Prevalence and Demographic Distributions of Pre-Eclampsia among Pregnant Women at Ho Teaching Hospital

Background: In Sub-Saharan Africa, pre-eclampsia remains a major health problem contributing to high rates of maternal mortality. Despite this condition having adverse effects on maternal and child health, its prevalence and associated risk factors are still significant, especially in developing countries including Ghana. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and demographic distributions associated with pre-eclampsia among pregnant women at the Ho Teaching Hospital. Methods: A facility-based retrospective study was conducted by reviewing available data or hospital records of pregnant mothers admitted to the labor and maternity wards from January 2018 to December 2020. All pregnant women who were diagnosed with pre-eclampsia within this period were included in the study. The data were collected using a structured checklist. Results: 5609 data on pregnant women from 2018 to 2020 were recorded. Out of the 5609 data recorded, 314 pre-eclampsia cases were recorded giving an overall prevalence of 5.6%. The yearly prevalence for 2018, 2019, and 2020 were 4.6%, 5.6%, and 6.6%, respectively. The most recorded pre-eclampsia cases were seen among women within the age group of 18 - 24 years. The data showed that 112 (35.7%) of the pregnant women who had pre-eclampsia were nulliparous. Pre-eclampsia-associated maternal and fetal complications were;preterm delivery 221 (70.4%), intrauterine fetal death 62 (19.7%), eclampsia 9 (2.9%), HELLP syndrome 5 (1.6%) and maternal death 17 (5.4%). Associated factors of pre-eclampsia were parity, level of education, and occupation (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: The findings of this study showed a rising trend in the incidence of pre-eclampsia over the years at the Ho Teaching Hospital. Parity, level of education, and occupation were found to be associated with developing pre-eclampsia.

Objective: To assess the toxic potential of Dissotis rotundifolia(***) whole plant extract in Spraque–Dawley rats within a 2-week period of ***: Methanolic extract of D. rotundifolia was administered orally once daily at dose levels of 0,100, 300 and 1 000 mg/kg body weight for 14 days. Toxicity was assessed using mortality, clinical signs, body and organ weights, hematological indices,serum chemistry parameters and histopathological ***: There were no treatment-related mortalities or differences in clinical signs,hematology and serum biochemistry. This was confirmed by micrographs obtained from histopathological ***: The results obtained from the sub-acute toxicological assessment of D. rotundifolia extract suggest that the extract is non-toxic at doses up to 1 000 mg/kg/day administered for a period of 14 days.

The performance of solar PV modules is significantly affected by temperature. This paper focuses on the determination of the effect of temperature on a commercial mono-crystalline silicon PV module whose temperature coefficients were not provided by the manufacturer for installation in Kumasi, Ghana, Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) ambient. In order to determine the effect of temperature on the output characteristics of the module, the temperature coefficients of current, voltage and power were determined. First of all, the module was cooled to a temperature between 10°C - 15°C in a cooling chamber, covered with cardboard paper before the outdoor electrical tests using Daystar I-V Curve tracer. The results show that as temperature increases, irradiance decreases significantly leading to a decrease in output power (Pmax). Quality Assessment of Artemether/Lumefantrine Tablets Sampled from Pharmacies in Accra, Using the *** Color Software

Background: Widespread resistance has been recorded with the use of monotherapy in the management of malaria. In 2000, Ghana initiated the process of using Artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) following the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendation. Globally and in Ghana, there stands a high risk of development of resistance to the ACTs due to the act of counterfeiting or substandard drugs. In 2009, there was a report that fake Coartem, an ACT had been found in Ghana by the Drug Quality and Information (DQI) Program;this is a serious national problem that needs redress thus the need to conduct this study to check if there are any substandard or counterfeit Artemether/ Lumefantrine tablets on the Ghanaian market. Method: Using Representative sampling method, a total of nine different brands or samples of artemether/lumefantrine tablets were sampled from nine different Pharmacies in Accra. The samples were analyzed using a validated *** colour software technology. Results: The International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) and United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) recommend that for assay of tablets, the percentage concentration should fall within 80%-120%. After the analysis, seven out of the nine samples passed the test to varying degrees. Two samples (AL-S4 and AL-S6) however failed the test with AL-S4 recording artemether concentration (126.07%) above and Lumefantrine concentration (78.38%) below the recommended figure while AL-S6’s 51.53% failed to meet the minimum allowable concentration for lumefantrine in a tablet. Conclusion: The results presented show that some Artemether/Lumefantrine tablets on the Ghanaian market still have issues with regards to quality or level of active ingredients. There would therefore be the need for further studies to be conducted into these products especially those that failed the test.

背景临床警报(后简称警报)是指用于患者的疾病诊断、治疗和监测的医疗设备发出的一种通知,它是一个可听或可视的信号,以提醒医务人员患者的生理参数超出了设定的阈值范围或者存在设备障碍,需要医务人员及时关注及处理。也就是说临床警报是患者处于或可能处于危险状况时,通知医务人员进行干预的信号。由于通信技术和医疗技术的发展,针对危重患者的监护设备在临床上广泛应用,重症监护室医疗设备种类不断更新,警报数量不断增加。有研究表明,在重症监护室环境中,每个患者每天平均产生150-400个警报,而大部分警报都不需要做出应答,大量的虚假警报可能导致“狼哭效应”,造成医护人员的警报疲劳。重症监护室患者病情危重,护士工作量大、强度高、工作环境噪音大,容易表现出较高水平的职业倦怠,直接降低对警报的敏感性,从而对警报响应不足影响患者生命安全。美国食品药品管理局制造商与用户机构设备使用数据库报告了566起由于警报导致患者死亡的事件;美国医疗评鉴联合会将“减少与临床报警系统相关的患者伤害”列入《国家患者安全目标》;中国医院协会将“加强对医疗设备安全与警报管理”列入《患者十大安全目标》。这说明,关注护士警报疲劳和职业倦怠,减少警报相关的不良事件对于保护患者安全,提升护理服务质量有着重要的意义。警报疲劳是指由过多的警报引起的感觉负担过重,可能导致对警报的延迟反应或完全忽略。警报疲劳有两个组成部分,即警报脱敏和警报冷漠。由于警报数量和虚假警报数量的不断增多,警报疲劳成为了导致此类警报相关的患者死亡不良事件的主要原因。职业倦怠是指护士由于紧张的工作和频繁接触压力事件而导致其在身体上、情感上和精神上感到疲惫的一种状态,它可能会影响工作效率。职业倦怠的后果包括不良的工作表现和不良的健康影响。劳累过度的护士可能会要求更多的调职或休假,工作效率低下,并有离开工作或职业的可能。护士由于警报疲劳和职业倦怠的影响,可能导致患者和护士本身都处于安全风险之中。在非洲,关于警报疲劳的研究非常少,信息也十分有限,且在加纳没有关于护士警报疲劳的可用信息。但随着科学技术的发展,加纳医疗体系逐步完善,越来越多带有警报功能的先进的医疗设备应用于临床工作中,是否重症监护护士存在警报疲劳尚不清楚。重症监护护士的职业倦怠影响护士的工作效能得到行业内的国际公认,但是否是影响警报疲劳的原因,均不清楚。因此了解加纳护士警报疲劳现状,并分析其影响因素及与职业倦怠的关系非常必要。本研究的结果将为未来研究全球警报管理提供数据基础,丰富警报疲劳研究,为警报管理在全球的实践提供依据。目的本研究的目的是调查加纳重症监护室护士的警报疲劳现状和影响因素,探索警报疲劳和职业倦怠之间的关系。方法本研究采用横断面研究设计,研究对象为加纳的重症监护室护士,采用便利抽样的方法进行抽样。研究对象的纳入标准为:工作一年以上,知情同意本研究;排除标准为:尚不能独立执业的护士,正在休假的护士(包括学习假、年假、病假和产假)。研究在加纳的四家教学医院和一家最大的地区医院进行(即:加纳的Komfo Anokye教学医院、Tamale教学医院、Cape Coast教学医院、Ho教学医院和大阿克拉地区医院)。本研究采用的研究工具为《护士警报疲劳问卷》和马斯拉克职业倦怠量表(Maslach Burnout Inventory,MBI)。《护士警报疲劳问卷》由中国学者尹曾珍编写,信效度良好,原始问卷使用中文编制,包含4个维度32个条目,即警报疲劳类型8个条目,包括躯体疲劳3个条目、精神疲劳5个条目;警报疲劳后果12个条目;警报疲劳影响因素9个条目;警报疲劳特征3个条目,包括警报的情境性和时间性的特点。采用李克特5级评分法进行赋值,从不:0分;很少:1分,有时:2分,经常:3分,总是:4分。该问卷在使用前获得了作者的授权,按Tsang等人的指南进行翻译、跨文化调试和信效度检验。问卷翻译过程包括正向翻译、反向翻译和专家讨论,因为原问卷中有一个条目重复,因此在翻译的过程中删去了该条目。翻译问卷在定稿之前对30名重症监护护士进行了预测试并对参加预测试的人员进行了访谈,以确定问卷中是否有意义模糊的项目或难以理解的部分。最终英文问卷由31个条目组成。《护士警报疲劳问卷》的Cronbach’sα是0.898,I-CVI在0.83至1.00之间,S-CVI/Ave为0.98,表明该问卷具有良好的内容效度。MBI由Maslach等开发,已成为国际研究中评估职业倦怠最常用的指标。该量表由3个维度、16个条目组成,即疲惫感5个条目,愤世嫉俗感5个条目及职业效能感6个条目。使用李克特7级评分法进行赋值,从不:0分;每年数次或更少:1分;每月1次或更少:2分;每月数次:3分;每周1次:4分;每周数次:5分;每天:6分,用于评估对工作的态度。疲惫感和愤世嫉俗感两个维度的高分以及职业效能

自2019年12月以来,新型冠状病毒在全球范围内出现并迅速蔓延,疫情的传播程度和严重性令人们深感担忧,人们必须佩戴口罩,并做好一定的安全防护措施才能外出。为了更好的预防新冠病毒感染和控制疫情,人们在进入超市、车站等人员密集、需要人脸识别验证身份的场所时,不用摘口罩就能顺利通过验证,这使得研发一种佩戴着口罩也能够使用的人脸识别系统成为必然,同时也可以给疫情笼罩下人们的生活带来极大的便利。由于佩戴口罩时,口罩会遮挡人脸大部分的面部特征,所以研发一个佩戴口罩也能精确进行人脸识别的识别系统是一个极大的挑战。本研究通过识别人脸中上半部分未被口罩遮挡的部分来提取面部特征,在AlexNet、Res Net-50和Inception V3模型的基础上,来识别佩戴外科口罩、织物口罩和N95口罩的埃塞俄比亚黑人和高加索白人的人脸。在本文研究的人脸识别系统中,为了训练精确的人脸识别算法,使用了戴口罩和未戴口罩的自定义人脸图像数据集,并通过归一化和随机化对获得的图像进行预处理,以最小化每个输入图像的变化并将每个图像更改为相同的像素值,以辅助特征提取过程。利用主成分分析法（PCA）提取人脸图像的主要特征进行加权处理,为面具人脸识别系统建立数据库。该算法在本文的研究中取得了不错的成果。对三种模型在埃塞俄比亚人和高加索人身上的表现进行分析可知:AlexNet模型在埃塞俄比亚人身上达到了35.2%的识别率,在白种人身上达到了56%;Resnet-50模型在埃塞俄比亚人身上达到了60%的识别率,在高加索人身上达到了40%;Inception V3在埃塞俄比亚人身上的识别率达到了62.5%,在高加索人身上达到了37.5%。研究结果表明,Inception V3在识别埃塞俄比亚人脸方面比Resnet 50和AlexNet模型表现更好;AlexNet在识别高加索人方面也比Inception V3和Res Net-50表现更好,同时CNN模型在戴口罩和未戴口罩的人脸上都具有出色的识别精度。但是,与AlexNet和Inception V3相比,Resnet-50具有更高的识别精度。在新冠疫情全球蔓延的今天,本文提出并研究的人脸识别系统可以在一定程度上避免新型冠状病毒的感染,在保持社会秩序的同时提高了人们出行的安全程度。因此,本文的研究具有一定的意义和应用价值。这项研究中创建的数据集在CNN的模型下预测了优秀的结果,并且可以服务于以安全检测和监督为目的的口罩人脸识别系统。

加纳的Kasapreko有限公司是加纳领先且知名的酒精和非酒精饮料生产商之一,该公司拥有约192名来自不同国家的外籍员工,且相当部分担任管理职责。但是,由于文化、语言等原因,文化冲突不可避免,致使外籍员工与本国员工之间工作经常发生冲突,公司也长期面临外籍人员的低绩效问题。本研究旨在指出问题并研究其他相关变量对员工绩效的影响。本研究首先对公司情况与外籍员工工作情况进行了研究,通过研究,发现外籍员工绩效不高的主要原因主要是语言不同与文化冲突的存在,而公司方面对员工跨文化培训方面存在不足。因此,本文选择语言培训,跨文化培训和岗前培训这三个变量对外籍员工绩效的影响展开研究,并对相关的研究和理论进行了综述。研究采用定量与定性相结合分析方法。通过访谈法、问卷调查法等研究方法,分析外籍员工低绩效问题,调查问卷面向公司全体外国雇员分发了192份调查问卷,并且全部收回,进行了记录以及分析。进行了描述性分析,并检验数据特征,计算平均标准差和相关性检验,做了回归分析,研究相关变量对员工绩效的影响。研究结果表明,语言培训,跨文化培训和岗前培训三个方面都对加纳外籍员工的绩效产生了积极的影响。外籍员工的高水平绩效会受到跨文化培训和岗前培训等多种因素的影响。除此之外,这些因素均有助于外籍员工克服文化冲击并提高工作绩效。

Application of Pollution Indices in the Assessment of Heavy Metal Contamination of Surface Sediments of River Bonsa, Ghana

Heavy metal contamination of sediments is a major risk to ecological systems and human health. Not only do sediments influence the quality of the water column, but can be transferred to micro biota and fishes, ultimately ending up at higher trophic levels in the food chain though biomagnification. This study was carried out to assess the contamination levels of heavy metals in the sediments of river Bonsa. Ten sediment samples were taken along the river and analyzed for Copper (Cu), Lead (Pb), Manganese (Mn), Iron (Fe), Zinc (Zn), Cadmium (Cd), Chromium (Cr), Cobalt (Co), and Nickel (Ni) using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). Data analysis was accomplished by comparing the measured heavy metal concentrations to Australian and New Zealand Environment and Conservation Council (ANZECC) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) fresh water sediment quality guidelines and by the computation of geo-accumulation indices and enrichment factors. The results show that apart from Ni which had two of its sample concentrations (at BS1 21.167 mg/kg and at BS2 29.374 mg/kg) exceeding the ANZECC lower limit (21 mg/kg) guideline for fresh water sediment, all other heavy metals recorded concentrations below the lower limits of their respective ANZECC standards. Out of the 10 samples analyzed, 7 recorded Mn concentrations above the NOAA ARC TEL. A one-sample t-test also showed that the mean concentrations of Cu, Pb, Cd, Zn, Ni, and Cr were significantly lower than their respective ANZECC threshold values and Fe concentration was also significantly lower than the NOAA threshold;however, there was no significant difference between Mn mean value and the corresponding NOAA guideline value.
