Quaternary alluvial fan dynamics of the Jaldhaka basin

Across the Himalayan foreland area,alluvial fans respond to fluvial depositional landforms created by active tectonics and are incorporated within hydro-sediment *** tributary of the master stream has its water and sediment to discharge,which assists in initiating several mesolevel fans in response to the active tectonics in Jaldhaka *** the mountain front,active MBT(Main Boundary Thrust),MFT(Main Frontal Thrust)and lineaments(parallel and transverse to Himalaya)have governed the tectonically active Quaternary foreland area where numerous meso-level fans have *** study aims to estimate the tectonic activeness of each meso-fan using the morphotectonic *** tributaries of the Jaldhaka River are permuted to the recent tectonism or neotectonics to form each meso fan with its basin displaying the varying degree of their activeness and aggradation *** methods like technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution(TOPSIS)and VIKOR(Vlse Kriterijumska Optimizacija Kompromisno Resenje)that specify multicriteria optimization and compromise solution,in Serbian have ranked the Fan 2 as mostly active and Fan 4 is comparatively tectonically *** hydro-sediment characteristics reveal the topographic spatial dynamics of Fan 4 where lobe 3 has elevated from *** XRD analysis specifies the scientific key in response to the dominance of dolomite in the aggraded elevated bed sediments carried by the Rohtikhola *** conceptual fan models of Fan 2and 4 display the fan development phases through four *** has clearly defined the extension of the fan lobes of Fan 2 and *** is summarized that within a common climatic zone and similar neo-tectonic setting,meso-level fans have differential morphotectonic signatures with dynamic aggradation processes.

Algorithmic approaches for optimizing electronic control unit time using multi-rate sampling

With the emerging migration of automotive and other distributed control platforms from federated to integrated architectures, the need for optimal utilization of ECU （electronic control unit） bandwidth will become a key requirement in the implementation of embedded control features. This paper advocates the partitioning of the operating space of the plant and the use of minimal sampling rates in each partition without compromising the overall quality of control. At the heart of the proposed methodology are our algorithms that enable the choice of the partitions and the sampling rate for each partition. We demonstrate the efficacy of our methods on two case studies, namely an anti-lock braking system and a lane departure warning system. We also study the use of a supervisory controller that controls the switching among sampling rates for a combination of the two features.

Beta catenin has been well documented in previous studies to be involved in non small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Beta catenin abundance and transcriptional activity are significantly regulated by several *** it is well known that Akt and Gsk3 beta are respective positive and negative regulators of beta catenin,however,no single study has so far documented how the expression and activity of both positive as well as negative regulators play favorable role on beta catenin expression and activity in *** this study,we compared expression and activity of beta catenin and its regulators in normal lung cell WI38 and NSCLC cell A549 by western blot,qRT-PCR and luciferase *** observed that beta catenin positive regulators(Akt and Hsp90)and negative regulators(Gsk3 beta and microRNA-214)have differential expression and/or activity in NSCLC cell *** the differentially altered statuses of both the positive and negative regulators rendered cumulative positive effect on beta catenin expression and activity in *** study thus suggests that chemotherapeutic modulations of regulating factors are crucial when abrogation and/or inhibition of key oncogenic proteins are necessary for cancer chemotherapy.

Tuned reactive power dispatch through modified differential evolution technique

This paper explores the capability of modified differential evolution （MDE） technique for solving the reactive power dispatch （RPD） problem. The proposed method is based on the basic differential evolution （DE） technique with a few modifications made into it. DE is one of the strongest optimization techniques though it suffers from the problem of slow convergence while global minima appear. The proposed modifications ate tried to resolve the problem. The RPD problem mainly defines loss minimization with stable voltage profile. To solve the RPD problem, the generator bus voltage, transformer tap setting and shunt capacitor placements are controlled by the MDE approach. In this paper, IEEE 14-bus and IEEE 30-bus systems are chosen for MDE implementation. The applied modification show much improved result in comparison to normal DE technique. Comparative study with other softcomputing technique including DE validates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Target-site mediated insecticide resistance in major mosquito(Diptera:Culicidae)vectors:A systematic review

The use of insecticides remain the most effective vector control approach for mosquito borne diseases like malaria,dengue fever,chikungunya,and Zika virus disease;however,their increasing resistance has complicated the *** in kdr,ace-1/ace-2,rdl,and nAChR,are involved in target-site mediated resistance and prevent the binding of pyrethroids and dichlorodiph enyltrichloroethane,organophosphorus pesticide,carbamates and cyclodienes,***,we review the current knowledge on target-site mediated insecticidal resistance mechanisms in major mosquito vectors and the techniques used to identify these *** results showed that kdr mutations are frequently reported in mosquito species,indicating the overuse of pyrethroid in mosquito *** on ace mutations is very limited,primarily detected in Anopheles and Culex,with extremely low detection rate in Aedes,despite the wide application of organophosphates in their ***,reports of rdl mutations and changes in nAChR are rare,which provides an opportunity to exploit these target sites,particularly in the event of disease *** various detection methods such as RFLP,TaqMan,Multiplex PCR and FRET,allele-specific PCR is mostly employed,especially in detecting kdr ***,allele-specific PCR cannot detect novel *** a result,there is an urgent need to develop a scalable,cost-effective tool that can be widely applied especially as these mutations are genetic markers for early detection of insecticide *** monitoring methods remain critical to manage insecticide resistance and effective control of mosquito-borne diseases.

Effect of axial length and anterior chamber depth on the peripheral refraction profile

AIM:To evaluate the effect of axial length(AL)and anterior chamber depth(ACD)on peripheral refractive profile in myopic patients compared to emmetropic ***:This cross-sectional study was conducted in right eyes of 58 participants of whom 38 were emmetropic and 20 were *** and peripheral refraction were measured at 10°,20°,and 30°eccentricities in nasal and temporal fields using an open-field *** Lenstar LS900 was used to measure ACD and *** participants were divided into three groups of short(24.5 mm)according to AL and three groups of low ACD(3.60 mm)according to ***:The mean age of the participants was 22.26±3.09 y(range 18-30 y).The peripheral mean spherical refractive error showed a hypermetropic shift in myopic and emmetropic groups although this shift was more pronounced in the myopic *** results showed significant changes in the spherical equivalent,J0,and J45 astigmatism in all gazes with an increase in eccentricity(P<0.001).The pattern of refractive error changes was more noticeable in long and short eyes versus normal AL ***,the pattern of peripheral refractive changes was much more prominent in the high ACD group versus the normal ACD group and in the normal ACD group versus the low ACD ***:Peripheral refraction changes are greater in participants with AL values outside the normal range and deeper ACD values compared to participants with normal AL and ACD.

Constriction factor based particle swarm optimization for analyzing tuned reactive power dispatch

The reactive power dispatch （RPD） problem is a very critical optimization problem of power system which minimizes the real power loss of the transmission system. While solving the said problem, generator bus voltages and transformer tap settings are kept within a stable operating limit. In connection with the RPD problem, solving reactive power is compensated by incorporating shunt capacitors. The particle swarm optimization （PSO） technique is a swarm intelligence based fast working optimization method which is chosen in this paper as an optimization tool. Additionally, the constriction factor is included with the conventional PSO technique to accelerate the convergence property of the applied optimization tool. In this paper, the RPD problem is solved in the case of the two higher bus systems, i.e., the IEEE 57-bus system and the IEEE ll8-bus system. Furthermore, the result of the present paper is compared with a few optimization technique based results to substantiate the effectiveness of the proposed study.

Alginate and alginate composites for biomedical applications

Alginate is an edible heteropolysaccharide that abundantly available in the brown seaweed and the capsule of bacteria such as Azotobacter *** Pseudomonas *** to alginate gel forming capability,it is widely used in food,textile and paper industries;and to a lesser extent in biomedical applications as biomaterial to promote wound healing and tissue *** is evident from the rising use of alginate-based dressing for heavily exuding wound and their mass availability in the market ***,alginate also has *** in contact with physiological environment,alginate could gelate into softer structure,consequently limits its potential in the soft tissue regeneration and becomes inappropriate for the usage related to load bearing body *** cater this problem,wide range of materials have been added to alginate structure,producing sturdy composite *** instance,the incorporation of adhesive peptide and natural polymer or synthetic polymer to alginate moieties creates an improved composite material,which not only possesses better mechanical properties compared to native alginate,but also grants additional healing capability and promote better tissue *** addition,drug release kinetic and cell viability can be further improved when alginate composite is used as encapsulating *** this review,preparation of alginate and alginate composite in various forms(fibre,bead,hydrogel,and 3D-printed matrices)used for biomedical application is described first,followed by the discussion of latest trend related to alginate composite utilization in wound dressing,drug delivery,and tissue engineering applications.

Influence of biofilm-forming lactic acid bacteria against methicillin-resistan Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA S547)

Objective: To investigate the antibacterial effect of selected lactic acid bacteria(LAB)biofilms on the planktonic and biofilm population of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA)(S547).Methods: In this study, biofilm-forming LAB were isolated from tairu and kefir. Isolate Y1 and isolate KF were selected based on their prominent inhibition against test pathogens(using spot-on-agar method and agar-well-diffusion assay) and efficient biofilm production(using tissue culture plate method). They were then identified as Lactobacillus casei(L. casei) Y1 and Lactobacillus plantarum(L. plantarum) KF, respectively using16 S r DNA gene sequencing. The influence of incubation time, temperature and aeration on the biofilm production of L. casei Y1 and L. plantarum KF was also investigated using tissue culture plate method. The inhibitory activity of both the selected LAB biofilms was evaluated against MRSA(Institute for Medical Research code: S547) using L. plantarum ATCC 8014 as the reference ***: L. casei Y1 showed the highest reduction of MRSA biofilms, by 3.53 log at48 h while L. plantarum KF records the highest reduction of 2.64 log at 36 h. In inhibiting planktonic population of MRSA(S547), both L. casei Y1 and L. plantarum KF biofilms recorded their maximum reduction of 4.13 log and 3.41 log at 24 h, respectively. Despite their inhibitory effects being time-dependent, both LAB biofilms exhibited good potential in controlling the biofilm and planktonic population of MRSA(S547).Conclusions: The results from this study could highlight the importance of analysing biofilms of LAB to enhance their antibacterial efficacy. Preferably, these protective biofilms of LAB could also be a better alternative to control the formation of biofilms by pathogens such as MRSA.
