and widely used in traditional medicine. This oil contains many chemical compounds with neurological, cardiac, renal, respiratory, hepatic, and gastrointestinal toxicity. Cade oil poisoning often requires intensive care admission due to the severity of the clinical picture. The objective of this study is to highlight the multiple manifestations found in the pediatric population due to cade oil exposure objectifying its significant toxicity. Methods: The authors report during this article a series of five cases of cade oil poisoning on pediatric patients hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit of el HARROUCHI hospital at the CHU Ibn Rochd in Casablanca during the period from 11/01/2022 to 12/07/2022. The patients have been exposed, a few hours before their admission, to an external cade oil application used by parents for therapeutic purposes. Main Findings: Our patients were aged from 1 month to 4 years, the average age was 1.5 years with a female predominance and a sex ratio of 1.5:1. The patients had no prior medical history, and the cade oil application was spontaneously declared by the parents of only 2 patients, 3 of them reported the use of it after the detection of the substance by the clinician. For all the cases, cade oil was applied to treat fever. All five (5) patients presented initial neurological signs. 3 of them were admitted to an acute consciousness disorder and the 2 other patients presented respectively a convulsive status epilepticus and generalized-onset seizure. We report respiratory symptoms in 4 cases ranging from a simple caught, rhinorrhea to severe respiratory distress. Three patients presented acute liver failure with very high transaminase levels associated with acute kidney failure. Two of them presented digestive symptoms such as abundant hematemesis, vomiting, and watery diarrhea. All
