The focus of outcome-based education has shifted from the process of training to the end“product”of *** has necessitated a reframing of the teaching,learning,and ***,in 2013,the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education(ACGME)implemented the educational milestones for all accredited residencies and fellowship programs.[1]The milestones have been described as“developmentally based,specialty-specific achievements that residents are expected to demonstrate at established intervals as they progress through training.”[1]Milestones are based on the six core competencies established by the ACGME and American Board of Medical Specialties(ABMS),which consist of medical knowledge(MK),patient care(PC),interpersonal and communication skills(ICS),practice-based learning and improvement(PBLI),professionalism(PROF),and systems-based practice(SBP).[2,3]ACGME,in conjunction with the American Board of Emergency Medicine(ABEM),drafted 23 detailed subcompetencies relevant to emergency medicine(EM).[4]

Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase(MTHFR)deficiency is the most common genetic cause of hyperhomocysteinemia,which has been implicated in the etiology of recurrent spontaneous abortion(RSA).This study was designed to investigate the association between two single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNP)(rs1801133[C677T]and rs1801131[A1298C])in the MTHFR gene and RSA,in *** two SNPs were selected as these polymorphisms have a different effect on the activity and stability of the enzyme,and significantly diverse effects have been reported in relation to the association with *** approval was acquired from the IRB at King Saud University(KKUH),Saudi Arabia,and written informed consent was obtained from each *** study group comprised of 100 Saudi women with unexplained RSA and 100 age-matched controls,both attending KKUH for a routine *** was drawn in EDTA tubes,and DNA was *** was conducted using TaqMan SNP genotyping assay *** frequency of the T allele of C677T was 0.165 in patients and 0.17 in *** frequencies for CC,CT and TT genotypes were 70%,27%and 3%,respectively in RSA,and 71%,24%and 5%,respectively,in the controls(p>0.05).For the A1298C polymorphism,the C allele frequencies were 0.345 in patients and 0.28 in controls,while genotype frequencies for AA,AC and CC genotypes were 44%,43%,and 13%,respectively,in patients,and 54%,36%,and 10%,respectively,in controls(p>0.05).The frequency of CC genotype and C allele of A1298C were higher in the patients with RSA,but not significantly,while C677T genotypes and allele frequencies did not differ between patients and *** results suggested that MTHFR gene polymorphisms are population-specific and may not associate with RSA in Saudi women.

Objective: To assess the clinical anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial efficacy of Nigella sativa oil compared with chlorhexidine in patients with gingivitis. Methods: A double-blind, randomized clinical trial was conducted in patients having chronic generalized gingivitis. Patients were randomly assigned to receive Nigella sativa oil(n=18) or chlorhexidine(n=19). The following assessments were made on day 0 and day 15: plaque index, gingival index, gingival IL-6 and IL-18 levels were measured using ELISA, plaque colony-forming units, and alpha-hemolytic Streptococcus strains. Data were analyzed using parametric and non-parametric tests and Fisher’s exact ***: Both interventions reduced plaque index and gingival index scores(P0.05). The post-intervention plaque index and gingival index scores and inflammatory cytokine levels between the two groups were not significantly different. Both interventions caused a significant reduction in the plaque colony-forming units(P<0.000 1), reducing pathogenic bacteria: Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus oralis, Streptococcus sanguinis, and Streptococcus parasanguinis in the chlorhexidine group(50%)(P=0.103 1), and the Nigella sativa oil group(20%)(P=0.739 5). Conclusions: Nigella sativa oil had anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activities, reducing biofilm formation and disrupting the colonization of pathogenic bacteria essential for the progression of periodontal disease. Nigella sativa oil could offer an alternative therapy for treating gingivitis and may prevent associated systemic diseases and improve overall health outcomes.

Introduction: Recent technological developments have enabled many scientists to produce a wide variety of foods that meet consumers’ desires for diversity and quality. Genetically modified (GM) foods have long been a controversial topic, and consumer reliance on these foods depends on their trust in biotechnology institutions due to their lack of knowledge about the risks and benefits. This study aimed to assess the awareness, attitude, and perception of GM foods among the Saudi population, as well as to identify the association between age, gender, and education level in the studied population and their awareness level towards genetically modified foods. Method: Data was collected using a structured, pretested questionnaire drawn from previous studies, after obtaining written consent. The questionnaire included three sections focusing on personal data, general knowledge of GM foods, and perception, attitudes, and beliefs towards GM foods. Our study included 500 responses. Results: The majority of the participants were female, located in the central region, and had a university education. Most participants provided a correct definition of GM foods and indicated that they had heard about them, but were unsure if they had eaten these foods in the past. Their knowledge of these foods was good. Regarding opinions and attitudes towards these foods, the majority of participants were neutral. They approved of using GM foods because it produces more food, tastes better, and can be stored for a long time. In conclusion, the study highlights the urgent necessity to raise awareness and knowledge regarding genetically modified foods among the Saudi population. It emphasizes the importance of educating consumers about the potential advantages and risks associated with consuming such foods, enabling them to make informed decisions. It is crucial to integrate awareness and education about genetically modified foods into the technological and agricultural advancements in Saudi Arab

Objective: To investigate the environmental-friendly extracellular biosynthetic technique for the production of the silver nanoparticles(AgN Ps) by using leaf extract of Eucalyptus camaldulensis(E. camaldulensis). Methods: The NP were characterized by colour changes and the UV-visible spectroscopy. The cytotoxic effects of prepared AgN Ps was detected against four types of pathogenic bacteria, including two Gram-negative bacteria(Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli) and two Gram-positive bacteria(Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) by using agar well diffusion method. Results: A peak absorption value between 400-450 nm for the extract and the colour change to dark brown were corresponding to the plasmon absorbance of AgN Ps. On the other hand, aqueous extract of E. camaldulensis leaves could be effective against tested microorganisms which showed inhibition zones of 9.0-14.0 mm. Furthermore, biologically synthesized AgN Ps had higher ability to suppress the growth of the tested microorganisms(12.0-19.0 mm). Conclusions: Our findings indicated that extracellular synthesis of Ag NPs mediated by E. camaldulensis leaf extract had an efficient bactericidal activity against the bacterial species tested. The exact mechanism of the extracellular biosynthesis of metal NP was not well understood. Further studies are needed to highlight the biosynthesis process of AgN Ps and also to characterize the toxicity effect of these particles.
